Server 2012 - Problem with multiple instances of RDS looking to the same license server. Server Pools requiring the wrong servers.
Hi All,
I have two domains, prod.local and test.local. On prod.local, I have a license server living on the connection broker. I have created a two way trust between the domains so that the RDS instance on test.local can use the license server on prod.local.
When I first setup the RDS instance on test.local and point it to use the license server on prod.local everything appears to work, all servers recognize the license server.
However when I log off and back on, and click the RDS dashboard in test.local, the Remote Desktop Services overview states I need to add every server from prod.local to the server pool. This is bothersome because the Remote Desktop Services on test.local
is still functioning, but I am no longer able to manage it. When I add the servers from prod.local to the server pool I am displayed the setup for prod.local instead of test.local
Is there a way around this? Can I use the same RDS license server key multiple times?
tldr: Using a different domain's license server causes my RDS instance in Server Manager to display the wrong RDS farm.
Hi Nathan,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server forum.
Please check the required ports must be opened on firewall.
- To issue RDS Per User CALs to users in other domains, there must be a two-way trust between the domains, and the license server must be a member of the Terminal Server License Servers group in those domains.
- To restrict the issuance of RDS CALs, you can add RDS Host Servers into Terminal Server Computers group on RDS Licensing servers.
- Configure RDS licensing server on all RDS Host Servers in each domain/forest. You can do it through RDS host configuration snap-in or through a group policy.
- Add administrators group of each domain/forest in the local administrators of RDS licensing server. This way, you’ll not get a prompt to enter your credentials when you’ll open RDS host configuration snap-ins in trusted domains/forests.

Hello,
We have Windows Server 2012 and clients using Windows 8. We've been having some printer problems for awhile now that I haven't been able to figure out for the life of me. The main problem is the fact that printers are installed on computers automatically
once the drivers are installed. The side-effect of multiple instances of each printer showing up is very annoying but I suspect fixing the initial problem will resolve this secondary one.
Here is the rundown:
We add the shared printers on logon to the clients using the GPO thus installing the drivers locally.
Whenever the spooler on the client is restarted with the drivers installed, all of the
shared printers that were previously installed get duplicated 5 more times (for a total of 6 instances of each shared printer) on the "Devices and Printers" page. This happens
all the time.
Removing them only fixes the issue temporarily, as soon as the spooler or computer is restarted, it seems these shared printers are somehow found on the network and the duplicates return.
Two of these printers are located on different clients, installed locally and shared while the other three are all installed on a server and shared through it. The issue is the same on all of them.
Cleaning the spooler completely (registry and files from C:\system32\spool) fixes the issue temporarily as well since, as soon as the drivers are reinstalled, the issue occurs again.
I've tried many things (disabling the GPO, editing the GPO, printer shares, registry, etc.) and searched tirelessly online for a cause and solution but I'm stumped. Does anybody have any idea what might be causing this problem and how to resolve it?
Thanks for your time!
Update #1: I just tried adding the NoNetCrawling option in the registry found in this article -> http://support.microsoft.com/kb/320138/en-us
I couldn't find the same for Windows 8 unfortunately. I also tried disabling network discovery and all other sharing options to no avail.
Update #2: I tried isolating the computer to a different subnet and restarting the spooler and, sure enough, the issue didn't occur. This proves that the issue is network share related. Also, as soon as I change the IP back to the regular domain
subnet one, the multiple printer instances re-appeared again.
Update #3: I just tried doing the same thing but on the server where the printers are installed and shared and, sure enough, despite being in a different subnet, the issue occurred. This leads me to believe there is a setting on this server at fault.
Question is, which one?We have deployed a brand new Active Directory domain for a customer. ALL the servers without exception are Windows 2012 R2 and all clients are Windows 8.1 32bit VDI clients.
The issue that we have is around network printers.
We are deploying 4 printers from a Windows 2012 R2 Server via the print management/Deploy Printer and assigning that to a GPO. The printers are deployed to the Computers which should mean that the users get all 4 printers which they then should be allowed
to set their default and personal settings for that printer.
Our printers are deployed like this:
1. Created security group
2. Assigned VDI computers to the security group
3. Created GPO to reflect security group
4. Modify GPO to do security filtering based on computer group membership
5. Deployed 4 x printers through Print Management to the GPO on a per machine basis
However, on the users Devices and Printers screen we are not seeing the 4 printers. For some users
they see duplicates of all 4 printers so e.g they can have upwards of 8 or more. Other users have no printers displayed whatsoever. The next time they log off or restart they then have a different amount of printers displayed.
If they try and set the default then it will set and the next time they check the default may have moved to another printer even without logging off or back on.
Now, where this gets strange is within an application such as MS Word 2013 or Notepad if they use the file and print menu the printers will be listed, even if the user has no printers displayed in Devices and Printers. If the users selects a printer then they
can then print OK.
If we check HKCU\Printers||Connections then the CORRECT 4 printers are showing as to what is being deployed via the GPO so I know that the Windows 8.1 terminals are receiving the correct printers from the GPO.
To try and correct this over the course of the week we have deployed the printers via Group Policy Preferences to the user and then the PC to no avail. Currently we are using the Print management\Deployed Printers to deploy all 4 printers to the computer via
the Computer GPO.
I believe that this issue is related to the display somehow in Devices and Printers rather than a GPO or print server issue as we can see via the registry the clients are receiving the 4 correct mentioned printers as shown in the registry.
FYI: We only have around 30 users and all users are getting this problem. All users are receiving the same GPO's and have the same few apps installed, Office 2013, Adobe Reader etc.
What we want is for the computers to receive all 4 printers. All users should be able to use all 4 printers but the user should be able to select their particular default, depending where they are located or what they are printing that particular day. Their
particular default should persist after reboot. (We have 2 x Copiers and 2 x HP Laserjets) All users have redirected documents and desktop but the rest of the profile is on the VDI and persists after their reboot. The profile is not roaming as the user is
assigned a particular VDI.
After a week of scratching our heads with this we are open to suggestions and any would be appreciated.
We have tried following the issues on this thread to no avail either as they still return. -
New WSUS on Server 2012 - problem with win8 clients
Hi,
Two weeks ago we created a new Server 2012 and installed the WSUS role from scratch on it. Its version number is: 6.2.9200.16384. It replaced a Server 2008 WSUS server. After some time all the win7 clients updated and reported as
they did on the old and replaced server.
However all our win8 clients refuse to update against this server. They show correctly up in WSUS server console each with 107 needed updates day after day. We have rebooted them and done numerous wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow and wuauclt
/detectnow /reportnow, but to no avail.
I paste in some lines from a win8 client winupdate log at the end of this message if someone can figure out what I have to do to get these clients update as they did against the old wsus server. Thanks for help on this issue.
regards Tor

2014-02-03 08:43:40:513 920 178c Service *************Today I opened Control Panel / Windows Updates and first did a check for new updates (from the WSUS server). Nothing was found and it reported Windows is Updated. Then I clicked the link Check for updates from Microsoft via internet, and
it found around 24 updates.
This is confirmation of the point that I made in the previous post. The updates are *NEEDED* by this system, but the updates were not *AVAILABLE* from the assigned WSUS Server. You were able to get them from Windows Update, but that does not fix your continuing
issue with the WSUS Server.
but it still reported the original 108 Needed updates.
Exactly. As previously noted, the client is functioning perfectly. The problem is NOT with the client; the problem is with the WSUS Server. The updates that this client needed were not AVAILABLE to be downloaded from the WSUS server.
Why this is the case requires further investigation on your part, but is either because the updates are not properly approved, or the update FILES are not yet downloaded from Microsoft to the WSUS server.
It appears that the wsus server doesn't get any information back from the client despite that it displays new Last contact and Last Status report timestamps.
This conclusion is incorrect. The WSUS Server got every bit of information available from the client -- you've confirmed this by the number of updates reported as "Needed" by the Windows Update Agent to the WSUS Server.
I assumed that the log would display if the updates were downloaded or not.
It will log when the updates are actually downloaded. If there's no log entries for updates being downloaded, then they're not being downloaded. If the logfile says "Found 0 updates", then that means exactly what it says: It couldn't find any approved/available
updates to download.
In your case it "Found 11 updates", but now it will be impossible to diagnose that fault, because you went and got them from Windows Update.
All Win8 versions are checked in the WSUS server's Product list so the updates should at least have been downloaded to the server.
This is why understanding the infrastructure is so critical. Your conclusion is invalid based on the premise given, and you may be using improper terminology which only confuses the rest of us as well.
First, selecting updates for synchronization only gets the update metadata (i.e. the detection logic) downloaded to the WSUS database.
The Second Step in this process is to Approve those updates for one or more WSUS Target Groups that contain the appropriate client systems. Following the approval of an update, the WSUS Server downloads the INSTALLATION FILE for that update.
Once the WUAgent sees an approved update and the installation file is available, then the WUAgent will download the file and schedule the update for installation.
Most of the post I read about my problem is about upgrading a 2008 WSUS server to support Win8 / Server 12 clients. When I try to run this update on my Server 12 WSUS it refuses to run (probably because it is for Server 2008).
Yeah.. totally different issue in those posts than what you're describing here.
What should I do to try to track down the problem?
Well.... now that it's 11 days since the logfile was posted, and you've already updated that system, we'll first need to find another system exhibiting the same issue.
Then I'll need to ask a number of questions to properly understand the environment, as well as what you have or have not done.
Then, from there, we can attempt to figure out why your Windows 8 client apparently sees some updates as approved/available but is still not downloading them. We do not yet have sufficient information to even speculate on a possible cause -- there are several.

Problem with multiple instances of same module
I want to call the same module in several different
viewstates. Based on a variable for each viewstate the module
returns different results. Here is a shortened version of my code:
private var lm:linkModule;
private function moduleHandler(promotion:String):void
lm = linkModule(lm1.child);
lm.initHandler(promotion);
<mx:ViewStack id="estonishViewStack" width="100%"
height="100%">
<mx:Canvas x="0" y="0" width="100%" height="100%"
id="saleView" label="Sales">
<mx:ModuleLoader id="lm1" url="modules/linkModule.swf"
ready="moduleHandler('sale');" />
</mx:Canvas>
<mx:Canvas x="0" y="0" width="100%" height="100%"
id="seasonalView" label="Seasonal">
<mx:ModuleLoader id="lm1" url="modules/linkModule.swf"
ready="moduleHandler('seasonal');" />
</mx:Canvas>
</mx:ViewStack>
Is there a more elegant (shorter) way to code the
actionscript function other than a number of "if" statements based
upon the variable or module id?Thanks for the comment. I purposely used the same id in the
example. I need to call the same module in about 10 different
viewstates. I was wondering is there a way around 10 different "if"
statements in my moduleHandler function with lm1.child, lm2.child,
etc.
Possibly some way to write the function with lm(i).child?
Then I give each component a different component name. -
Problem with multiple Toplink/JPA apps in same server
Anyone have experence of running serveral Toplink/ EJB-3 Web apps in the same server (OC4J, alas)?
We seem to get a problem with the second app failing to initialise toplink, with an entity not found message. Each app runs OK on it's own.Yes, they access the same datasource and most of the tables overlap.
We're thinking it might help to have common entity classes and put them in a shared library, but I don't know if this is relevant (setting up shared libraries complicates testing and tends to snowball, I reckon we need about 15 jars all told).
I''ve had some funnies on OC4J before which I think may be to do with it's use of ClassLoaders, for example I initially put persistence.xml in the libary jar with the data model, but for some reason I get the entity not found error that way. It only seems to work if it's in the classes folder.
For the moment we're getting arround the problem with multiple OC4J instances in the server. -
Sql server with multiple instance
hi All,
i want to install sql server with two instance and i want to assign two separate is ips for both default instance and named instance and both should work like
two different server
note: If i logged with one ip(default instance) it should show its own databases not both or named instance databases
thanks
chintalaHi chintala,
According to your description, if you want to assign the two different IP to stand for default instance
and named instance, I recommend you set up aliases on a SQL Server with multiple instances. For example, a physical server is named WinServer and 2 instances of SQL Server named WinServer and WinServer\instance1.
We need to add 1 IP addresse to the WinServer, there is one IP address already assigned to WinServer, 192.168.1.1, by adding one new IP's, 192.168.1.2 .
We need to move into DNS to configure our host names and aliases. The physical machine must be steup as a static IP in DNS. SQLAlias1, which point to the default instance on WinServer, will be setup as a DNS with an address of 192.168.1.1.
SQLAlias2, which will point to WinServer\Instance1, will be setup as a new Host (A) record in DNS with an address of 192.168.1.2.
When everything has been completed on the DNS side, you need to open up SQL Server Configuration Manager on WinServer and configure the protocols for each instance one at a time, restart the 3 SQL services.
For more information about how to set up aliases on a SQL Server with multiple instances, you can review the similar article.

Unable to install SQL Server 2012 along with BIDS & VS 2012 on Windows 7
Unable to install SQL Server 2012 along with BIDS & VS 2012 on Windows 7 professional.
I get the below error
Could not find vsjitdebugger.exe
Blogs say anti-virus is stopping but I dont have one on the system.
Note: I had used SQL 2008 on the system previously and has a refresh i have deleted all the software to speed up the system.
Now i could not install both the software.
Can I get some help regarding this?Hi Nandu,
As your description, you come across an error(vsjitdebugger.exe cannot be found). Please confirm if the error occurs during the installation of SQL Server 2012. If so, please help post SQL Server setup logs. By default, SQL Server setup log file locates
in C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\110\Setup Bootstrap\Log.
Base on my research, this error could be caused by that the previous uninstallation is improper and vsjitdebugger.exe file could be mistakenly deleted.
To troubleshoot the issue, you could start your computer into Safe Mode and fix your problem with one of the following methods. For more information, please refer to the article:
http://www.fixerrorkit.com/fix-error/fix-vsjitdebugger.exe-error.html.
1. You could execute the sfc /scannow command following steps below.
a. Press "Windows+R", type in cmd and then right click "Run as administrator"
b. Type in sfc /scannow (There's a space between sfc and /scannow) into the dialog and hit Enter key and click ok.
c. Wait until the System File Checker finishes the check.
2. You could use a Windows repair installation, also known as a Startup Repair to repair your Windows system files.
3. You could install the latest Windows updates to fix vsjitdebugger.exe error. Microsoft often releases new service packs and system patches to replace or update some DLL files of Windows system.
4. You could use third-party tool such as Automatic Error Fix Tool to fix your vsjitdebugger.exe error. However, Microsoft cannot make any representations regarding the quality, safety, or suitability of any third-party software or information found there.
In addition, if you are unable to install Visual Studio, I suggest you post your question in Visual Studio Setup and Installation forum at
https://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/vstudio/en-US/home?forum=vssetup . It is appropriate and more experts will assist you.

Disappearing disk space Windows Server 2012 R2 with SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise
I've got an interesting problem with a virtual machine in our VMWare environment. It is Windows Server 2012 R2 with SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise installed. I started out with a 60GB disk and it started running out of space, so I increased
it in VMWare and extended the partition to 100GB. Well, that lasted for a bit and so I extended it again. I've done this 3 or 4 times and now I've got a 160GB disk with about 2-3GB of space remaining (and it started with 10GB remaining).
WinDirStat shows 105GB of <Unknown> space being used, which is probably my issue. However, I can't determine what this is and it keeps growing like a tapeworm. The context menu on the <Unknown> files has all the options disabled,
so WinDirStat doesn't appear to have access to whatever the file(s) is/are. I've performed several chkdsk /f on the C: drive and nothing bad is reported. I don't have any restore points and am not running VSS (that I'm aware of). The pagefile
reports as being about 4.9GB, so that's not the issue. No large files are shown anywhere and my explorer settings are set to show me all files, including system files.
When I try to run WinDirStat with elevated permissions, it hangs and becomes unresponsive.
I've even resorted to running CCleaner to see if it found anything, but it simply found the standard temp files and such...about 1GB.
I'm pulling my hair out...and I don't have much to start with. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks
RussIt appears that somehow, Microsoft Fusion Assembly binding logging was turned on and many of the temp folders located at c:\users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\InetCache\IE were filling up with hundreds of thousands of Fusion HTM log files.
This is controlled by an entry in the registry HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Fusion\ForceLog which was set to 1. Hopefully, setting it back to zero will fix the issue. As a result of figuring this out, I have recovered almost 80GB of disk
space occupied by the log files.
I thought WinDirStat would show me what I needed to know, but it turns out TreeSize (which I've used in the past) works much better.

Hi everyone,
I have a plan to install UCCE 8.0 with multiple instance in my lab environment.
I'm not sute that, do I have to use hosted model or use enterprise and just create multiple instance on it.
Actually, I want to implement multi-tenant , I'm not sure because I see that enterprise model also can add more than 1 instance.
And if I use one of this model, could anyone tell me that what server I have to separate.
Thanks in advance for your help.
Regards,
TinnakornHi Tinnakorn,
The Cisco Unified Contact Center Hosted (Unified CCH) solution is largely the same as Unified CCE, but it supports multi-tenant or shared servers to manage multiple customer instances. That is the reason you see the capability to add multiple instance, even in UCCE.
All Unified CCE systems are deployed as a single instance (using the same instance name and number in setup) across all the Unified CCE components.
Please refer to UCCE SRND for more details.
Thanks,

Using SQL Server 2012 Express with Bitocker
Hello,
I'm currently working on getting our SQL Server Express database working with BitLocker but I am coming across a few problems. Here is my scenario:
The OS is partitioned into two volumes (C and D).
The C volume contains the OS and Software, while the D volume is primarily used for the database files (logs, back, and mdf).
The D volume is encrypted using BitLocker
The database connects using the SA account (SQL Server Authentication)
From what I understand, BitLocker must be enabled with the same account that the SQL Server is running on. So what I have done is change the SQL Server service account to the user account (lets say its called User) via SQL Configuration Manager. While staying
logged into User account, I then enable BitLocker via Control Panel -> System and Security -> BitLocker Drive Encryption. I then reboot and then while the software is trying to connect to the database I get the following exception:
'login failed for user sa'.
Is there anything I need to do to get this working? Thanks for the help.Hi moncadad,
When you turn off BitLocker, does the database also show “Recovery Pending”? If so, the simplest cause for “Recovery Pending” might be that a disk spin-up was slow, or a disk became full. Please read this
blog to fix the issue, then check if you can successfully connect to the database after you turn on BitLocker.
However, if you are not able to view the database contents only after you turn on BitLocker, I suspect that there are some issues about configuring BitLocker. As far as I know, Bitlocker must be performed by a member of Local Admins Group, please make sure
that your account is a member of Local Admins Group on your computer.
Also I would like to recommend you post the question in the
Microsoft Bitlocker Administration and Monitoring (MBAM) forum to get better support. For more details about configuring SQL Server with Bitlocker, please review the following similar articles.

Safari 5.0.4 Problem with multiple overlaying plugins
Hi!
I experience an issue only in Safari on a webpage with multiple overlaying plugins. The overlaying plugin will not render in the browser. For instance, on the mainpage there is a flash-banner. When logging in it opens an iFrame overlaying the banner. This login-frame contains java, but Java will not render or load in Safari. Everything is ok in other browsers and a peculiar thing is that the problem only occurs in Safari on certain types of Macs like MacbookPro and iMac. The ordinary MacBook displays everything ok.
The problem must be related to plugins overlaying cause if i resize or zoom in the browser, it may render. If i go to another subpage without the flash-banner, the java-login appears ok. On another subpage it opens an iFrame containing Flash, but the background is also flash. The same problem again. Flash in the iFrame won`t render.
A workaround is to make Java open in its own process (through the Java control panel), but this aint good since all MacBookPro- and iMac-users have to do this. Flash doesn`t have this option either.
When Safari 5.0.4 was released, the changelog said: "Improved stability for webpages with multiple instances of plug-in content".
Updates Safari on several different Macs, but the problem consists.
Anyone know anything about this?Hi,
I use ClickToFlash to get around the overlays.

Gives you complete control over Flash content.

Problem with multiple same emails - thinking of clean reinstall
Hi. My OS is windows vista home edition and I am using Thunderbird version 31.0. My email provider is MSN.
When thunderbird checks mail, Instead of receiving one copy of an email, I am sometimes getting two and even three copies of the same email. They all have the same date and time. I have tried some suggestions including deleting .msf and popstate.dat files and also making sure that the server is not set to keep emails there. This fixes things for a day and then I am back to getting multiple emails. It's annoying.
I am thinking about doing a clean reinstall of TB. I have the mozbackup utiility and I am going to back up emails and contacts. As far as uninstalling thunderbird completely goes, is there an instruction page for that? Does anyone think this will help?
Thanks!A note for the future....
Files:- Are rebuilt by right clicking a folder, selecting properties and then repair. It is easier that digging into the file system. The other "index" you refered to with no extension is not an index, it is the actual mail. Inadvertently deleting local copies of mail not on the server can be something of a disaster. Right clicking the folder and selecting compact will clear corruption there. But it may well get rid of corrupt mail as the MSF files are what is used to display lists in Thunderbird.
This add-on make managing duplicate messages much easier. https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/index-en.html#recDelMsg -
Problems with multiple copies of each photo
I'm relatively new at using Photoshop Elements and when I was moving my photos from my old computer to my new one using an external hard drive I got multiple copies when I uploaded them to my new computer. How do I avoid this?
I think that I had the same photos in diffrent files on the external hard drive and thus got them four times on my new computer. Do I need to sit and erase them by hand(it's 13 000!!) or what do I do. I cann't just let them be, they take up way too much space on the computer.
How do I do not to make the same mistake again the next time I need to move them?
This probably is a silly problem when you are used to the program but we are all beginners some time I guess! Hope you can help me...You can stack the duplicate images and delete the stack.While deleting the stack, application asks which photos present in the stack you need to delete. The stack can be formed from automatically suggest stacks and then you can stack them at one place. You can try this thing first with a small group of images.

How to delete a row from a SQL Server CE Table with multiple JOINs?
I want to delete a record from a SQL Server CE table.
There are 3 tables scripts, options and results. I would like to remove a record from the results table. The where clause contains dynamic information which retrieved via other queries to different tables in the same database. These queries work fine and deliver
the desired data.
The Compact server is a clone of a remote table created using the sync framework. The same query to the remote table works fine.
The error I get is:
There was an error parsing the query. [ Token line number = 1,Token line offset = 10,Token in error = from ]
The code that throws the exception is as follows:
Dim connLoc As SqlCeConnection = New SqlCeConnection(My.Settings.ConnectionString)connLoc.Open() Dim strDel As String = "Delete r from ResultsTable r inner join OptionsTable o ON o.TestName=r.TestName inner join ScriptTable c ON r.TestName=c.TestName WHERE r.TestName = '" & ds1Loc.Tables(0).Rows(0)(1) & "' AND [Index] = '" & lstIndex & "'"Dim cmdDel As SqlCeCommand = New SqlCeCommandcmdDel.CommandText = strDelcmdDel.Connection = connLoccmdDel.ExecuteNonQuery()
The values held in ds1Loc.Tables(0).Rows(0)(1) and lstIndex are
correct so should not be the problem.
I also tried using parameterised queries
Dim strDel As String = "Delete r from [ResultsTable] r inner join [OptionsTable] o ON o.TestName=r.TestName inner join [ScriptTable] c ON r.TestName=c.TestName WHERE r.TestName = @TestName AND [Index] = @lstIndex"
Dim cmdDel As SqlCeCommand = New SqlCeCommand cmdDel.CommandText = strDel
With cmdDel.Parameters
.Add(New SqlCeParameter("@TestName", ds1Loc.Tables(0).Rows(0)(1)))
.Add(New SqlCeParameter("@lstIndex", lstIndex))
End With
cmdDel.Connection = connLoc cmdDel.ExecuteNonQuery()
I have tried replacing the "=" with "IN" in the the WHERE clause but this has not worked.
Is it the join that is causing the problem? I can do a select with the same search criteria and joins from the same database.
Also this query works with SQL Server. Is it perhaps that SQL CE does not support the Delete function the same as SQL Server 2008? I have been looking at this for a while now and cannot find the source of the error. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Hello,
In SQL Server Compact, we can use join in FROM clause. The DELETE statement fail may be caused by the FOREIGN KEY constraint.
Please refer to:
DELETE (SQL Server Compact)
FROM Clause (SQL Server Compact)
