Server becomes unreachable

Hi,
I installed vsftp, apache, php, and mysql on a laptop to play around with as a server. The problem is that the server becomes unreachable after a certain period of time, even if I am connected to it. When I am connected to it, it happens more often than when not.
I believe it is going into some sort of sleep mode because the problem is resolved after I hit the power button on it. The weird thing is that it does not turn off, i can hear the cooling fan when it is unreachable. I had a similar problem with a debian server which was caused by acpid, the solution was to uninstall acpid but the current computer doesn't have acpid or any other power manager utility installed.
The server is connected directly to the router and I am accessing it over LAN. I don't believe it to be a firewall issue.
Maybe the interface is being put to sleep somehow after a certain period of time?
I have searched the forum and googled for the last 2 days, haven't found a similar problem.
Any help is appreciated.
Regards,
croivzeba
EDIT: Forgot to mention I did not install any DE or WM.

It can't be a BIOS issue because only the basic settings are available.
Lately it has not become inactive during transfers but it did become unresponsive some time when I was not home. I will check the logs in the morning to see how often I have rebooted.

  • WebLogic server becomes unavailable via t3

    Hi all,
we observe a strange phenomenon while running a WebLogic server (WLS 5.1 SP9 on
Solaris, httpd disabled). It happens that the server becomes unavailable via t3
for any client (application client, WebLogic console, weblogic.Admin; ->Communication
exception ) after running some hours under load.
There are no obvious problems or exceptions before the server enters this state.
The only way to end this staet of WebLogic is to kill it.
Has somebody an idea what's the reason for this?
    Thanks,
    Dieter

Have you taken a thread dump when the server is in this state to try to figure out what
it is doing? If you need help interpreting the dump, please post it here.
    Hope this helps,
    Robert

  • Cisco ISE - Reauthentication of client if server becomes alive again

    Dears,
I have this case where Cisco ISE server is used to authenticate & authorize clients on the network.
I configured the switch port to authorize the client in case the ISE server is dead (or not reachable).
The thing is that I want to reauthenticate the client once the ISE server becomes alive again but I am not able to.. ("Additional Information is needed to connect to this network" bullet is not appearing and the client PC remains authenticated and assigned to the VLAN.
Below is the switch port configuration:
    interface FastEthernet0/5
    switchport access vlan 240
    switchport mode access
    switchport voice vlan 156
authentication event server dead action authorize vlan 240
authentication event server alive action reinitialize
    authentication host-mode multi-domain
    authentication order dot1x mab
    authentication priority mab
    authentication port-control auto
    mab
    dot1x pae authenticator
    spanning-tree portfast
    Anyone can help?
    Regards,

Please check whether the switch is dropping the connection or the server.
    Symptoms or Issue
802.1X and MAB authentication and authorization are successful, but the switch is dropping active sessions and the epm session summary command does not display any active sessions.
    Conditions
This applies to user sessions that have logged in successfully and are then being terminated by the switch.
    Possible Causes
•The preauthentication ACL (and the subsequent DACL enforcement from Cisco ISE) on the NAD may not be configured correctly for that session.
•The preauthentication ACL is configured and the DACL is downloaded from Cisco ISE, but the switch brings the session down.
•Cisco ISE may be enforcing a preposture VLAN assignment rather than the (correct) postposture VLAN, which can also bring down the session.
    Resolution
•Ensure the Cisco IOS release on the switch is equal to or more recent than Cisco IOS Release 12.2.(53)SE.
•Check to see whether or not the DACL name in Cisco ISE contains a blank space (possibly around or near a hyphen "-"). There should be no space in the DACL name. Then ensure that the DACL syntax is correct and that it contains no extra spaces.
•Ensure that the following configuration exists on the switch to interpret the DACL properly (if not enabled, the switch may terminate the session):
    radius-server attribute 6 on-for-login-auth
    radius-server attribute 8 include-in-access-req
    radius-server attribute 25 access-request include
    radius-server vsa send accounting
    radius-server vsa send authentication

Which is the main causes to server slow down???.....How to solve this problem????

The first message seems to indicate that a connection was made on the socket but closed prematurely. I get this often on my Tomcat installation when our corporate virus scanners kick in, probing network ports. I wouldn't worry about that one.
The second one is indicating a deadlock on your database. I would say that your problem lies there.

  • DTR Server  is unreachable.

    Hi,
I am not able to login in NWDS in the track created in the DTr or DC perpective.I am getting the error as:
    DTR Server  is unreachable.
    Please suggest.Its urgent.
    Regards,
    Rajani

if you run http://<server>:<port>/ if that does not give a web page then thats a fair indication your system is either still starting or is in trouble. As NWDI takes a couple of minutesmax to start the applications (as opposed to a portal)  then I would expect a return on this fairly soon after startup.
It may be that the URL/Port is wrong or there are connection issues.
You can use the stand alone log viewer or the log viewer in visual administrator to look at the dtr logs and the default.trc logs also for issues but a restart first is always good.

  • Macromedia application server is unreachable

Hi, we are running a virtual server (p2v) copy of our
    production and dev CF6MX sites.
The virtual copy of the dev server, works fine.
However, in production we are getting the dreaded "Macromedia
application server is unreachable or it does not have a mapping to
process this request" server error. Our prod server was installed
differently as it was originally intended to be a load-balanced
server so the services in prod have "Macromedia" in their names,
    not in dev.
I've re-booted the server, restarted IIS, ran the
bin/jrun.exe utility, and am still getting the error. The jrun
utility yielded this message: "warning Could not find valid
replication peer- assuming this server is first server running in
replication group." I'm not sure if this is a show-stopper or not.
I also looked at the server log and nothing looked awry.
Any other ideas ? I've checked the forum here, and someone
posted a link for this, but the link was dead...

"warning Could not find valid replication peer-assuming htis
server is first server running in replication group" is telling you
this is the first instance to start up. Not a big deal (unless
you're expecting other instances to be there already or this wasn't
the first instance you expected to start).
If you changed the name of the server or IP addresses during
your p-to-v process then the xml files may be trying to contact the
    wrong IP addresses.
When I get the application server is unreachable error, a
quick iisreset or restarting the World Wide Web Publishing service
will fix it. Sometimes a race condition happens and IIS and JRun
seem to grab the connector at the same time and that error ends up
    showing up.

  • Agent becoming unreachable frequently

    Hi,
Have noticed that one particular OEM agent becomes unreachable , and the agent status shows that the agent is up and running .
But the data collection status shows that DISABLED BY UPLOAD MANAGER.
From front end it shows that the agent is unreachable and agent is blocked.
Impact on service: status changes to status pending .

Did you check the emoms.log on the OMS host to see why the agent is blocked. try unblocking the agent and also resecure the same.

  • Server becomes unresponsive as the day goes on.

After about 8+ hours our 10.4.8 server becomes un-responsive. I lose ARD connectivity, AFP and SMB shares become unavailable, applications take a really long time to open, either the black arrow in the dock pulses or the app beachballs. When I view the activity viewer nothing is consuming excess memory or ram, CPU usage stays below 5%.
After a restart all is fine again, very fast and snappy. As the day goes on though, same story.
What can I do to resolve and diagnose this issue?

not a worry here ... running 10.4.8 Universal binary with WWW DHCP IPFW NAT AFP and FTP running ... system load on uptime shows up at 13.20hours load average of 6 percent.. which deamons services are running on the machines ? May be SMB is acting up ...
I run ARD and other remotes on these sytems and all i can say is snappy. A possibility is that something might be hanging your system such as a kernel extension acting up , i guess all of you ran repair privileges after updating , just in case.
May be a fix on Macpro's i have been having trouble with Contextual Menus from our dear pal Stuffit a long time ago all i did at that time was dump the CM extensions trash them and repair privileges after reboot. You can diagnose this easily by creating another user somewhere on your machine logging in and see if the un responsiveness of your applications still occurs.

  • WRT54GS wireless connection becomes unreachable every 3-6 minutes

I just got signed up with COMCAST (TV, Internet, and VOIP). The Linksys WRT54GS is connected to the COMCAST Internet-VOIP box. Everything is working fine except the wireless. I bought the Linksys WRT54GS and when I run "ping 192.168.1.1 -t" from my latop via the wireless the connection becomes unreachable every 3-6 minutes. When I "refresh the list" from the laptop the connection is working. The wireless is using WEP security, the strength during the test is 3-4 bars. The problem has been seen in the same room (7 ft away) with 5 bars. I've not yet contacted COMCAST because at this time my thoughts are that I've misconfigured the Linksys. Allen

    Allen:
If you purchased the router elsewhere, save the call to Comcast. They won't help you.
Try changing to different channels in the router. There may be interference in your area that causes the drop. I would point out that a dropped ping occasionally is normal, although when it negatively impacts your ability to stay connected, you'll want to find the issue.
The default channel on the router is 11 I think. Try going through all the channels from 1 on up and running each one for a period of time. Your wireless card doesn't need any changes made; it should reset itself to the new channel within a few seconds.

    All,
Ive got an issue here that once i load my code (executable), and it starts up, the NI ftp server becomes unresponsive. All the software on the RealTime is the latest NI RT 2009 software. Im using about 55% CPU and 92% memory on the device.
    Regards,

I would kind of expect that if the CPU usage was really high, but not at 55%.  Have you narrowed it down to this specific piece of code?  Have you built a simple do-nothing application and deployed it to your controller?  And could you expand on "becomes unresponsive", does it work for a while then stop, or is it immediate?

In my search for a solution I've also read that this could be caused by a bad configured DNS server. Therefore I configured my /etc/nsswitch.conf file to contain only the property files under the parameter hosts.
Following is an extraction of my /etc/hosts file:
