Server crashing during fetch

Question

Tux 7.1 vs. Oracle 8.1.5.
I've got a parameterized query that sometimes returns records, others
doesn't.
For the first 3 queries it runs fine, returning no rows.
The 4th query successfully returns 5 rows.
The 5th query, which should return no rows, it successfully sets the
parameters and opens,
but it hangs during the fetch for 30 secs or so, then the server cores with
no other error message given.
I've tried setting the debug flag in the XA_OPEN string higher to give me
more information on the oracle side, but I'm getting nothing, and I've tried
going from using a straight parameterized query that is prepared once while
just changing the parameters in the OPEN..USING clause, to using a static
char buffer to format the query in a separate function and sprintf ing the
query each time, makes no difference.
Any ideas?

Thanks for your reply John.
My Premiere Pro is CS5.5 on Windows OS with all the recent updates installed.
My source footage is H.264 in a .mov/QuickTime format.
There were no error message(s) before the crashing. The computer just crashes after a few minutes of exporting. My output codec is also H.264 in a QuickTime movie format.
No other software is running at the time. Also, no third party codecs have been installed.
I'm not sure what type of engine I use. Kindly direct me to where I can find this information.
The problem has only happened with my final output.
