Server app, airport extreme

I have a MacMini, running 10.9.x, and Server App 3.02. I have a airport Extreme, and it isn't showing in the server app like it is supposed to.
The airport is providing the wireless network for my whole network.
any ideas why or how I can add it into the new mavericks server app.
There are some very nice features when you control the airport via the server app.
Thanks

You might want to try restarting the AirPort Extreme and then restarting the Server.app. We had a similar arrangement and found that the Airport disappeared from Server app periodically (but as far as we can tell continues to operate normally). Rebooting the airport and restarting the app seemed to reliably get it back.
It might depend also on what version of AirPort Extreme you have.  Ours is an 'N' type pizza box shape wireless one, so I guess a few years old but not ancient.
We had the arrangement to provide firewall services mainly but recently we moved all the firewall duties to a more conventional router and dropped using the airport in that way.  This has worked out ok, but is a bit more complicated to administer.

How do I get rid of the error message "There was an error connecting to the server “Office AirPort Extreme” ?  This message shows up 3 times when I boot my iMac.

I do have a USB hard drive hooked up to the Airport.  I've never created an AppleScript for it.  Should I disconnect the USB drive and see if I still get the error message?

  • Static IP-ed server with Airport Extreme 802.11ac

Howdy, y'all, In support of an app for remote users, we wanna expose a Win server using a static IP from our cable provider. The ISP has provided us with the static IPs, DNS IPs and a gateway IP. At the moment, the Win server is on a subnet routed by our new Airport Extreme 802.11ac receiving a reserved IP. If I configure the Win server with the static IP settings from the ISP, there's no Internet connectivity because the gateway IP is a different subnet. When I connect the Win server directly to the cable modem and bypass the Airport Extreme, the Win server has Internet connectivity. I suspect that I'll hafta use a separate switch between the cable modem and the Airport Extreme for the Win server. I think that we'll then have departmental Wi-Fi routed by the Airport Extreme. Any other suggestions? Thanks much.

Do you only have a single IP??
If so you cannot give that IP to the win server.. then you have no other network connection.. or internet from other clients.
But you can simply put the Win server with a static LAN ip set via dhcp reservations and then set the win server as the default host.. all packet incoming to the public IP are then passed to the Win Server.
DHCP reservation on the network tab of the airport utility.
Default host is under Network options.
You will still use the AE as main router and set wan to either dhcp which should work fine or the static IP.

  • How do i use my own dhcp server with airport extreme

I just bought an airport extreme and I'm trying to replace my linksys router and another access point.
I have my own dhcp/dns server and I want to continue using it. So far, I was not able to find the way to use NAT without DHCP (like I'm doing now with my current setup).
I want to give the device another chance before I return it to the store. Is there anything I can do?
    Thanks

I thought that you could figure out the answer for yourself, but if you need more confirmation.....the choices/options that you need do not exist on an AirPort router.
Cisco or Netgear might be brands to look at.  Good luck in your quest.

  • Can't connect to a VPN server via Airport Extreme Base Station

My husband is unable to connect to his employer's VPN server through our Airport Extreme when he uses his work PC at home. Strangely, when we had a Dell True Mobile wireless router this was not an issue. He could reach his VPN server via PC, AND our Mac wireless network also worked thru the Dell True Mobile. Is there any way to configure the AEBS to allow VPN connectivity? Do we need to switch to a different brand of wireless router? Please advise.

    First welcome to the discussions.
To set up the client you'll first have to ask the Network Administrator for the name of the VPN server. The username and other details you will need to log on.
You will also need to find out if the VPN uses PPTP or L2TP over IP Sec. with that information in hand open Internet connect in the Applications folder choose NEW VPN Connection then you click on either PPTP or L2TP whichever the network uses, then click continue in the confiquration pop up menu, Choose Edit confiqurations Then enter the information the Network administrator gave you.
Bear in mind that the OSX client does not work with all VPN's.
You may have to purchase a universal VPN client such as VPN Tracker from Equinux ($90.00).

  • Setup Guest Network with OS X Server and Airport Extreme - NEED HELP!

    Hi All,
So I have a small business with a Mac Mini Server (10.6.5) and an Airport Extreme. The Airport is handling the routing and DHCP duties, while the Server is handling the DNS. The Airport is pointed to pull DNS from the Server. All internal systems work great accessing the internet and folders on the Server.
I need to setup a Guest network for internet access, so I turned this function on in the Airport Extreme. It sets up fine, but if you connect to that new Guest Network the system hangs trying to open a web page. My thinking is since the Server is the one handling the DNS it is not working for Guest computers since they are not part of our internal network. At least that is my theory, I could be wrong.
With this type of setup what do I need to modify to get this working? Anyone have any ideas?

After trying for days to figure this out I was finally able to get a working solution and I now have my APE providing a guest and main network while using my lion server as the Dsn server for the main network.
The setup is a bit of a hack and does require you to have at least two devices with staticly assigned ip information on the main network but it does allow you to serve dhcp for both networks from the server and make some services available to the guest network such as iTunes remote for parties.
    1) delete your custom Dns entries from the Internet settings in the APE and set two dhcp reservations for .2 and .3 (in this case my Mac mini server and my airport express)
    2) reduce the dhcp range to only have 2 available IPs (10.0.1.2-10.0.1.3) and save settings
    3) on a computer connected to the main network install wireshark and begin sniffing for packets. Connect at least one device to your guest network and look for any packets that have an ip from your guest network (usually 172.16.42.x) once you capture one of these packets expand the vlan information. This should list a vlan ID ( in my case this was 1003. I would suspect this is universal but do not know)
    4) on your server open network preferences, click the gear at the bottom and click "manage virtual interfaces", add a vlan that matches the vlan ID from above. Click ok and apply your settings. The vlan interface should get an ip in the guest network range from your APE.
    * if you are running lion you will need to install server admin tools before proceeding*
    5) open server admin and add the dhcp service. Create an entry for your primary network (ex: 10.0.1.x) make the dhcp range one higher than the settings in step 2 ( ie: 10.0.1.4 to 10.0.1.253) assign this to the physical interface. Make sure this entry has your internal DNA servers
    6) add another entry for the guest networks ip range (ex: 172.16.42.x) again set it one ip higher than step 2 ( 172.16.42.4 to 172.16.42.253) save and activate both ranges. Assign this range to the vlan interface. Make sure this entry either contains your isps dns servers or another public dns server. Turn on dhcp.
Because you have now assigned the only two addresses in the APEs pool for your primary network to static entries there will not be any addresses to assign and the APE will not respond to requests. This will allow your server to pick up the work of assigning IPs. As for your guest network, the APE will assign IPs for two host and then stop. Your clients may either get an IP from the APE or the osx server so both should have the same info. Just make sure the two static clients on your main network have the local DNA servers entered manually.

  • OS X Server and AirPort Extreme?

I'm wondering how people make use of the Airport Extreme SNMP and syslog features? Ideally I would like to have the logs from the Airport Extreme hit my OS X Server so they can be archived and searched there. Are both SNMP and syslog needed for this, or just one or the other?
Also, are there any good OS X SNMP applications or syslog viewers that do stuff like generate charts to help make sense of all the information?
Finally, I just noticed something strange (maybe?) - even when I set the Airport Extreme syslog to level 7 (debug) I don't see any Internet traffic? I tried pinging the Airport Extreme (with success) and hit my web server behind it, but I don't see any of that activity in the Airport Extreme Airport Utility?

Hey Dreadnought, at one point, I updated the syslog launchd file to add the necessary flag for syslogd to listen for network logging requests. I then setup my original AEBS to log to the OS X Server, and it worked fine. However, at one point, I noticed that both /var/log/mail.log and /var/log/mailaccess.log were no longer logging and once I removed the network enabling flag from syslogd and restarted it, they started working again.
This report is far from scientific, but I just figured I'd let you know so that once you do enable syslogd network logging, make sure your other logs are still functioning.

  • Setting Radius server for Airport Extreme

    Hi all,
I have AP Airport Extreme. I updated it to the latest version of firmware and Airport utility.
I am trying to set the AP to connect to Microsoft Radius server (Windows server 2003). The problem is that in the security, I don't have WPA/WPA2 Enterprise. I only have WPA/WPA2 personal. I do have option to configure the radius properties (IP, Port, etc'...).
What should I do in order to set my AP to connect to Microsoft Windows server 2003?
    Thanks for your help.

About the only one I'm aware of is the D-Link DPR-1260, which supports up to 4 printers. I have the predecessor to this print server, but it was horribly unreliable, requiring a reboot at least once a day, so YMMV. I settled on a Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP wireless-to-Ethernet bridge (with built-in 4-port Ethernet switch) and use my Belkin F1UP0001 in Ethernet mode. This combination gives me the option of adding network-enabled printers at a later date.

  • My VPN blocks connection to smtp server. Airport extreme router mac 10.7.4

All outgoing mail services work on the internet with VPN turned On, but not from the router?

I am assuming that your AirPort Extreme is the only router in your current network configuration. If so, all AirPort routers are VPN pass-through devices that support VPNs based on IPSec, PPTP, or L2TP protocols ... which would mean that the base station should not be interfering with the creation/maintenance of VPN tunnels.

  • Pre-configured DNS server in Airport Extreme - normal?

I am experiencing issues connecting to the internet.
My APX is running the latest firmware, and is connected via ethernet to a network in the facility I am working in.
It seems to be a resolving issue, since after typing in a url, it takes ages only do display the "You are not connected to the Internet" error.
The Network Diagnostics utility displays the following info:
    http://tinyurl.com/6lew3l
This is how the Airport DNS Menu looks like. I suspect that the grey default DNS servers are somehow supplied by the router i am connected to, but are faulty.
    Is that possible?
    http://tinyurl.com/5n7ctl

change the IP range on the extreme to 192.x.x.x
You are having problems because you campus lan is 10.x.x.x and so is the extreme's LAN. a router needs to be in two different networks to work correctly.
If the campus lan is secure, you could also use the extreme in bridge mode. which will provide the extreme clients DNS and gateway info from the up stream DHCP server.

  • Configuring Mac Mini Server via Airport Extreme via Netopia Modem

Can any anyone help me with the settings to allow internet access to my Mac Mini Server by a Web browser. What way to you configure the modem and extreme.  The modem seems to want to duplicate a lot of the features of the extreme in it a has its own port forwarding  etc. I have manually set all devices with fixed ip addressas it shares the net work with a Windows SBS. I have a static IP Address and Domain name registered and hosted dns has the domain tranfered. Nat is enabled and ftp, itunes ports open.
Internet is working on the local network which has a 3 Capsules, IMac, and 2 apple TV's all working and streaming from the server. Running Lion from last week.
Would appreciate any help as this is is my first time to use the forum.
    Thanks again.

  • Mac Mini Snow Leopard Server vs Airport Extreme

My Macbook is starting to reach it's memory maximum and running slow (120Gb). Most of the memory space is taken up by videos, photos, movies, and music. I have contemplated purchasing an Airport Extremem and connecting multiple hard drives using a powered USB hub. But I am wondering about the speed of this set-up when opening iPhoto, iDVD, and iTunes. Would my system be faster with the Mac Mini with Snow Leopoard Server?

Unless you have a reason to want your files on the network instead of on your machine, I'd highly recommend replacing the drive in your MacBook, and at the same time getting a bit larger external drive to use for backups. If you think you're going to have a lot of data, there are now 500 GB or even 750 GB drives you can install. Then for the external, you can get a 1 TB (1000GB) drive for pretty cheap and back everything up.
If you just get an Airport and hook up hard drives to it, you're going to have slower access to your data. You also won't be able to get to your data when you have your MacBook out of the house.

  • Airport extreme guest network can't access internet

I upgraded to the 7.6.1 a few weeks ago and recently noticed some oddities,  My guest network clients get an IP in the 10.x.x.x network but can't access the internet, the private network is just fine.  I looked on the airport utility for any advanced wireless options to indicate setting for the guest but I didn't see anything.
Is this the desired method of operation?  My private network is using the 192.168 network, do I have to set my GUEST network to the same range in order to get out with it?
I use a lion server on the network that is also giving out IP via the Lion DHCP Service, is there some other change I need to make to the Airport Extreme to have it forward the Guest network dhcp requests to the Lion Server?
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Mike.

Turns out when I set my DNS server IP for my APE DHCP to my Internal IP on my Lion server, the Airport Extreme is not allowing those guests to talk to my DNS Server so I updated the DNS to be my external/Public IP and now the guest network can do DNS and access all the cool stuff on the internet.

  • Enable iTunes Sharing using Airport Extreme

Hi, I'd like to share the iTunes Library when I am travelling. I have an Apple Mini Server and Airport Extreme. When I try to enable the port mapping of  TCP3689 and UDP5353, the UDP5353 is rejected and it conflict with a port in use. Please let me know how to resolve it.
    Thanks

    Morning taboeric,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
UDP port 5353 is used for automatically finding computers with iTunes on your network using Bonjour.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:
