Server 2012 R2 Anywhere Access

Hi there, I was wondering if anyone has the answer I need as I'm pulling my hair out trying to work out what I've missed.
I have a server setup at home and am running Windows Server 2012 R2, I am trying to set it up for anywhere access for when I'm away and for family access to the drives.
I am currently getting the error that the uPnP is not enabled on the router when running the wizard on the server.
I know this isnt true as I've logged into the home hub (4) and have seen it set to on. Extended uPnP security is also set to on. I've turned these on and off and no difference is made.
I've port fowarded ports 443 and 80, but again, no difference, still the same error. (uPnP is not enabled)
Does anyone have the answer for me?
Thanks in advance
Anthony

  • Network Positioning of a Windows Server 2012 R2 Direct Access & VPN Server

    Reposted moved from Windows Server Forums- Security
    Hi
    I'm in the process of creating a new active directory forest with a single domain using AD.Contoso.com to use the Microsoft example. The reason I have decided on AD.XXXXXXXXX.com is to get way from using split horizon (Split Brain) DNS. The requirements
    for our new domain are :-
    2012 R2 AD
    Direct Access & VPN
    Exchange 2013 OWA, Active Sync Outlook Anywhere (Possibly a Hybrid Config where we have on premises mailboxes and some exchange online mailboxes Office 365 etc)
    Lync 2013 ?
    SharePoint 2013 ?
    Microsoft Active Directory Certificate Services
    System Center Configuration Manager 2012 R2
    Two way trusts between old forest and new to enable Transition/Migration
    Ok so that's what I'm aiming for so now the question.
    They are allowing me to purchase a next Generation Firewall may be a Barracuda NG firewall or a Cisco ASA X series so I need some advice on what type of network topology I should configure. I've read that using the two NIC configuration for
    the 2012 R2 Direct Access Server is preferable, one nic on the internal network one on the perimeter. The problem I have with this is that it bridges the internal network and the perimeter bypassing the backend Firewall see image
    The other alternative is to dispense with the perimeter network use the Direct Access server with a single NIC and setup the NG Firewall in a three-legged config with the DA server on the DMZ.
    So all you security experts out there what would be your design for this simple domain? we don't need any HA or Load Balancing.
    Thanks
    Simon

    Ok I'm not sure we are going to get any advice on this subject but one last effort. Our budget can only stretch to one next generation firewall so I'm considering the following three legged firewall design with a two NIC 2012 R2 Direct
    Access server. If someone could validate this configuration or suggest an alternative then I would be grateful.

  • Server 2012 - Can't access external website from internal domain with same name. Tried everything.

    Hello All.
    I have read loads of forums and tried numerous fixes and configurations, but nothing seems to work and I am extremely frustrated at this point.
    I have a client where I setup Server 2012 Standard with Exchange 2013. After reading best practice documentation for DNS naming and reasons not to use ".LOCAL" I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet
    Website now has the same name.
    When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this
    directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
    I should also mention, the website is hosted by an ISP and not locally.
    I added a "www" Host record in the Forward Lookup Zone, I have added the url and ip address to the Hosts file on a client pc (Windows 7) and even tried setting up Split-Brains DNS. Nothing seems to work.
    Running a Tracert takes me to the correct public ip address of the website, but I keep getting this 403 error.
    I am so sick and tired of this issue that iI am at the point of backing up the Exchange and re-rolling the entire server with the ".local" DNS domain name. I have a mirror setup in a VMWare environment and simply using "rendom" to rename
    the domain seems to cause new issues with Exchange connectivity.
    Any pointers and help will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

    I opted to use ".com.na" in which case the Internal Domain Name and Internet Website
    now has the same name.
    This ends up with a split-DNS stup for internal and external resolution which requires extra administration tasks and attention from the administrators.
    When attempting to open the extarnal website eg. "www.company.com.na" from a client PC within the internal "company.com.na" Domain, I keep getting error "403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view
    this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied."
    This means that you are able to reach the Website but it is responding with the access denied error message. That should be checked on the middleware level so if this is IIS running then I would recommend asking them in IIS forum: http://forums.iis.net/
    If this is a Website that is completely managed by your ISP then I would recommend checking with them.

  • Clean Installation of Windows Server 2012 R2 cannot access internet

    I just installed a clean Windows Server 2012 R2 Data Center and all drivers installed with no issue. I used Ethernet connection to access internet via IE (let say google.com) but failed. Clicked "Fix connection problem" and returned "website
    (www.google.com) is online but isn't responding to connections attempts." Therefore, I suspected Windows Firewall (WF) setting. I disabled WF, allow IE in WF, allow port 80 but all did not work in this case. I am able to ping google.com but it just does'n
    work in browser (IE, Chrome, Firefox). The same cable connection I tried with Windows 8.1, 7 with  no issue. Please advise is there any clue I miss up for Windows 2012 R2 Data Center?

  • SQL Server 2012 and guest access to the MSDB database

    Hello!
    Today we were given a vulnerability scan on one of our SQL Server 2012 systems and it is flagging the following issue:
    Guest is not disabled on the msdb database.
    I pointed our security team to the following article:
    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2539091
    My question on this:
    Other than the three cases outlined, are there other possible implications of disabling guest on the msdb database?  Can you point me to a reference that states one way or the other if guest needs to be disabled on msdb?
    I do not like the thought of applying this change blindly and I am afraid of a potential issue caused in some other part of our application that we cannot account for down the road.
    Any info would be much appreciated.
    Thanks!
    -Bill S.

  • MSSQL Server 2012. Error accessing reporting website. Not Found The requested URL /ReportServer1 was not found on this server. Unable to uninstall MSSQL 2008

    Hi all. I have recently installed MSSQL Server 2008, and was not able to access the URL when I clicked on it. It gave me a 404.
    When I installed 2012, I tried the same thing and it also throws me a 404 error. How should I go about solving this? What are the log files that you may need to help me solve this?
    At the same time, I have also tried to uninstall my 2008, but am always stuck at not being able to remove Client Connectivity Tools and some other components. Please let me know what log files you need and I will be happy to provide them. Thanks!

    Strange, but finally the procedure below did solve my problem.
    # Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs and look for '''Anti Phishing Domain Advisor'''.
    # If you click on ''Click here for support information'' you'll see it is a Panda program.
    # Uninstall '''Anti Phishing Domain Advisor''' program...
    # This did solve my problem

    first off, what license do you have installed on the ASA (show version will tell you that)?
    Second, if I remember correctly trunk in HP terms does not mean the same as trunk in Cisco terms.  In HP a trunk refers to the bundling of an interface in what Cisco calls Etherchannels or Portchannels (which the 5505 does not support)
    Also you need to configure names for all the VLAN interfaces and either dynamic NAT for each interface or configure a dynamic NAT that matches all the interfaces (with the any keyword)
    object network obj_any
     nat (any,outside) dynamic interface

  • How do I change the URL to the Remote Web Access server in Windows Server 2012?

    Hallo!
    I have set up a Remote Dexktop Service using the "Quick" deployment method in Server Manager and everything is working greate internally, but I cannot start an app published in Remote Web Access from outside our network.
    The problem is that it wants to start the using the internal URL, for example, server.domain.local, instead of the external one, for example remote.server.com.
    I therefore want to know how I can change the default URL for the Remote Web Access server and all the Remote Web Apps in Windows Server 2012?
    I have allready looked in Server Manager and I can change some of the deployment settings in server manager, but there is no way to alter the URL of the Remote Web Access server. See below images:
    Pressing the internal URL only results in opening the internal URL.
    This was very simple to do in Windows Server 2008 R2 using the tsconfig tool, but it does not seam to be any way of solving this in server manager.
    A possible sollution would be to alter the registry someware in HKLM->Software->Microsoft->Windows NT->Terminal Services. But this can easaly lead to problems due to wrong format, etc. and is probably not supported.
    Is there a simpler and supported way?

    That option can be used to connect to any machine that you want.  The error message indicates that the client machine cannot resolve the name "server.domain.local" to an IP address that it can connect to.
    You have several options for configuring that tab on the RDweb site.  You can even remove it entirely.
    Customization of RD Web Site
    RD Web provides a number of customization options for the RD Web interface, including the ability to control default Gateway server settings and redirection settings. These settings
    are controlled by editing the web.config file located in %SYSTEMROOT%\Web\RDWeb\Pages.
    Displaying Local Help
    To display local help for users instead of the web-based help, edit the LocalHelp value and change the value from false to true.
    <!-- LocalHelp: Displays local help for users, instead of the web-based help. Value must be "true" or "false" -->
    <add key="LocalHelp" value="false" />
    When this value is changed, a user that clicks on Help in the upper right corner of the RD Web login page will open the local help file instead of web-based help.
    Hiding the Connect to a Remote PC Tab
    The RDWeb page
    Connect to a Remote PC tab can be hidden from users to prevent connections to any servers through RD Web other than the servers configured in a collection. By default, this setting is set to true and the
    Remote Desktops tab is displayed. To hide the tab, set the value to false.
    <!-- ShowDesktops: Displays or hides the Remote Desktops tab. Value must be "true" or "false" -->
    <add key="ShowDesktops" value="true" />
    When the value is set to false, a user will not see the Connect to a Remote PC tab when logged on to the RD Web page
    RD Gateway Settings
    If the Connect to a Remote PC tab is enabled, an administrator can configure RD Web to use a Gateway server when connecting to remote computers. To specify a gateway, edit the below
    value with the name of the RD Gateway server:
    <!-- DefaultTSGateway: Admin can preset this to a given Gateway name, or set to "" for no gateway. -->
    <add key="DefaultTSGateway" value="" />
    The default authentication method for the RD Gateway server can also be configured by editing the following section of the web.config:
    <!-- GatewayCredentialsSource: TS Gateway Authentication Type.
    Admins can preset this.
    0 = User Password
    1 = Smartcard
    4 = "Ask me later"
    -->
    <add key="GatewayCredentialsSource" value="0" />
    Devices and Resources
    By default, only Printers and Clipboard are redirected on connections made using the Connect to a Remote PC tab. If the user clicks the
    Options << button, the redirection settings for a specific connection can be modified
    To configure each specified redirection option to be enabled or disabled by default, edit the following section in the web.config file:
    <!-- Devices and resources: Preset the Checkbox values to either true or false -->
    <add key="xPrinterRedirection" value="true" />
    <add key="xClipboard" value="true" />
    <add key="xDriveRedirection" value="false" />
    <add key="xPnPRedirection" value="false" />
    <add key="xPortRedirection" value="false" />
    LAN Experience Defaults
    Windows Server 2012 RD Web Access can display a new user selectable option for optimizing the connection for a LAN experience. This option is displayed at the bottom of the RD Web
    page and can be controlled by the administrator using the following section of the web.config file:
    <!--  Checkbox to opt for optimized LAN experience -->
    <add key="ShowOptimizeExperience" value="false" />
    <add key="OptimizeExperienceState" value="false" />
    This value is set to false by default, but when changed to true, the following checkbox will display at the bottom of the webpage. The LAN experience
    checkbox can also be set as enabled by default.
    Each setting can also be modified using the IIS Manager user interface:

  • Web Access for Remote Desktop on Windows Server 2012

    Hello,
    i've a Windows Server 2012 without a domain. So i installed the remote desktop session host, the remote desktop license server and the remote desktop gateway as a server role only. All is working fine. Without a domain, no management tools for remote
    desktop are available. So i configure the remote desktop via the registry. I define (via registry) some remoteapps, too. All values are copied from a running Windows Server 2008 R2. So the remoteapps are runing.
    Now i want to use the new Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Android. To use a remoteapp i must define a remote resource. To define a remote resource i need a url to the web access for remote desktop. So i installed the web access. But if i login to the
    web access, i don't see any remoteapp. What's wrong? I've set the ShowInTSWA to 1. What must i do to access an existing remoteapp via web access?
    Martin

    Hi Martin,
    Server 2012 RD Web Access is designed to retrieve published RemoteApps and Desktops from a Server 2012 RD Connection Broker and/or a Server 2008 R2 RD Session Host server.  From your description it doesn't appear that you are using either of the above.
    I know it is a more complicated set up, but you should consider having a domain, creating a RDS deployment, etc., so that you can use the full featureset as it was intended.  You can do it all on a single server if needed.  For Server 2012
    there is a hotfix that needs to be applied to permit RD Connection Broker to work on the same server instance as active directory.

  • Add Fibre Channel LUN to Server 2012 R2

    I'm having difficulty configuring SAN storage attached to a pair of 2012 R2 hosts.  I'm building a two node Hyper-V cluster.  Bear in mind this is an operation that I'm very familiar with using VMware.  I'm simply trying to get the windows
    hosts to see the LUN so that I can configure it as shared disk in the Hyper-V cluster.  This is IBM System x3850 storage.  The host each have Emulex LPe 12000-M8 HBAs.  Also, I'm pretty sure that the disk is visible from the HBAs in the OneCommand
    utility.  <see below>
    I've tried to run the mpclaim -e command and it returns "There is no enterprise storage connected on the system"
    What am I not doing? MPIO? I've tried adding a device using the 8x16 rule "IBM     5639            "
    I can't find any documentation that explains how to do this in server 2012 R2 ANYWHERE!!!! I'm pulling my hair out and I don't have that much to lose!! :)
    Please help!
    Thank you,
    Roger

    Again, this is not a Windows issue.  I am not familiar with the IBM utility, so I don't know what that is showing.  I just know that critical to accessing Fibre Channel LUNs is that you have your SAN network zoned to allow the WWPN from your
    HBA to talk to the WWPN of the Fibre Channel controllers, and then on the controller you need to mask the LUN to expose it to the WWN of your server. If that is not done, Windows will not see anything. Once it is done, Windows sees the disk as it if were a
    local disk.
    I do see that you have two HBAs, and some of the WWN information seems to be duplicated.  Most likely you are trying to configure some form of MPIO.  I am assuming that is something provided by the IBM software, but it must be working properly
    otherwise, once the zone/mask is correct, you will see each LUN two or more times, depending upon your Fibre configuration.

  • Restore backups from Server 2012 Standard to 2012 Essentials or Foundations

    The owner of our small office (about 25 employees) wants to have an off-site "emergency server" to be used if the primary office becomes completely unavailable due to fire or other emergency. In the past we did this with a 2003 Small Business server
    in the office and a basic PC stored off site both running Veritas Backup Exec 10 and backing up files to a removable hard drive that could be restored to the spare 'server'.
    Now that we are upgrading the main office server to Server 2012 Standard, the Backup Exec 10 will no longer work and I'm not interested in paying several thousand dollars for licenses for the newest version of Backup Exec for the new server and the 'spare'
    machine.
    So my question is, if I use the built in backup system in the 2012 Standard server, would a spare machine running 2012 Essentials or 2012 Foundations be able to access those backups? Getting the basic OS on the spare server instead of the full 2012 Standard
    would lower the cost significantly and make it easier to fit into the available budget. When used in an emergency, there would probably be at most 5 people accessing the spare server so user licenses won't be an issue, I just need to make sure the backup idea
    is feasible.

    Hi Michael,
    à
    if I use the built in backup system in the 2012 Standard server, would a spare machine running 2012 Essentials or 2012 Foundations be able to access those backups?
    Based on your description, I test something in my Lab environment. I create a shared folder, then backup (not Full server backup)
    to the shared folder via Windows Server Backup on the Windows Server 2012 Essentials. Then logon a Windows Server 2012 Standard and access the shared folder. Then navigate to the backup file (.vhdx file), right click it and select
    Mount. Please assign a drive letter to it in Disk Management. Then you will be able to see all files and folders which were backed up in this backup file (VHDX file).
    In addition, when run Recovery Wizard via Windows Server Backup, you also can use an option ‘A backup stored on another location’
    to select the backup file which was stored in the shared folder for the recovery.
    If anything I misunderstand or any update, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • Server 2012 R2 DirectAccess - 2008 R2 Client

    I have things working for Server 2012 R2 Direct Access and Windows 8.1 Enterprise machines. Now moving on to Server 2008 R2 as a client, the environment is not working.
    I just tried turning on Windows 7 support and applying but still no luck.  I am not seeing much on this, so I suspect it usually just works for Server 2008 R2?
    Mike

    So I forged ahead with an actual fresh Windows 7 machine, all service packed up, instead of the existing 2008 R2 machine that we need to keep for sometime.
    I've installed the DCA 2.0, made the Group Policy edits on the domain.  The Windows 7 machine has received the updates and DCA appears happy when on the private network.
    However when the Windows 7 machine is switched over to the public network, no connection.  Not really much of a hint as to what the problem is.
    RED: Corporate connectivity is not working.
    "Your computer cannot connect to the DirectAccess server. If the problem persists, contact your administrator.
    The Probes FAIL, DTEs FAIL.
    The 2012 R2 DirectAccess server has no knowledge of the failed connection attempts.
    This is quite the challenge...

  • Cannot enable anywhere access in Server 2012 Essentials R2

    Hi all,
    I have recently installed & setup Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2 on Lenovo S20. Everything is going great except for Anywhere Access! I previously had Server Essentials 2012 running on a HP Microserver but the hardware desperately needed upgrading
    & when R2 came out I grabbed my opportunity. I did not do a migration as I only needed to copy my data. I have everything else set up, i.e. AD DNS, DHCP etc etc & all required roles installed but when I access the dashboard Anywhere Access wizard the
    server says it is switched off, so, I go to set up & skip domain name setup as I already have one setup through MS & skip router setup as my ports are already forwarded & the server handles all DNS & DHCP anyway. Click on next & tick anywhere
    access ( have tried with VPN too) & next then click allow current users & groups etc & next again, then the setting up remote desktop box has the green bar scrolling across & that is as far as I get. I have tried multiple times & it never
    goes any further, I have even left it for over 48 hours!! The only option left is to cancel which it does OK.
    I have trawled the internet for answers but cannot find anything similar to my problem. As I say, everything else is OK, local computers connect & see the file structure OK. It is just this anywhere access problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated
    as I do sometimes need to access certain files while away from my premises. I think I have mentioned everything but if you need any more info please ask. I am pretty new to servers & still have a lot to learn but am getting there slowly!!
    Anthony

    OK my friend has so far had no luck in finding a problem :(
    I have looked at the logs suggested but I have to be honest they mean very little to me. I have a Dashboard.log & a SharedServiceHost-ManagementServiceConfig.log which it says was last updated on 7th Dec but I also have another of those logs which ends
    in .2.log so it's full name is SharedServiceHost-ManagementServiceConfig.2.log is this right? That one has been updated today.
    I have uploaded a logs.zip file to my Skydrive space if anybody would be good enough to have a look & tell me what I should be looking for? The link is: Logs.zip
    Thanks for you advice so far

  • Anywhere Access VPN problem on Server 2012 R2

    I am having trouble with Anywhere Access VPN on Server Essentials on 2012 R2.
    If I use a browser from the outside world and enter my external IP address I get a login to the server.
    If I use a browser from the outside world and enter the remoteaccess site I get a login to the server.
    If I try to connect through the VPN from the outside world I get a login request which I complete successfully I then get:
    "Error Connecting to myserver.remotewebaccess.com Error 720 a connection to the remote computer could not be established you might need to change the network settings for this connection"
    Locally I go to the Essentials console and try to configure Anywhere Access.
    When I open the settings window for Anywhere Access  I get the message that it is updating then I get the message "Issues detected. Click repair to attempt resolving the issues" I click on "Repair", after a warning window about
    availability the Repair Anywhere Access Window opens and says Setting up Remote Desktop.  The green bar scrolls but it never completes. (tried for hours)
    I have tried rebooting and repeating the repair, but I get the same results.
    The router is a 3801HGV that does not support uPnP. I have forwarded ports 443, and 80 to the server.

    Hi,
    Would you please let me know if refer to the suggestion that IKFI provided and solve this issue?
    Based on your description, please let me know the client OS that you use firstly. Meanwhile, please refer to
    the following KB, and then check if can solve this issue.

    In addition, would you please let me know if have a DHCP Server in your local network? If not, you have to
    add a static address pool. Meanwhile, please refer to the following article and check if miss something when you install VPN.
