Server Admin. file sharing lion client to Snow leopard server

I'm running Lion on my client Mac and my Server is Snow leopard 10.6.8. I have to use Server Admin 10.7 on Lion but there is no "File Sharing" tab to set up or edit the file sharing options on my 10.6 server?. I understand this is correct for Lion Server, but how do I get round it for Snow leopard Server?? On the Apple website compatibility page (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1822) it states:
"Mac OS X Server v10.6
To administer a Mac OS X Server v10.6-based server, you can use the Server Admin Tools 10.6 on a Mac OS X v10.6 (client) computer. You should match the version numbers of the server, tools, and admin workstation as closely as possible; for example, use Server Admin Tools version 10.6.8 on Mac OS X v10.6.8 to administer Mac OS X Server v10.6.8. You may also use the Server Admin Tools 10.7 on an OS X Lion computer to administer Mac OS X Server v10.6."
So, How do I administer file sharing???

To configure File Sharing on a 10.6 server using 10.7 Server Admin, click the service (AFP, SMB, NFS, etc.) then click the Share Points tab.

File sharing requires Internet in Snow Leopard?

I have two Snow Leopard Macs (10.6.5) and One Tiger (10.4.11) Mac all connected by cable to a router, each with a static IP address. When I have the Internet connection plugged into the WAN port of my router and modem turned on, file sharing works fine from any Mac to any other.
But if I have the Internet turned off and start up the computers, I cannot connect to a Snow Leopard machine to access the hard drive from either a Tiger machine or the other Snow Leopard machine. When I choose connect to Server in finder, and put in the IP address of a Snow Leopard Mac, it just times out, like that Mac don't exist on the network. I remain able to connect to the Tiger machine to access its hard drive via file sharing.
Why does Snow Leopard seem to need an Internet connection in order to be reached for file sharing on the LAN?

I finally got to the bottom of the file sharing issue. I had the Snow leopard machines' network preference setting "Configure IPv4" set to "Manually". I had entered the IP address, router, subnet, and DNS server for each machine. DNS server was set to be the router, as I have my preferred DNS servers configured in the router. If I change Configure IPv4 to "Using DHCP with Manual Address" and remove the DNS server from Network preferences, causing it to be obtained from the router, this fixed the issue. (The DNS server still shows as the router's address, but it is now supplied by DHCP.)
I am still curious why configuring both the IP address and DNS manually causes the issue, while using DHCP for the DNS with fixed IP address fixes it.

File Sharing Keeps Crashing on Snow Leopard Server

I use a Snow Leopard mini server running OS 10.6.4. The server works as a file sharing hub for my network. Lately, something strange has been happening. On several occasions, the network file sharing function has suddenly gone dead with no warning -- in other words, open file sharing connections are suddenly cut off, and when I try to re-access the server to reinitiate file sharing, it lists no drives available for browsing.
When I restart the server, the problem seems to resolve itself (temporarily), and the server gives no indications of anything having gone wrong. The other weird part is that this problem is exclusive to Mac systems trying to access the Mac server. In other words, PC computers on my network are still able to connect and share files without any trouble, even after the apparent stall has occurred.
Any ideas? It is getting annoying to have to restart the server every few days. Thanks!

Can I image Lion clients from Snow Leopard server using SIU?

I have a new iMac Lion client I need to image to a number of machines, using Snow Leopard Server, but System Image Utility will not recognize the Lion client as a valid source volume? Has anyone else experienced this yet?

Images must always be created on the same OS.
You'll need to download the Lion Server Admin Tools onto one of the clients and make it your "imaging system".

Lion clients with Snow leopard Server

Are there known issues with a Snow Leopard Server Mananging Lion Clients. I currently manage 40 IMacs in two labs
all running Snow Leopard, the only services I use on the Mac Server are Open Directiory, Print Services, AFP, and FireWall services
the Server is a Mac PRo with 2x3.2 Ghx quad-Core Intel Xeon Processor and 32. GB RAM

Snow Leopard can't serve AFP devices to Lion clients out of the box. There seems to be a workaround, but I haven't gotten it working myself yet.

Server Admin - File Sharing - Show "invisibles"

Leopard Server, v10.5.7 - Server Admin, File Sharing: Would like to be able to see system directories (such as /var, /bin, /private) in the Volumes::Browse window. I find it odd that "mach_kernel.ctfsys" =is= visible but other system files and folders are not. Is there any way to increase the verbosity of the Volumes::Browse window?

HELP! How do I remove Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard & my files BUT I just discovered my Apple Time Capsule which was using Time Machine DIED
I had to go to MacMall and have the Time Capsule data transfered to a new BAK drive($300+$300)
(The Apple Store sent me there as they said they do not do data transfer)
Now what do I do?
? ? One Senior advisor said that I will have to drag and drop the data file or files? from the Time Capsule BAK drive back to my iMAC but will that include all the Snow Leopard operating system ?

Your post is confusing to read too.
It sounds like you still have your files on your Mac. Why do you want to back track to Snow Leopard on your Mac? Why can't you read your files from your Mac? If your files are on your Mac, why are you taking them off your broken Time Capsule? You don't have to install Snow Leopard to transfer your files back to your Mac. Maybe step back a bit and explain your situation a little better with details. For instance, what's a BAK drive? Suggest you explain what you are trying to do?
Before you do anything, create a backup of your Mac to another disk drive.. suggest you use Carbon Copy Cloner to make another copy of your Mac.

If your machine came with Snow Leopard or earlier and you have your install disks, yes, you can reinstall SL. However, you will need to erase the entire hard drive so you will lose all your files. Also note that there are some apps (such as Mail) which can't be downgraded "automatically" such as with a restore from Time Machine. Here is some info on TM:

All I can say is make sure you have the same account name on the computer like before, even if you have to create a new user under System Preferences>accounts, then log into your itunes account with that and try to reverse sync from the iPhone like you would normally.
Apple doesn't expect one to go backwards, so they are not all that friendly, you may have to ask around on MacRumors for third party software that can reverse sync from iOS devices.

To get more to the point the answer is the only way to go back to SnowLeopard is if you have a complete backup of your system from before the upgrade.
If you do you would boot off your original SL DVD wipe the disk and install SL and then restore from your SL backups.
Short of that here is no way to go back. But as the others have offered there are other less drastic means to deal with the problem.

Renaming a file in Finder changed with Snow Leopard somehow?

I've used an AppleScript for ages to:
1. choose a file (a screenshot)
2. prompt for a new name
3. File is renamed by Finder with new name
4. compose a command to copy it to another server
It seems Finder is not updating the "alias" to the file since I upgraded to Snow Leopard; this very code has worked for the last few versions of OS X:

For some reason the file alias "screencap" does not get a new name. Any suggestions?

When I run your script, the file name does get changed, it is just that the Finder is not keeping up with the script. There are a few fixes:
1) add a short delay after the rename (delay 1 seems to be enough)
2) use *System Events* instead of the Finder
3) add an update command after setting the name in your FInder tell statement (e.g. update screencap)
Note that an alias will still point to the same file item (even if it does have a different name), but the POSIX path of the alias object does need to be updated before you can use that.

Back up your data files.
Use the Snow Leopard installer disc to completely erase your hard drive and everything on it.
Re-install the SL operating system, then all your applications, then your data files.
If you happened to make a bootable backup clone of your hard drive before installing Mountail Lion then you can just clone the backup back to your drive.

Time Machine in Lion, restore in Snow Leopard

Does anyone know if I use Time Machine to backup my documents and applications within Lion, re-install Snow Leopard and its apps from the disks that came with my iMac whether Time Machine in Snow Leopard will be able to use the backup I made in Lion to restore my files? I am worried about backward compatibility and I have to "downgrade" back to Snow Leopard.
I am running a 27" screen iMac.

How do you erase Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard

I want to remove Lion and reinstall Snow Leopard. I put the install disc in and clicked Install so that I could get to the disc utilities. Got a reading that this version of OS X cannot be used on this computer. I'm using a mid-2010 15" MacBook Pro. I don't have any backups made, but I am not worried about that...I just want to go back to using Snow Leopard. Lion has too many quirks I don't want to put up with. Any suggestions?

Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard (see below.) I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
If you have Snow Leopard Time Machine backups, do a full system restore per #14 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions. If you have subsequent backups from Lion, you can restore newer items selectively, via the "Star Wars" display, per #15 there, but be careful; some Snow Leopard apps may not work with the Lion files.
