Server 2012 R2 'Required OS Not Detected'

Hopefully a simple one...
I have exported a CAB file (SCCM DCM) from from Security Compliance Manager based on the Server 2012 R2 Member Servers baseline.
I have applied this to a new Configuration Baseline in SCCM and deployed it to a 2012 R2 Server.
This server never becomes compliant, according to the SCCM Compliance Report on the server all of the Compliance Rules are failing because the Expression "Required OS" returns a value of "Not-Detected"
The description in the applied baseline report reads "The Member Server baseline includes settings that are suitable for all servers running Windows Server 2012 R2 regardless of role.", so that would suggest its the correct baseline for the server.
Thanks all!

Hello,
In order to resolve the issue, we need get more information.
What is the current version of your WSUS server? For WSUS 3.2, please apply
KB3734608.
How did you configure your GPO?
Run nslookup WSUSservername, does the output show the correct IP address?

  • SQL Server 2012 DB Engine does not start (clean install with server 2012 and 2008 R2)

I'm trying to do clean installation of SQL server 2012 on Server 2012 (which is runnning as a VM on ESX server) and getting this "wait on the DB engine recovery failed" message. Initially, I though this issue was related to some permission issues
but changing the permission or service accounts didn't help. I'm not seeing any "denied" messages in the log files either. Even with Server 2008 R2 (clean built VM), the installation gives the exactly the same error messages.
My setup is purely for test purpose; so, the security is not a concern. Can someone help or give me a clue where to look?

    Hi Nababoya:
As you are telling this is a test installation process...
In the logs i m seeing the error message "An error occurred while processing the log for database 'model'.  If possible, restore from backup. If a backup is not available, it might be necessary to rebuild the log.".
    1) If the SQL Services was installed successfully and SQL Service was not able to start because of model database issue...
1.1) If you have model database SQL back file, start the SQL Server in single user mode with minimum configuration and try to restore MODEL database
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/sqlserverfaq/archive/2011/05/11/inf-hey-my-sql-server-service-is-not-starting-what-do-i-do.aspx
1.2) If you don't have backups., try to rebuild the system databases but make sure that you are not losing any data critical data on master and SQL Jobs on MSDB
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd207003%28v=sql.110%29.aspx#RebuildProcedure
    2) As if this is a new installation try to repair the instance with the help of setup media file
    3) If the repair option fails., the last option wipe out the complete SQL Server components from Services.msc and Registries and start new installation.
    4) Make sure when you are doing un-installation all the required SQL Server components on services.msc should be in stop state.
Hope this helps and let me know any questions...
    Thanks,

  • SQL Server 2012 Express SP1 will not install on Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2

I have been attempting to install SQL Server 2012 with SP1 Express Edition for about a two weeks and have been unsuccessful.  My organization recently purchased a new Dell PowerEdge T320 Server (64 Bit) with Intel Xeon Proc.-E5-2420; 2.2Ghz, 32 Gb RAM,
1 Tb RAID 5 H/D, and Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials (preinstalled).  The server will be configured as an on premises server.  We are running a small church management application that requires SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express.  Per the direction
of our application vendor, we downloaded the SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express file (SQLEXPRADV_x64_ENU.exe) from the Microsoft SQL Server Website.  We ran the file "As Administrator" and the SQL Server 2012 Setup program began.
We selected New SQL Server Stand-Alone Installation, successfully installed the needed Product Updates, and accepted the MS SQL Server 2013 Express License terms.
When the Feature Selection Page appeared we checked only the "Data Base Eng Services".  The
Instance Configuration Page was displayed and we inserted a "Named Instance= Shelby",then pressed next.  On the
Server Configuration Page the only change was setting the "sql server browser = automatic".  The Database Engine Configuration Page appeared
and we inserted the following settings:1] Server Configuration Tab; a) mixed mode, b)inserted SQL Server Admin pswd, c) added current user as administrator: 2] Data Directories Tab; default/no changes: 3] User Instanced Tab; default/no
changes: and 4] Filestream Tab; default/no changes.  Next the
Reporting Services Configuration Page came up and the reporting services native mode was set to
"install and configure".  The Error Reporting Page appeared and was left as the
"default".  The SQL Server 2012 Setup program proceeded to Installation Progress Page and started to install. Just before the install program ended it displayed a message saying that there
were errors and the Database Eng Services did not succeed. I uninstalled SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express three (3) times, ran Windows Update after every uninstall, attempted to install the Database Engine and got the same results.  Are there any patches or
special procedures for correctly installing SQL Server 2012 SP1 Express on my hardware configuration or Windows Server 2012 Essentials R2?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Can you post the setup Summary and detail logs, which will help to figure out the problem? The details about the location can be found at https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143702(v=sql.110).aspx

  • Password Complexity problems on fresh install of Server 2012 R2, This has not been answered before....

    Hello all,
I have a problem that I can't find the solution to. I have found others with the same problem but the answers provided to them were not the exact situation I am in currently. Please read all the text and see if you can answer this...
I downloaded a copy of Windows Server 2012 R2. I am installing it on a stand alone PRE OWNED server which is a Dell R900 quad quad core server with 16gb ram and 500gb drive. The drive has been initialized and configured perfectly and windows server has been
    loaded.
Upon the start of it, the screen appears that tells you to change your password for the admin account. Upon putting ANY (and I do mean ANY) password in there regardless of the complexity, the machine comes back with ..." The password you typed does
not meet the password complexity requirements set by the administrator for your network or group. Get the requirements from your administrator, and then type a new password."
I have tried new drives with no luck, I have tried everything that one can try on this (except the right thing of course). My guess is that the machine retained some crazy complex password file and stored it in an EEprom on board. If this was a factory fresh
machine, I would guess that this wouldn't be an issue as there was no file created yet that the machine is running it's scripted denial from. So... Does anyone have the exact method for eradicating this file or changing the domain controller or file that
controls this complexity problem WITHOUT HAVING TO LOG INTO THE MACHINE since as I said, you can't log into it. I even tried to go in through Linux to find the password in the SAM and since it's a new copy of windows, and there is no passwords in there, it
couldn't find the file since the admin acct wasn't set up yet (but that domain controller is working it's butt off and keeping me out I tell ya! lol)
Any help would be appreciated more than you know! ...Scott

    Hello Phillip,
Thanks for the reply! Yes, the drive was put in the machine with no other drives (500gb SAS) and installed/initialized without incident. The DVD was put in the DVD drive and the OS was installed on the machine. As the machine starts up again after
install (reboots) the text comes up that says that you have to change the password on the administrator account due to this being the first install of the OS. I put in a password, and then put it in again, then get the statement about the password being entered
doesn't meet the complexity level set on the domain controller and to contact the admin of the network. I then looked up what that was referring to and used a series of passwords that should have worked as they matched the exact complexity that windows stated
in their tech knowledge base. Such as ... P@ssw0rd and another like Pass\/\/0rd!! as well as quite a few others with various names and symbols. Each time meeting or exceeding the 8 chars with upper and lower case with symbols
present. Each and every time that complexity statement in yellow comes up.
I tried changing and initializing 2 more disks and downloading another copy of windows server 2012 R2 and tried it all again. Still the exact same thing. I have never seen anything like this before. I have installed windows server 2003 and 2008 in the past
many times without errors like this but this one really has me beat as to what is wrong.
I read a tidbit on a way to go to DOS and take some files from the DVD and copy them to certain locations on the drive the OS is installed on. That is supposed to write over the files that provide the complexity issues but where ever I saw it, they didn't
go into detail as to what exactly to do. I know others have had the same problem in the past but every answer I can see either doesn't address the question or provides the wrong answer altogether.
That's why I am posting here in a last ditch effort to save this project since the same exact problem is happening when I tried to install windows server 2008 R2 as well. I thought I may be able to just go with 2008 and get that running without the issue
but when I wipe the drives completely, and reinstall onto the drive the 2008 version, the exact same thing comes up.
If you have a solution, I would love to hear it! Thanks again...Scott

  • SQL Server 2012 Express Instance is Not Discovered

I have a single SQL Server 2012 Express instance that is the backend database for a small door security application.  I just noticed after having deployed the OpsMgr agent months ago that it never discovered the SQL instance.  The SQL instance
is, as stated, Express, and it's the only Express instance I have.  Is that why it is not discovered?  All the documentation I found seems to indicate the opposite -- that Express is discovered and there are steps you can take to exclude Express
instances.  I have no overrides set to exclude any instance or any database.
    - System Center Operations Manager 2012 RTM (no SP1, no R2)
    - SQL Server 2012 MP version 6.3.173.1
    - SQL Server is Windows Server 2012
    - SQL Server 2012 Express running on a Hyper-V VM.  Instance is named DOORSERVER\Eclipse
    - Agent is installed and other discoveries seem to be working fine
    - No discovery errors in the event log related to SQL, although there is one about the Windows Server 2008 discovery not being able to start, but I'm on Windows Server 2012, so I am guessing that's okay?
    - No overrides are set on the discovery
    - Discovery has found every other SQL Server 2012 instance (standard and enterprise editions)

Well, just realized I didn't have the latest MP.  Upgrading to 6.4.1.0 version of the SQL MP fixed the discovery issue.

  • SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot System Service not visible in Central Administration

    Hi all,
I want to test PowerPivot 2012 on the following configuration:
    - Windows Server 2008 R2
    - Sharepoint 2010 - Enterprise edition
    - SQL Server 2008 R2
    - PowerPivot for Sharepoint<o:p></o:p>
As such, I downloaded SQL Server 2012 Evaluation and tried to upgrade SQL Server 2008 PowerPivot for Sharepoint instance to SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot
for Sharepoint. It didn't work as it's not possible to upgrade from Enterprise to Evaluation edition without a pid.
Next, I uninstalled the existing SQL Server 2008 PowerPivot for Sharepoint and I installed the SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot for Sharepoint.
I started to configure PowerPivot in Central administration (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210609.aspx) , but I got stuck at the 2nd step Create and Configure a PowerPivot
Service Application (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee210685.aspx) in Central Administration.
The problem is that both SQL Integration Service  and SQL Server PowerPivot System service are not visible in Central administration > Manage
services on server; however they are visible and running in Windows Administrative Tools > Services.
Do you think the services are missing in Sharepoint Central Administration because the Sharepoint configuration database is on SQL Server 2008, while the Powerpivot instance is on SQL Server 2012 ?

    Thank you for the suggestion.
Meanwhile I have managed to solve the problem. What I've done:
    - remove PowerPivot configuration using the Power Configuration Tool
    - uninstall PowerPivot
    - reinstall PowerPivot
    - run PowerPivot Configuration Tool - I still got the parent service error
    - remove PowerPivot configuration using the Power Configuration Tool
    - run PowerPivot Configuration Tool - this time I received another error regarding the user that runs SQL Server Integration services
    - check  Sql Server Analysis Service account in Central Administration > Security > Service accountsManage service account - it seems that it was running under Local System account, although in Administrative Tools > Services it appeared to
be run by my domain account
    - set a domain account for Sql Server Analysis Service in Central Administration
    - run the PowerPivot Configuration Tool - this time it went smoothly.

  • Windows server 2012 r2 vm will not launch from RemoteApp & Desktop connection page

I have setup a RDS test lab and created a un-managed pooled collection which has a server 2012 r2 desktop vm and a windows 8.1 desktop vm. I can launch the windows 8.1 vm through RDWeb access page but I can not launch the server 2012 r2 vm. Can a server
2012 r2 vm be brokered through the connection broker and launched from RDWeb?

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
Does server 2012 R2 VM created succefully and can you access through remote session (not through RD Web Access)?
If possible for a try create a new VM and check the related setting with new user account and then access them whether it resolve your issue. you can refer below article to create VDI.
    Deploying VDI on server 2012
    Hope it helps!

  • Server 2012 R2 Clients will not update via WSUS

We're having a problem with our Server 2012 R2 servers not updating as of about a month ago.  I've read the article about KB2959977.  I don't know if that is the issue or not, but the timing seems about right.  If I go to install this update
on the affected servers, I get a Window that just hangs at "Searching for updates on this computer".
When I look at the Windows update log, I get repeated entries of:

I've attempted deleting it from the actual WSUS server itself, stopping the service, deleting the Software Distribution folder, restarting the service, wuauclt /resetquthorization /detectnow and various other combinations to re-initialize but all I end up
getting are these constant messages in the logs.
    Other interesting errors are:
    2014-08-04 08:50:23:644 2132 1140 CltUI FATAL: CNetworkCostChangeHandler::RegisterForCostChangeNotifications: CoCreateInstance failed with error 80004002
    2014-08-04 08:50:23:644 2132 1140 CltUI WARNING: RegisterNetworkCostChangeNotification: Error 80004002
Anyone else seeing this sort of weird behavior?  Only happens on 2012 R2 servers.

    Hello,
In order to resolve the issue, we need get more information.
What is the current version of your WSUS server? For WSUS 3.2, please apply
    KB3734608.
How did you configure your GPO?
Run nslookup WSUSservername, does the output show the correct IP address?

  • Server 2012 Secondary Domain Controller not picking up AD nor DNS responsibilities

I had a single Domain Controller providing AD, DNS and  DHCP.  I went through the steps to add a Secondary Domain Controller.  All the AD and DNS info shows up in the Secondary Server, however, when my original Domain Controller is turned
off, the second Domain Controller is not taking over for AD and DNS.

    Hi Bayousmurf,
Good that you made some progress. However, can you please provide us the information on how you acheived transfering FSMO role to another DC since you had some issue earlier?
Your initial intention was to demote the original DC. Please follow the below link for the steps to demote the DC.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/library/jj574104.aspx
Still if I power off the original DC the new one isn't taking up DNS.  Still looking into the DNS...
Can you please elaborate what exactly you are looking for? When you power off original DC, you don't see DNS in new DC? Is your DNS active directory integrated? If not please follow the below procedure to make it as a AD integrated. Once done, then, power
off original DC and look in new DC to see if DNS shows up.

  • Copy diagram to clipboard for sql server 2012 the row did not appear when paste in paint

    hello,
i've been trying to create database diagram on my database on sql server 2012 platform. i can create the diagram, but when copy it to clipboard and try to paste it on paint, only the tables name appear without all the columns name. any idea how can i paste
it to have information for both tables name and columns name as well.i've no issue creating diagram and paste on paint for my sql server 2008.
    Thanks in advance.
    kneeah

    Hi kneeah,
According to your description, SQL 2012 database diagram is not printed correctly and several of column names are missed. There are some suggestions for troubleshooting this issue, you can refer to the following steps.
    1. We recommend you can copy database diagram to Word and check if it will print correctly.
    2. When printing database diagrams, several of the tables contain large grey squares instead of the column names. We recommend switch Windows XP computer from Classic theme to Windows XP theme, and check if it can print correctly.
There is more similar issue about printing database diagram, you can review the following posts.

  • Server 2012 R2 Essentials does not wake up clients

    Hi!
I am trying to get my Server 2012 R2 Essentials (Hyper-V VM) to do nightly backups of my Win 8.1 client PCs. As far as I understand the server should be able to wake up the clients automatically from hibernate (I selected this option during setup of the
    connector).
Unfortunately this does not seem to work and I don't find any easy way to test the wake up procedure. What is really annoying is that I don't even find any documentation how the wake up procedure actually works. Does it use Wake On Lan? Are there any magic
    packets involved?
    Any help is welcome.
    Anguel

Larry, thank you for your reply. Yes, I had activated the wake-up option during connector setup. Regarding your recommendation to make the computers wake up through their BIOS I think this won't work as we don't know when Windows Server Backup will actually
back up each computer if you have multiple PCs. This would mean that we would have to leave the PCs on all night, or do I misunderstand something?
In the meantime I found a very nice YouTube video that seems to explain in details how the whole process works:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c6ZOWjaZpIk
According to the video, the server simply schedules a task on the client PCs at some time in the range defined on the server: E.g. if I enter 11:00 - 12:00 this task seems to set a random wake-up time at e.g. 11:25 on the client PC. This task is then scheduled
to wake up the PC - didn't know that this is possible. I will now test again to see if this really works.
Another possible problem may be some special BIOS power settings, for example on my brand new Dell PCs there is a default Deep Sleep option in the BIOS concerning states S4 and S5. When this option was turned on (default) it prevented Wake On Lan from working
at all, although it was enabled in the BIOS, see e.g. here:
    http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19434669.aspx
I first thought that Deep Sleep may be causing my wake-up problem but now according to the video above backup seems to rely on task scheduler only and not on WOL, let's see...
In each case I am very very disappointed because of the lack of docs for the latest Windows Client/Server products.
UPDATE: It seems to work now. As discussed above the clients are woken up by the task set by the server in the task scheduler. This works in hibernate mode. Still wondering how the server exactly schedules backups as it does not know how long a client backup
will take and therefore does not know when to schedule the next PC...
IMHO Windows Server should have offered the possibility to use Wake On Lan too. This is a much nicer way to do backups. It can't be that hard for Microsoft to send out a magic packet which would also be able to wake up a client when the user has shut it
    down.

  • Server 2012 R2 Essentials - Webpages not working

    Hi,
Just completed the initial essential experience configuration and added the DNS service.
Have set up DNS on the server and and I know the router (which is the only one in the network) is working. The dns service is running and the server says it is fully connected to the internet.
Problem is I can't access any websites. When I try to access the router web interface (which the server is directly conneced to) I get a message-box saying I can't open that page and nothing happens (this works with other computers). I can't access any other
    web pages either. (eg. google.com)
Not sure what might be the issue, any help or do i need for information?

    Hi,
    à
I can't access any other web pages either. (eg. google.com)
Would you please let me know whether you can access any website on other client computers? Just a confirmation,
    thanks for your understanding.
Did you install any third-party security software on the server? Please temporarily disable firewall and security
software, then check if this issue still exists.
On the server, please ping the router via IP address and monitor the result. Meanwhile, please ping a public
IP via PathPing command. Any find?
By the way, would you please run
ipconfig /all command on the Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials and client computer, then collect the result and post here? (Please hide all protected or private information.)
If any update, please feel free to let me know.
    Hope this helps.
    Best regards,
    Justin Gu

  • New Server 2012 install - Active Directory not working properly

We recently converted from 2003 to 2012. Our 2012 R2 server seems to be running fine. We did a DCPROMO on the OLD 2003 DC just fine but now there are all sorts of odd errors (Sharepoint can't authenticate users, Can't run Exchange 2013 on another 2012 server
because it can't find AD, etc.)
on the DC we have a Group Policy error 1096. "Group Policy Object LDAP://CN=User,cn={2B476B3E-2749-4B1B-8EC1-F5672A66F94F},cn=policies,cn=system,DC=mydom,DC=local\\mydom.local\SysVol\mydom.local\Policies\{2B476B3E-2749-4B1B-8EC1-F5672A66F94F}\User\registry.pol"
So far I haven't found anything on how to fix this (and the AD itself.) There are some errors in the DCDIAG log, too:
          Starting test: NetLogons
Unable to connect to the NETLOGON share! (\\ISD-DC1\netlogon)
[ISD-DC1] An net use or LsaPolicy operation failed with error 67,
The network name cannot be found..
    Starting test: FrsEvent
There are warning or error events within the last 24 hours after the
SYSVOL has been shared.  Failing SYSVOL replication problems may cause
             Group Policy problems.
Any suggestions how we can fix these errors are greatly appreciated!

    Hi,
Did you migrate the Active Directory from Windows server 2003 to Windows server 2012?
