Server Admin won't let me view Share Points

I had a server crash while editing a user in Workgroup Manager that forced a restart. Since then Workgroup Manager works fine, but I cannot see the Share Points in Server Admin. I select File Sharing then Share Points, and just get a spinning indicator on the lower right. I can browse the volumes, but clicking on a user's folder does nothing. The Share/Unshare button never becomes active and I can't view the permissions. Other functions of the Server Admin seem to be OK, except the Web settings take forever to show up. This happens whether I run Server Admin locally or remotely.
I get this from the Console when I launch Server Admin but it makes no sense:
12/28/07 5:48:48 PM /Applications/Server/Server Admin.app/Contents/MacOS/Server Admin[632] ATS AutoActivation: MDQueryExecute failed! (params: queryString = {comapple_ats_namepostscript == "ArialMS" && kMDItemContentTypeTree != com.adobe.postscript-lwfn-font}, valueListAttrs = {<CFArray 0x10092ba0 [0x12321a0]>{type = immutable, count = 1, values = (

because I get the something similar when I launch FileMaker from the same machine:
12/28/07 5:48:42 PM /Applications/FileMaker Pro 9/FileMaker Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/FileMaker Pro[628] ATS AutoActivation: MDQueryExecute failed! Any ideas where to look?

Use the inspector in work group manager to delete /config/sharepoints.
You will need to be in the local directory in work group manager and you will have to reshare all shares but no data will be removed. You should probably reboot after deleting the directory. This would replace the old way of doing it in the past with netinfo manager since we don't have netinfo anymore.

i upgraded my Itunes to the latest version and now it won't let me view my library with the column browser. Can i get that back? I tried using the shortcut for it and nothing happens. When I try to do it from the view menu, it shows up as something I can't click on. The new library format is driving me crazy and I just want to get back to the old library view.

  • Server Admin won't display services after 10.4.7 update

Did combo updater from Server 10.4.4 to 10.4.7. Everything seems to be working – filesharing, Web, FTP. But Server Admin connects but then just sits there spinning. Won't show active services, etc.
Workgroup Manager will let me administer accounts but Sharing tab is greyed out.
    Did I overlook something?

You didn't mention what troubleshooting you tried.
Did a restart help? (would point to servermgrd problem)
Try removing the server from the list and re-add it.
If you are running ServerAdmin on the server itself, try adding the server as 127.0.0.1 (eliminates dns issues) if you are running from another machine then enter the IP of the server.

  • ICal quits unexpectedly and won't let me view 2011

iCal "quits unexpectedly" whenever I try to look at the year 2011. Whenever it reopens it reverts back to 2001 or 2004, and won't let me see anything. I use Lion (Just updated it whenever it came out), and have no software updates waiting for me. Originally it froze up, wouldn't let me delete one of my events, and then it quit. So I restarted my computer a few times, shut it down, and it's still doing the same thing. Except it's getting worse. At first it wouldn't let me see a certain week in December, then the month of December, and now all of 2011. It would be seriously helpful if I could access my class schedule and my assignment duedates before I have to actually go to class...

    DaniM.,
You may want to try refreshing the iCal plist file.
The com.apple.iCal.plist file is in your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To get to the Library folder use Finder>Go>Depress the "Option" Key and select LIbrary. Quit iCal, drag the .plist file to your Desktop.
Also go to System Preferences...>Language & Text>Formats>Region: and set/re-set the apppropriate "Region:" Then log out/in or restart.

  • Server Admin won't connect

Trying to connect to a X.5 server in server admin, but nothing happens. System.log shows:
Jan 26 10:43:30 server servermgrd92: servermgrd: readFile File /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.smb.server.plist is not a valid plist
    Jan 26 10:43:30 server servermgrd92: pipe(stdin) error: 24
I've tried removing that plist as well as replacing it with the same plist from an identical server, but the same error shows.
I changed com.apple.ServerAdmin.Windows to /false in the servermgr_info.plist also with no luck.
    Thanks for the assistance,

kill the svrmgrd and log out. try to log in under a new account and connect. If it does go back to the account with the issue and try. If it does not then there is an a preference file causing the issue, which I have been unable to find. I basically labeled my preference folder to old-preferences and had one recreated. Since then I have been fine. You will notice that the SMB service is disabled and needs to be re-setup.

  • Server Admin won't connect, ssh will...

    Hi,
I am no longer able to connect to my server using Server Admin. It gets stuck on 'loading' for ages and then says the server doesn't exist. I can connect fine with ssh, and there's nothing in system.log or servermgrd.log. I've tried deleting the Server Admin prefs as mentioned in the archives but to no avail.
    Any help appreciated.

James: obvious stuff, I know, but is there a packet filter between your admin machine and the server? Have you tried restarting servermgrd (sudo killall -HUP servermgrd would do it) or re-booting the entire server?

  • Storage setting won't let me view or move music

I'm using iPod as a storage device it lets me view photos but not music (despite them all being burnt from CD).
Is there any way to get my music onto a blank iTunes? My laptop was stolen and I don't have all my old CD's so I need to upload my music to my new laptop.

The general method of use is to download the script to a folder of your choice, e.g. your Desktop, Downloads folder or create a folder at ...\iTunes\Scripts. Select a playlist or highlight some tracks in iTunes and then double-click on the script to execute it. If no specific tracks are selected the script will try to work with all tracks in the current playlist. Some scripts offer a choice of track by track confirmation of changes or fully automatic processing of the selection.
For this particular script use the Shift-File-Display Exact Duplicates feature first, next use CTRL-A to select the resulting list, then run the script. Thereafter folow the on screen prompts.

  • All logins slow/failed, even local server admin won't work...

I've had an issue last Friday which reoccurred this morning concerning logins. Any logins on the network don't work, but take forever to come up with an error message. So I went to the server locally and tried the admin account there, but it hung as well (pinwheel for a few minutes, then spinning gear indefinitely). On Friday, a hard reboot seemed to fix the issue. Today, after hard rebooting, I could log in locally, but upon opening Server Admin, my server's info never came up (showed connected, but no info came up (in the software/hardware/etc area on the first page) and no services were listed. No network accounts could log in at this time (would take a minute and then the generic "Cannot log into this account due to an error").
Did another restart (via the apple menu this time) and everything is working fine for now. I couldn't find anything in any logs to indicate a problem (although it seems several logs restarted with the server restart).
Most clients are 10.6.2, a few are 10.5.8 and one is 10.4.11.

Happened again this morning. Hard restart seemed to fix it, but the RAID with the home folders on it took (3-drive RAID in the XServe, OS is on a separate solid state drive) about 5 minutes to mount.
Most logs seemed to have reset on the restart. There was no server system log at all or a DCHP system.log.
OD LDAP log's first line was "nse error = 2". Everything after that was after the restart.
OD Password Service Error log was full of "Unknown listener exception error." All entries were since the restart.
Couldn't find any other anomalies in any logs (although, like I said, most of them don't seem to exist anymore.
Now, I don't know if it's related, but the green light on the center RAID drive is off, but it seems to check out fine in System Profiler and Disk Utility. The blue access light works. I just figured it's a bad LED, but seems possibly related if the RAID's losing connection somehow (which could explain logins not working and its slow mounting behavior).
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as this is really bringing us to a standstill.

  • Upgraded to 10.5 server from 10.4 but Server Admin won't upgrade Apache 2

I am attempting to upgrade an Intel XServe from Mac OS X Server 10.4 to 10.5. Everything goes perfect with all services and setting restored. However, when I attempt to use the Apache upgrade option in Server Admin to switch to Apache 2, it fails with the error:
"The server reported the error: 'CANNOTTRANSLATEERR' while processing a command of type: 'setApacheMode'"
The server itself is a modest set-up. It is essentially a private web server running only ftp, http, mail, a firewall, and about 20 users. I am also hosting two of the domains on https with certs.
I figured this has something to do with translating the Apache 1.3 config files. I am working on development machine with a clone of the server so I have been trying everything I can think of or find on the net to cure this but have had no luck. I have searched several Mac-centric forums and have found nothing.
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Yes, I did try 127.0.0.1 as well as the OS given domain ddeweb.local and even localhost. But no luck. In addition, I also tried various things with the config files in /etc/apache2 up to and including complete replacement of the entire /etc/apache2 directory with one from a clean 10.5 server install. That didn't even work.
The other thing I tried in an attempt to rule out the virtual host files was to disable all but the default host config which was refreshed with the default config. Still didn't work.
As for the output from in the terminal app:
Oddly enough the serveradmin command produced nothing. It just came back with the prompt.

  • Server Admin won't connect (not even locally)

One of my customers' machine crashed and had to be rebooted (So they say). I was not on site at the time and someone else with a "bit of knowledge" fiddled with the machine and tried to resurrect it (instead of leaving it for me to sort it out). Ever since there is no access to the server via the Server Admin (no server found) although the server is running fine and people are working from it. The Workgroup Manager is operational, though no sharing access is possible, only user privileges can be modified. The syslog reports the following message:
----"Feb 21 06:54:13 XServe servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no hostname set and unable to detect via DNS, services may not function properly - use changeip to repair
Feb 21 07:24:13 XServe servermgrd: servermgr_dns: no name available via DNS for 192.168.0.2"----
Very strange. I can ping it, the IP is fixed anyway and I have access to the machine via ARD 3 no probs, but both server manager and server monitor fail to connect, even locally. Something somehow went wrong and I haven't got a clue. Rebooted the machine, done the usual things to no avail.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Machine is on 10.4.8 and its a dual G5 with one Gig RAM. I noticed that the activity monitor reports more than half the system memory as 'inactive', leaving precious little free mem. The systm disk is 80 Gigs with 30 Gigs free.

    Hi
I had a similar situation on a server I was called in to have a look at after it was upgraded via software update from 10.4.2 to 10.4.8, the Open directory db went corrupt and the server administration tools would not work after that.
In the end I had to ditch the open directory and rebuild the server from scratch as the other IT guy did not have a decent backup.
Have you repaired permissions or tried Disk Warrior on the boot drive?
The DNS thing is something that Apple has inrtroduced in 10.4.8, many people are having the same error show in system.log, see the Network Services section under Mac OS X Server.

  • OS X Mavericks won't let me view a slide show on PPT

I upgraded my Mac to the OS X Mavericks few days ago. But, now I'm having issues with my PowerPoint slide show. When I click to view a slide show, my screen completely turns black. Also, I found my laptop to be slow and freezing at sometimes. I read that I have to update my Microsoft Office to the 14.1.0 , and for some reason it does not allow me upgrading it. When I click to instal the upgrade it stops in the middle of the process saying that I'm missing something. Please help I'm very new to Mac!

    Hi
A Restart is the only option you have left really. Pressing the power on button on the front panel does a graceful (non destructive) restart/shutdown of the mac. Whatever you do don’t yank out the power cable, you could potentially shock the drives and damage/lose your data.
Why 10.4.1? I would update as soon as you can to at least 10.4.8. 10.4 Server had some major problems until the 10.4.4 update stabilized things.
    Hope this helps, Tony

  • IOS 7.1.2 sometimes won't let me view emails

Ever since the recent ios upgrade, I've occasionally found that selecting a different email in the list doesn't display a preview of that email. The preview stays on the previously selected email.
When this happens, I'm also unable to scroll the folder list. My folder list is longer than one page.
The fix I've been using is to double click Home and close Mail, then reopen it.
    Anyone else?
My email is on an Exchange server, in case that's part of the problem.

    Reset the device:
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
If that doesn't help, tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
