Server / Database triggers

Here is my development teams, there are some naughty developer doing something bad things by themselves like create db, create jobs....etc~ some even know the sa password
apart from blocking/disable sa, change sa password, am I able to create DDL trigger on SERVER, which this trigger can only modify/delete by the creater , not SA

There is nothing to stop sa from doing anything.
While DDL triggers can be good to audit what is going on at the server and in the databases, they are not good for preventing actions. Particularly, one must understand that they fire after the action. A DDL trigger to prevent indexes being created during
office hours is entirely contraproductive.
From what you describe, you need to tighten security. Rename sa, change the password, write it down and lock it into a safe.
And for the rest, be considerate with the permissions you hand out. Although, there is always the problem that too much security goes in the way, and this is why auditing is a good way. But for auditing to work, you need to get sa and all other anonymous
accounts out of the way, so that everyone can he held accountable for their actions.

  • Database triggers VS Front end triggers

    Hi All,
We have online ticket reservation application developed using oracle forms 6i and Oracle 8i database in Client server multiuser environment.
for example we have scenario like this.. AFTER INSERTING into TABLE A,
we need to UPDATE status column in TABLE B, for achieve this which is better option
To write database trigger on A,
or To write a POST INSERT trigger in the form designed uisng TABLE A.
basically the the dataentry is done through Front end only.
we are going to have upto 20 triggers of this scenario in the entire database on diffrent tables.
which is best practice? in terms of performance.
And we want to have DAY END, DAY CLOSE system, so that once we close DAY, no one allowed to insert data into few tables, for this can we use database triggers or front end check.
    Thanks in advance

There isn't a confusion here between "application" meaning front-end tool, and "application" meaning "whatever layer contains your business logic" is there? I didn't mean to suggest that i thought it a good idea that business logic be implemented outside of the database, just that it ought to all be in one layer -- my own choice would be db packages, but if someone were commited to putting business logic outside of the db, then that would be the place for all the code.

  • How to convert Oracle database to Sql server Database

    Hi All,
I have one database made in the Oracle 8i, i want to convert that database to Sql Server Database,
Can anyone please give me the step by step process to do this conversion.

Try using the DTS (data transformation services) services of SQL Server 2000
DTS is based on an OLE DB architecture that allows you to copy and transform data from a variety of data sources. For example: Oracle directly, using native OLE DB providers.
Alternatively, you could follow the following broad steps for data migration (assuming you are retaining the same table structures in SQL Server, and that you are talking about SQL Server 2000).
    1. Get the CREATE scripts corresponding to each Oracle table / view / index. These can be reverse engineered from the database using a tool.
    2. Map Oracle datatypes to SQL server datatypes e.g: date maps to datetime/smalldatetime, numeric maps to one of int, bigint, smallint, etc depending on the range of values in the CREATE scripts.
    3. Indexes in SQL Server are of two types: Clustered / non-clustered. There can only be one clustered index on each table.
    4. Converting procedures and triggers will have to be line by line, since SQL Server uses a proprietary T-SQL instead of ORacle's PL/SQL
I have yet to see a really good tool to do this migration, but it is possible to write a PL/SQL procedure / Pro*C program to automate the script creation for creating tables in the SQL Server database.
For the actual data import into SQL Server, export the Oracle data table by table into flat files, and then use the import wizard of SQL Server enterprise manager

  • Can Oracle view refer a table in Sql Server Database

Can a view created in Oracle database refer a table created in SQL Server database. If yes, how do we do it. Code will be very help full.
Again, if yes does it require any special software and what would be price of that software.
Thanks for your response in advance.

You would need to configure Oracle Heterogeneous Connectivity to create a database link to the SQL Server system. This can either be done via the Oracle Transparent Gateway for Microsoft SQL Server, which retails for $15,000 per server at http://store.oracle.com or by configuring Oracle Generic Connectivity and using ODBC to go after the SQL Server data. Depending on the operating system you run Oracle on, there may be a free (or cheap) ODBC driver for SQL Server that could be used.

  • Trigger to populate table in sql server database

Maybe this isn't the right board to post this in, but here goes:
We have an Oracle 9i database, with a table that get's populated with a new record every minute or so.
We need to take some values from the newly inserted record and populate a table in a sql server database instantly. The people requesting this have not said as much, but I am thinking deletes and updates would need to be the same.
How would it be best to do this? My first thought was a trigger on the oracle table that populates the sql server table via heterogeneous db link.
    Any other ideas?
    thanks in advance..

  • How can I  connect to SQL server database thru local network by using JSP?

I'm currently doing a project by using JSP..And I need to display record from the SQL Server database in our school's local network. May I know how can I do that? How can I write the code so that I can able to access the SQL Server databsase Throught school's network by using JSP? Please tell me step by step how can I do that. I'm using Tomcat 4.1 as Web Server. And I had J2SE and J2EE installed in my computer.

first you have to establish a ODBC DSN on your computer,
that connects to the database...you can do that from your control pannel.
i assume that the TOMCAT server is residing on your computer....(if the webserver is in other computer then you would have to create a System DSN on the data sources ODBC option in the settings>control pannel of that machine)
then you can use that DSN name to connect to the data base from the class file....for further assistance on how to create the class that access the tutorials in sun site.

I can write a data array(2D)into a table of my SQL Server Database. The data array was writen to a column with image type. I know a data array is transformed a binary string when writing into database, but I dont know how to get the data array when I fetch the binary string from database.
    My question is:
How to transform the binary string into data array? which vi's should I use? I have tried unflatten from string but failed.

In order to use Unflatten from string you first need to Flatten it
before writing it. Also depending on the database driver, the returned
data may actually not be binary but Hexadecimal encoded ASCII which you
would first have to decode to binray.

  • Sql developer won't connect with SQL server database on cluster

    Hello,
I have a microsoft SQL server database on a windows cluster. Name for this cluster is like XXX/YYY
When I try to connect to this database with SQL developer, I get a failure, mentioning:
"Status : Failure -Cannot connect to Miscrosoft SQL Server on XXX/YYY"
As far as I know, I have installed the correct jtds driver (version 1.2.5), since I can connect to sql server databases on single server hosts.
Does anyone know how to connect to databases on windows clusters?

  • How can I get an accurate count of computers (workstations) logged in to my SQL Server database?

We license our software by number of workstations.
I have a query that I have used for years to get an accurate count of the workstations logged in to my SQL Server database. For simplicity, all users use the same login name/password. This is built in to the script that attaches to the DB. They
have access only to that DB with the exception of
USE [Master] GRANT VIEW SERVER STATE to MyUser
The query that has been working is below:
Basically this relies on the mac address (Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_addre
SELECT COUNT(Users) AS UserCount FROM (SELECT COUNT(Master.dbo.sysprocesses.hostname) AS Users FROM Master.dbo.sysprocesses LEFT OUTER JOIN Master.dbo.sysdatabases ON Master.dbo.sysdatabases.dbid = Master.dbo.sysprocesses.dbid WHERE (Master.dbo.sysdatabases.name = 'MyDatabase') GROUP BY Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_address) AS UserCount_1
ss), since both Workstation names and ip addresses can be duplicated.
Recently this has stopped working at a number of customers. Suddenly individual workstations are showing multiple net addresses for the same workstation causing a substantial overcount of users. This may be related to SQL Server 2012 - not sure.
What I need is a very reliable way to get a count of workstations logged in to my database.
If anyone can tell me why I am suddenly getting multiple net_addresses for each workstation and how to prevent that that would be one possible solution.
Otherwise if anyone can give me a rock solid way to get a workstation count other than the above that would be great. Our largest customer is 50 users by the way.
Thanks in advance for any help.
    Kim

I think your count is getting skewed because of duplicate rows in sysprocesses because of parallelism. Add DISTINCT to your query:
    SELECT COUNT(Users) AS UserCount
    FROM
    ( SELECT COUNT(DISTINCT Master.dbo.sysprocesses.hostname) AS Users
FROM Master.dbo.sysprocesses LEFT OUTER JOIN Master.dbo.sysdatabases
    ON Master.dbo.sysdatabases.dbid = Master.dbo.sysprocesses.dbid
    WHERE (Master.dbo.sysdatabases.name = 'MyDatabase'
    GROUP BY Master.dbo.sysprocesses.net_address) AS UserCount_1
