Server Administration Software installation failure

When I try to install the Server Administration Software on my MacBook, I get the following error message when I select the "Macintosh HD" as the installation target.
+"You cannot install Server Administration Software on this volume. You are not allowed to install the software on this disk for an unknown reason."+
Since I have a couple of Xserves and Xraids to manage, this is of interest to me.
* ServerAdminTools10.4.11.dmg
* Mac OS X 10.5.2
* Macintosh HD - 193.34GB available
I attempted the installation with two different accounts that are flagged as Admin on this laptop. Clues on how to proceed would be very much appreciated.

Hi
This could be a problem with the installer disk? In the meantime you can copy from your existing servers (presumably with the same versions of the Server Administration Software) the Server folder in /Applications.
They should work.
Hope this helps, Tony

  • Cannot install 10.4 server administration software on 10.5

    When I try to install server admin software on my new MacBook running 10.5.2, I get the following message: "You cannot install Server Administration Software on this volume. You are not allowed to install the software on this disk for an unknown reason." I have partioned my drive into a boot camp volume with Windows XP installed and a third volume for "extras" that won't be backed up when this computer is used as a mobile machine for an account on 10.4.x Server home directory. In the installer, all three volumes show up with a red exclamation mark over them. Thanks for any advice.

    You are supposed to be able to use the 10.5 Admin tools with Tiger Server. Tiger Server must be at 10.4.11
    You can download the 10.5 tools from here:

    Here is the Admin Tools compatibility article from Apple:

    Well after creating the sys database with the wizzard (with a swaplanguage to DUTCH) i ran:
    rel849n.sql
    copied from file project: PPTLS84CUR
    opend config mgr and changed display in DUTCH (+ install workstationclient)
    copied from file project: PPTLS84CURML Dutch only
    copied from file project: PPTLS84CURDEL
    run datamover PTPATCH.dms (since we also unzipped/installed patch 8.49.18)
    copied from fileproject: PTPATCH848 (english and common)(since we also unzipped/installed patch 8.49.18)
    copied from file project: PTPATCH848ML (dutch)(since we also unzipped/installed patch 8.49.18)
    run datamover msgtlsupg.dms (bootstrap mode)(since we also unzipped/installed patch 8.49.18)
    run datamover msgtlsdutupg.dms (bootstrap mode)(since we also unzipped/installed patch 8.49.18)
    Build PPLTLS84CUR (with specified settings)
    Run pt849tls.dms
    Run PSLANGUAGES.DMS
    Run tlsupgnoncomp.dms
    update PSLANGUAGES SET INSTALLED = 1 WHERE LANGUAGE_CD = 'DUT'
    run PT849TLSDUT (no bootstrap but as OPRID PS)
    then I run into cannot insert duplicate key errors
    I added to PT849TLSDUT the following delete statements
    XX start addingXXX
    DELETE FROM PSFILEDEFN WHERE FILEID IN (SELECT XLIFF_FILEID FROM PSXPTMPLTRINFO WHERE TMPLLANGCD = 'DUT' AND TMPLDEFN_ID='STDHEADER');
    DELETE FROM PSFILEDATA WHERE FILEID IN (SELECT XLIFF_FILEID FROM PSXPTMPLTRINFO WHERE TMPLLANGCD = 'DUT' AND TMPLDEFN_ID='STDHEADER');
    DELETE FROM PSXPTMPLTRINFO WHERE TMPLLANGCD = 'DUT' AND TMPLDEFN_ID='STDHEADER';
    DELETE PSFILEDATA WHERE FILEID IN (SELECT FILEID FROM PSFILEDEFN WHERE UPPER(USERFILENAME) LIKE 'HEADER_STD_LOWER_DUT.XLF%');
    DELETE FROM PSFILEDEFN WHERE UPPER(USERFILENAME) LIKE 'HEADER_STD_LOWER_DUT.XLF%';
    XXX end addingXXX
    run PT849TLSDUT again and it ran without errors,
    I continued...
    but both msgtleng.dms and ptstreng.dms run into several cannot insert duplicate key errors.
    This is where I got stuck.
    Is it because of the swap language?
    Or did I miss something else.
    Hope you respond as soon as this afternoon.
    Cheers Detlev

    Thanks Shanky, that fixed my issue.  I reinstalled, specifying NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSYSTEM for the SQL Server Database Engine account.  After the successful installation, I used Sql Server Configuration Manager to change the account to LocalService
    (NT AUTHORITY\LocalService).  The Database Engine is restarting OK.
    So, my accounts are:
    SQL Server (MSSQLSERVER):  NT AUTHORITY\LocalService
    SQL Full-text Fiter Daemon Launcher (MSSQLSERVER):  NT Service\MSSQLFDLauncher
    SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER):  NT Service\ReportServer
    SQL Server Browser:  NT AUTHORITY\LOCALSERVICE
    SQL Server Agent (MSSQLSERVER):  NT AUTHORITY\NETWORKSERVICE
    I check out the link http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143504.aspx#Serv_Perm.  I'm a bit confused how the NT Service\* accounts are created, such as NT Service\MSSQLSERVER.  However, I did see this http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191153.aspx#manual;
    perhaps I need to read it further.
    Regardless, this is my desktop machine, the installation is for development only, it's inside our network, and no external users will be accessing this SQL Server instance.  So, while I haven't fully read the details on running under LocalService, I
    believe this will meet my needs.
    Thanks again for your help.

    I installed ServerAdministrationSoftware for 10.6.8 on my mac- NOW I can't use Disk Utility - get Dyld Error Message:   Library not loaded: /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/PlatformHardwareManagement.framework/Versions /A/PlatformHardwareManagement? FireFox can't open lots of files it isn't suposed to. DMG is opened by the Mac osx as a virtual volume file you just drag the FireFox icon to where you want it installed. Check your desktop for a FireFox volume... like a drive. Double click the DMG file if it is not there. This is how Mac works it has nothing to do with FireFox, many apps install this way!

  • SQL Server Express 2014 Installation Completes with Failures and Repair Does Nothing to Help

    I am attempting to install SQL Server Express 2014 on a development machine and as usual old versions of SQL and the remnants of them are a plague to the installation.
    I have used to Revo Uninstaller to scrub the old installations and with my first attempt after some additional work on the registry I was able to get an instance to install and remarkably I was able to connect to the instance. However, I removed an application
    reference to SQL Server 2008 after the SQL Express 2014 installation (through Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features) and it stopped working immediately.
    So I removed (uninstalled using Revo Uninstaller) every reference to any SQL Server application as well as removed all of the registry references (using Revo) and I can now install SQL Server Express 2014 with
    "Feature" failures [Reporting Services, Database Engine Services, Full-Text and Semantic Extractions for Search and SQL
    Server Replication]  and of course it doesn't work.
    Now when I attempt "Repair" the installation the process ends normally (no errors) and reports  "Success" however SQL still has no instance and the services are not running nor are they visible when I open the "SQL Server Configuration

    Hello,
    To my knowledge, Revo is not a supported way to uninstall SQL Server.
    Please try to uninstall all you can using Control Panel -> Programs and Features, then perform a manual uninstall to
    remove remnants. Try the following procedure:
    1. Uninstall all SQL Server 2012 components you can using Control Panel -> Programs and Features
    2. Backup the registry.
    3. Delete the following keys in regedit:
    --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server
    --HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\MSSQLServer
    4. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall and delete all the sub-keys referencing
    SQL Server.
    5. Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services and delete all the keys referencing SQL Server.
    6. Rename all the SQL Server folders in the computer like C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server and subfolders.
    After performing above procedure, try to reinstall SQL Server again.
    Hope this helps.

  • Delgate or give administrative athority to a user for simple client software installation

    I have a new Server 2012 R2 machine. It contains a single domain with an Active Directory Domain Services configured. Currently there are 10 users been served by this server: roaming profiles, sharing of a printer, and sharing of some files. The setup is
    very simple as you can see.
    The client machines connected to the server all run a simple mapping software. From time to time, the software vendor that supplies the mapping software puts out patches and updates. From time to time, a user will want to install a peice of his or her
    own software (examples: Google Earth; Yahoo Messanger).
    The users are all responsible adults. I don't need to worry about them messing up their machines with malware. But I'm not available to the users all the time. Rignt now, I have to logon to the client machine each time to run the .exe file as myself (the
    Administrator) to perform a software installation.
    I don't want to give out my Administrator password. Is it possible to create a user (or allow an existing user) of the domain to have the right to install a peice of software on their own but without allowing this user to make other changes to the domain
    or the server?
    I appricate you taking the time to read my question. Please let me know if there's anything unclear in my inquiry.

    Additionally, it is not at all uncommon to grant users local administrative privileges on their own machines.  This does not involve granting them administrative permissions on the domain - just on their machine.  As Domain Administrator, you would
    still have local administrative access to each machine (Domain Admins are automatically added to the local administrators group).
    I would suggest that you create a separate account for them on their machines that would be joined to the local administrator's group and that they only use that account when they need to install a patch or some allowed software.  All other work should
    be done under their regular, non-privileged account.

  • Mobile Web Server installation failure

    Hi Forum,
    I have used the server on my phone previously. It worked well.
    Now after a updating my phone, I cannot even install the application. It runs through the installtion and then starts a "installing web server" half way through which it fails!
    Despite installation failure it features in my App Manager but not in 'My Own' folder. I uninstall it and reinstall to no avail.
    I am a Nokia N93 user.
    Would greatly appreciate assistance as I want to demo the software for my class.
    Best,
    wirefree

    I had exactly the same problem ("Installation failed" at install time) but finally got it running.
    My steps:
    0. I removed the unfinished installation of the MWS.
    1. I manually installed the Open-C libs (only glib.sis, pips_nokia_1_3_SS.sis and ssl.sis) from the SDK here: http://www.forum.nokia.com/main/resources/technologies/openc_cpp/
    2. Then I manually installed python (PythonScriptShell_1_4_4_3rdEd.sis) from here: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=154155&package_id=171153&release_id=609802
    3. Finally I reinstalled the mobile web server (v1.4 beta) . No error message anymore. Everything works like a charm now. Hope this helps. :-)
    Kind regards,

    HI,
    If your old version of iTunes is still working - then I sugest you stick with that.
    iTunes 11 is a lousy update - It will not retain your playlists, you can't find and delete duplicates... and a whole arry of oyher issues. (have a look around this forum to see how many issues IT11 gives people)
    Just a friendly advise and warning :-)

  • CS6 Installation Failure - Adobe Genuine Software Verification Error

    I am trying to install CS6 as a trial version on my Windows8 laptop but keep being told that my software is counterfeit (" Installation Failure - Adobe Genuine Software Verification Error").
    I have uninstalled and re-downloaded it with no success, and the only forum post i can see on this suggests checking the date/time on the PC are correct (which they are).
    Any further ideas?
    Many thanks

    Thanks very much for replying Mylenium - i found this before but it only contains a link to photoshopCC rather than CS6 unless I have missed it??.    I have bought a licence for the student/teacher edition of CS6 (which I am still waiting for) so presume that downloading photoshop CC wont work.
    I have also tried the 'troubleshoot' link provided but couldnt find anything specific to this error.
    Has anyone successfully resolved this problem for CS6?
    Cheers

  • How can I resolve a "genuine software verification failure" during installation from DVD?

    I have a set of 3 DVDs from my organization that has volume-licensed Adobe CS6 Production Premium.
    I need to install it on a laptop that has no DVD drive.
    I can mount the ISO image of the first DVD disk as a network drive, and can then proceed through installation. When I am asked to "insert the second disk", I mount the second ISO image, and installation proceeds. In the process, I enter the serial number / key provided by our IT department and sign in with my Adobe ID.
    When installation finishes, however, I am informed there was an Adobe genuine software verification failure. The customer support link leads to this forum.
    How can I resolve this, please?
    I have searched the forums for related issues and can only find reports of similar problems for downloaded software. The advice there is to re-download the software. Should I expect my volume-license key to work for the downloaded software?

  • Two DB2 software installation on the same server

    Hello,
    Do you know if it is possible to have two separate DB2 software installations on the same server (OS is AIX)?
    Thanks,
    Florin

    Hello Florin,
    On V8 there is the possibility to use different FixPak levels when using the Alternate FixPaks provided by IBM.
    SAP allowes you to use the Alternate FixPaks in your test environment, but NOT in production.
    Here is the remark from OSS note 101809:
    Remarks on "alternate FixPaks"
        o  DB2 Enterprise Server Edition (ESE) Version 8.1 for UNIX-based operating systems now supports the coexistence of multiple FixPak levels on the same system through the use of "alternate" FixPaks.
        o  On details on this feature please refer to official IBM Web sites.
        o  "Alternate FixPaks" are not supported by SAP. Their use should be restricted to testing purposes.
    This is the link to IBM's website:
    http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=71&context=SSEPGG&dc=D600&uid=swg21112119&loc=en_US&cs=UTF-8&lang=enclass=
    Please keep in mind that if SAP requires a special build for a certain FixPak there would be no Alternate FixPak which contains the same fixes and therefore you cannot use it at all. OSS note 101809 contains the necessary FixPak information.
    Regards,
      Joachim
