Server crashes during Networker Incremental/Full back-ups

I could not find anything under the syslogs to point to what caused my server to core dump. We do late night incremental backups and each morning I come in, my server is hung. I see a list of core dump messages for each process, i.e. inetd, automountd. When I do a STOP + a, I get the OK prompt, type boot.....every thing boots up again but sometimes I get the "FIFO exists" and file systems in / or /usr or /var are read-only.
How can i best find the reason and solution to this mystery problem? Thanks

Hi
Please check up the syslog.conf for the log path. When your system hung and when you are doing a stop + a in Ok prompt type sync,it will create a core dump and reboots. What tool you are using to do the backup.if you are using the ufsdump check out the log messages which will give you where you have a problem. With ufsdump you cannot take a online backup of your filesystem. If you need a online backup then you have to take a filesystem snapshot and mount the snapshot and take a backup of the snapshot.

  • Server crash during access addressbook

    Hello,
the server crashed during an access to address book from from an iPhone or an iPad.
Can anyone help me please with diesem problem?`
    Joerg

Dies ist wahrscheinlich ein anderes problem.
Address book sees widespread use, so crashes are unlikely.
This is probably a disk error, or a memory error, processor error, or a data corruption in an existing system data file or program file, quite possibly related to networking or address book.
Run the hardware diagnostics. I might well try a reinstallation.
If this is a new system and still under original or AppleCare warranty, contact Apple support.

  • Why is Time machine making a few incrementals and then only full back ups?

Is there anybody out there using Time Machine and Time capsule with a laptop? After 3 weeks I am extremely frustrated!
I made an initial full back up and everything went well for a couple of days. Then one day and I think it was after I took my laptop away on my return it started making a full back up again (takes 8 hours to do so). I let it do its thing, thinking it might for some reason not be feeling comfortable with the gap in between or that perhaps it had been at some crucial phase in its backing up and I should perhaps have stopped it making the incremental back up when I took the laptop away. So, after that I tried stopping the back up when I needed to go away. Same result: Next time I open my laptop a full back up starts.
Last Tuesday when I wanted to restore something I discovered it had not made any back up's since Sunday. Only reason I can think off the fact that I had been out of the house most of the time and perhaps hadn't connected to the time capsule long enough for it to do its thing. Yesterday I had a full back up finishing at 12.54pm, then I had incrementals until 5.54 pm and then suddenly (I did not move or close the laptop) at 6.54 it started on a full back up. I stopped that back up at 7.15 because I needed to go somewhere, but started it again at 10.30pm when I got back. I left the laptop open, but this morning it had not got any further than 5. something gb.
I should probably start all over again, but if I don't know what I am doing wrong I can see myself end up in the same pickle again.
On Tuesday I did have another interesting thing happen that may or may not have anything to do with it: I closed my laptop and opened it again and all the settings of anything that is connected through time capsule to the internet had gone as well as the content of my inbox.
    Anybody any ideas?

TM recognizes that the drive is different, so it will want to do a full backup. I believe there may be a workaround listed here:

  • Why my server crash the network?

    Hello to all,
    we have:
    - macpro with SLServer 10.6.2
    - some macbook client with SL 10.6.2 (+ VirtualMachine with Win XP SP4)
    - some PC clients with win XP SP4
    - Airport Extreme manage the network and the VPN
Until server was at 10.6.1 everithing was ok.
After updated to 10.6.2 all Win clients (really and virtualmachine) are disapparead from network list and the win PC are unable to open the network places.
All other services (file sharing, imap...) running fine but we are unable to join any PC in the network.
If I turn off the server, all PC appear again in the network list and everithing is ok. If I turn on the server, they disappear again...
    someone have the same experience?
Do you think I need to reinstall 10.6.1?
I'm going to Mac because I detest all win problems, but I'm not so happy!!!
    best regards,
    Marco

I'd guess you have a business or an application to run here, and could infer you're not currently in a position to troubleshoot this case. This based on the relative lack of details around the symptoms and the current configuration, and around the "crash the network" phrasing. Given you have other tasks and skills here, this usually then means calling in somebody to have a look at the local (and malfunctioning) configuration. Few folks around are IP geeks, after all; it's a pretty weird topic area, and one that touches on a great many areas of expertise.
Mac OS X Server is easier to install and manage than most any other server operating system I've encountered, but running servers still requires knowledge of the individual servers and of networking, or some sort of a support channel or support resource, or a willingness to learn these topic areas from the manuals and the web sites and/or classroom training. Your choice here depends on your budget and on where you want to spend your time.
While re-installing and downgrading might resolve this issue, it doesn't strike me as the best investment of time, and (depending on what happened here) it might not fix the problem.

  • Where is memory.dmp if server crash during upgrade?

I am updating a server from 2008r2 to 2012, but server keeps crash during upgrade.
I am trying to dig into memory dump and core dump. It usually locate at \windows\memory.dmp if server crash.
Where does the file locate during upgrade?

    Hi,
Based on my experience, the memory dump file will be created by the operating system in its own folder in the MEMORY.DMP
file by default. Windows keeps a list of all the small memory dump files in the %SystemRoot%\Minidump folder if you have choose the “small memory dump” option in the Startup and Recovery page. Of course, you can change the folder location for the memory dump
    files.
If you can access to the page of
Startup and Recovery, you can view the location of the memory dump file.

  • Server Crashes during GC/very high request rate?

We have lately seen our production server crash with the same error code (47433441534B3448524541440E435050002F). We are not sure exactly what this error means excepting that we see a high load on the server (~ 30 Http requests). I don't think this is a huge number at all. Has anyone seen this before? any help is appreciated.

No crash reports have ben submitted as I was not able to get back to my desktop without re booting my PC as I was in full screen mode and Alt-Tab allowed me to tab through open applications they did not actually switch to the fore ground leaving me with the cideo paused at the point Firefox crashed.
I was able to see the firefox has crashed window whilst Alt-Tabbing but not able to switch to it.
I was watching this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=05x1Jk4rT1A youtube video in full screen mode. when firefox crashed.
I have been experiencing this a lot on my old Ubuntu installation but put it down to possible conflicts with other installed software or installed plugins. In fact I got so frustrated with this that I switched to using Google Chrome which had no issues like this whatsoever.
However I thought I would give Firefox another go on a fresh installation to see if anything had improved.
I have read many posts and seen plenty of reports of this issue but sadly no solutions go back through lots of versions of Firefox.
I'm using the default open source video drivers.
I'm going to go back to using Google Chrome as it is far more sxtable so there is no urgency to resolving this issue but maybe you can find some solution to this seemingly common problem as I have a bit of a soft spot for Firefox and am kinda sad that this issue still exists after all this time.
I am happy to try things out if it is of any help

    Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
    Then perform these steps:
*Click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
*In the Firefox options window click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select "General".
*In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
*Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
    * [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
    * [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
    Thank you.

  • Server crashed - how to use the back up

What are the options if any server get crashed and we have that server's backup (Database backup)?
how can I use that backup?
I created a instance with same sysid in another server and restored the database with the database back up of crashed server.
It was restored successfully but dispatcher is not getting started.
is it a right way to use backup, if yes what am I doing wrong.
if now what is other option.
our operating system is Windows server 2003 and database is SQL 2005
    Would appreciate your advice
    Thanks

  • Server crashing during fetch

    Tux 7.1 vs. Oracle 8.1.5.
I've got a parameterized query that sometimes returns records, others
    doesn't.
For the first 3 queries it runs fine, returning no rows.
The 4th query successfully returns 5 rows.
The 5th query, which should return no rows, it successfully sets the
    parameters and opens,
but it hangs during the fetch for 30 secs or so, then the server cores with
    no other error message given.
I've tried setting the debug flag in the XA_OPEN string higher to give me
more information on the oracle side, but I'm getting nothing, and I've tried
going from using a straight parameterized query that is prepared once while
just changing the parameters in the OPEN..USING clause, to using a static
char buffer to format the query in a separate function and sprintf ing the
query each time, makes no difference.
    Any ideas?
    tia

    Thanks for your reply John.
My Premiere Pro is CS5.5 on Windows OS with all the recent updates installed.
My source footage is H.264 in a .mov/QuickTime format.
There were no error message(s) before the crashing. The computer just crashes after a few minutes of exporting. My output codec is also H.264 in a QuickTime movie format.
No other software is running at the time. Also, no third party codecs have been installed.
I'm not sure what type of engine I use. Kindly direct me to where I can find this information.
The problem has only happened with my final output.
    Thanks Again.

  • My computer crashed and I have no back ups of the songs!

My computer crashed, I have no back-up, no CD copys and no IPod they are stored on. is there any way for me to get iTunes to allow me to redownload them or what?
I don't want to rebuy $150-$200 worth of songs I have already paid for.

If you didn't make a back-up of your purchases to restore from then I'm sorry to say that the policy on lost purchases is that you have to pay to download them again:
"Once a Product is purchased and you receive the Product, it is your responsibility not to lose, destroy, or damage the Product, and Apple shall be without liability to you in the event of any loss, destruction, or damage." iTunes Store: Purchased content can be downloaded only once
You could try contacting the iTunes Music Store Customer Service and you might be able to persuade them to sanction a second free download. There have been occasional reports in the iTunes forum of this happening, however just be aware that they are not under any obligation to do so. If you click on the link at the bottom of this page you'll be able to email your query: iTMS Customer Service

  • Time machine makes too many full back-ups

Yes, this has been written about ad nauseam almost since Time Machine's been around. But I am really tired of going through 3 and 4 TB hard drives because of a Time Machine bug/error/glitch/what-have-you. The latest message (from the Time Machine Buddy widget) is this:
Deep event scan at path:/Volumes/LaCie reason:must scan subdirs|new event db|
Why? Nothing's changed with this drive. Nothing's changed with the Time Machine Drive.
Thanks in advance for intelligent help.
    James

Thanks for the quick reply Eric.
Yeah, I'm certainly aware of these pages. I'm running Mavericks, and there is nothing after 10.8 listed in the otherwise comprehensive resource. But more to my issue, there was only a small bit (D3) that I could find about doing full backups, none of which applied to my situation. Basically I'm wondering why there is a "new" event data base.
    Same drive
not many, if any new files (it's an external sound library storage drive),
Weeks went by with none of these issues
but I have noticed issues when waking from sleep
I'm not aware of any potential issues with the Mac's routine maintenance operations. But again, it's an external drive (via FW)
The 2nd link did not work.

  • Crash During Update From Full Disk

I was updating from 10.4.2 to 10.4.3. My disk filled up while doing this, and I could not empty the trash. The update stalled, and after several hours of letting it sit there, I held the power button five seconds to turn it off.
The computer will not complete start up now and stops in the stage where the apple logo shows and a ring of dots circles around.
Any ideas on what to do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
The first step is to connect to a computer where you can empty out excess information. The question becomes what machine do you have that you nearly filled up? If it is a machine capable of target disk mode, this exercise is quite easy. Otherwise you'll have to seek other options like booting off an external hard drive, or putting the hard drive in another hard drive case and connect to another machine. Installing an operating system on a nearly full disk is not a wise course of action, because of these limitations. So let's first get you some breathing room, and then decide what do next.

    Hi,
The problem could be that you don't have the TCP/IP protocol installed on your PC. Add the TCP/IP protocol by going into the network properties, click Add select protocol, click Add select Microsoft - TCP/IP protocol, Then click OK and probably reboot your PC. More information is in Knowledgebase 217AHFK3 "Datasocket server crashes during launch".
    Good luck.

  • System crash during data archiving

    Gurus:
We have a serious concern that is if our R3 server crash during our data archiving runs:
    1) if crash happens at write phase, can we simply remove  the generated archive , restart the write  job?
We are NOT sure if  the second run will archive those records that were archived in the failed first run.
    2) if crash happens at delete phase, a simple restart of the same delete job will be enough? (We use "store before delete").
Because this archiving is too important to us, please help.
    Thanks a lot!

    Christoph:
    Thank you for your reply.
This crash has not happened yet.
We are making a plan about how to cope with this possibility.
But we do not have experience with any crash during archiving process.
Therefore we ask  for people's experience about following scenarios:
    1) if crash happens at write phase, can we simply remove the generated archive , restart the write job?
We are NOT sure if the second run will archive those records that were archived in the failed first run.
    2) if crash happens at delete phase, a simple restart of the same delete job will be enough? (We use "store before delete").
    Would you please help?
    Thank you again.
