Server Bandwidth Limitations

My company is about to launch an online teaching product allowing users to use a webcam to record themselves giving a presentation.  That presentation can then be submitted to a supervisor to review and comment on.  While making their recordings, users can record multiple attempts and review each immediately after stopping the recording.  All of this is being done with a browser based Flash application connecting to an instance of FMS 3.5.
All of this is working well.  However, we recently found out that due to some of our other products, we are getting hammered with fees based on the amount of bandwidth we are using in our data center.  We have made some alterations to curtail these problems, but we are concerned that this new product is going to push us over the edge again.  Our original plan was to keep the video stream right around 115 kbps, a relatively low data rate.  But when thinking about the expected concurrent users, the bandwidth starts to stack up and really spike.
So we are now looking for ways to limit the bandwidth that this new product will use.  One idea was to figure out how to record the video locally when users where recording their test presentations.  I thought that was now possible, but apparently that is not yet the case with the Flash Player.
Another idea was to limit the bandwidth that is allocated to each user that connects to our FMS.  We are hoping to address the spiking issue with this limitation.  I am, however, concerned about what will happen to a video stream that is getting squeezed on the server site.  I know when users have limited bandwidth, video files that are published to the FMS are compromised (poor quality).  But what happens when the bandwidth is limited on the server side?  Do the same things happen to the published video file?  Or can the server somehow queue up the data coming in and deal with it in full when it finally gets to it.  My guess is that this is not the case, but was curious what others though.
If you have any other ideas on how to work around our bandwidth issues, I'd be more than happy to hear your thoughts.
Thanks!

Are you presentations only Video/Audio? If yes, then you can use FMLE to record Video/Audio locally using "Save to File" option of FMLE. User can they play it back using any playback client to check whether he is happy with the presentation. Once he is final on his presentation, he can upload it to server ( you will have to figure this out , how do you want to upload, ask user to ftp or use some other mechanism - that out of FMS anyways)
If you want to try out FMLE , you can get it here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/flashmediaencoder/

  • Flash Media Server Bandwidth Limitations

Is there anyway to utilise the bandwidth of the flash media server from the server side in such a way so that the streaming will happen from the flash media server to the user based on the user internet connection speed. So users with low bandwidth will receive less streaming data in their buffer and users with high bandwidth will receive more streaming data into their buffer from the server.

Perhaps i didnt get your qeustion properly. users at lower bandwidth are forced to receive less data per second compared to the users who are at higher bandwidth who will be receiving more data. Do you want to perform dynamic streaming, where in you setup same stream in multiple bitrate and then choose to stream to the clients based on their bandwidth conditions? Like low bandwidth user will receive lower bitrate stream and high bandwidth user will receive higher bit rate stream.
Let me know if this is not what you are talking about.

  • Oracle HTTP Server download bandwidth limited on Windows 2003 Server

    Hi,
we have an ApEx application with the following configuration on the server:
    OS: Windows 2003 Server 64Bit
    DB: 10.2.0.3 64bit
HTTP Server: the one that comes on the companion CD of Oracle DB 10g 32 bit
and after the bandwidth in the datacenter where the server resides was increased, I discovered a problem related to the server download bandwidth. I found on Metalink a Note [568075.1 - HTTP Server File Download Speed Is Slow |https://metalink2.oracle.com/metalink/plsql/ml2_documents.showDocument?p_database_id=NOT&p_id=568075.1] , but unfortunately not a very clear resolution given the fact that we use Oracle DB SEOne, so options 1 & 2 will involve additional licenses costs.
I tried option 3 suggested in the note by using the HTTP Server that comes with 11g (I assume this is a supported configuration also from licenses point of view HTTP Server from 11g on top of Oracle DB 10g) and I got a boost in performance but the bandwidth is still 70% compared to the bandwidth I get when downloading from the IIS on the same server.
Has anyone went through this exercise and found a solution for fully using the server bandwidth without needing to go for option 4 in the note, using Linux :), as in our case this will involve again additional licenses and/or hardware costs as the HTTP Server that comes with the DB has to be installed on the machine where the DB is installed?
    Thanks in advance,
    Florin

Ooops ... things like this happen with Oracle Support, no answer?
Can you tell me anyway the SR number or the SR title so that I can write it in the SR I make? Like that maybe Oracle Support will work harder on the case, as there are more customers hitting the same problem.
Anyway in the meanwhile, I run some tests with the original Apache and this one works like a charm even in Windows 2003 Server. What remains now to be done is to use the Open Source Apache as proxy to the HTTP Server, as it looks like it handles much better the static content, it supports also mod_gzip or mod_deflate, but does not support mod_plsql :(. So I think the combination of the two: will do the work for me, but it is really a pity that I have to configure 2 web servers because the HTTP Server has flaws in it :(. Hopefully these will be fixed soon

  • Server side limitations

    Hello,
are there any server side limitations from acrobat.com, i
    mean regarding the bandwidth etc??

    Hi e-spec1,
The commercial edition of Cocomo won't have any account
limits (beyond some sanity limits to make sure you can't impinge on
    service quality).
A few notes on this kind of structure, and possibilities :
For your app, your customers will be doing business with you
(obviously), as a "service provider" - your customers will have
accounts with you, not Adobe, and your role will be in consuming
Cocomo services and packaging them up in your app for your
customers. So it's likely (and here, we're stepping into
conjecture, but I'd like to float the idea and see your reaction)
that in this case that you, as the provider of your app, only have
1 account with Adobe, and use that one account to build rooms for
all your various customers. You'd pay (in some way) for utilization
on that account, and pass the costs on in the price of your app to
    your customers.
hope that made any sense - again, this is a discussion we're
eager to have with all of you - feedback welcome!
    thanks

  • Why there is a bandwidth limitations in serial ports

    hi all
why there is a bandwidth limitations in serial ports ??
like the highest one is 45 mbps
but Ethernet ports reach 100 GB !!
    thanks,

    Dear,
each standard has its own specification about media, connectors and protocols. Depending on the type of media and technologies that ware available when the standard has been defined, a maximum speed has also been defined.  The speed depends on the specific media (copper or optical, twisted pair or coax, cat 5 or cat 6), electrical signals (volts, waveform, clock), distance  between device,.... each protocol defines a maximum speed.  It's true that ethernet protocols have a very high speed but over a copper line they are also limited to 100 meters while other serial protocols, xDSL for example, can transmit up to 20Mbps over copper line over a distance of some kilometre. So speed reduction is often a way to have longer connections.

  • Bandwidth limiting with 2504 WLR and 3602E AP

    Hello,
My QA team needs to test number of special connectivity scenarios where their wireless connection has a limited bandwidth.
Ideally, I would like to provide them number of SSIDs each of which has different bandwidth limitation.
But so far I did not find a way to apply any bandwidth limitations to my 2504 Wireless controller and the 3602E AP.
QoS has only 4 pre-defined modes which can't be set to a specific limit...
Any help/advise would be highly appreciated!
    Thank you,
    Mark.

Didnt realize this was not on the 5508, +5 Scott.
I guess the next best option is to ACL/QOS on the wired side for that subnet in question.

  • "bufferbloat", Airport Extreme, and bandwidth limiting?

I have a somewhat complex network setup at home.  I have a Cable connection with 20Mbps down, 2 Mbps up, my own Motorola SB6141 cable modem upstream.  Plugged into that, I have a recent model Airport Extreme (802.11ac), and an older Airport Extreme set up with a roaming network.  The primary clients are recent vintage macbooks, iOS devices, with a smattering of other connected devices (DVR, windows, Synology NAS, etc.
The problem that I'm running into is that network connectivity has lots of issues  if I run a large upload that saturates the outbound connection, e.g. with Dropbox or another online backup tool like Arq.  When that happens, inbound traffic gets super spotty, and things like Netflix become unusable.  peer-to-peer within the network continues to work fine.
As near as I can tell, these are the classic symptoms of "bufferbloat" and from what I've read, the solution to the problem would be to introduce an outbound bandwidth limit (say at 1.98 Mbps) at the first outbound bottleneck, in this case, at the Airport Extreme (ac) connected to the cable modem.
Is there any way to do this?  I couldn't find any kind of bandwidth limitation mechanism in the Airport Utility.

Is there any way to do this?
Sorry, but no. The AirPorts are all very simple, bare bones routers with a minimum of functionality.

  • SAP Content Server Size Limitations

    Hi,
Has SAP Content Server any limitations regarding the amount of information to be stored ?.
We have a 160 Gb/ year data to be stored and we doubt to use the SAP content Server or some other content server ( IXOS, Documetum ... ).

  • 2950 or 2060 bandwidth limiting egress and ingress per port

I am providing an MTU bandwidth and needing a switch that I can set bandwidth limits for each customer. Each customer will have their own port on the switch. Will the Enhanced image 2950 or 2960 limit on egress as well?

Neither switch supports egress policers. Ingress policers can be configured on the 2960 & the 2950 as long as you have the EI-capable hardware. This is the same for the newer switches - 2960, 2970, 3560 & 3750. The 3550 does allowed egress policers but this is EOS now I think?

  • Is there Bandwidth limitation using IPSec ?

We have an office in Asia which is connected to our New York location using l2l IPSec through the internet. They claim that they have guaranteed bandwidth of 2MB with their local ISP. They are using MRTG apllication to monitor the bandwith and it is reporting that only 512K is being utilized on the link. They think it is something with the firewall or it is because of the IPSec. We have the IPSec interface set to auto negotiation and the interface stats does not seem to be anything out of the ordinary. What could it be ?

It could be the application. The latency between Asia and New York might be to high to let the TCP frame size
ramp up.Try putting some sort of WAN killer behind it and see what your true non-application restricted throughput is.
To your original question. No, there is no bandwidth limitation in IPSEC. Only hardware limitations of the crypto engin, but that only applies when you get into much higher BW numbers. (Unless you have a 2611 which  does under 1M of 3DES throughput.)
Another thing your may want to consider is the MTU of the link. Try setting the MTU down to 1360 on the incoming interfaces or  ip tcp adjust-mss 1360. This will prevent the applications from over ramping the TCP windows.

  • NI 5102 bandwidth limitation?

I have been using NI5102 cards for many years but the other day something strange happened. Channel 0 on one card suddenly acquired a low-pass filter with cut-off around 10 kHz. Quite similar to bandwidth limitation on an oscilloscope. The other channel was perfectly normal. We exchanged NI5102's between two computers and the problem followed the card. Have no idea what this is, it seems too well behaved to be a card hardware error.

    Hello!
The only possible reason I can think of is that your 5102 digitizer is damaged somehow, since the behavior you are experiencing with the board applies to one channel only and is not depending on the computer it is mounted in. I could not find any similar problem description either and I doubt that you have bandwidth problems considering the 15MHz bandwidth on the board, the onboard sample memory and such.
Have you another 5102 board so you can test and see if you encounter the same problem?
If you would like to repair the board contact National Instruments in Sweden and they will be able to help you.

  • 3750 bandwidth limitation between the same vlan over the trunk

    Hi All,
I have 2 3750G series switches on the trunk link. some machines are part of vlan1 on the switch 1 and some machines are the part of the same vlan1 on the other switch2. I need to limit the bandwidth between the switches for the vlan1. picture is attached.
I tried to do through the modulare policy frame work (class-map/service-map and policy-map using the police command) but problems are
    1) 3750 does not support output service policy, so i cannot apply the policy on the output of the trunk link.
    2) I can apply the input policy but it will be only for one machine but not for the others on the same switch. if i apply the policy on per port basis then every port has separate bw limitation. I require to limit the bandwidth on per vlan basis on the trunk port. like vlan 1 takes 10 MB, VLAN2 takes 10 MB on the trunk link when communicating between the same vlans.
Is there any solution for that scenario? your help in this case will be higly appriciated. As its the layer 2 communication, its hard for me to find the solution. if it was layer 3 then i can do it easily by using the rate-limit commmand on the interface.
    thanks

On the 4500 series we use vlan-range for this,
    conf t
    qos aggregate-policer 10MB 10 mbps 1250000 byte conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
    policy-map 10MB
    class class-default
    police aggregate 10MB
    interface GigabitEthernet1/1
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk allowed vlan 1,10,12,15
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport nonegotiate
    vlan-range 1
    service-policy input 10MB
    service-policy output 10MB
    end
dunno if the 3750's have the same options

  • Apache Web Server Connection Limitations

    Hello,
Does anyone know what is the simultaneous connections limitations that the build in web server on Mac OS 10.4 has? I'm assuming if I would use OS X server there wouldn't be any? Thanks for any responses.
    G5 Quad / PowerBook G4 17' 1.67ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

So the build in Web Server that comes with the retail version of Tiger doesn't limit the amount of connections? I think I read in another posting that it was 10.
By default the apache config show 150. AFAIK the 10 limit is to afp connections not web connections.
It is easy enough to test turn on web sharing and ask 11 of your friends to connect to it.

If i delete the stream files and 'reload this application', then the stream runs for a period, actually until it has ~120mbytes in the streams folder.

The documentation seems to indicate that Starter edition should be unlimited in time of streaming, just limited by number of cllients, as long as you are not protecting the streams, then limited to 30 minutes.
I have checked quoteas in Windows and they are disabled.
Can someone confirm that I should, in starter, be able to continually stream 24/7, and if so give some hint as to what I may have to change to do this?
At the end of the day, all i need to do here is simulate a customer environment for integration effort in players....
    Simon

    Hi Simon
The HTTP (HDS and HLS) streaming and recording limit in Adobe Media Server 5 Starter is 10 min. You'll need to buy a serial key if you want to record/stream for longer. Also there are no limit on number of clients for HTTP.
    Hope this helps.
