Server 2008 R2, XP SP3/7 64bit client remoteapp dragging window problem

I'm running a small remoteapp server farm in 2008 R2 and am experiencing difficulties with some applications when dragging windows about.
The problem happens when moving windows around by left click and dragging, they seem to get 'undropped' even though the mouse click is still applied (happening on multiple users) This is usually within the application where 2 documents are open. Moving dockable
toolbars around is also a problem
I've tried remote desktop connection onto both the servers and it appears to work with no problems.
Environment:
Server 2008 R2 (2 of configured as an RDP farm)
XP SP3 clients
7 Pro 64 Bit
Photoshop CS5
Anyone have any ideas/links to hotfix which addresses this?

Hi,
Thank you for your reply.
As the other build-in Windows application is working fine, it seems to be a compatibility issue. Please consider using the “RDS Application
Compatibility Analyze” below to test the application if meets the requirement of RemoteApp.

  • When installing Server 2008 Datacenter from disc, I get the error message "Windows could not parse or process the unattent answer file for pass [specialize].

This is a clean install from s disc onto a 3TB GPT drive. This is for testing. I'm not concerned with finding a more practical solution for this installation.
There is no image or answer file involved. But at the "Completing Installation" phase, I receive this error message about an answer file.
Has anyone else expecrienced this problem? The only results I find here are regarding actual imaging with answer files.
    EDIT: [Redacted]
EDIT 2: Since this now happens with every single installation of Server 2008 on this system, I feel the need to keep this open and elaborate on my situation.
I originally installed Server 2008 on the 2TB partition of this 3TB drive. The partition type was MBR. I reinstalled it (there was a false alarm for malicious software) since it was a fresh install without updates or anything else installed. And for the
    second time, it installed fine.
I decided to make the most of my 3TB drive and try GPT partitioning. So I went into the command prompt > diskpart > ran "clean" on the disk, then "convert GPT"
That is when I tried another install of Server 2008 and received this error message about an answer file.
I decided to convert it back to MBR and get on with what I wanted to test in the first place. So I went into Diskpart again, ran "clean", rand "convert MBR" and started the install. But this resulted in the same error message about an
    answer file.
I went back to Diskpart, "clean"ed the disk, ran "convert dynamic" to make sure it was dynamic, then tried the install again, with the same result.
Now, I've tried installing on the disk as GPT, MBR basic and MBR dynamic. I've tried a different installation disc, as well. I got the same result. At this point, I'm going to switch hard drives, but I'm still open to input. Thanks for reading!

    Hi,
As you swapped the hard disk, whether the same issue occurs again if you redo the same steps?
I asked "OEM or retail" because of this known issue:
"Windows could not parse or process the unattend answer file for pass [specialize]" error message when you perform an in-place upgrade in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2425962
An answer file may already contain in the disc which causes the issue.
If issue still exists you can click Shift + F10 during the installation process to see the log. Check if the installation error for detailed information.

  • Windows server 2008 R2 x64 Authentication failure while try to access Windows server 2003 R2

    Hello,
I try to access Windows Server 2003 R2 Standard from Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 standard using integrated windows authentication . And because my application tries to read SQL server i'm getting and error that user is not trusted. Then I tried to open a
simple shared folder on  2003 and none of the users is able to do it. Both servers are part of common workgroup in the same IP range. Using domain is not an option. Migrating 2003 to 2008 is not an option either. The specific DB provider I have to use
supports only windows authentication, so creating user into SQL server is not an option too. I have tested many applications and cases which requires/uses windows authentication and non of the manage to connect.
Any help is very welcome because things are urgent!
    Authentication failure

That method in workgroup mode may be a problem.

    Hi,
Please make sure that the update files have been downloaded on the WSUS server.
Update will be available only if it has been downloaded.
Also, please check if the Network Service has the Full Control permission on the WSUS content folder.
    Best Regards.

  • Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V guests lose NIC after recent Windows Update

    Hi Folks,
I have  a Windows 2008R2 Hyper-V server with 20 guests.  They have been using a standard network adapter for 2 years.  Last night after running this months windows updates on a number of the guest VMs, each running Windows 2008R2 some of these
adapters disappeared.  That is they are not visible in "network adapters" on the guest VM, the static IP configuration is gone and instead the VM had a dynamically assigned IP shown in IP config to a Microsoft VM bus network adapter #2.
The other machines that didn't have updates run on them and have adapters visible show a Microsoft VM bus network adapter.
I don't see anything obvious in event viewer.
I've done the basic "reinstall integration services" but it still doesn't show a configurable network adapter.
I've uninstalled the windows updates and "reinstalled integration services" no luck.
Does anyone have recommendations on next steps?
I'll update the post as I move forward.
    Thanks,
    Ivan
    Ivan

    Hi,
Could you try to show the hidden device in the device manager, you can refer the following article to show the hidden device:
How to Find a Lost, Missing, Hidden or Removed Network Card (NIC) or Other Device and Even Remove it
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/danstolts/archive/2010/09/25/how-to-find-a-lost-missing-hidden-or-removed-network-card-nic-or-other-device-and-even-remove-it.aspx#sthash.z6jSu8tZ.dpuf
If you can see the lost NIC adapter then try to remove it uninstall it then rescan the device to see if there have the virtual NIC adapter found.
    Hope this helps.

  • Cannot install SQL Server Native Client 2012 on Windows Server 2008 Data Center

Is it possible to install SQL Server Native Client 11.0 (SQL Server 2012) on Windows Server 2008 Datacenter?
I tried to install it, but I get this error message:
"Installation of this product failed because it is not supported on this operating system. For information on supported configurations, see the product documentation."
Based on this article (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc280356.aspx), I see one of the supported operating system is Windows Server 2008.

    Hello,
Can you try to download and install Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 2 from the following link, and then reinstall the SQL Server Native Client 11.0 again?
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-in/download/details.aspx?id=16468
Microsoft SQL Server 2012  Native Client is included in the SQL Server 2012 Feature Pack. Based on the requirement of
the download page , you should apply SP2 for Windows Server 2008.

  • Satellite A505-S6004 - Unknown device on Windows Server 2008 R2 64bit

I was try to install Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit on a A505-S6004 (originally Windows 7 Home Premium) on a new disk. Having downloaded and installed numerous Toshiba website drivers for Windows 7 and installing, I have two things left in device manager that I don't know what to get for them.
    The info is under Other devices-Base System Device-PCI Bus 3, Device 0, Function1 and ..., Function2.
Any ideas what this may be?

It turns out I missed a driver, Ricoh Card Reader for Windows 7:

  • Microsoft ODBC for Oracle / Microsoft Server 2008 r2

We are testing the operational system Windows Server 2008 r2 in one of our clients. This system does not accept the installation of the tool Microsoft ODBC for Oracle. We’d like to know how to install this Driver, once Microsoft’s webpage does not mention any help related to this issue (there is instruction only for the installation of MDAC). We’ve consulted discussion forums and all types of ocurrence on the Internet, but we started to think it’s a Bug of the version. Can you inform us what’s the solution for the problem?
We are looking forward to your answer.

    user5459571 wrote:
We have new webservers (Microsoft Server 2008 r2 64bit) that will need to connect to a variety of Oracle databases.
    Our DBAs have provided:
    10204_vista_w2k8_x64_production_client
We have installed it, but, notice that the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver is not listed.
It would be better for us to use the Oracle client, but, we do need to connect to Ticket Machines that are based on a Oracle v 8 database. (So, basically, if we use a 10g client trying to connect to a oracle 8 database, it will display the error: ORA-03134 Connections to this server version are no longer supported.)
It is not possible for us to upgrade the Oracle 8 database to current, so, we have to use the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver.
So, basically, we have a Oracle 8 database that we can not presently connect. (those machines are feeling abandoned)
Ideas? ThanksIf you insist on using the MS driver, you'll have to get that from MS. Why would you have expected it to come with an Oracle installation?
And to get the Oracle driver, you have to do a 'custom' installation and select the Windows components, as it is not installed with a default installation.
And all that aside from the very serious version compatibility issues.

  • CF9 installation on Windows Server 2008 R2 64 bit

Our company is looking purchase CF9 standard edition and install it on a Windows Server 2008 Std. Edition R2 64bit.
Does anyone forsee any problems as far as compatibility is concerned?

Not in the slightest - I installed five just the other week
All our virtual machines, running 2008 R2 x64. We went for Enterprise Edition, but I believe in CF9 they're both 64-bit anyway. These are the from the build notes I built up:
      Install extra roles:
        Application Server
        Web Server (IIS)
          Application Development
          IIS6 METABASE Compatibility
      Install extra Features:
        SMTP Service
Other than that nothing else needs doing. It's worth noting (as a slight but irritating aside) that in 2008 R2 the SMTP service is set to Manual not Automatic, so you'll want to change that unless you want your emails to stop every time you reboot the box.
But the actual install itself was far simpler than CF8 on 2008.
    O.

  • How do I use long path names ("\\?\UNC\...") with Server 2008 roaming profiles?

    Hey folks!
    I administrate a Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 Domain with about 40 users on
Windows 7 SP1 clients. Because the users often switch between the many PCs, I am using Roaming Profiles which tend to produce errors with different application-specific paths and files inside the users profiles.
As one of many example, our standard mail application Thunderbird produces paths and files according to folders/subfolders and mails in a user's mailbox. Another one is Microsoft Office's Auto Recovery files which reside in a user's profile and can
    get very long.
These paths and filenames often extend the allowed max. path of about 256 characters, when (on log on or off) the synchronization process between the client and the server takes place, leading to errors in the event log and a notification to the user about
    the conflict:
"Event ID 1509 - Windows cannot copy file \\server\share\users\user123.v2\AppData\Roaming\looooong to location C:\Users\user123\AppData\Roaming\looooong. DETAIL - The filename or extension is too long."
In the long run this leads to different file versions on different clients which - in the case of Thunderbird - leads to missing mails.
After extensive searches and lectures of forums - including this - I haven't found a solution for this problem.
So my question is if there's a way to use the extended max path with roaming profiles and if so how do I get it to work?
I tried changing the profile path of a test user in the Active Directory user preferences from "\\server\share\profiles\test_user" to something like "\\?\UNC\server\share\profiles\test_user" without any changes in the system's behavior.
Also I think that because this is such a fundamental problem somebody must have come up with a solution for it...
    Thanks in advance,
    Nico

    Hi,
    Thanks for your posting.
The Event 1509 can happen if the destination path of the users profile is on a server with a long name and share folder name. For detail information, please refer to:

    Hi,
You can install SQL server express 2008 on machine having SQL Server 2008 r2 is supported. From what you posted I guess SQL server 2008 r2 is default instance so you need to install SQL server 2008 express SP1 as named instance. Your error matches problem

  • Error trying to install SP1 Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi team,
I'm having an error when I'm trying to deploy service pack 1 of Windows Server 2008 R2. I try this scenario installing the SP1 in a workgroup machine and the results were successful. But when I'm trying to install in my Domain it doesn't work. Later I remove
the machine from the Domain and again try to install the SP1 and it also doesn't work.
What permissions in files or procedures can I implement for having a successful deploy of Service Pack 1 in my Domain?
Thanks a lot for your assistance.
    Regards.

  • Can I install Solution Manager 7.0 in Window Server 2008 R2 Enterprise ed.?

    Hi, SDN experts.
I am trying to install Solution Manager 7.0 in in Window Server 2008 R2?
I checked the the software requirement for SAP Solution Manager 7.0, it only mentioned Window Server 2003 and 2008  enterprise edition.
I am trying to install Solution Manager 7.0 in in Window Server 2008 R2 enterprise edition?
When I ran the Solution Manager Master Installer, the Pre-requisite Checker gave a warning message saying that it detected incompatible server version, that the server version is Windows NT 6.1 (Build 7601: Service Pack 1) (I guess it meant Window Server 2008 R2).
    =======
The following Windows operating system version is supported: Windows Server 2003 (i.e. Version 5.2) and Windows Server 2008 (i.e. Version 6.0).
Current Windows version: Version 6.1, Service Pack 1.0, productive type: Server.
You can check the current version of you operating system by runningu2026u2026..
    ========
Can I actually install Solution Manager 7.0 in Window Server 2008 R2? Will this cause problem during the installation/post-installation if I ignore this message?
    Thanks,
    KC

    Hi,
I think it is not straight forward to install SAP Solution Manager 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2.
I am installing Solution Manager 7.0 , the installation encountered error on Create Java Users step (Phase 31 of 44). When I login to SAP solution Manager system through SAP GUI. I encountered this error:
"OS release Windows NT 6.1 7601 Service Pack 1 4x AMD64 Level 6 (Mod 44 Step 2) is not supported with this kernel (700)'
I found that it is because I am installing SAP Solution Manger 7.0 in MS Window Server 2008 R2, which the existing kernel version does not support.
Do you know which kernel I should install?
    I browsed in:
SAP Application Components" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER" SAP SOLUTION MANAGER 7.0" Entry by Component" Solution Manager ABAP Stack
    SAP KERNEL 7.00 64-BIT UNICODE --> Windows Server on x64 64bit -->MS SQL SERVER
    I downloaded:
SAPEXEDB_291-20001361.SAR      Kernel Part II (for Basis 7.00)       291
Is this the right Kernel patch I should use?
If it is the right kernel patch file, how do I apply the latest kernel to existing Solution Manager system? Can you give me some guidance on this?
    Thanks,
    KC

  • Adobe PDF iFilter SQL Server 2008 R2 Full Text not working

Unable to get the SQL Server 2008 R2 to index PDF files for full-text searching.
    Environment: Windows 7 SP1 Enterprise 64-bit, SQL Server 2008 R2 Express SP3 64-bit, Adobe Reader 11.x
Installed PDF iFilter 64 (11.0.01) from
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=5542
Added its folder (C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe PDF iFilter 11 for 64-bit platforms\bin\;) to the PC system Path variable. Rebooted PC.
Confirmed SQL Server sees the Adobe PDF iFilter ..... SELECT * from sys.fulltext_document_types where document_type = '.pdf'
Inserted PDF files to my table (see below for CREATE statement).
The SQLFT log says  ... Warning: No appropriate filter was found during full-text index population for table or indexed view '[TestDB].[dbo].[pdfifiltertable]' (table or indexed view ID '2105058535', database ID '7'), full-text key value '1'.
Some columns of the row were not indexed.
Installed other filters for Office. Added files of type DOC, XPS. Confirmed the search query works for those file types. So as such SQL Full-Text is enabled and working.
    Below my T-SQL commands:
    Exec sp_fulltext_service 'load_os_resources', 1
    Exec sp_fulltext_service 'verify_signature', 0
    Exec sp_fulltext_database 'enable'
    CREATE TABLE pdfifiltertable(
    PdfID INT IDENTITY NOT NULL,
    PdfFileName VARCHAR(MAX),
    Ext VARCHAR(10) ,
    PdfText VARBINARY(MAX),
    CONSTRAINT PK_PdfID PRIMARY KEY (PdfID)
    GO
CREATE FULLTEXT CATALOG pdfCatalog AS DEFAULT
    GO
CREATE FULLTEXT INDEX ON pdfifiltertable([PdfText] Type column [Ext]
    ) KEY INDEX PK_PdfID with change_tracking auto
    GO
SELECT pdfFileName FROM pdfifiltertable WHERE CONTAINS(pdftext, 'payment')

What edition are you using? Like is it SQL-Express or SQL-Standard etc.

Tested in another PC SQL-Server Express 2008 with Windows 7 64-bit. Same issue.
