Server 2012 and microsoft account
can you link a Microsoft account to a local account in server 2012?
Is there any way to enable this for domain accounts? I would like to set up an RDSH server and have all the users who want to link their domain accounts to their Microsoft accounts able to do so, so that they get a similar experience to Windows 8. I notice
that Windows 2012 (at least with Desktop Experience enabled) has the service "Microsoft Account Sign-In Assistant" but starting this service doesn't enable the options in PC Settings.

Install AD / SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2013 on a single server as Development Environment
Hi All,
I'm planning to prepare a SharePoint 2013 development environment. The current idea is to install Domain controller, SQL Server 2012 and SharePoint 2013 all on a single server. Even though this is for development purposes,
would there be any limitations specially when it comes to SP 2013 functionalities according to your experience?
Some articles i referred.

i understand this is a sandbox environment but you should be able to install everything.

Server 2008 R2 with WSUS need to specify location for Feature install for Server 2012 and Windows 8
Having a problem where we need to add .net 3.5, amongst other things, in server 2012 and windows 8.1. We're using WSUS on server 2008 R2, so when I go to add roles or features, I'm not able to as it tries to use Windows Update but it's set to use WSUS.
I'm aware in server 2012 gpo's that you enable the policy 'specify settings for optional component installation and component repair' in Administrative Templates>System, however that setting is not available in Server 2008 R2.
I've downloaded the templates from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36991 but the setting is still not there.
Any suggestions on how to do this/allow feature install with Server 2008 R2?Hi,
To upgrade the Administrative Templates, please run the downloaded msi file, then copy the needed admx files and adml files to the PolicyDefinitions folder.

Hi,
In the interest of just getting started and learning the basics of setting up TFS, I previously setup an IDE using a large workstation running Windows 8. I set up the required servers for TFS using VM's through Hyper-V. I am now transferring
everything to a new and separate physical server.
My question stems from a problem I had when I originally setup the TFS system the 1st time. I couldn't get SQL server to work using the Server 2012 R2 download from the subscription center. When I used Server 2012, it worked, so I proceeded that
way just to get going.
So now I'm setting things up anew on a new physical box, I want to ask up front, is there some difference in the R2 version that causes problems with either TFS or SQL server, or was there likely some oversight on my part when I did things the 1st time?
As an addendum to my question, I always assumed R2 merely means the Server software has progressed to a refined state and is ready for wide distribution and easy setup. I assumed that there are no differences between the Standard version and the R2
version. Is that understanding correct?
Thanks.Hi Daniel,
Thanks for your response. That's a great link. I don't recall seeing a page that is so clear and easy to read back when I was doing this the 1st time, but I probably just missed it. That helps.
I am/was using TFS2013 and VS2013. As I recall, my problem was getting SQL Server to work, but I thought asking this question on this forum was wiser because I figured everyone using TFS would be well familiar with these issues.
At any rate, it seems as though TFS2013 is fine with Server 2012 standard or R2.
I was using SQL Server 2012, and it also seems as though it works on R2:

Anyway, thanks for your support. I'll be trying this again and we'll see. -
SCCM 2012 SP1 with remote WSUS on Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012
I am rebuilding my SCCM 2012 lab on Server 2012 R2 x64 OS now.
I have 1 primary site, remote SQL server 2012, and remote WSUS server.
Is the WSUS console still required on my primary site running server 2012? If so are the below the correct steps to get this working?
Install Console on primary server:
Go to Server Manager à Add Roles and features, Navigate to the features section.
Remote Server Manager tools
>Role Administration Tools
--Select Windows Server Update Services Tools Only
Are there any post hotfixes to install?
Intalling WSUS full version on remote server:
Go to Server Manager à Add Roles and features, Server Roles section.
Windows Server Update Services
Do I need to select this as well on the remote wsus server? >Role Administration Tools -Select Windows Server Update Services Tools Only
Since my SQL server is on a remote server do I select the below only?
Are there any post hotfixes to install?Hi,
One Part of the question is already answered. The second part is: If you want to use a remote SQL Server you need to select exactly what you selected in your screenshot.

Thomas

Is there a 32 Bit edition available for windows server 2012 and windows server 2008
Dear All,
Is there a 32 Bit edition available for windows server 2012 and windows server 2008?

AhmedHi,
Quote:
All editions of Windows Server 2008 R2 are 64-bit only.
Reference link below(session Supported upgrade paths):

And based on MS official description about system requirement for Windows Server 2012/2012 R2, we may find out that they only has 64 bit OS.

hyper link of public image(hyperlink or image) can not be saved on windows server 2012 and sharepoint 2010 problem, is this a bug?
thanks for any reply.
RosoneIt is not a bug, you might be using IE in Windows server 2012 and and browser might be restricting your site actions to respond properly.
Check this in a different browser or access site in a differ OS.

Windows server 2012 and windows 7 direct access
I am looking for some decent documentation on how to get direct access in windows 2012 to work with windows 7
Can anyone point me the right direction?Hi, I got success through this
http://syscomlab.blog.com/2012/09/how-to-get-windows-7-to-work-with-directaccess-server-2012/ and this one
http://syscomlab.blog.com/2012/09/directaccess-for-windows-server-2012-guide/ but I'm using NLS in a dedicated server (what is fine for me) but the Win7 client doesn't connect to DA (EDGE server) through internet. I'm using a LAB where WS2012 host acts
as a GATEWAY (using NAT) and for Windows 8 client is working fine but when I try using win7 clients it just doesn't work :(
Server WS 2012 RTM full patched + Win8 Enterprise RTM full patched + Win7 Enterprise RTM ful patched (including the recommended KBs for DA solution)

It is compatible Obi 11g with Windows Server 2012 and Sql Server 2012?
Hi every
Please help with two questions.
1. - Obi 11g is supported on Windows Server 2012 and SQL Server 2012?
There a compatibility matrix which mention compatibility with versions 2012?
2. - is feasible to install Obi 11g in separate server and install weblogic on another server?
I appreciate the prompt response
Regards
PedroHi Pedro,
As of November 2012 Compatibility Matrix released by Oracle for OBI 11.1.1.x Windows 2012 and SQL Server 2012 were not supported. It was supported on 2008 Windows and SQL Server.
We can have weblogic and OBI server's on 2 different machines. The approach is to opt software only install. the link below will give more details:
http://obieeelegant.blogspot.com/2012/07/obiee111160-software-only-installation.html
Let me know if this helped.

Synchronize between promatric account and microsoft account
hi
i try to make Synchronize between promatric account and microsoft account but he con not find the certificate i toke it,Hi ahmad_alnjjar,
It might seems that the training center have created a new MCP ID for you. To solve your problem just give a call to your Microsoft Region Service Centers (https://www.microsoft.com/learning/en-us/help.aspx) by calling them to merge your 2 MCP IDs to one
account.
Hope this helps :) -
SQL Server 2012 DB Engine does not start (clean install with server 2012 and 2008 R2)
I'm trying to do clean installation of SQL server 2012 on Server 2012 (which is runnning as a VM on ESX server) and getting this "wait on the DB engine recovery failed" message. Initially, I though this issue was related to some permission issues
but changing the permission or service accounts didn't help. I'm not seeing any "denied" messages in the log files either. Even with Server 2008 R2 (clean built VM), the installation gives the exactly the same error messages.
My setup is purely for test purpose; so, the security is not a concern. Can someone help or give me a clue where to look?

As you are telling this is a test installation process...
In the logs i m seeing the error message "An error occurred while processing the log for database 'model'. If possible, restore from backup. If a backup is not available, it might be necessary to rebuild the log.".
1) If the SQL Services was installed successfully and SQL Service was not able to start because of model database issue...
1.1) If you have model database SQL back file, start the SQL Server in single user mode with minimum configuration and try to restore MODEL database
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlserverfaq/archive/2011/05/11/inf-hey-my-sql-server-service-is-not-starting-what-do-i-do.aspx
1.2) If you don't have backups., try to rebuild the system databases but make sure that you are not losing any data critical data on master and SQL Jobs on MSDB
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207003%28v=sql.110%29.aspx#RebuildProcedure
2) As if this is a new installation try to repair the instance with the help of setup media file
3) If the repair option fails., the last option wipe out the complete SQL Server components from Services.msc and Registries and start new installation.
4) Make sure when you are doing un-installation all the required SQL Server components on services.msc should be in stop state.
Hope this helps and let me know any questions...

SQL Server 2012 SP2 NTService Accounts Access Denied starting services
We have an SQL Server 2012 SP1 which was running perfectly until we applied the SQL Server 2012 SP2.
After SP2 was installed and the server rebooted all the associated SQL services that uses NTService\xxxxxxx accounts failed to start with Error 5: Access Denied.
We were able to change the services to Local System account but I just want to understand why this occurred and is this ok?
Has anyone had a similar issue or can anyone assist with an explanation?Hi Giulio,
Based on your description, I tested the scenario as yours. After applying SQL Server 2012 SP2, I reboot the server , then restart all the associated SQL Server services that use NT SERVICE\<SERVICENAME> accounts successfully.
According to the error message, it might be caused by that NT SERVICE\<SERVICENAME> accounts don’t have sufficient permissions to access the SQL Server services installation folders. You can post detailed information in the SQL Server Errorlog file
for analysis.
In addition, Local System is a very high-privileged built-in account. It has extensive privileges on the local system and acts as the computer on the network. And it is not recommend to use local system account for running SQL Server services. For more details
about configuring SQL Server Service accounts, you can review the following links.

SQL Server 2012 and guest access to the MSDB database
Hello!
Today we were given a vulnerability scan on one of our SQL Server 2012 systems and it is flagging the following issue:
Guest is not disabled on the msdb database.
I pointed our security team to the following article:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2539091
My question on this:
Other than the three cases outlined, are there other possible implications of disabling guest on the msdb database? Can you point me to a reference that states one way or the other if guest needs to be disabled on msdb?
I do not like the thought of applying this change blindly and I am afraid of a potential issue caused in some other part of our application that we cannot account for down the road.
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks!

Adobe Update Server Setup Tool on Windows Server 2012 and IIS 8 ?
can you help me install and configure my internal AUSST on the new server OS provided by Microsoft (Windows Server 2012)?
What should be the parameters required (or mandatory) in IIS 8 (ISAPI Filters, etc ...) ?
What parameters in the installation of IIS should be chosen?
What are the steps necessary to implement this new operating system? Our enterprise also uses an authenticated proxy, so I've been banging my head to get this working!
I'm surprise to learn of this proxy oversight! This tool has "enterprise" all over the documentation (e.g. AAMEE?). There's good likelihood that other enterprises (still) have proxies in place. Makes me wonder if the CreativeCloud architects had this same proxy-ignorant oversite?
@Abhishek
Can you pass this request onto Jody Rogers or Karl Gibson (or whomever "owns" Adobe Enterprise Deployment products)?
I can pass the following curl switches and get out of our authenticated proxy; why can't you make AdobeUpdateServerSetupTool2.0 honor these curl options?
[Note: this example assumes Mac OS X or other Unix-y OSes]
curl --proxy myproxy.domain.com:port --proxy-user ADserviceAccount http://swupmf.adobe.com/webfeed/oobe/aam10/win/updaterfeed.xml
BTW: why does "mac" in xml feed return so much more info?

Memory leak issue with link server between SQL Server 2012 and Oracle
Hi,
We are trying to use the linked server feature with SQL Server 2012 to connect SQL server and Oracle database. We are concerned about the existing memory leak issue. For more context please refer to the link.

The above link talks about the issues with SQL Server versions 2005 and 2008, not sure if this is still the case in 2012. I could not find any article that talks about if this issue was fixed by Microsoft in later version.
We know that SQL Server process crashes because of the third-party linked server provider which is loaded inside SQL Server process. If the third-party linked server provider is enabled together with the
Allow inprocess option, the SQL Server process crashes when this third-party linked server experiences internal problems.
We wanted to know if this fixed in SQL Server 2012 ?So your question is more of a information type or are you really facing OOM issue.
There can be two things for OOM
1. There is bug in SQL Server which is causing the issue which might be fixed in 2012
2. The Linked server provider used to connect to Oracle is not upto date and some patch is missing or more recent version is to be used. Did you made sure that you are using latest version.
What is Oracle version you are trying to connect(9i,10g, R2...)
