Server Assistant hangs at: Installation...  window?

Hello All!
I'm trying to do a clean install of the server OS (10.4)on a "no-video card" XServer. I'm using my powerbook on a little standalone network (server, switch, and powerbook).
Server Assistant connects fine from Powerbook using "169.254.X.X." address. Server Assistant presents the typical windows and following the message about having to erase volume to intall, etc. Final window declaring Installation in progress with progress bar appears. However, it appears to hang at this window, and the progress bar shows no updating.
Anybody seen this before? Any recommendations on what to try?
Thank you!

The boot volume had some permission issues. The quick fix, as opposed to looking up how to do it via the commandline, was... to reboot off the existing harddrive, re-format disk1, pop disk0, start back up from DVD and install on "disk1." From the new intall reformat "disk0" and update away...!

  • OS Mavericks - Boot Camp Assistant can not download windows support software because it is "not currently available from the Software Update server."

When trying in install windows 7 on my mac, the Boot Camp Assistant attempts to fownload windows support software.  However, the program continues to return the following error: the windows support software "not currently available from the Software Update server."
Is there another way to get this software?

64 bit.  I found the support drivers and got the windows installation done.  When trying to run the 64 bit support drivers in Windows 7, it says my computer doesn't support 64 bit.  Sooooo.....
I'm assuming I have to download the 32 bit support drivers for Windows 7.
    Correct?

  • SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 installation hangs during extract phase

    Greetings!
I am having an issue with trying to silent install SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 (x86).
I have a proprietary installation framework, which is calling the SQL Server Express installer.
The SQL Server Express installer starts extracting files to c:\{some guid}. The folder reaches about 11 mb in size, and then nothing further happens. No activity on the machine, CPU or disk - I have waited up to 15 minutes to verify this. On the normal installation,
the size of this folder is ~650 mb.
Here are the things I've also tested:
    - I'm experiencing these symptoms on both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2012 R2 (haven't tested other platforms)
    - If I launch exactly the same command from the command prompt, the installation goes through as normal
    - If I replace the SQL Server Express 2012 SP2 with SQL Server Express 2012 SP1, and install via our installation framework, the installation goes through as normal
    - I have checked and double-checked that our installation framework is started with administrative privileges.
    - From my previous search attempts, I have seen issues where the installer would hang or fail when launched from inside an msi, which would result in a log in C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\<something something>. These are not the symptoms
I am experiencing. The C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\ folder is not even created!
Any suggestions, or places I can look to figure out why it's not proceeding? For now, I have worked around the issue by including SP1 instead of SP2, but ideally I'd like to base my solution on the most recent service pack.

    Hello Alberto!
The installation framework does check for this. I'm also certain that these prerequisites are fulfilled.
When the SQL Server process hangs, I can kill the process, copy/paste the exact command that was executed from the installation framework's log files, and execute that command in a command prompt - and then the installation runs as expected.
The installation framework installs SQL Server Express correctly if I use the 2008 R2 SP1 express or the 2012 SP1 Express installer. It's just the SP2 installer that is giving me problems.
The only difference I can think of is that the installation framework is a 32-bit process, which calls the SQL Server installer, while the command prompt is a 64-bit application. I am installing the SQLEXPR_x86_ENU.exe
from http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=43351, so it should be compatible with my 32 bit environment -
"SQLEXPR_x86 is the same product but supports installation onto both 32-bit and 64-bit (WoW) operating systems"
    Tomorrow, I will try:
    - Installing on Windows 7 32-bit
    - Trying to launch the SQL Server installer from a powershell (x86) prompt, to emulate a 32-bit environment on a 64-bit machine

My Server 2008 R1 32bit installation is hanging on crcdisk.sys.  I am trying to recover via the installation repair options.  However, my hard disks, and thus my OS is not being detected.  The hardware itself checks out fine, controller,
partitions, and BIOS load with no issues.  This is an inherited machine so i am unsure of where to look when I click the "load drivers" option to detect the drives.  Is there any way to solve this short of re-installation?

Did you have a look at the PAM as suggest at http://service.sap.com/pam?
Vista/Windows 7 are client operating systems and are not supported for ERP 6.0 or Solution Manager or any other backend.

  • Hang on installation Oracale Express Server 6.3.4

    Hello All
Installation process stopped when progress 95% on file explang.hlp
I waited for 10-15 minutes but nothing changed.
I closed Universal Installer Window. Express server started and working normally,
but installed products are not registered into Oracle Inventory.
How can i finish installation process normally ?
    Type of installation Complete.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
We've seen this before on XP and Win 2000 machines. We believe that this has been addressed.
How did you get the 6.3.4 media? Off OTN or Metalink? I would suggest downloading the latest off of metalink
and try it again if this is really a problem for you.

  • Boot Camp Assistant fails to copy windows installation files

I have been struggling to get Windows 8 installed on a brand new Macbook Pro Retina. It seemed simple enough to just run Boot Camp 5 with a 16GB flash drive in the USB port and a Windows 8 Professional ISO sitting on the desktop with the intent of creating a bootable USB drive, but it's not working for me. After selecting the path to the ISO file, boot camp proceeds to format the flash drive, create the WININSTALL partition, and attempt to copy the contents of the ISO to it, but it fails.
The error message isn't all that helpful, but the console logs seem to indicate that there is some sort of problem remounting the flash drive after formatting:
5/15/13 2:05:05.609 AM fseventsd[40]: could not open <</Volumes/WININSTALL/.fseventsd/fseventsd-uuid>> (No such file or directory) 5/15/13 2:05:05.609 AM fseventsd[40]: log dir: /Volumes/WININSTALL/.fseventsd getting new uuid: FD5D8B3E-A08E-4710-8925-CAA898FA70C3 5/15/13 2:05:05.679 AM fseventsd[40]: Events arrived for /Volumes/WININSTALL after an unmount request! I have tried rebooting, removing and re-inserting the flash drive, mounting, umounting, and reformatting. Boot Camp always winds up in the same place.
Any hints as to what might be going wrong?

Thanks for the note. But neither link lists our MacBook Pro mid 2014.
And how can I use Boot Camp Assistant to write the Windows.iso to USB-stick because it forces the download of support software (it is selected and grayed out).
The following page recommends using BCA for the MBP mid 2014.
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204048
I guess I could write the Windows.iso to USB using Windows (in fact I already did and it boots the MBP) and then try if the aforementioned software packages (which one?) contain necessary drivers for our MBP.
But I'd rather do it the recommended way letting the Boot Camp Assistant do the dirty work.

  • Backup server setup info with Server Assistant

    Hi,
I'm trying to backup my OS X Server (10.9.4) setup information using Server Assistant. On the 'Welcome' page in the Assistant, I selected "Save setup information in a file or directory record." The other choices are "Install software on a remote server" or "Setup a remote server." When I click Continue, the Assistant acts more like it's doing an initial installation as opposed to a backup of settings that are already in use. It asks for the OS X Sever serial number, and even for the administrator name, shortname, password, and to verify the password, just as though i'm setting up the server for the first time. I'm afraid to continue past the Administrator Account page since it seems like it might copy over my current setup.
OS X Server Help is useless here. It only states that you can backup the server settings, not how to do it.
Anybody ever do this before? Should I just proceed?
    thanks

    X Serve Mac OS X (10.4.9)

    Hi
You can use Server Assistant but it can only save a configuration file to another server running directory services. You can save property lists for individual configured services by drag dropping the propery list to the desktop (small icon above the Settings Save button. Transfer them to a memory stick or something suitable. Server Admin can be configured later on with these property lists. Export Users and Groups, bear in mind passwords are not transferred across. You can transfer passwords using the appropriate command line tools, but this is not trivial. Most people find it easier to define a password policy for all users once they have been re-imported.
For many reasons I would not advise you to save the Open Directory property list.
If you are planning to change the server name and/or IP address then don’t start the services after drag dropping the transferred property lists, issue changeip first – consult the man page for proper usage. Restart the server twice and then start your services one by one starting with AFP, Windows and DHCP, test these with a test user in the local directory node. When you are ready move on to DNS, test this thoroughly before moving on to any DNS dependent services such as LDAP, Mail, Web, SUS etc.
    Hope this helps

  • Forms based system on App server 10.1.2.2 windows server 2008 questions

    Hi guys,
We run a 10g forms based MRP system. We converted to 10g 3 years ago and have been selling our system without issue now for that time.
The current system has a shelf life of at least 3 more years whilst we develop a new system in 11g and jdeveloper.
We currently deploy on windows 2003 R2 with app server 10.1.2.2.
We cant move to patchset 10.1.2.3 as they are not backward compatible with our JAR file and we do not have the man power to upgrade all our customers in a short space of time.
Eventually 2003 will cease to be available (not sure the shelf life on this, has anyone any idea?)
Which leaves Server 2008 as the only available server. This does not work with 10.1.2.2.. so we are struggling to find a way round our issues.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
We have just run it through with the same patchset for the installer. This is a clean install of Win OS and installed the 10g database first.
We receive the following error when installing the App Server (Forms & Reports)
*"Output generated from configuration assistant "Application Server Control Configuration Assistant":*

*Configuration assistant "Application Server Control Configuration Assistant" failed"*
When we type NET HELPMSG 3547 (as suggested), we receive the following error message:
*"A service specifig error occurred: ***."*
Are you running Windows Server 2008 (first release) or Windows Server 2008 R2?
Any suggestions? I will try installing the App Server without installing the database now to see if that makes any difference.
    Thanks

  • Server Assistant doesn't start automatically

I reinstalled Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard on Mac mini Server,
but the Server Assistant didn't open automatically.
    In the manual I found:
Server Assistant opens automatically when you:
Finish installing Mac OS X Server v10.6 Snow Leopard
Start up a new server with Snow Leopard Server preinstalled
What is the right way to reinstall Mac OS X Server Snow Leopard
so that I can change the settings?

I attempted to install a new preinstalled 2.5 Ghz Mac Mini refurb, 10.6 server software, going the headless route that is suggested by Apple. I was not able to get the Server Assistant to start either, after I did get the setup window to take the root admin login, and the server key would never take. I wound up attaching keyboard, mouse, monitor and network cable to the Mini, then got the setup completed nicely, ran all updates, no additional problems.
It seems that the remote setup, which I attempted through another 10.6 MBP on the network, had installed the admin tools DVD, don't think I actually updated the admin tools (which could have added to the setup problems), never communicated fully with the setup software on the Mini.
My recommendations are to avoid the headless install with a mini. I have done headless installs on 10.4, 10.5, and 10.6 Xserves with no real problem. I don't know why there would be any difference for the same version OS.

  • Downgrade Windows server 2012 64 bit to windows server 2008 R2 32 bit

    HI,
what I want to know is when Downgrading Windows server 2012 64 bit to windows server 2008 R2 32 bit, will there be any issues of the license? Can I use the same license of 2012 server for the new 2008 installation.

    Hi,
Based on my experience, we cannot use the Windows Server 2012 license key to activate a Windows Server 2008 install.
In addition, which channel the windows server 2012 was purchased through? It seems that the media and product keys to downgrade are not provided although downgrade rights are granted
since Microsoft only supplies bits and product keys to Volume License customers and only for certain versions and editions of the software.
I recommend you to contact the Licensing Activation Centers below for assistance:

if the servers talk to each other through a pix or other firewall then it

Set maximum wait states=5 on the netware server so that it will not hold
