Server becomes unresponsive as the day goes on.

After about 8+ hours our 10.4.8 server becomes un-responsive. I lose ARD connectivity, AFP and SMB shares become unavailable, applications take a really long time to open, either the black arrow in the dock pulses or the app beachballs. When I view the activity viewer nothing is consuming excess memory or ram, CPU usage stays below 5%.
After a restart all is fine again, very fast and snappy. As the day goes on though, same story.
What can I do to resolve and diagnose this issue?

not a worry here ... running 10.4.8 Universal binary with WWW DHCP IPFW NAT AFP and FTP running ... system load on uptime shows up at 13.20hours load average of 6 percent.. which deamons services are running on the machines ? May be SMB is acting up ...
I run ARD and other remotes on these sytems and all i can say is snappy. A possibility is that something might be hanging your system such as a kernel extension acting up , i guess all of you ran repair privileges after updating , just in case.
May be a fix on Macpro's i have been having trouble with Contextual Menus from our dear pal Stuffit a long time ago all i did at that time was dump the CM extensions trash them and repair privileges after reboot. You can diagnose this easily by creating another user somewhere on your machine logging in and see if the un responsiveness of your applications still occurs.

Ive got an issue here that once i load my code (executable), and it starts up, the NI ftp server becomes unresponsive. All the software on the RealTime is the latest NI RT 2009 software. Im using about 55% CPU and 92% memory on the device.

I would kind of expect that if the CPU usage was really high, but not at 55%. Have you narrowed it down to this specific piece of code? Have you built a simple do-nothing application and deployed it to your controller? And could you expand on "becomes unresponsive", does it work for a while then stop, or is it immediate?

Firefox keeps getting slower and slower as the day goes on

It's exactly as the title suggests - it works fine first thing in the morning, then gradually gets slower as the day goes on. Last night, for example, I couldn't get on any sites for love nor money - all it kept saying was 'transferring to...' 'loading...' whatever site I was going on, YouTube videos keep freezing etc (I have to keep pausing and waiting for the little grey bar to extend a little; such a trivial thing, yet so annoying! I also unchecked the 'Use hardware acceleration where possible' thing in 'Options', to no avail).
I've done all the usual tests (scan, virus checks etc), all of which have come back perfectly clear. I used Internet Explorer, yet that works perfectly OK, aside from a little slowness in getting a page to load, but I think I'm using a rather dated version of IE (I got my computer September 2012, and this version of IE was already installed on there!), so maybe that's to blame.
I've reset Firefox, to no avail. It's getting on my nerves!! The YouTube part of my problem only started Wednesday night, and the slowness of Firefox started yesterday. As bizarre as it may seem, may the weather be causing the Internet to go slow, as it is unbelievably hot and humid here in the UK at the moment! I remember my Mum saying she had the same problem around this time last year when it was boiling hot!
Any help is greatly appreciated.

"Firefox can't find the server" extende periods of the day on my WIFI and slow at the same time on my AT&T G3.

Back in late August, I began having intermittant problems loging onto my websites. primarily Sunday and Monday nights almost always down. Now I am having more trouble and at more different times. However there are periods of time during the day when I have no trouble at all.
I have also noticed that somewhere in the mix I lost my Google toolbar and only have a Yahoo tool bar. I have looked in the place where the bars are activated and Google is completely gone. Why? I do not like the Yahoo bar and it does not have a go back feature for one thing.

Perhaps I should be clearer. I clicked on your offered link, the one in blue that said " http//:www.hanovernh. (etc.) Your choice of giving me the link within the googled site was the perfect test. You were able to get into that site; I cannot. This is a site that 2 and 3 weeks ago I was able to contact. But starting about a week and a half ago, I couldn't.
I tried Firefox Help but after filling out the appropriate page with the problem, there was a connectivity problem preventing Help from seeing it.
I'll try more sites to get a broader picture of the problem. As of now, I know there are other "Server Not Found" sites. I'll look for a pattern.

Firefox 6.0.1 runs OK on start up but as the day goes by gets slower and slower.

Running Windows XP on Toshiba Equim A110. Since upgrading to Firefox 6.0.1, Firefox has been very frustrating to use. As the day progresses after booting up, Firefox becomes increasingly slow. For exmple opening a new tab can take 80 secs. Shutting down Firefox at the end of the day can take many minutes.

Did a clean install but still find imac slows significantly as the day goes on. first projects go pretty well. later

From the sounds of your problem is sounds like you are approaching a full disk.

Itunes becomes unresponsive when connecting iphone/going into preference

When I open Itunes it works fine, but it becomes completely unresponsive (doesn't crash, just stuck and does not responds) when I either connect my device (which is recognised by my PC W7 62bit) or when I try to go into preference via the edit tab (same results)
It worked flawless about a month or two ago, I didn't sync since then until this time around. Have not changed anything, and I tried restarting multiply times, waiting a few days, updating, repairing and reinstalling. What can I do?

A preference file may have gone bad for you. (That can produce both sorts of symptoms.)
I'd try a rebuild of the preferences files.
First, quit iTunes if you have it open.
Next, you'll need to make sure you are set up to view hidden files and folders in Vista (or 7).
1. From the Start menu, click Open.
2. In the Organize menu, click Folder and Search Options.
3. Click the View tab.
4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected.
5. Click OK.
Next, you'll rebuild the preference files. We'll do it one at a time, testing connection of devices and trying to go into the preferences after each one.
6. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
7. Open the Users folder.
8. Open the folder with the name of the Vista user account in which Pat is getting the Books tab hang.
9. Open the AppData folder.
10. Open the Local folder.
11. Open the Apple Computer folder.
12. Drag the iTunes folder out onto the Desktop.
Now you'll rebuild the preference folder and file.
13. Launch iTunes. This will cause iTunes to rebuild that preference folder and file. The license agreement will appear for you again. (That is expected behavior when that particular preference folder and contained file are being rebuilt.)
14. Go "Edit > preferences, and check to see if there's a hang
15. Attach the device and check to see if there's a hang.
If there's still a hang, you can replace the "rebuilt" iTunes pref folder with the one on the desktop again. Then we'll try rebuilding the other preference files.
16. In Computer, open Local Disk: C or whichever drive your documents are stored on.
17. Open the Users folder.
18. Open the folder with the name of the Vista user account in which Pat is getting the Books tab hang.
19. Open the AppData folder.
20. Open the Roaming folder.

24. Go "Edit > preferences", and check to see if there's a hang.
25. Attach the device, and check to see if there's a hang.
Any better luck with rebuilding the second set of preferences? (If no joy, the ones on the desktop now can be swapped out for the rebuilt (Roaming) set.

Client certificate authentication fails when the CA list sent by server is big and the list goes in 2 encrypted messages.

I compared packet by packet exchanges in both the browsers. It is same till TLSv1 handshake is done for the ldap certificate authentication. It works fine in IE without any issues though the certificate list is divided into 2 messages.
In case of safari, after the TLSv1 handshake is done successfully, it again sends a SSLv3 'Client Hello' message and initiates the whole handshake process again and the server responds to it too till the handshake is complete. But it brakes after that with the server showing 'Cant establish secure connection' at the browser.
The issue occurs only in case of MAC safari for big list of CA certs >150(where it crosses the max limit) from server. It is not clear why safari alone is switching from TLSv1 to SSLv3 in this scenario.
NOTE: With shorter list of CA certs at server when it goes in one message, safari works fine and all messages are only TLSv1 and does not repeat the handshake process.

2008 Mac Pro Monitor loses picture, computer becomes unresponsive and the fans run fast.

My early 2008 Mac Pro is dropping the signal to the monitor and the fan on the back begins to run at max speed. I have to do a force shut down and start again. It will then run ok for several hours. This typically happens when it wakes up, I log in and begin doing a task. However, it has been known to do this at a random time. This has progressed to a once a day event mostly in the morning after it has been sleeping for several hours.
I pulled the cover when it did it last and pressed the diagnostic button. LED's for the GPU and PWRG did not light.
I am wondering if it is the power supply beginning to fail or if it is the logic board or, is it something else.
Can anyone help with this?

If you want to find out whether a sensor value is within normal limits, please select the menu item Window > Show Overview (or press ⌘+1) and look for the limits in the third and fourth columns of the sensor table. They contain the known official limits Apple has specified for readings acquired at the given sensor locations. If no limit is given in the table, this either means that it does not make sense to specify a limit for this particular sensor (e.g. the battery capacity should not have limits), or Apple hasn't published any specifications for this sensor.
Note that all up-to-date Macintosh models automatically shut down or enter sleep mode if one of the readings exceeds a critical limit. For this reason it is impossible that your computer can be damaged in an overtemperature condition.
For old computers without temperature managment, no limits have been specified by Apple. In this case use the following limits as orientation:
Most older G3 or G4 processors are designed for a maximum operating temperature of 105 degrees Celsius (221 degrees Fahrenheit), measured at the chip die of the CPU.
G4 processors of type 7455 or later (typically used in Macintosh systems with 867 MHz and above) are designed for a maximum operating temperature of 65 degrees Celsius (149 degrees Fahrenheit), also measured at the chip die of the CPU.
Most desktop hard drives are specified for a maximum operating temperature of 55 degrees Celsius (131 degrees Fahrenheit). For exact information, use the Drive Overview window (⌘+8) to get the manufacturer and model code of your hard drive, and then direct your web browser to the manufacturer's web site to download the official data sheet for this drive. The temperature limits are always specified.

And don't forget you can look at the fan speeds (there are several in the Mac Pro) - that sometimes will give you a hint something abnormal is going on if the fans start running a lot.

Server becomes unresponsive

I've a windows 2003 R2 server that the last few days all of a sudden comes up with unable to log in no resources available to log in via rdp. I can open a console and memory is less than 25% along with low processor 5-15%. looking through the Logs looks
like something is corrupting the registry all of a sudden a hour or so before it shows up. lots of app messages but it never names the app any idea how to do extensive logging or debugging to tell what is causing the issue?

First thing, can you login to the server using the console?

[SOLVED] X Server becomes unresponsive to input after a while

I'm using XFCE 4 without a display manager (just startx) and this is what happens: I launch the terminal and after a few keystrokes the window doesn't accept any more input. Except for an occasional key repeat. After that when I try to drag the window the motherboard just beeps and nothing happens. Although I can drag around the icons in the dock. The window buttons work too.
I had a similar behavior when I tested the X Server with xterm (I just followed the excellent beginner's guide).
I'm using xf86-input-evdev with no X configuration for the keyboard except for the layout.
There are no errors in the Xorg.0.log...
I never experienced such behavior. Maybe someone of you knows what the cause might be and what other info I could provide. Thanks.

I used the computer for a bit longer now and the issue occured again with the new user. I finally replaced the keyboard and it works now. I think the issue was that the old keyboard was faulty (some modifier keys got stuck or something)...
The only way this showed in the tty was that I couldn't type a backslash while holding the modifier key but just hitting 'ß' (german layout) worked.
Anyways thanks for your help and sorry for bothering you because of a stupid hardware fault.

In Windows7 (64bit) Firefox becomes unresponsive and the vertical scroll turns black before the crash.

I have about 30 crashes with the plugins disabled. This usually happens with two to three tabs open.

I'm looking at your information and I'm not finding your Firefox profile particularly healthy... You have a plugin called "My Web Search Plugin Stub for 32-bit Windows" installed. You also have your default search engine set to mywebsearch.com, which is not nearly as good as Google, which leads me to think you didn't really configure these on purpose... Is that correct?

IFolder becomes unresponsive weekly

Hello all,
Running OES2.2-LX (64bit) with iFolder3.8. Every week iFolder becomes unresponsive and the only think I know to do is restart the server. What log file and where do I look when iFolder becomes unresponsive. Does anybody know what would I look for once I get to the log file (error message or something). This is a problem. If I can't figure this out, will have to open an SR.

Here is another update. As of today, 3 Jun my iFolder3 server is working great. I made the change as G.G. recommended from the last post and it seems to work fine. It is still an OES2.2-lx-64 server.

Log says that at 11 it was restarted, btw until there is any request from clients or other servers you would not see any further logs even if its started.
You could also use pkill to kill mono process, just to rule out any other issue is causing the server unresponsive.

Armed with some knowledge from Willem and GG here are some snippets from 3 log files: iFolder stopped around 1300 (1pm). I had to restart it at around 1335 or so. I notice some curious things going on around this time.
1) Segfault at 12:42 from the var/log/message file
2) At 1100 the database is being shut down from the Simias log file. But I don't see anywhere that the database is coming back up. Also, in this same log file 11:00:09 is the last entry until 13:33. Probably when I restarted the server.
3) From the Simias.Access log file 10:59:56 is the last success entry then nothing til 13:47:13.
4) Timing of this is much more than just pure luck. Something is going on.
