Server automatically logging admin account out

Greetings!
I have a fresh installation of 10.5.x Server on a G5 and I'm noticing something that I haven't seen on any OS X Server before - it's logging me out after a period of inactivity. I currently have one account on the machine, and this is happening when I'm logging in on the machine itself. It's in a small office environment, and there are no security concerns with access. I'd like to just have the screensaver password, but it's logging me out completely.
I have Googled, Binged, Yahooed, Dogpiled, and dug through the Apple Discussions to no avail. I did see another similar thread, but no answers.
On OS X 'client' I know that the "log out after X minutes of inactivity" is in System Preferences -> Security, but on my server there is no such option. ("Security" is there, but there's nothing about logout.)
I've looked everywhere I can think of in Server Admin and Workgroup Manager but no dice.
And like I said, I have not seen this happen on other 10.5.x Server boxes...just this new install.
Help!

This article says it should still be there in "regular" Mac OS X (nothing about Server) but in 10.5 you have to click System, and if anything is grayed out, you have to click the lock and authenticate. I expect you already did all that.
Mac OS X 10.5 Help: Setting your computer to log out automatically
This one suggests that in 10.3 and 10.4 SERVER the feature is located in
System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options
Mac OS X 10.3 and later, Mac OS X Server 10.3 and later: Unsaved changes will prevent automatic logout

  • Screen sharing to OS X Lion Server with non-admin account

I have set up a Lion Server with one admin (in addition to the root user) and several non-admin normal accounts. In Server.app, I have enabled remote login with ssh, and remote management via screen sharing.  I am unable to use Screen Sharing to connect to the server from the non-admin accounts, but able to use the admin account. I've read that it is only enabled for admin users, but need to access from non-admin accounts, and I can't add these accounts to the admin group. Is there a way to do this with Workgroup Manager? I tried changing the Remote Management settings in System Preferences by adding the non-admin, but when selecting 'Observe' and 'Control' in the options for the user, they are not saved.

I resolved this issue by deselecting the "Enable screen sharing and remote management" in Server.app and going to System Preferences, Sharing Preferences, Screen Sharing, and allowing access for "All Users".  If you have some users you want to allow VNC, you can create a group, add the allowed users to the group, and add the group under "Only these users".

  • Server automatic logging

    Hi,
We are using Stellent Content servers. Web version of log files are available in <Instance>/server/weblayout/groups/secure/logs/
server logs these html files automatically.
My question is.., Can we configure server to log events in a single html file, without creating a new file for everyday.
    Any help would be appreaciated.
    Thanks

We now understand that it's a brand of hub provided by a certain ISP. Nice of them to have mentioned it.....

  • Crystal Report Server Database Log File Growth Out Of Control?

We are hosting Crystal Report Server 11.5 on Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Enterprise.  Our Crystal Report Server SQL 2005 database file size = 6,272 KB, and the log file that goes with the database has a size = 23,839,552.
I have been reviewing the Application Logs and this log file size is auto-increasing about 3-times a week.
We backup the database each night, and run maintenance routines to Check Database Integrity, re-organize index, rebuild index, update statistics, and backup the database.
Is it "Normal" to have such a large LOG file compared to the DATABASE file?
Can you tell me if there is a recommended way to SHRINK the log file?
Some Technical Documents suggest frist truncating the log, and the using the DBCC SHRINKFILE command:
    USE CRS
    GO
--Truncate the log by changing the database recovery model to SIMPLE
    ALTER DATABASE CRS
    SET RECOVERY SIMPLE;
--Shrink the truncated log file to 1 gigabyte
    DBCC SHRINKFILE (CRS_log, 1000);
    GO
    --Reset the database recovery model.
    ALTER DATABASE CRS
    SET RECOVERY FULL;
    GO
Do you think this approach would help?
Do you think this approach would cause any problems?

my bad you didn't put the K on the 2nd number.
Looking at my SQL server that's crazy big my logs are in the k's like 4-8.
I think someone enabled some type of debugging on your SQL server, it's more of a Microsoft issue, as our product doesn't require it from looking at my SQL DB's

  • How to start managed server automatically with admin server.

Hello all, I have an admin server anda managed server configured in a machine. I want to start the managed server as soon as I run the script to start the admin server and node manager in the unix pc.
The admin and managed server are added to the same machine and the machine is connected with the node manager.
Please let me know what else need to be configured or make change in the script.

    hello user12003735..
sorry for not mentioning the wlst tool path.
You can start the wlst(WEBLOGIC SCRIPTING TOOL) in two ways and run your jython scripts.
PROCEDURE 1) Directly invoking wlst :
You will find the wlst.cmd(wlst.sh in case of UNIX enviroments) in $WL_HOME/common/bin. From command line do this
    wlst <JYTHON SCRIPT>
    ./wlst.sh <JYTHON SCRIPT> [UNIX]
PROCEDURE 2) From Command Line :
There is a jar file in $WL_HOME/server/lib named weblogic.jar. It conatins a class file named WLST.cmd in the package weblogic[Try jd-gui.exe java decompiler to look inside the jarfile. to get it google it]. This jar file actually makes the wlst tool running. If you try to look inside wlst.cmd or wlst.sh you will find that the scripts are internally adding this jar file in CLASSPATH and calling it:
    eval '"${JAVA_HOME}/bin/java"' ${JVM_ARGS} weblogic.WLST '"$@"' [wlst.sh]
    "%JAVA_HOME%\bin\java" %JVM_ARGS% weblogic.WLST %* [wslt.cmd]
So you can do exactly what the scripts doing from command line. do this :
    {A} $WL_HOME/server/bin/setWLSEnv.sh [or setWLSEnv.cmd] <---------------------------------------- SETS THE CLASSPATH
You will see a lot of jar files added to your classpath and this step is exactly same when you run the wlst from the scripts in PROCEDURE 1.
    java weblogic.WLST <JYTHON SCRIPT>
One thing you can also use the weblogic jar file to monitor any weblogic server[You have to first set the env with setWLSEnv.cmd or .sh]:
java weblogic.Admin -url t3://<IP>:<PORT> -username <USERNAME> -password <PASSWORD> GETSTATE <SERVERNAME> [GETTING THE STATE]
java weblogic.Admin -url t3://<IP>:<PORT> -username <USERNAME> -password <PASSWORD> FORCESHUTDOWN <SERVERNAME> [FORCIBLY SHUTTING DOWN SERVERS]
You can do many other things with weblogic.jar not just the previous two. Refer to oracle manuals.

  • Parental Controls Fails to Log Managed Account Out (logs included)

I use Parental Controls to limit my children's time playing video games (my time, too). The forced logout often fails. In particular, the screen flashes and the voice are present, but the forced logout doesn't happen, and the child (or me) is free to continue wasting time. Here's the relevant portion of system.log:

Note the similarity to the earlier post by Mike Harris (http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6259747). Unfortunately, this one is somewhat different; the error returned by CGSCreateLoginSession is 1010. In CGError.h, this error is defined as: kCGErrorInvalidOperation. If I could see what arguments were being passed to CGSCreateLoginSession, this might help...
Following this failure, there's a crash log written for the SecurityAgent, which suggests a bus error, though I'm guessing this is not related to the root cause.

Sadly, this sequence did not solve the problem, though I do have a bit more information.
Firstly; following a reboot, the first forced logout worked correctly, and subsequent ones failed; I believe that this is always the case. That is, it always works the first time after rebooting, and fails thereafter.
With respect to your suggestions: the preference file was loginwindow.plist, not com.apple.loginwindow.plist. I did delete it, and it was re-created; it looks pretty innocuous. Using the Property List Editor to convert it to XML, it looks like this:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
    <key>BuildVersionStampAsNumber</key>
    <integer>19269344</integer>
    <key>BuildVersionStampAsString</key>
    <string>9G55</string>
    <key>SystemVersionStampAsNumber</key>
    <integer>168101376</integer>
    <key>SystemVersionStampAsString</key>
    <string>10.5.6</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
Thirdly, running fix perms in Disk Utility did find altered permissions on several likely-looking files; the secure.log was group-readable and shouldn't have been, and several elements of /Library/Application Support/ were not group-readable and were supposed to be. Unfortunately, repairing these permissions did not make the problem go away.
I do have one final clue, though; on the first (successful) forced logout after rebooting, I noticed a launchd message in system.log:
    Jan 4 10:21:26 Schmoop-Box-3 com.apple.launchd[198] ([0x0-0x22022].com.yourcompany.starwars[231]): Exited: Killed
That's the successful one, mind you. So I'm wondering whether the first successful exit is taking down some launchd agent that helps with the forced logout process.
    Ah, speculation.
    Many thanks for your suggestions.

  • ?: Automatically logged out to login screen

Hey everyone,  I'm currently having an issue with gnome.  My system boots fine up to the GDM.  When i log in everything seems to be going fine,  the desktop loads, but before the panels or anything else loads i am kicked out back to the GDM login screen.  I haven't experienced this before and am confused as to how to fix it from automatically logging me back out every time i try to log in.  If anyone has any suggestions or would like to see any logs just let me know and I will post the logs asked for.  I recently did a full system reinstall but I am very sure I didn't miss anything while reinstalling.  Any help would be great.
    Thanks

MadTux wrote:So just to clarify things, did login work after you reinstalled your system? It could be a result of any programs automatically started for your user after login. So, you could create another user and try to login with that and see if you have the same problems.
    Hey madtux
No the login didn't, I had switched to a different distro for a little bit just to try out another, but this time when switching back to arch this problem kept happening so I haven't been able to login successfully from gnome at all since re-installation.  It seems like it just logs me back out to the GDM login screen, and every time i type my password it will start to login but then just kick me out again.

  • Creating Admin Account

I have one user account currently that obviously also serves as my admin account.
For security reasons, I would like to create a true admin account and then have a user account I primarily use.
I am not sure how to do this. Should I create a new user account without admin privileges and them move my docs, etc to that account?
    Tony Stinson

    Hi Tony
That's one way, but it would be easier to first create a new account with admin privileges, then change your existing working account to non-admin. That way you don't have to move anything.

  • Can't automatically log out of guest account

I'm setting up a computer lab of Mac Minis. I want to set them up to automatically log out after 10 minutes of no activity. I have adjusted the necessary settings in the system preferences/security settings, but it still won't completely log out of the guest account. It will get stuck at the screen which reads "If you log out, your files will be deleted". It won't go further until you choose "Delete files and log out". This completely defeats the purpose of automatically logging out. I don't trust that the users of these computers will actually log themselves out every time.
How can I change this so that this pop up screen doesn't show up but the computer just logs out?

No I haven't found a solution to this. I'm not sure what the deal is, but this seems to be an oversight of the Snow Leopard developers as far as I can tell.

  • Ogging into admin account, logs straight back out

After logging into the main (admin) account on the laptop, the spinning beachball comes up, and then the account logs out. No problems logging into a guest account.

Try holding down the shift key when logging in to the problem account. That will disable login items. Post back what happens.

  • Domain admin accounts locks out constantly

    Hello.
My boss has a domain admin account that keeps locking out, and we can't figure out why. We can tell from the domain controller logs that krbtgt is the *offending* service, and it is coming from a sql server that we have. In looking over the server, we can't
find where any passwords might be stored that would be trying to pass this automatically. We've even manually removed any profile information for this account that we could find. If I reset the account, I can then log into the server with his account and everything
is fine, but after logging out the account locks again.
Does anybody have any ideas for how to fix this?
If it helps, the EventID is 4771 and the Status that gets returned is 0x12

I have something that can help you enabling netlogon logging on all DCs.
    1. Make a list of DCs and save it in a text file called dcs.txt (you can do that by running netdom query DC).
    2. Download psexec.exe from sysinternals
    3. Then run the following to enable logging:
    for /f %i in (dcs.txt) do psexec \\%i c:\windows\system32\nltest.exe /dbflag:0x2080ffff
    4. Take the log files all in your place:
    for /f %i in (dcs.txt) do copy /y \\%i\admin$\debug\netlogon.log .\%i.netlogon.log
    5. then search for wrong passwords:
    type *.netlogon.log |findstr /i 0xC000006A > badpasswords.txt
    6. Disable netlogon logging:
    for /f %i in (dcs.txt) do psexec \\%i c:\windows\system32\nltest.exe /dbflag:0x0

  • Can't start laptop - problems with automatic repair, need acces to admin account but there is none. HELP! :(

    Hello,
I'm having problems with my windows 8 laptop.
This afternoon I shut it down, and went to work. A few hours later when I came back home I noticed the little blue lights on the keyboard (showing me that the pc was charging and that my wifi is on) were still on. Normally these are off when the pc is turned
    off.
I tried starting the laptop but nothing happened, the screen stayed black. I held down the 'on' button to force it to turn off, and turned it on again.
I then got a textmessage on the startup loading screen that there were problems with my C drive (only drive the laptop has), so it went to automatic repair.
*my laptop's language is set to Dutch so I'm translating everything :)*
    It gave me 2 options:
    1: Restart computer
    2: Advanced options.
I tried option 1, didnt work ofcourse, it just restarted and I got back to this screen, so I checked what option 2 had to offer.
I got to a screen with 3 options:
    1: Continue to windows 8
    2: Solve Problems
    3: Shut down
When I tried option 1 the computer just restarted and went back to the same screen.
When I tried option 3 it shut down as it should.
Option 2 gave me 3 other options:
    1: Renew PC
    2: Factory reset
    3: advanced options
Option 1 just restarted my pc and took me back to screen 1.
Option 2 I havent tried yet, because it erases all of my files. This is a last resort.
Option 3 gave me 6 other options:
    1: Systemrepair
    2: Repair with installationcopy
    3: Startuprepair
    4: CMD
    5: UEFI firmware settings
    6. Startupsettings.
I can't use option 1,2,3,4 because I need to log in to an administratoraccount.
The bad part is: the laptop doesn't have an administratoraccount.
It was my parents laptop, and theyve set it up. I always assumed the account was an admin because
I had acces to everything and didn't need a password to run things as admin and such.
    Turns out it isn't.
I get this message (translated) when I try to acces one of these:
'You have to log in as administrator to continue, but this pc doesn't have an administratoraccount'.
I can't believe microsoft added a check to see if the pc has an admin account on it, and even added a specific message to show when it doesn't, but they didnt add the option to just use these tools when there is no admin account present? What were they thinking!
Option 5 I havent tried yet, when I click it it says I have to restart to acces these settings, but I dont want to mess with something I know nothing about.
Option 6 gives me a few options like run the pc in safety mode, run windows repair and disable auto-restart after something has gone wrong with windows. But when I select one of these options it doesnt work. It just takes me back to auto repair. It just doesn't
    doe anything.
There are no other options. Nothing I can do. My pc is stuck like this. The only thing I *might* be able to do is a factory reset, but I havent tried, and that could also just give me an error about me not being admin.
Some backstory of what I think caused this problem:
I believe the problems started a week ago, last friday.
I'm using a program called 'AVG TuneUp'. This program gave me a message telling me it was 3 months since it had checked my C drive for defects or anything. And it asked me if I wanted it to do so. Unknowing of the problems that would follow, I pressed 'ok'
    (or whatever it was).
I had to restart my pc for it to begin, because it could only check the drive during startup. It went to 12% and stayed there for like half an hour, after which I decided to google (on my phone) if that was normal. It turned out that that option doesn't work
well with windows 8 and that lots of people's computers got ruined after using it. I stressed and I tried to shut it down, but since I was still in startup the only thing I could do was force the pc to shut down, so I held down the power button and it shut
down. I restarted and managed to abort the proces. The laptop started fine and everything worked.
A few days later a game/program I use called League of Legends started to act weird, because I could not log in on my account (for the game) anymore. Some error with IE settings, which I was unable to fix. For more info about that go to http://boards.eune.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/help-support-en/8Eoz315J-cant-log-in-to-lol-and-cant-log-in-to-steam-either-weird-coincidence.
Although I doubt it will help.
That forum post also contains a link to a post I made on the Steam forum about not being able to log into steam anymore. (Steam is another program I used). I wasn't able to log into steam anymore about 1-2 days after I wasn't able to log into LoL.
Also at the same time my Norton sortof stopped working. It showed up as active in my task manager and AVG TuneUp program manager, but it wasn't in my task bar and I couldnt acces the control panel.
Then yesterday I checked my pc for errors with AVG TuneUp's 1-click maintenance tool, and it told me my C drive was fragmented badly, so I defragmented it using the tool. Laptop still worked fine after that.
And then today I got the error on startup about my C drive having errors.
Long story shot: Problem is probably caused because I stopped the repair of my C drive with the avg tuneup tool before it was done, however its weird that I'm only experiencing (big) problems a week after that happened.

    Kind regards,
    Christian Collaert

    Hello,
Perhaps the operating system is incorrectly powering down or shifting the wireless adapter to a low power state in order to improve run time while on battery?
Try going into the Device Manager (filename: DEVMGMT.MSC), locate the wireless adapter under the Network Adapters tree, view its Properties, and on the Power Management tab, disable (un-check) the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power option.
Please let us know if that makes any difference (or not).
    Regards,
    Aryeh Goretsky

  • Can not log into server computer with any accounts - "You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."

I have a Mac mini running the latest version of OS X and Server. Been running fine and flawlessly. However, I had a strange problem with the iCloud preferences panel crashing when I tried to access it, so I rebooted. Now I can not log into the system with any accounts. My master admin account (along with all the others) gives me the error:
You are unable to login to the user account "abcdefg" at this time. Logging in to the account failed because an error occurred."
I am able to see the server from other macs and I can log into it using the same account, but it only shows me a few of the shared folders I have access to but NOT to my main directories.
Rebooting into Command-R and doing a disk utility, I try and repair permission on that drive and get a bunch of errors like:
ACL found but not expected on Users
    Repaired "Users"
ACL found but not expected on Users/.localized
    Repaired "Users/.localized"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared
    Repaired "Users/shared"
ACL found but not expected on Users/Shared/.localized
    Repaired "Users/Shared/.localized"
    Permissions repair complete.
But rebooting is no joy...same problem. Any idea what is going on or how to repair it? Should I do a time machine restore? Complete new OS X install? Any idea what is causing this or how to salvage it?

Got everything to re-install and it worked fine...for a few hours. Then I came in to find ALL of my network users deleted. Just GONE. Then found out the Open Directory was trashed and was unable to open, recover or restore from a backup. Looks like I may have a bad drive here.
I installed a new drive in the system, re-installed and so far (for a couple of hours anyway) the system seems to be working and stable.

  • Why when I log in to my virtual classroom with the admin account it appears a white screen?

    The meeting room is: meet18787284.adobeconnect.com
The admin account it is e******@*******.net
It appears a white screen like the image I attached
Which number can i dial to have asistance from México?
The number in the oage is 800-422-3623  i tried with 00,01,001,+1 and it didn´t connect kepp saying the number doesnt exist

The link shown in your image is to the Service Plan page for the Connect account (which most likely shows as a white page or throws an error). The server URL you listed above is active and working, but you may just need to log into the server, and then select the desired meeting room. Meeting room URLs should have something after your server URL, for example: meet18787284.adobeconnect.com/myroom
I've also edited out your email, as this is a public forum, and we don't want your information to get misused.

  • IMac is automatically logging use out

I have 3 users on the computer. If the computer sits idle for about 15 min, the log in screen appears with "currently logged in" underneath the users name. However, this will also happen if iTunes is playing or a video.
I've checked System preferences, Securities and the option of "Log out after _ min of activity" is NOT checked under any user. However, I do have energy preferences set to automatically sleep when the computer is inactive for an hour, which the computer never does.
I've checked the console and this is what showed after an automatic log-out has occurred:

I would appreciate it if anyone has any ideas what to do.

Hmmm, if you have PlistPro or Property List Editor, have a look at the hidden...
    /Library/Preferences/.GlobalPreferences.plist
See if it has 900 in there...
Or, you might test it by setting a higher number there in Security pref pane using an Admin Account, but leave to window open, then see if they get logged out at 115 minutes.
