Server Admin Problem - File Sharing fails to load

We recently switched over from a 10.4 server to an Intel Quad Core Xserve running 10.5.8. Things seemed to be working for about a week but now The File Sharing part of Server Admin fails to load. After spinning for a few minutes I get a kNetworkError on the File Sharing Service.
I'm not totally through setting up all the share points so this is causing quite a problem. Otherwise the Sharepoints that are set up are working properly. The first time this happened a server restart cleared the problem. This time nothing seems to help.
Anyone have a cure for this?

The problem seems to be getting worse. Once the error occurs some of the other services are not available through SA either. Anybody have any suggestions, or is it a reformat and reinstall situation?

  • Linux - Oracle - Crystal Report Server XI : Error in File Report1: Failed to load database information.

I am using Crystal Reports Server XI on Linux Server with Oracle Server 10g.
I did install Oracle Client on Report Server and config Oracle SID in tnsnames.ora also. It works well with tnsping command. Then, I published a report which was created in Crystal Reports developer on this server.
When I preview the report on Report Server. I got the following error message:
Error in File Report1: Failed to load database information.
Try to fix the problem I ran web Central Management Console -> Objects ->Report1->Process -> Database and set there the following parameters:
    Database driver: Oracle
    Server: servers_host_name
Database: (tried both ORACLE_SID and tns_name)
    User: oracle_user_name
    Password: oracle_pw
It still got the same problem.
    I will appreciate any help.
    Tham.

I was having a similar problem in Crystal Reports Server 2008 v1, and had to install the full client to resolve it, which I didn't like.  I poked around some, and was able to get the Instant Client working with a few minor changes.  Note that I tried it only with the 32-bit Instant Client even though I was on a 64-bit system because that was what SAP recommended when I talked to them.
The changes I had to do was initialize the Oracle environment variables (the instant client doesn't have a script to do this for you) and to create a soft-link which is included in the full client, but not in the instant client.
To setup the environment variables I created a file called env.sh and put it in /opt/crystal/bobje/setup/oracle/, where /opt/crystal was my install path.  This ensured that it got called by the /opt/crystal/bobje/setup/env.sh script which runs as part of the System init scripts to initialize the environment.  The following is what I put in my file (again for the 32-bit 11g R2 instant client):
         export ORACLE_SID=summitdb
         export ORACLE_HOME='/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client'
         export ORACLE_BASE='/usr/lib/oracle/'
         export TNS_ADMIN='/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/network/admin'
         export PATH="$:/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/bin"
         export LD_LIBRARY_PATH="$$/usr/lib/oracle/11.2/client/lib"
After that, I created the missing soft link using this command:
         ln -s "$/lib/libclntsh.so.11.1" "$/lib/libclntsh.so.10.1"
Once I had done those two things, and restarted the service using the /etc/init.d script, it worked fine.

  • Error message 'The Outlook data file (.pst) failed to load for this session.' when adding PST in Outlook addin

    Hi All,
I have an Outlook (2003-2013) addin developed using C# (NOT VSTO).
A new client (using the desktop client for Outlook 365) has got a COMException error message stating 'The Outlook data file (.pst) failed to load for this session.' at the code line where I add the PST store (using Microsoft.Office.Interop.Outlook.NameSpaceClass.AddStoreEx).
I have never come across this error message before and there is barely any mention of this message on any forums. The only question I could find regarding this has been asked mid 2014 and hasn't been answered.
I'm fairly sure this is not related to either DisablePST or PSTDisableGrow registry key settings as I check fore their existance and notify the user separately.
Could anyone help me out on how to resolve this? I do not know where to begin even.
    Thanks!!
    Cheers!

    Hi Eugene,
    Thanks for the reply.
I pass the location that the PST is to be created (as a string), and the OlStoreType.olStoreUnicode constant.
The client is using a network location to store the PST file (even though we advised them not to) - leading to many corrupt PST files (that they are apparently happy to live with), but this is the first time we came across this message.
I would assume the problem is with that file, as no other clients are having any issue like this.
Have you come across this error message? Do you know what sort of scenario could be responsible for it?
Or would I have to file it under "random problems generated by network PSTs"? :P
    Cheers!

  • 10.8.4 (server) and windows file sharing problem

    Hello
This is a clean install of 10.8.4 and server apps not and upgrade of 10.5.8
(This server had a working 10.5.8 server install.... sigh!)
AFP, SMB and guest access enabled on all shares
Guest sharing enabled in the User accounts in System prefences.
from any Mac station AFP:// and SMB://   works fine using Guest access or typing in any name.
No Windows station ( Win 7, XP, SRV 2008 ) can connect to the shares successfully.
Tried from stations that are part a local domain and others who are just in a WGRP
When attempting to connect to the Mac server shares the log in window appears and
no matter what is typed in ( Even the Mac server admin account) or guest
    the connection fails
Error:  is not accessible, you might not have permission to use this network resource
    the remote procedure call failed

I'm actually having the same issues as Shawn. No non-Mac computers can connect to the new Mac Pro server (10.8.4) using SMB. Mac users can use SMB or AFP without issue.
Here's a screenshot of the message Windows users are seeing:
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to get this fixed? This is urgent!

Your module NC_REF.fmb (or NC_REF.olb), which is referenced for shared objects, cannot be found. The best way to test it is to place it in the working directory (the start-in directory of the windows shortcut from where you launch Forms Builder). That way you are independent from the FORMS60_PATH, because the working directory is searched first.

  • Error in File file path Failed to load database information

I've search the forums and haven't been able to find a solution or understanding of the problem.
    I'm getting the message:
Error in File d:\temp\procSched\jafapennp005.enne.entergy.com.jobserver\~tmp173854eb868aa00.rpt: Failed to load database information.
When I have the scheduled report in Crystal Enterprise XI.  The report datasource is Oracle via OLE db.  This report is the only one that fails regularly.  If I run it on-demand in CMS, it also fails
I changed the time from 06:00 Eastern to 04:00 Eastern, it ran for a while, now just fails consistently.  I am able to run it from my local Crystal install on my PC without issues.
The report is a bit "piggy" and takes a while to format.
Thank you in advance for any insights of what I can do to fix the problem.

Hi, You mentioned that the report fails when scheduling and running on demand. However you said that you changed the time from 06:00 Eastern to 04:00 Eastern and the report ran for a while. That means the middleware configuration on your server is probably ok. Can you clear your logging directory and activate the trace for your cr pageserver and the cr jobserver. Run the report on demand in infoview and schedule it. Check your trace for any hints.

  • Mavericks Server and AD File Sharing

I have been struggling with the setup of shared folders on a Mavericks Server with users connecting to it via our campus AD.
Have bound the server to the Active Directory on campus.
Created folders on a volume connected to the server for each of the individual instructors.
Activated file sharing within the server
Within Server - File Sharing - Clicked the "+" and added that folder.
Clicked the Edit permissions icon. The default is the local admin account of the Server. Changed the local account user to an AD user and give them Read/Write permissions for that folder.
Have lab machines that are bound to the AD.
Users log in via their AD credentials without a problem.
A local home managed account is created on that machine and is deleted on logout.
Have them go to the "Go" menu and connect to Server option.
Enter in the address of the server and connect with their AD username and password.
    The problems are:
    #1
Instructors create "DropOnly" folders within their share folder. They change the permission of "Everyone" to "Write Only"
Students connect the same way and drop folders into that "Drop Only" folder.
Instructors are not able to delete that folder after viewing it. Says they do not have the correct permissions.
Why are the folders that are put in there not taking on the permissions that allow the Instructor full control? (See screen shot of dropped in folder below)
    #2
If the instructor looks at the permissions of their shared folder, Why is it that "everyone" says "no access" even though others can open it. (See Screen shot below)
Things do not seem as straight forward as they did in past server settings. While the creating of shared folders seems easier, the control of them seems less.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pete

To connect up to 10 Macs for File Sharing, you do not need the complexity and restrictions of Server at all.
Create a new Account on the central machine, not an standard User or an Admin, but a Group, make the Group own the shared folder, and make everyone a member of the Group, with Read/Write access to the files.
System Preferences > Sharing > File Sharing ...
... allows you to specify how and what to Share.

  • I've been having a problem with Safari failing to load about 10-20% of pages.

Safari is returning the message 'failed to connect to server' but sites opening fine in other browsers so ISP connection seems fine.
Safari will repeatedly fail to open a page when it is on the same server/site as other pages that load correctly and I can navigate to other pages after a failed page load.
I'm also able to return an hour or so later and open the pages that failed but no idea why I'm getting temporarily blocked out from some pages/links.
Problem has only occurred in the last few days but seems persistant.

    Hi...
Use OpenDNS for better speed, more security, it's free, and should fix the can't connect to server issue.
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
    Click +
Enter these numbers exactly as you see them here.
    208.67.222.222
    Click +
    208.67.220.220
Then click OK and restart your Mac.

  • Personal File Sharing fails on network of (2) cascading Linksys routers.

    Topography:

    Linksys WRT54G (WAN-port) attached to Linksys BEFSR41 (4-port).
    Linksys BEFSR41 starting @ is 192.168.1.1.
    Linksys WRT54G starting @ is 192.168.2.1.
All systems attached to either the ethernet ports of the BEFSR41,
the ethernet ports of the WRT54G, or Wi-Fi of the WRT54G connect
    to the Internet flawlessly.
    Problem:
Using Personal File Sharing (Connect to Server…) all Apple systems
(all MacOS X v10.4.7) only see other systems attached to the router
that they are attached to & vice versa, i.e. systems attached to BEFSR41
can not see systems attached to WRT54G & vice versa.
    Any ideas?

I think you could get around this by changing the subnet mask to 255.255.254.0, (maybe 255.255.0.0), but not sure if it would open Security problems for you.
With the subnet mask set to 255.255.255.0, you can only see other computers in the range where only the last number is different... if it was set to 0.0.0.0.0, then theoretically you could connect to any Computer in the world, havent tried it though!:-)
Other ways exist of one router handing out all the IPs, but that's for later.

  • Mountain Lion Server and SMB file sharing

We have in our company data center two Macs, a Power PC 8GB ram with Leopard 10.5.8 and a Mac Pro Quad Core Nehalem 32GB with Mountain Lion 10.8.3 and OSX Server 2.2.1.
The Power Pc SMB File Sharing, with the limit of 10 concurrent users, it works perfectly.
Instead, the Mac Pro SMB File Sharing drops randomly SMB sharing with the consequent loss of the changes made by Client to opened files.
Is there anyone else with the same problem?
Is there any solution, in addition to turn off the Mac Pro and switch to a Windows server?

Yes. It works good however a few tweeks necessary. In parallels configuration I had to change the 1 CPU setting to 2 and allowed a bit more memory. Before that things where a little slow in the virtual macine. Hopefully you are operating with a quad core.

If yes, then I believe you need to log a SR for this issue as none of us maintain this tool, and you need someone from Oracle (development team who maintain it internally) to verify why you are getting that error when uploading the files.

  • File sharing fails...until I restart

I've recently setup an old eMac G4 with Leopard Server in the hopes of running a few services it from it. For now, I'm currently using it for File Sharing / Time Machine access from my MacBook.
The strange thing is, File Sharing will work correctly for a while then when Time Machine on the MacBook starts, or if I need to access a file - I get an error saying my login details are incorrect. Time Machine will report 'Delayed...' as it cannot find the volume. In the Finder, clicking on the eMac and then 'Connect As...' brings up the login box but when I type my username and password in, it reports they are invalid.
At first I thought it was just me, but restarting the eMac seems to fix the problem...for a few hours. Then it happens again. I definitely know it's not me as the login details are stored in the keychain and it can access the eMac after it's restarted without bringing up the login box.
Does anyone know what could be causing this?

it's a known issue with leopard server
hopefully it will be fixed in 10.5.3
there are a number of work arounds, none of which have worked in my case
other than turning AFP of and on which disconnects all users

I'm having so many problems just sharing files with my PC.
