Server 2012 with AD

Hello Guys and Girls, my name is Chuck.
I am not a wizard when it comes to Server 2012. I recently acquired a job for a company that needed Active Directory and a VPN. The previous IT guy set up Active Directory already. I couldn't get Server Manager to run, well it was repaired after a few days
by Microsoft support. I was successful in setting up Direct Access and Remote Assistance services. So the clients within the network can actually run VPN. But For clients to connect outside the network I need a global IP address. Here is my dilemma, We have
a Meraki FX firewall that I have set up to run site to site or client, and it sees Active Directory and ask for ip ranges for the VPN.  The server with AD on it is behind the firewall and assigned an internal IP address of 10.80.1.2, the Firewall is fed
with one Static IP address and is assigning DNS. I have one NIC being used by the AD Server. Can I use the second NIC and run a static IP from an existing router and assign a global IP and will it work with the VPN? I am getting confused and looking for
a simple solution for our VPN. I am a mid level Tech on 2012. I could use any help I could get. Thanks, Chuck in San Antonio, Texas

I think you are looking at an elephant through a microscope. Let's back up a bit to understand what exactly you are trying to do.
First, the DC should have DHCP configured to give desktops and laptops IP addresses, not the third party firewall. You have more control over options, and because Secure DNS Dynamic Updates, uses Kerberos, it will work with Windows DNS. Meraki or many
other firewalls do not support secure dynamic DNS updates.
Are you trying to setup DirectAccess for client access, or an old-fashioned VPN server? From your post, I can't figure out which. DirectAccess is a secure connection to a network without VPN, but only Windows 7 and newer supports it. VPN is based on Routing
and Remote Access Service (RRAS). Two different things.
But I *think* you are trying to setup DirectAccess.
Can you elaborate on the following? It looks like you have another site that you setup a VPN so this office is connected to the other one? Or is that assumption incorrect?
"We have a Meraki FX firewall that I have set up to run site to site or client"
If DirectAccess is what you want, and you're trying to get DirectAccess configured, what documentation did you follow? Have you seen the following? Maybe they will help.

  • Difference between database features - SQL Server 2008 R2 navtive vs SQL Server 2012 with SQL Server 2008 compatibility set?

I am investigating the impact of upgrading from SQL Server 2008 R2 to SQL Server 2012. To reduce the impact of the upgrade, I am planning to restore / create our application database onto SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 (SQL Server 2008 and
    SQL Server 2008 R2).
Are there any differences in feature support for database running in native mode on SQL Server 2008 R2 vs a database installed on SQL Server 2012 with compatibility level 100 set?

  • SQL Server 2012 with SP1 on Windows 8.1 Pro

Can I install "out-of-the-box" SQL Server 2012 with Service Pack 1 Enterprise Edition or SQL Server 2012 Developer Edition on my Windows 8.1 VM?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
SQL Server 2012 SP1 is fully supported by Windows 8.1, and there is no need to install any SQL update for the installation.
Enterprise Edition is not supported on client operating systems like Windows 8.1 but setup won’t prevent you from installing.
Developer Edition is fully supported on client operating systems.
    Hope this helps.

  • Trying to install features for PowerPivot and Reporting Services from SQL Server 2012 with SP2, but no access to key?

    Hi,
I had installed SQL Server 2012 PowerPivot on WFE and App Server. This is test farm with 1 WFE and 1 APP and 1 SQL Server.
However, we had a heap of issues with Windows Claims Authentication and PowerPivot - issues were raised with "unable to make a connection to EntityDataSource" . Now we uninstalled the PowerPivot and Reporting Services features and wanted to install
with the SQL Server 2012 with SP2. Originally SP2 was installed seperately and we had read there had been issues.
Anyway on trying to install the features again using the SQL Server 2012 with SP2 iso I get
    Could not open key UNKNOWN\Components
I don't want to start deleting or changing permissions as quite dodgey. What is this key for anyway and how do I resolve my issue.
    Thanks.
    John.

    Hi John,
Did you meet the error message during the process of configuring the PowerPivot for SharePoint?
If yes, I suppose that the existing features or components have not been uninstalled completely.
I recommend to delete the two keys left when uninstalling the PowerPivot and please make a copy of the registry keys before you delete the two keys:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServiceProxy
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Shared Tools\Web Server Extensions\15.0\WSS\ServiceProxies\Microsoft.AnalysisServices.Sharepoint.Integration.MidTierServicea
Please check the steps in the link below to see if there anything wrong when you uninstalling the PowerPivot and then re-install it to see how it works:

  • SQL server 2012 with SP2 for hosting VMM 2012 R2 DB server

    Hi,
I would like to implement System Center 2012 R2 Operation Manager, VMM and Configuration Manager.
I have proposed to my customer two MSSQL Server 2012 Box, one for SCOM/VMM DB server and another one for SCCM (SCCM DB and SCVMM DB cannot be on the same computer).
But I read on Microsoft web site that only SQL Server 2012 SP1 are supported for VMM DB server and SQL Server 2012 SP2 is supported for SCOM DB server.
So my question is: Can I deploy one box SQL server 2012 with SP2 for hosting VMM 2012 R2 DB server ?  if not, When SQL Server 2012 SP2 will be supported for VMM 2012 R2 DB server ?

  • Windows Store apps on Windows Server 2012 with XenApp?

We've got asked by a vendor whether our app will be able to support multiple simultaneous users, when installed on Windows Server 2012 and accessed via XenApp.
I suppose the real question here is whether or not Windows Store apps can be run in XenApp over Windows Server 2012 at all, and if so whether there are any special requirements on the apps to support multiple simultaneous instances execution.
The app itself takes each user through a log in procedure, during which all the dynamic user-specific data is retrieved from the back-end server; no such data is stored by the app locally.
Any advice will be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you,

  • Sleep and hibernation is working on Server 2012 with started hypervisor! I do not know why...

    Hi,
I enabled Hyper-V role in the Microsoft Windows Server 2012 on testing computer (PC with i7 CPU and 16GB RAM). I found very strange behavior. The sleep mode was enabled and after command “powercfg /hibernation on” the hibernation is also working.
I tested sleep (S3) and hibernation with started hypervisor and with running virtual machine. I tested sleep and hibernation triggered by power button and even with time-out that was set in the Power Options (I set sleep after 1 minute and
later hibernate after 1 minute and wait).
Sleep and hibernation is working! I do not understand why. Sleep and hibernation should be functional only on Client Hyper-V on Windows 8 and not on the Server 2012.
    Some examples:
Testing workstation (i7, 16GB RAM) with Server 2012 and with started hypervisor:

    Relef Revil

    Hi Ben,
I have nearly exactly the same Problem as Relef Revil.
    I have Lenovo T510 Notebook with Core I7 and a Lenovo T420 Notebook with a CoreI5.
On my T510 S3 Sleep works perfectly with Hyper-V Role. On my T420 Sleep is disabled due to Hypervisor.
If I uninstall Hyper-V Role then Sleep works again as expected.
So, from a Little simple perspective, I Looks like this is a Hyper-V Thing or Problem.
I have als updated to the latest BIOS and latest Intel HD Graphics 3000 Drivers on this Win 2012R2 Maschine.
Also I have installed all possbile latest Versions of all other devices.
Could you probably give me an idea where to search for a solution.
So, what is the logic why Hyper-V disables sleep, when Sleep worked before?
I assumed that Hyper-V and Sleep ist generally possible on Win2012R2, especially when Sleep works perfectly when Hyper-V Role is not installed.
    Kind Regards

  • How to configure the server 2012 with NAT settings & 3 public IP addresses

    Hi everybody,
I received this from my ISP:
Here's your IP informationMain IP: 70.164.1.165Subnet
    Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Gateway: 70.164.1.1
    DNS1: 68.4.16.30
    DNS2: 68.6.16.30
    2 additional usable IP's Natted to 70.164.1.165
    Usable IP's 70.182.178.97 & 98
    Subnet Mask if needed: 255.255.255.252
If you are using one server use 70.164.1.165 as the main IP then add/bind 70.182.178.97 & 98 to the NIC.
    For Linux Servers
    Network 70.182.178.96
    Broadcast 70.182.178.99
If you are using a firewall or router, please make sure you are using 70.164.1.165 on the WAN interface, you can use / NAT 70.182.178.97 & 98 to your server(s).
Main IP can also be natted to your server.
Please make sure shared IP hosting is utilized to conserve IP addresses per ARIN requirements.
I have a Dell server, setup with Server 2012 DataCenter.
I plan to run two VM's running ASP.NET web applications connected using the two additional IP addresses.
I assume I should setup the VM Host to the base address .165 - simple enough no problem and I know how to setup the VM's on their own separate network and I can access the internet - no issues with that.
How do I setup the additional public addresses since they have to pass through the Main address to the correct VM?
I have googled for a few days and my ISP tech people look at me like I want to extract their teeth.  Their answer is to sell me a router and set it up.  This really does not seem that hard a task.

    Try maybe below configuration.
    VMHOST
    NIC1 - 70.164.1.165
    NIC2 - 192.168.0.1
    255.255.255.0
    NIC3 - 192.168.1.1
    255.255.255.0
    VM1:
Bind VM NIC1 to VMHOST NIC2
    NIC1 - IP1:192.168.0.2 255.255.255.0
      IP2:70.182.178.97
    VM2:
Bind VM NIC1 to VMHOST NIC3
    NIC1 - IP1:192.168.1.2 255.255.255.0
      IP2:70.182.178.98
On VMHOST set static traces (use Command Line):
    ROUTE ADD 70.182.178.97 MASK 255.255.255.255 192.168.0.2
    ROUTE ADD 70.182.178.98 MASK 255.255.255.255 192.168.1.2

  • Moving user profiles from Server 2012 with RDS services to User profile disks Server 2012R2

Hello i have a question about moving my C:\users profiles.
My current settings on the servers are:
    AD-Server 2012
    SQL-Server 2012
TS- server with RDS roles (RDwebacces, RDs broker, RD session host) 2012
everything about user profiles is now in C:\Users
My new settings for the server will be:
    AD-ActiveDirectory - server
    SQL-Server
TS1- RDS (RDwebacces, broker, RDS server group management) 2012R2 (I have enabeld userProfileDisks to Filesistem server)
    TS2- RDS(Session host) load balance 2012R2
TS3- RDS (Session host) load balance 2012
FileSistem - server ( here i will have on E: partition the new functionality UserProfileDisks) 2012R2
So is there a way to move profiles from TS - C:\Users to FileSistem - E:\UserProfileDisks
I am new to this so any idea wil be helpful.

    Hi,
If the UPD is configured on the server which holds existing user profiles, just select the option:
store all user settings and data inside the profile disk.
Since you are moving user profiles between different servers, then user profile contents need to be migrated manually.

  • Issue installing SQL Server 2012(with SP1) on windows 7 Error result: -2067529718

When running the installation, it suddenly stops without any error popup.
I ran the installation from the command prompt and this is what I get:
An error occurred during the SQL Server 2012 Setup operation.
    Error result: -2067529718
    Result facility code: 1220
    Result error code: 10
I recently uninstalled SQL Server 2012 SP1, because the SQL server service was not starting up, it would just hang in there with no response. I tried many things to get that issue fixed, finally I decided to uninstall and start fresh but I couldn't since
I was getting an error stating that I needed Windows 7 SP1(which was already installed). I downloaded the
microsoft fix it tool which fixed the issue.
On the control panel/Programs and features, I still see that SQL Server 2012 is listed if I click to uninstall again it tells me:
An error occurred while trying to uninstall Microsoft SQL Server 2012. it may have already been uninstalled. do you want to remove Microsoft SQL Server 2012 from the Programs and features list?
if I click yes, eventually it will be listed again.
currently I'm not able to install SQL server again and besides the info provided there are not error messages (I also copied the installation files to disk).
UPDATE: it appears that the sql server was not completely removed from the system, I still see listed the SQL server(SQLExpress) and server browser services on the SQL server configuration manager.
    Thanks.

    1) First Reboot your server and try again for the installation.
    2) If first fail again than Take a backup of Registry first for safe side and then delete the entries of SQL server 2012 if found take a reboot again and try to install again.
One more thing if installation created any file then move/Delete that also before installation.

  • Multiple owa sites on a single server 2012 with exchange 2013 (mailbox, cas)

    hi,
    I'm trying to
set up an exchange server 2013 on windows 2012 with all roles installed for 2 owa virtual directory, one for integrated windows authentication and the other for forms-based authentication.
    I followed a tutorial for exchange 2010.
    http://technicaljeditrials.info/2011/02/28/exchange-2010-multiple-owaecp-directories-part-1/
    Step 1: IP Address
Obtain a second IP address and add it to the NIC of your server.
    Step 2: DNS
Add a DNS entry for That secondary IP address for the name we will want to use in the new FBA OWA Web site.
    I have chosen "testwebmail."
Be sure there is a valid SSL certificate (recommended to have UC or SAN
SSL certs) on the server Which has the new name "testwebmail" that will be used in the certificate.
    Step 3: New Web Site
Create a new web site in IIS on the Client Access Server and bind it to the new IP address used in step 1.
Step 4: Adding Exchange Virtual Directories
The web site has been created and bound to the secondary IP address of our server.
Also the DNS record That will be used to access the OWA FBA new page was added to DNS.
The next step is to go into EMS and begin adding our virtual directories for OWA and ECP.
Login to the Exchange server and open the Exchange Management Shell.
Then run Get-Get-OWAVirtualDirectory and ECPVirtualDirectory to see the default OWA and ECP directories.
    New-OWAVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName FBA -InternalUrl https://testwebmail.mylab.ad/owa
    New-ECPVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName FBA -InternalUrl https://testwebmail.mylab.ad/ecp
Step 5: Configure the Virtual Directories
To configure the virtual directories we will disable FBA on the Default Web Site OWA and ECP virtual directories
Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity "OWA (Default Web Site)" -WindowsAuthentication
    $true -BasicAuthentication $false  -FormsBasedAuthentication $false
Set-ECPVirtualDirectory -Identity "ECP (Default Web Site)"
    -WindowsAuthentication $true -BasicAuthentication $false  -FormsBasedAuthentication
    $false
    Step 6: iisreset
now if I access the default site I log in with
windows integrated authentication, but when I try to access the second site with forms authentication tells me username or password incorrect
Tell me you know where I'm wrong?
    thanks
    Greetings
    Daniele

    Hello,
    Something like this:
    New-OWAVirtualDirectory -WebSiteName "FBA"
Enable the Basic authentication via running the following command:
    Set-OWAVirtualDirectory -Identity "yourservername\owa (FBA)" -BasicAuthentication $true
Restart the IIS admin service in services.msc

  • Access 2007 ADP to SQL Server 2012 with extended protection

    Hello,
I have a Access 2007 ADP client connecting to an sql server 2012. This works fine with standard security configuration, but when I activate extended protection on the SQL server, the Access client cannot connect to the server. I am using integrated security
with a domain user and get the error message
"Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication."
In sql server logfile I find:

Is there any "easy" solution other than developing a new client based on an up to date Office version or Dot.Net?

Well, I have no problem connecting to the sql server from my pc using ssms with my domain account. I have also sucessfully create a odbc connection using the "SQL Server Native Client 11.0" driver and my domain account. My account is in a trusted
domain, so this seems not to be the problem.
To me it rather looks like if Access is using an old driver which does not support the tls encryption required by the extended protection settings.

  • Need help to deploy server 2012 with DNS role installed.

I want to deploy an image using wds on server 2012. I will be using an answer file for unattended installation with little touch as possible. My answer file works great but I can't get the auto-logon to work and the FirstLogonCommand to run. I added
Components\7 oobeSystem\amd64_ Microsoft-Windows- Shell-Setup _neutral\FirstLogonCommands to my answer file using Windows Image Manager and added these values:
CommandLine = powershell -command Install-WindowsFeature DNS –IncludeManagementTools -IncludeAllSubFeature -Restart
    Description =Install dns server
    Order = 1
Then I did auto logon located at Components\7 oobeSystem\amd64_ Microsoft-Windows- Shell-Setup _neutral\Autologon and added these values:
    Domain = contoso
    Enabled = true
    LogonCount = 1
    Typed the password
    Username = Administrator
These two components alone don't work. It installs server 2012 OK and bypasses all the screens I want to bypass it even joins the domain
contoso successfully. I have to manually logon and then when I logon no scripts or anything is ran. When server manager opens dns role is not installed and not even located under tools.
    Things I tried:
Open cmd as admin and typed "powershell -command
Install-WindowsFeature DNS –IncludeManagementTools -IncludeAllSubFeature -Restart." this worked and installed roles successfully
If I missed anything to help you troubleshoot just ask.

Unfortunately you are posting in the wrong forum.  You need to post deployment issues in the Windows Server Deployment forum.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
