Server 4.0.3, OSX 10.10.2 Internet Reachable, no services available

Hello,
I am very new to using the server application and networks, so please understand this general question in order to understand networks and Server better.
I have Server 4.0.3 installed on my Macbook Pro running the latest version of OSX (10.10.2), and until yesterday was successfully using it to host a website from my computer.
My Macbook Pro uses Wi-Fi to connect to a router. Server seemed to indicate that everything was normal and I could view my website by using the domain name. Today I tried to use Airport Utility to set-up an Airport Base Station, after which I could no longer connect to my website nor connect to the local address. Basically, when I use the .local address nothing happens in the browser, or if I use the domain name address, it times out.
As far as I'm aware I didn't change anything other than from the network pane in system preferences, I changed the location once, and then changed that back.
While trying to configure the base-station, under TCP/IP I may have clicked the renew DHCP lease. After configuring the base station, I noticed that my website couldn't be accessed from the server.
I am using the same Macbook Pro to access the website. Server shows everything has green lights, and is reaschable and accessible, so I'm confused where might the problem be.
What settings should I look at in order to try to find the problem? Are there any reasons why using an airport base station with Server, or renewing the DNS lease would cause problems?

Hi Chris,
I think I found a way to create e-mail aliases on the newest OS X Server 4.0.3. Actually, two ways. In the end it doesn't work, but maybe it gives you or people on the forum clues on how to set it up properly.
You can either go to the Mail service, double-click on your domain, add a new e-mail address for the same member multiple times, editing the e-mail address on the right side:
Or you can open the user from Users accounts and add an extra e-mail address in the Email Addresses box:
Since I know Postfix is behind the OS X Server Mail feature, I looked for Postfix configuration files. Both ways of adding aliases as shown above will add entries to the Postfix "/Library/Server/Mail/Config/postfix/virtual_users" file. The file now looks like this:
# greengaroo.biz
[email protected] pleblanc
[email protected]     pleblanc
[email protected]     pleblanc
Of course I restarted the Mail service, and I checked the date of the "virtual_users" file and the "virtual_users.db" file, both were freshly updated.
Still, it doesn't work. If I send an e-mail from my Gmail account to either alias, I get the following in the SMTP Log:
Feb 13 23:47:33 x.x.x postfix/smtpd[8219]: NOQUEUE: reject: RCPT from mail-ie0-f172.google.com[209.85.223.172]: 450 4.7.1 <[email protected]>: Recipient address rejected: Service is unavailable; from=<[email protected]> to=<[email protected]> proto=ESMTP helo=<mail-ie0-f172.google.com>
But if I send an e-mail to pleblanc AT greengaroo DOT biz, it works. I googled more and many people have similar problems since Mavericks. Maybe it's a bug?
Anyone else has an idea?
EDIT: While I was writing and formatting this post, I suddenly received the e-mails I was expecting for one of my aliases... I will do more tests to make. I don't know what else I did that would have fixed the problem, or maybe it just took some time for the configuration to be applied, I don't know.

  • Migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server

    Hi all,
I'm looking to migrate from Exchange Server 2011 to Mac OSX Lion Mail Server.  I work for a company with roughly 30 employees and they use exchange for mail, contacts and calendars.  We want to take full advantage of OSX Server and to completly get off of exchange.
What are the best ways to do this?  Are there any tools available to help this process?

I agree with the points made by Strontium90. If you have any PCs then Apple's mail/contacts/calendar software is a poor choice. Kerio Connect as a mail/contacts/calendar server would not only support Macs but would also do a good job supporting PCs running Outlook.
If you are going to become a pure Apple site, then you could use just the Apple software and this would be cheaper than using Kerio. For 30 users this might be a suitable solution, however even in a pure Apple environment many people prefer Kerio. For example I find Kerio much more pleasent when dealing with email addresses across multiple domains, email aliases, email group addresses, and so on. Kerio also has built-in email archiving, that is keeping a record of all emails. Kerio also provides a web-browser client for accessing email, calendar and contacts. It is worth noting that as standard Mountain Lion Server no longer includes a webmail feature. While I personally find the Kerio webclient rather ugly it does work.
There are some annoyances I have with Kerio, firstly they have always charged a 'maintenance' fee for their software. This provided access to software updates, and in the past also provided access to Kerio technical support. Unfortunately they now only let you make two (2) support cases per year for that cost, and you now have to pay extra for any more cases. Also while they added support for EWS (Exchange Web Service) to allow using Outlook 2011 for Mac as a supported email client, they did a poor job of this so that it does not work properly with any other EWS compatible client. This means it will not work in EWS mode with Apple Mail, nor with Outlook for Windows. While there are other ways to connect these other clients, this seems a foolish move and there have been plenty of requests to fix this.
Apple's Mail client uses EWS to connect to a 'real' MS Exhange server.

  • ITunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet...???

    Ok I’m completely lost here....
I’m running Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3 (Build 2600), I updated iTunes to 11.0.2.25 and some other updates for windows last night on my laptop. I try connecting to download the iOS 6.1.2 update for my iPhone 4 and my iPhone 5 via iTunes. I am getting this message for both "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet. Make sure your internet connection is active and try again." Everything was fine with connecting prior to running these updates because I downloaded the 6.1 update with no problems when it came out.
What I have done so far with which has made no difference:
    Checked my internet connection
    Changed my internet connection
Signed out of iTunes and then signed back in
Ran diagnostics via iTunes, comes back with: Network interfaces verified- Internet connection failed- Secure link to iTunes store verified
Connection attempt to Apple web site was successful.
Connection attempt to browsing iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to purchasing from iTunes Store was successful.
Connection attempt to iPhone activation server was successful.
Connection attempt to firmware update server was successful.
Connection attempt to Gracenote server was successful.
Last successful iTunes Store access was 2013-02-20 20:40:48.
Disabled firewall, spy sweeper, virus scanner
    start>run>cmd> typed "netsh winsock reset"
    Rebooted
Checked the parental controls in iTunes
    Start>control panel>internet options>connections tab> lan settings> selected the "automatically detect settings"
    Deleted iTunes and reinstalled iTunes
When I would "ping gs.apple.com" it would come back with "request timed out" no matter what internet connection I was on, so I went into the hosts file  start>my computer>(C:)>WINDOWS>system32>drivers>ect>HOSTS and added  "#     127.0.0.1     gs.apple.com". Now it will ping gs.apple.com just fine but still comes up with the "iTunes could not contact the iPhone software update server because you are not connected to the internet" message in iTunes when i try to download the update.
If anyone can come up with any ideas that I haven’t tried, please let me know. This is keeping me back from updating both of my phones along with if anything should ever happen to them; restores as well.

im computer is connected i can go to the apple store through itunes but when i plug my phone in i keep getting that alert... i plugged my phone in to update it after the apple loaded the itunes icon and a usb showed up.

  • "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet" Help?

Hello all, new to the forums.
I've been recieving the error message "itunes could not contact the ipod software update server because you are not connected to the internet". This problem didn't occur at all for the past 2 years of using itunes.
I've already scanned through numerous websites and forums for help, but none of them worked.
This  set of instructions resulted in no change to any of the problems, though iTunes lists that as the supposed solution.
    # Open Internet Options from control panel.
    # Click the Connections tab.
    # Click the LAN Settings button.
    # Select the Automatically detect settings checkbox.
Others include installing IE7, which that didn't work either.
    Can anyone help?

  • What can I do when I try to access a URL and get the message "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:"?

I recently tried to download a pdf file from a website in the UK.  Up popped a message saying the website could not be accessed, followed by this message: "MAC OSX doesn't recognize internet addresses starting with "c:".  I was able to access the website easily (its domain was "www") and the page listing the pdfs, but could not download a pdf.  Of course," c:" appears not to be a valid domain name, but why would anyone use "c:" in place of a domain name in their URL?  And what can I do about the problem?  I'm using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.10, but also have Firefox and Chrome loaded.  Thanks.

An address starting with c: wouldn't be any kind of domain name. C: is the drive lettering system DOS and and later uses. By default, A: and B: are reserved for your first and second floppy disk drive. All hard drives are then named C: through Z:, if you have that many. C: is normally your startup disk.
Anyway, their PDF file is incorrectly linked to a file directly on the C: drive of someone's computer. It's not going to work no matter what you do.

  • SSIS: To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install SCR - DP1 Connections of Integration Services or higher

We have SSIS installed on a machine that is not part of a cluster but it is accessible by the cluster.
Our job we have running on the cluster is failing with the following error:
    Error: 2014-01-31 09:14:37.52     Code: 0xC000F427     Source: SCR - DP1 Connections
Description: To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install SCR - DP1 Connections of Integration Services or higher.  End Error
Any advice or information on how to resolve this would be great.
    Many Thanks.

    Hi NessaBella,
Integration Services service is not a cluster-aware service, and does not support failover from one cluster node to another. Therefore, in a clustered environment, Integration Services should be installed and started as a stand-alone service on each node
    in the cluster.
Based on the error message, it seems that SSIS is not installed on the cluster node on which the job was running. Although SSIS is installed on a machine that is not part of the cluster and can be accessed by each cluster node, the SSIS service installed
on a remote server cannot be used a cluster node. So, please install the shared feature SQL Server Integration Services on each cluster node. Besides, if certain packages need to run in 32-bit mode in certain jobs and the SQL Server installed is 64-bit version,
you also need to install BIDS/SSDT on the cluster node to get the 32-bit runtime of SSIS.
