Server automount sharepoint becomes inaccessable

Im kicking myself because everything was working so well. I knew it couldnt last.
I had to change the storage architecture on the server, which involved adding a new HD and changing the location of our users' network home folders. I unmounted the shared folders. Changed the hardware. Added new sharepoints, made one of them home folders, and then updated WGM to reflect the new home folder location.
The sharepoint provided to each user is /Userdata which is on /Volumes/Userdata. This is set to automount and be the location of home folders for the users. A user can log in without issue, and two folders automount; Userdata and username (the individual user name). The user can access Userdata upon login, but 15 seconds later, if the user tries to go through that sharepoint again, there is an error message saying the sharepoint is inaccessible because the location cant be found...
The user still has access to thier username sharepoint. And can still browse to the sever and access the network directories. But that sharepoint is what shows up when they click on the server icon in finder. And I cant not understand why its becoming inaccessible.
Im pretty sure the issue isnt permission related. I cleaned out all ACLs, tested, and then reset them as they should be and tested. Neither worked.

Yep, my problem got resolved ... a bit unsatisfied though.
I tried the root account but that didn't work.
I changed the passwords, but that didn't help either.
After rebooting twice and repaired the drive the problem went away.
Still not sure what caused it and how it went away.
The drive repair logs didn't show any changes to the sharepoints.

  • How do I add Automount Sharepoints on my *model*client

How do I add Automount Sharepoints on my modelclient so that the common image passes on the Desktop , Dock and Sharepoints?
Desktop and dock sorted, sharepoints are messy... six folders - various levels of access - I thought of creating an encompassing folder/sharepoint, place current shares (or aliases?) into this...
I trust that each client may see only those sharepoints they can open? or else these and others with no entry signs?
Ideally, I would hope that their log on would authenticate to the server, and authorise their access to sharepoints for which they are accredited...

Yep, I have this arranged - I believe- on our test setup, and each client sees same desktop, dock and applications on log in.
The model client is being set up using 'ladmin' as account. If ladmin opens Sharepoints ALL sharepoints are accessible and placed in R hand side of dock.
After NetRestore , clients login but the sharepoints do not appear in the dock... I thought that they might appear, but that ACLs would limit access to the shares, depending on the individual client's authority.
Just trying to make life as easy as possible for colleagues - thought that a single logon would define who they are and the sharepoints that they each can access, rather than logon and Command-K for each sharepoint...

  • Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013?

Is there a way in install a trial version of Project server on a Licensed edition server of sharepoint 2013? Is there anyway around this or do I need to make a new box all trial versions to test this out?
    Thanks
    James T.F

    James,
Yes, it is possible , however I wont recommend to do it. Since, once Project trial period expires  you need to uninstall project server which can not be done without uninstalling SharePoint. Unless you are willing to rebuild the farm once your

  • Project Server 2010 / Sharepoint 2010 Permissions not syncing to Project Site

Project Permissions not syncing to Project Site
    Project Manager Group
New project is created and published project server sends permissions to Sharepoint which puts users into the following groups:
    <dir><dir></dir></dir><dir><dir>
    Web Administrator (Microsoft Project Server)
    Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server)
    Team members (Microsoft Project Server)
    Readers (Microsoft Project Server)
At this time the creator/owner, owner’s management, portfolio managers, and executives should all have Project Manager rights on the sharepoint site, and Admins will have Web Admin permissions.
Issue #1: Only the Web Admin permissions and creator/owner permissions are being added to the Sharepoint permission groups
Workaround #1: Going into the project site permissions and adding the
Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server) group manually and the sync will keep the permissions
Workaround #2: Going into the Server Settings, Manager Groups then removing or add all users to the No Permission Group, which forces an sync to all workspaces. Con: This workaround can only be down at night when users are not active since it will
block the queue for at least an hour.
    Project Owner Transfer
Previously created project has owner change, once saved and published project server sends permissions to update user’s permission to
Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server) on Sharepoint project site.
Issue #2: When Project owner is changed and project is published the owner is not getting permissions to the Sharepoint project site. However, if owner is also added to the team using the Build Team Feature the sync will give the owner Project
Manager permissions on the Project Site.
Workaround #1: Going into Server Settings, Project Sites, select project and Synchronize. Once this is done, the owner will have Project Manager Permissions without being added to the team.
Users who have been added to this project in Project Server 2010, but not assigned to tasks. Users who have assignments in this project in Project Server 2010 and are contributors to the project workspace site,
meaning that they can create and edit documents, issues, and risks. Users who have published this project or who have
Save Project permission in Project Web App and are contributors to the project workspace site, meaning that they can create and edit documents, issues, and risks. Users who have
Manage SharePoint Foundation permission in Project Web App and are contributors to the project workspace site, meaning that they can create and edit documents, issues, and risks.</dir></dir>

By default when you create project build team add users in the task and publish the project plan then All the User which are available in the project plan including Project owner will go to below mentioned group in project site:
    1. creator/owner, owner’s management, portfolio managers, and executives should all have Project Manager will get access to Project Managers (Microsoft Project Server)
    2. User who are having team member access to PWA will get Team members (Microsoft Project Server) access if they are assigned to the project task.
    3. User who are having team member access to PWA will get Readers (Microsoft Project Server) access if they are not assigned to the project task.
    4. Only PWA Administrator will get the access to Web Administrator (Microsoft Project Server)
Sharepoint permission you have to use when you want to give permission manually to users on project site
In the Project Site provisioning setting under Server setting if you have Check to automatically synchronize Project Web App users with Project Sites when they are created, when project managers publish projects, and when user permissions change in Project
    Server.
Then all the user get access as per describe above and if you will give access manually to any of the user either in project server group or in Sharepoint group once you will publish the project next time all the manually given permission will go away.
IF you want to give permission to user manually to sharepoint group or project server group then uncheck automatically synchronize Project Web App users with Project Sites when they are created, when project managers publish projects, and when user permissions
    change in Project Server.
You check PWA site setting --> Site permission then member of Sharepoint group user who will have access to sharepoint group in PWA site setting site permission will have access to all the project site sharepoint group as Project site inherit permission
    from PWA root site.
Both the issue which you have described is behavior of project site.
For issue 2 when first time project owner create and publish the project and projectsite is getting created then porject owner name gets access  in the porject manager (project server group) nect time if you will change the owner and publish the project
until he will not present in the project plan will not get the permission.
If you want to give sharepoint permission to users then uncheck automatically synchronize Project Web App users with Project Sites when they are created, when project managers publish projects, and when user permissions change in Project Server and give
    the permission manually.
Project site in 2010 has some issue and not full filling customer need some time ,Ms has came up with 2013 which is having tight integration with project sites .
Project workspace security groups are equal to the SharePoint Server 2010 security groups.
    Web Administrator equals Full Control
    Project Managers equals Design
    Team members equals Contribute
    Readers equals Read
    Users who have Manage
SharePoint Foundation permission in Project Web App and are contributors to the project workspace site, meaning that they can
create and edit documents, issues, and risks will get access to Web Administrator (Microsoft Project Server)

  • I want to setup a Disaster Recovery Server for Sharepoint Server 2010

There are four production server running sharepoint server 2010 and one SQL server for
    ContentDB management.

DR depends upon your backup stratgies, i.e
    1) if you taking full backup of sharepoint using SharePoint tool
    2) If you taking just SQL backup( Content DB and Services DB).
    3) using the 3rd party tool for backup and recovery.
apart from above, you also have make a decision what point of time you want recovery.
from your questions, what i think for you.
Setup new farm with same SharePoint level.same customization, same services configuration, and same number of web apps.
then backup from Prod server( SQL content DBs) and then restore into new farm and mount them.
this is one time thing, Now you have to make decision, how data move from Prod to QA( i mean frequency i.e daily, monthly etc).

  • Embed a video on file server in SharePoint

I have video file on file server, they are very large. I cannot upload those videos in SharePoint Library. Is it possible to embed videos on file server in SharePoint Media Web Part? If yes how can I do it?

That particular web part takes a number of formats and then displays them using Silverlight.  I can't recall if it modifies the actual file or clones iot and then modifies that.  The advantge to this is a lower footprint for SharePoint to deal
with. (Accepted formats for the web part are here).
What formats and file size are you working with too?  You might have a few more options, such as: -
    Re-encoding to a different format

  • SQL Server for SharePoint farm

    Hi All,
As per the best practice to setup the farm, SQL Server shouldn't be a physical machine instead of Virtual. I am wondering what is the reason behind it?
If we do setup the farm in Azure then will it be ok to use the VM for SQL Server since SharePoint doesn't support Azure SQL Server?
    Regards Restless Spirit

Generally, for On-Premise, many organizations do not support or allow IT departments to virtualize database servers. This policy is typical in organizations that have dedicated database teams that tightly manage and maintain SQL Server. In these controlled
deployments, the database team has to create all databases. Virtualizing SQL Server is not an option
In Azure IASS, SQL VMs are supported

  • Microsoft Project Server for SharePoint Standard

    Hi,
We are using Microsoft SharePoint Standard version. Which product in Microsoft family should we add on to get the full capabilities of Microsoft Project into SharePoint Standard version? Is it Microsoft Project server? But Microsoft Project Server has a
    prerequisite of SharePoint Server.
    Any ideas?

From a licensing perspective to run Project Server you require SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise edition. A user (or device) that is using Project server would therefore require all the following CALs:
    SharePoint Server Standard
    SharePoint Server Enterprise

  • From File Server to SharePoint

    Hi,
I would like to move all the files in several folders on a fileserver and put them on sharepoint.
The files in the fileserver are organized in several folders and subfolders (quite deep) and the security is controled via user Group membership (AD Groups).
What guidelines should I follow to do this "migration" and to have eficient (and security trimmed) search functionalities?
    Many thanks,
    DD

    Why?
A file server and SharePoint are very different products and answering the question about why will have a bearing on not only what you move, but how you end up planning to move it and what the destination structure might look like and decisions around both
information architecture and information management.  Answering questions on Disposition or Retention  of files in the file server for example might lead you to consider Records management features of SharePoint, routing rules and audit policies.
If all you want to do is dump files into SharePoint then you can just open a library in Explorer view and dump the files or do it via powershell:

    Hi
From your description, I know you get an error when you want to open a sub-site in your SharePoint 2010.
I am not quite sure that you have made some changes on the sub-site with SharePoint Designer, but your issue seems like you miss the target prefix. Please confirm that did you make some changes on the sub-site with SharePoint Designer.

  • Automount Sharepoints via Connect to Server...

I have a number of sharepoints assigned to different users and groups....freelancers only have access to certain folders but managers have access to everything.
They are working on local accounts at the client machines which are not connected in any way to the server. They connect to the sharepoints via 'connect to server' in the 'go' menu. Is there any way of automounting chosen sharepoints without viewing a huge list of all of the sharepoints available?
I don't want users to have to log into their account on the local machines...
