Server.app shows as uninstalled in App Store

Hi there,
I just upgraded a Mac Mini from Snow Leopard Server to Lion Server via the App Store, and as expected, it installed OS X Lion Server (aka Server.app) along with it. However, during the installation some migration failed and I then rebooted into the OS, which seems to work as expected (only use it as time machine, file and DNS server so I guess the lack of migration didn't impact me).
However, now when I launch the App Store on the brand new Lion Server and go to "Purchased" I get OS X Lion as installed but OS X Lion Server as not installed, even though the app is there in Applications and working fine as far as I can see. When I try to install it from the "Purchased" tab, I get an error: "Server is already installed on this computer. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to check for available updates". A Software Update gives me no Server.app updates and the "Updates" tab in the App Store is empty.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Carles

Hi there,
Thanks for your reply.

I believe this is standard behavior for an installed Lion Server.  If you want to reinstall, I'm afraid you'll have to use the recovery partition, which doesn't like Lion Server and demands that you erase the disk prior to reinstalling.
Please note that it is the "OS X Lion Server" item in the App Store that shows as uninstalled, not "OS X Lion" itself, which correctly displays as installed. I don't really want to reinstall although I do know I have the option wiht Cmd+R when booting, all I want is for Server.app to show as installed on my App Store given that it _is_ installed and working perfectly.
I find it strange for this to be standard behavior as you mention, since Server.app is just another App Store item. I have the suspicion that the failed Server components migration just after install marked Server.app as "half installed" or something similar.
Cheers.

  • App Store Uninstalled Apps Showing as Installed After Clean OSX Install

Anyone know how to fix this?
Did a clean Mountain Lion install on Mac Pro. Two apps show as installed (Twitter and Wunderlist) after the install, and they are most defintiely not installed, though I would like them to be ...

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.
The Mac App Store (MAS) can see its apps installed on mounted partitions and ext/int HDDs. Is there a backup of your previous installation mounted on your Mac with these two apps? If so, that is why the MAS sees them as installed.
    Two ways to get the apps on your reinstall of Mt Lion;
    1. Locate the apps on the mounted drive and drag & drop the apps to the Apps folder on your Mt Lion boot drive
    2. Dismount the mounted drive with the apps, so the MAS doesn't see them and download them again from your list on the Purchased pane

  • App Store keeps showing update for program that has been uninstalled

The App Store keeps showing an update available for Virus Barrier Express even after I have removed it completely from my system.  Going into the Purchased list shows it is not installed.  When the application was installed it always said there was an update.  No matter how many times you clicked Update and allowed it to download and install the update, the App Store still showed the update needed to be installed.
On another machine it constantly shows an update for one of the installed applications but clicking the update button doesn't clear the update once it's been downloaded and installed.
Deleting the App Store preference hasn't resolved the issue.  Enabling the debug menu and using the Reset Applications option has not either.

I found out what was causing my problem (can't re-install an app that I deleted and which was purchased from the App Store). The app I was trying to re-install under Lion was Apple's Compressor v4 which is only available through the Mac App Store. However, even though I was booting from my one-and-only copy of Lion the Mac App Store was apparently getting confused by an old copy of Compressor v3.5 that was installed on another boot disk that I maintain for Snow Leopard. I'm running on a quad-disk Mac Pro so all four disks mount whenever I start the system. In any case, all I had to do was unmount the other disks and the Mac App Store then allowed me to install Compressor v4 on my Lion system.
The reason I was able to pinpoint this solution is that I wanted to run another Mac App Store app (Find Any File) and even though the Store said it was "Installed" I couldn't find the application in either the Lion Application folder or within LaunchPad. I then realized that the App Store was referencing the copy of that app that was stored on my Snow Leopard disk and unmounting that disk finally allowed me to install both Compressor v4 and Find Any File on my actual/current boot disk (i.e. Lion).
Now, the odd thing about this problem is that Compressor v4 wasn't installed on any of my disks, it was the older version of Compressor (v3.5.3) that apparently was preventing me from installing the new version 4 on my Lion system. In fact, Compressor v3.5.3 crashes immediately under Lion so that version of the app isn't even usable when I'm running Lion.
So, if you're having a problem with installation or app removal or updates from the Mac App Store try dismounting any other disks which you might have attached to your Mac and see it that solves your problem. If it does solve the problem then you can almost be assured that the cause of your difficulty is some file that is present on one of your other disks (i.e. app may not even be on your current boot disk).

  • App Store shows there is an update for an uninstalled application

I have installed a game from App Store and since I dislike it I have removed. Still the app store is reminding me that there is an update available for that game. This is not happening with iTunes Store so why with Mac App Store?

    Hi,
Open a Finder window. Select your Home folder in the Sidebar on the left. Open the LIbrary folder, then the Caches folder. Move the com.apple.appstore and the com.apple.storeagent files to the Trash.
From the same Library folder open the the Preferences folder. Move the com.apple.apptstore.plist and the com.apple.storeagent.plist files to the Trash.
Same Library folder again, open the Cookies folder. Move the com.apple.appstore.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac. Launch the MAS. See if that helped.

  • Uninstalling an App from App Store

In trying to setup my app store connection on an 4 server farm, I realized I had made a mistake and was trying to start over.  I had successfully downloaded an app but while trying to uninstall I get an error that reads:
Sorry, we couldn't remove the app. Click to retry.
Which does nothing but keeps giving me the same error.
    So I found this article
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/fp161233.aspx and got this error:
So I thought maybe I had the name wrong of the title or something, and so I ran some more powershell script to reveal this:
I have the name correct but the status of the app shows it is already uninstalling, like it is stuck in that status.  Also I notice my AppWebFullUrl is a mess, I blacked out our intranet name, but the way the url reads it looks as though there
is an additional http//app.<domainname>/AppBrightBanner. That is not right, I think it should read http://app-e3a39ca695c34b.app.<domainname>/AppBrightBanner right?
Is there a way to fix both of these issues?

Is your App domain not a public domain? Seems awfully short for app.TLD, but I suppose it is possible.
You should be able to have an IIS Site with a host header, and one without, but of course by default, the Default Web Site does not have a host header on it. Is that where the conflict is coming from?

  • OS X Server 4 (Build 14S333) won't update from App Store

I bought "OS X Server" back in October of this year. It did not show up in updates on the App Store's update page but the OS X server claimed there was an update. I am running OS X 10.10.1 (Build 14B25) on an old mid-2008 iMac.
When I explicitly go to the "OS X Server" page of the App Store it shows an update as being available. When I try to update it says it will stop all OS X Server services and then hangs. Note: I am running Little Snitch but disable it for this update.
I have tried this multiple times with OS X Server opened and closed but after several weeks I still cannot update it. I would be willing to uninstall OS X Server and then try reinstalling it if I knew how.
Dealing previously with Apple on an non-updating App Store APP was extremely frustrating and did not get the issue resolved.
Does anyone have any suggestions so I can apply this update?
Note: I DID not need OS X Server on my system and I am not using it to manage other computers on my home network.
Thanks so much for your time and help.
    Best Regards,
    Bob

Thanks, that may have worked. I am a bit confused.
After doing as you suggested and rebooting the APP Store did allow installation but the version installed was Server 4 (Build 14S333) ** the same as before ** and yet again the App Store shows that OS X Server is update-able.  Attempting to update again hangs.
I cannot find anything via Google or otherwise that has the Build number of the "latest released build" of OS X Server 4. Also the App Store page does not contain this information.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • My server keeps telling me that I have an update for 10.10.1 and that I should look for it in the app store. I do that and am not finding anything that makes the update notification go away. I have installed an update the app store says I need.

I updated to Yosemite on my Mac mini/server. Then my server wouldn't work. I updated and bought the software needed when updating to Yosemite. The server seems to be working. Subsequently I've started getting a notification on the server icon that an update is needed. When i look for details I'm instructed to go to the app store. I've done that. In the updates category no update is found by the app store system. I then went to the purchases category and was informed I needed to install the server software I'd purchased. While I'd installed before, I did it again. I still have the 1 in a red circle covering part of the server icon. I have restarted the mac mini. I can't figure out what step I'm missing. The continued presence of the red circle suggests that the software still isn't installed. Looked into restarting the server in help but don't find clear instructions that make sense. Suggestions from someone who has a mac mini server and has worked with this topic would be greatly appreciated. General comments from anyone who has not looked at this kind of problem before might turn out to be unenlightening for this neophyte.

I tried turning the computer off and then back on. The alerts don't show the notice to update as resolved. Hopefully this is not a problem or an indicator or another problem. Should I ignore or reload 10.10.1 from the app store to trigger a resolved check in a green circle?
Interesting that I had to buy server software after my free Yosemite download. I would have hoped that the two pieces of software would have gone together without any complication. It is not positive to end up buying a problem. Ah well, time to move on.

  • TS3274 I downloaded netflix and it's not showing up and if I go into App Store it says it's downloaded but it won't open. Can anyone help me?

I downloaded Netflix from the App Store and it won't show up on my iPad and when I go into the store it says downloaded and open but it won't open. I tried deleting it and reinstalling it but I can't figure out how to uninstall it either. Please help

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Power off and then back on your router
.- Reset network settings: Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings
    - Try when connected to another network
    - Update via iTunes on a computer.

  • Is there any way to get the server app other that through the app store. We do not have our system conneted to a network. I typical downloaded items on a non-apple system.

is there any way to get the server app other than through the app store. The system that I need it on are not connected to the internet.
We run a closed-loop network of apple systems and I tipically downloaded updates on a non-apple system that was on the internet.
    Any ideas?

I did buy the server app, went to the app store to download it. This system I'm using for downloads is Snow Leopard 10.6.8, it shows that I can download it but only as an Install which says I need 10.8. I can't seem to find a way for it to just download as a package or .dmg file so that I can copy it to DVD/CD or flash drive.

  • ITunes on Win 7 x64 - App Store doesn't load and no purchased items showing - Unsolved

    Windows 7 Professional (LEGAL x64)  / iTunes x64
    Situation:
App Store loads as a blank white page and there are no purchased items showing. The interesting thing is that App Store Essentials and Free iPad apps in the App Store dropdown do show up.
    Tried and failed..:
I have tried the recommendations on various threads in this forum including but not limited to:
Netsh winsock reset - command line and reboot  (works for some)
Complete uninstall of itunes along with bonjour, quicktime and other components (works for some..although reading that this is temporary). This was recommendation from iTunes support and seems to be a complete and utter waste of time..
Have tried changingsettings under Parental options. (no clue what this is suppose to do ..but it was suggested)
Even tried upgrade to iTunes 10.5 beta 6
    Nothing has resolved the problem.
    May be related or unrelated..
Now I have another system on my home network (Win 7 32bit) that just received a "bonjour service has stopped working" and seems to be suffering. Just rebooted after a required system restore.
Apple needs to solve this problem and quickly. Curious if anyone else has any other suggestions.

Tried this newly posted solution as well:
Remove Apple Application Support v2.0.1.  Then go to: C:/ProgramData/Apple/Installer Cache/AppleAplicationSupport 1.5.2 and install the AppleAplicationSupport.msi
This hosed my iTunes completely and resulted in the following error when starting:
"The procedure entry point CFHTTPCookieCopyName could not be located in the dynamic link library CFNetwork.dll"....

Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, you dont want to see some purchases in iTiunes store. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help you resolve or isolate the issue.

  • Mac App Store Shows Wrong Firmware Update

My Mac App Store on my Macbook Air shows an update for the following firmware:
MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 2.9
Obviously that shouldn't be there since I'm on a MacBook Air. The real issue other than that showing up in the list is that checking for updates times out on the server, sometimes with the timeout 1001 error, and I'm not able to get updates for any other apps, including iTunes.
Does anyone know how to reset the app store so that it can figure out what kind of laptop I'm using? I tried looking for the com.apple.appstore... file that I saw in the forum somewhere but there was no such file under /Library/Preferences to remove.
I did manually download that MacBook Pro 2.9 update and ran it to see if that would clear it, but it didn't. (And it wouldn't install, obviously, because it doesn't work on my system.)
I did download iTunes 11 and installed it outside the App Store, which worked, and I also updated my MacBook firmware to the latest. And finally, I put on the 10.8.2 supplemental package manually, but none of this has fixed the app store.
    Anyone know what to do?

Fixed my own problem after some searching. I deleted the software update file with this command:
    sudo find / -type f -name com.apple.SoftwareUpdate\* -exec rm -f {} \;
Then after that it all worked fine, including removal of the MacBook Pro firmware update.

  • I have installed the latest version of iTunes but it still shows outstanding in the App Store

I have updated the latest version of iTunes [11.2.1] but in the App Store it is still showing as outstanding and that it needs to be installed. How do I fix this?

    Hello mustangcim243,
iTunes has various components bundled with it that it requires for general usage. I advise that we completely remove iTunes and all of these related components, verify that they have been removed, then reinstall. To do so, please follow the steps in this article:
Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923
Note: it is important to remove the 7 components in order. Uninstalling these components in a different order, or only uninstalling some of these components may have unintended affects.
If the above does not resolve your issue, I recommend we reset the SC Info folder:
iTunes repeatedly prompts to authorize computer to play iTunes Store purchases
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1389
(See Step 4: Remove the SC Info folder)
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • I tried to download from the app store.  It will not download.  It shows up under "other purchases" but the action button is blank.  I have tried to re-download it and it won't let me do that either.  Any suggestions?

Mavericks will not download from the app store.  It shows up under "other purchases" but the action button is grey and will not allow me to install, uninstall or redownload.  I meet the system requirements but nothing is working.  Any help would be appreciated!

There is nothing wrong with my iTunes, is more of the App store that I am concerned about. And I've tried the "Authorise this computer" yes it does download when using iTunes, but no luck with App Store. And, yes I am logged onto iTunes when doing purchases.
I find this really fustrating because the App store works fine on my ipod but once it comes to my macbook, it does not download. A few seconds later after I click on an app to download, the pop up message notifies me that the purchase cannot be downloaded.
    Anyways, thanks for your suggestion.
