Server Admin and 'alphabetize' the list in File Sharing

Hi,
i searched but didnt find the answer for this (dumb) little problem;
in Server Admin (10.5.3) i am ready to give a huge list of directories different ACLpermissions.
When i browse to a sharepoint all the directories (about 60) are sorted in date.
Is there a way to "alphabetize" this list in Server Admin?

Like most column views in Server Admin you can click the column header to sort the list by that column. The change doesn't appear to be persistent, so you'll need to do it each time you launch Server Admin, but it should suffice.

When you connect the iPod to the computer and iTunes is authorized for your Apple ID, then you will get a prompt to transfer the purchases from the device to the computer. Keep in mind this will only transfer purchased items from the iTunes Store.

When you scroll to the bottom of the list of files in Finder, the left to right scrollbar doesn't let you click the last file and it covers the file for a while until it disappears. Is this a bug? How do I not make that happen?

An odd workaround: click "Always" in System Preferences/General/Show scroll bars. The scroll bars will always show, but they won't cover your last file.

Mailman, Server Admin, and mailmanctl launchd item

I upgraded my Mailman to 2.1.12 today, and I had some of the usual problems, some not so usual. I'm used to seeing that mailing lists are stopped in Server Admin, but I would like to be able to see mailman logs in Server admin, and I would prefer not to have to create my own launchd item to execute the mailmanctl command. Logs are an old problem, but the mailmanctl launchd problem is new. Are there fixes for these two problems? I configured with
./configure --prefix=/usr/share/mailman --with-var-prefix=/var/mailman --without-permcheck

I tried it, thanks. Mailman didn't like the config, though. It warned me about using group id "_postfix" and wouldn't distribute until I had reconfigured using --with-mail-gid=_mailman instead of --with-mail-gid=_postfix. Plus I still don't get any connectivity out of Server Admin. I had already edited the launchd file for use with my earlier replacement, so I guess I'll go back to that. It works, I just wanted fewer Server Admin orphans. I have to toss things anytime there's a system update, anyway. Thanks again.

Exporting server admin and service preferences for backup

I have never used this feature and would like to know if there is any problem using these exported files to reinstall the server admin and service preferences?

Testing your own full recovery path is a Good Thing.
I tend to use the export and import knobs when I'm going to go mess with stuff in a test configuration, and I want a path back and a way to restore the previous settings. (Though because the services can be reconfigured and modify files elsewhere on the disk and entirely dependent on what I'm testing in SA, this isn't necessarily a good global solution. Which gets back to recovery testing. And occasional full disk backups with Disk Utility or analogous.)

Mail is backed up automatically. If you make backups automatically, open Mail application and then, open the Time Machine app (in /Applications/Utilities). You will access to the Time Machine interface, and you will be able to see all your mails of all the backups you have, and you will be able to restore them. It means that your mails are backed up onto the Time Capsule

If you are intent on changing the coherence.xml file, then you could use the JAR command (that comes with Java) to extract the coherence.xml file from coherence.jar and the later repackage the coherence.jar file using the udpated coherence.xml file, e.g.:
C:\java\opt\coherence-331\lib>jar -xvf coherence.jar tangosol-coherence.xmlextracted: tangosol-coherence.xml>
Instead of using JAR, on Windows you can associate the .JAR, .WAR and .EAR extensions with WinZip and use it to access / modify the contents of JAR files.
However, the suggested approach is as follows, and does not include any changes to the tangosol.jar file:
The tangosol-coherence-override-dev.xml file can be found in the coherence.jar file. After editing this file (in this case to define a unique value for the port system-property value for the multicast listener), save the file and add it to the server's classpath. When the server is executed, the values in the tangosol-coherence-override-dev.xml file will override any corresponding settings in the tangosol-coherence.xml file.Peace,

DO NOT remove either folder. DO NOT mess with any OS X system files either. If you have dupliocates check your files in iPhoto, iTunes and your iMovies libraries. Also check your data files, under ALL circumstances stay away from any OS X systems files or you will probably bork your Mac to the point it will not run.

We have reached a stage where we are about to go live with Discoverer Viewer, and I am interested to know what others have encountered or done to with their pref.txt file and viewer look and feel..
Have any of you been able to add additional lines into the file, please share ;-)

Wow, what a question and the simple answer is - it depends. It depends on whether you want to do the query predictor, whether you want to increase the timeouts for users and lists of values, whether you want to have the Plus available items and Selected items panes displayed by default, and so on.
Typically, most organizations go with the defaults with the exception that you might want to consider turning off the query predictor. That predictor is usually a pain in the neck and most companies turn it off, thus increasing query performance.
Do you have a copy of my Discoverer 10g Handbook? If so, take a look at pages 785 to 799 where I discuss in detail all of the preferences and their impact.

I was just curious :
What is the list of file prefixes that make a file appear first in the finder?
For example, files and folders whose names start with "A" will appear before files whose names start with "B",
but what about a list of characters for files and folders before the letter "A"?
I'm doing some file organisation, and I need certain things to appear at the top of the list.
I have noticed that the character-prefixes "0" and "(" seem to make things appear before "A"
I would like a complete list if there is one available.

Pretty much any number or a space character. Punctuation does too, in theory, but I'd advise to limit it to hyphens and underscores. Periods are OK in the middle of file names but you won't be able to start a file name with one at the Finder level since that would actually hide the file.

If you know the folder, you could do a List Folder Contents to get a list of files in that folder. You can then just use Array Index to get the file you want.

Error after Installing and updating the DADS.CONF file

I was able to get all the software installed for AE 3.0.1 and open the HTTP Server prior to updating the DADS.CONF File.
So far I have not been able any errors in the Apache/Apache/logs directory that point to the issue.

Shrink the List of File Types in the Save As List

How to I simplify the list of file types in the Save-As file type list? I use less than six file types. I have no need for most of these.
It would be nice to have my top 5 and then the ability to go off-menu if needed for others.

I was able to reduce the list of file types by changing some file extensions. In the following folder
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)\Required\Plug-Ins\File Formats
I inserted a tilda (~) into the file extension for these files:
Cineon.~8bi
Dicom.~8bi
JPEG2000.~8bi
PCX.~8bi
Pixar.~8bi
Radiance.~8bi
U3D.~8bi
Adobe Photoshop CC has "File Formats" in 4 different places! Two each for the x86 and 64 bit versions.
Since I don't use the x86 version very much, there was no great desire to mess with those two folders.
I'd would also like to get rid of
JPEG Stereo (*.JPS)
Multi-Picture Format (*.MPO)
Photoshop Raw (*.RAW)
Portable Bit Map (*.PBM, *.PGM, *.PPM...)
I see "Camera Raw.8bi" in
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Plug-Ins\CC\File Formats
but renaming it didn't help.
For others who want to do this, and are concerned, just make a note of the file extensions you are changing so you know how to return to the way things were if you ever need to save as a file type that has been removed from your list.
You must relaunch Photoshop after making any file name changes to see the effects.
Any ideas on how to get rid of 4 more file types from my list?

Where is the list of files that the migration assistant was unable to copy located?

The Migration Assistant successfully finished transferring most of my information between my old MBP and my new rMBP, even thought the "less than a minute remaining" actually took several hours, even using Thunderbolt cables.
At the end of the migration, the Migration Assistant displayed a message "not all of your files could be transferred".
Where is the log containing the list of files that couldn't be transferred?
The only system log entries relating to the migrations system are of the "2/27/15 9:17:14.000 AM kernel[0]: Process systemmigrationd [546] disabling system-wide CPU Throttling" variety.

I would suspect--though I don't know for certain--that the hyphenation-marking digits work as in other UNIX programs. Here are two leads:

Cant Access Server Admin and Server Preferences anymore

After upgrading to the latest Mac OS X 10.6.5 Version and/or changing Admin Password (I dont know the reason yet) I dont have access to my Server Admin and Server Preferences while I still can use my Workgroup Manager including Directory Admin (driadmin) and System Preferences. My Client Macs cant access Filesharing services and timemachine backup service anymore on the server, too. Other Services like MyEyeTV, Wuala, iTunes are working fine on the server and can be used by my Client MACs in my LAN.
How could I proceed to fix this issue?
What I have tried so far:
I have tried to access my Server Admin thru the Client Mac mini using Server Admin App.
I checked the OS Version: Mac OS X Server 10.6.5 (10H575)
I checked the Server Admin Version: 10.6.5 (328.4)
I also reinstalled the latest MAC OS X Server Update 10.6.5
I still have root access. (Verified by DataQuest Engineer)
Used also 127.0.0.1 Address to Access the Server.
Is there a more elegant way to fix this issue than reinstall the server?

... well uninstalling "Hands Off!" Application solved the problem.
Also if I assumed that i disabled this application, it was still active.
