Server dissconected or network down

Thunderbird is displaying an error message Server dissconected or network down. All my other outlook.com accounts are functioning properly so I know the network is not down. Also I am able to retrieve all mail in all other folders on this account just not my inbox. Please Help!! Ive tried everything removing and re adding the account uninstalling thunderbird.... nothing is working. Please and thank you in advance!

that really sounds like security software.
The error is making generic possible reasons, but the key is the connection was lost.
Some Reasons I am aware of are.
1. Anti virus (Using your operating systems safe mode with networking is the only way to be sure you have an anti virus turned off. They lie)
2. Poor DNS resolution.
(Defective DNS settings)
3. Intermittent faults is your connections. (Email is two way communications and each end waits for an answer. Web pages are basically one way. You request a page elements and the server forgets about you until the browser asks for the next bit. So frequent short interruptions are not noticed the same at all)

  • Cannot connect to my Server across my network

    Hi
I have a Mac Mini with Snow Leopard Server preinstalled.
At this stage, I need my server only to be available on the local network and I am not part of a larger organisation. We have run an informal network in the past through our wireless router but want to use the server within this network mainly for file and print sharing, calendar, contacts and wiki sharing.
So, the network is as follows:
Wireless router provides access to the outside world, and provides IP addresses as subnets to the other macs and PCs. All the machines can see each other currently and can share files (permission dependent of course).
I have setup the new server and it has been given an IP address by the router. When asked to provide a domain name, as we don't currently want to point our internet domain towards this server, I followed the suggestion in the Getting Started guide and entered myserver.private.
I have activated all services except mail and VPN as I don't intend to host my mail internally and I am not ready to use VPN just yet.
All the other machines can now see the server - its name shows on all the finders and explorers. However, when we attempt to connect to it, Finder reports Not Connected.
The admin user for the server is the same as my user on my iMac, but when I attempt to connect my user to the server from the iMac (via the Accounts dialog in System Preferences setting Login Options and connect to Network Account Server), I receive an error stating that the server name cannot resolve. The error number is 2200 - Could not resolve the address. I have tried putting the IP address of the server in as well as the name, but no joy.
What am I missing? What else do I need to do?
Thanks in anticipation. Used to support Unix servers machines in the early 90s. But can't remember!

Here's what worked for me. Sounds like my office is similar to yours.
By default, the router acquires DHCP onfo from the ISP, including the address of the ISP's DNS servers. By default, each workstation acquires DHCP info (including DNS addresses) from your Router. That means that by default, your workstations contact the ISP's DNS servers directly. Nothing is telling them about the existance of your server, and many of their functions won't see it and won't work properly.
You have a choice, you can manually configure each workstation to point to your server for their DNS, or you can manually configure the router to hand out your server's address for DNS.
I prefer the second option, since it requires zero configuration of the workstations, which also means that any time a new workstation comes into your office (laptops, iPhones, etc.) the system just works. Less deskside support burden for you. The workstations contact the router for their DHCP handshake, and are told by the router to contact your server for all DNS inquiries.
On the server, obviously, you need to make sure that DNS is working correctly. That includes, manually entering your ISPs DNS servers (or any other DNS server you trust, like OpenDNS, Google DNS, etc.) in the Server Admin DNS Settings as the lookup servers (these go in the confusingly named "Forwarder IP Addresses"). Entering multiple external internet DNS servers in this box is acceptable, so you have some "failover" abilities.
Also, on the server, in System Preferences, you should manually configure the DNS options to point to the server itself. That means that when any random process running on the server needs a DNS lookup, it will use the DNS server running on the server to resolve it.
The downside of this approach I have described above is that if your server is ever shutdown, none of the macs will "see" the internet. Their macs will go to your server for their DNS inquiries, and receive no response, and get strange errors (timeouts). It means taht if you ever have to do server maintenance, you'll probably have to do it on nights or weekends, or temporarily change your router's DNS settings to point to the outside world DNS servers while your own server is down, and then change the router back afterwards. My server uptime has been very good so far, and this hasn't been a problem at my office.

  • Analytic Server Error(1042017): Network error:

I keep getting this error when building dimensions in essbase 9.3.1. It happens every other run of the same package. If I run the same package again it works..
    ****Analytic Server Error(1042017): Network error:*****
Has anyone else run into this? If so, what is the best approach to fix it.
I have already changed the netdelay and netretry settings in server config for essbase.
I have also tried putting the client essbase.cfg file with these settings where ODI will use it, I can't figure out where to put it so ODI essbase driver will use it.
    Thanks for your help,
    Rami.

    Hi,
It could actually be a network error or it could be down to a limitation with windows where it can't handle the amount of connections are being opened to essbase.
To get around this some registry setting changes are required
    1. Open the Registry
    2. Navigate to Local Machine\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\TCPIP\Parameters
    3. Add new DWORD Value named TcpTimedWaitDelay, right click and select Modify. Select decimal radio button, type in 30.
(The default value of this parameter is 2 minutes.
This is how long it will take for a TCP/IP port that was used by the network for a connection to be released and made available again.
30 sec is the minimum allowed by Microsoft)
    4. Add new DWORD Value named MaxUserPort, right click and select Modify. Select decimal radio button, type in 65534.
( The default value is 5000. This determines the highest port number TCP can assign when an application requests an available user port from the system.
    5. Add new DWORD Value named MaxFreeTcbs, right click and select Modify. Select decimal radio button, type in 6250.
(The default value is 2000. This determines the number of TCP control blocks (TCBs) the system creates to support active connections.
Because each connection requires a control block, this value determines how many active connections TCP can support simultaneously.
    If all control blocks are
    6. Apply to essbase machine and machine using the API to connect to essbase, reboot machine after changes.
    Cheers

  • NAC OoB and WLC Causing flap and network down

I'm trying to intall a NAC Solution in a Wireless network but it's causing a MAC address flapping between switches interfaces and it's bringing the network down.
I've done the deployment following the Cisco documentation:
    (WLC)-----(L2 Switch)-----(NACServer)--------(L3 Switch3com)
                        |_____________________________|
One connection from L2 to L3 throught NAC and one trunk out-of-band.
I Filtered the Vlans that should only be showed in the trunks but it keeps causing flapping when I plug the untrusted interface of NAC.
The only thing is that I wasn't able to take the Vlan 1 out of the Trunk in the 3Com switch (NAC Trusted interface).
Anybody has experienced this before and get solved?

yes, you can do it, just remember that the accounting server IP address must be the "service IP address" of the trusted management interface of the CAS

    Hello,
Sometimes when running our application through JDeveloper we get a 500 Error in which it states TOPLINK exception and that the "server is currently shutting down". If we re-start and try again there is no problem.
    Any idea what causes this?

    Phil,
I have not seen this before. Are you referring to the embedded server?
Is there any chance that an exception was thrown before this which could have caused the active JTA transaction to be marked for rollback or something more critical in the container. I believe you are looking at a follow on symptom caused by the application continuing after some failure.
I would recommend posting this to the OC4J to see if any of the experts there could shed some light on this.

  • I have a 1st generation time capsule and an extreme b/g. Is the extreme slowing the network down

I have a 1st generation time capsule and an appe extreme b/g. Is the extreme slowing the network down? Should I dump it an get the new n version?

yes it is likely to be slowing down the network because you are using 802.11b/g
from what i recall with b/g a slow client can slow down the entire network to that clients speed.
this was the major improvement with 802.11n and Mimo. each client can be connected to the access point without affecting your speed to the rest of the network
its reccomended to get all new "N" equipment if you have the budget for it. some of those old airports and time capsules can still be worth something on amazon marketplace so you might be able to sell them
if you want to create / join / extend a netwowrk your going to probably need all "n" based equipment.
buy the new 4th generation time capsule or the new 5th generation airport they have better stronger radios
in the mean time configure your base station router to a high multicast rate, so it will prevent devices connecting to it at 1-2 mbps speeds and slowing down your network
if you have an apple care covered mac remember the airport / time capsule rule. all airports and time capsules purchased 2 years before you bought your mac to the 3 years of apple care covers them. if you do not have apple care then the standard warranty applies

I have a Mac on my home network and also a Systemline music server on same network. My PC was able to find the server but my MAC cannot. • How do I get connected to a server on my network via an IP address?  When I try to open in a URL and login as a registered user with proper login it errors out saying there was a problem with connecting to the server?

I am new to Mac...How do I get connected to a server on my network via a hyper link IP address path?  When I try to open in a URL and login as a registered user with proper login it errors out saying there was a problem with connecting to the server?

Some of the following is going to use some technical terms — this area is inherently somewhat technical.
If you don't understand some part of the following reply, please ask.
Is this your own OS X Server system on your own network, or is this some other server within some larger organization?
You're posting this in the OS X Server forum, which is a software package that allows OS X systems to provide web-based and many other services; to become servers.
If it's your OS X Server on your network, then the network and DNS configurations are suspect, or the server is somehow malfunctioning or misconfigured.   This is unfortunately fairly common, as some folks do try to avoid setting up DNS services.
If it's a larger organization and somebody else is managing the server and the network, then you'll probably need to contact the IT folks for assistance; to learn the network setup and DNS requirements, and if there's a problem with the server itself.
The basic web URL "hyper link IP address path" — without using DNS — usually looks something the following, where you'll need to replace 10.20.30.40 with the IP address of your server:
    http://10.20.30.40
UptimeJeff has posted a URL that specifies the AFP file system; an OS X file share.  That's used if you're connecting to an Apple storage service somewhere on your network.  You might alternatively need to specify smb://10.20.30.40 or such, if it's a Windows file server.  (There can be additional requirements for connecting to Windows Server systems, too.)
If there's local IT staff available here, please contact them for assistance.  If these are your own local systems and your own local OS X Server system, then some information on the server will be needed.  (If you're on a NAT'd network, you'll also need to get DNS services configured and working on your local OS X Server system and your network — you'll not be able to skip this step and reference ISP DNS servers here — or things can and usually will get weird.)

  • Server instance is going down very frequently

    Hi,
Please help me solving one problem. The details are as follows:
Two web applications built on struts framework are running on one server. The server is SAPJ2EE 6.20 server which is running on SUSE LINUX.
I have SAPJ2EE 6.20 client interface using which I deploy these applications. Now once the applications are deployed, it runs perfect but after some time the instance of SAPJ2EE 6.20 application server goes down in linux and it remove these two application.
To make these two applications avaliable to the users I have to restart the instance of application server on linux and again deploy the applications. The behaviour of the same is very dynamic. Sometime it goes down 2 - 3 times in a day, sometime once in a day,
sometime once in 3 - 4 days and sometime once in a week.
On server I checked the logs but I didn't get any clue. The logs contains normal java exceptions like NULLPointerException, ExhaustResultSetException, IOException etc.
I guess the application is throwing some error because of which the server instance is going down and these errors are not showing in logs.( By error I don't mean exceptions, I mean errors like MemoryError etc.)
Am I thinking correct or is their any other issue? How to verify what is going wrong?
Please please please guide me on this as this is very important for me.
    thanks and regards

    Hi,
I would suggest to have look at the application server console. Do you see any OutOfMemory or any sort of Exception over there
    Please paste it here

  • Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking and Hyper-V.

Using NIC Teaming and a virtual switch for Windows Server 2012 host networking!
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8mOuoIWzmdE
Hi thanks for reading. Now I may well have my terminology incorrect here so I will try to explain  as best I can and apologies from the start.
    It’s a bit of both Hyper-v and Server 2012R2.
I am setting up a lab with Server 2012 R2. I have several physical network cards that I have teamed called “HostSwitchTeam” from those I have made several Virtual Network Adaptors such as below
    examples.
New-VMSwitch "MgmtSwitch" -MinimumBandwidthMode weight -NetAdaptername "HostSwitchTeam" -AllowManagement $false
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Vswitch" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
Add-VMNetworkAdapter -ManagementOS -Name "Cluster" -SwitchName "MgmtSwitch"
When I install Hyper-V and it comes to adding a virtual switch during installation it only shows the individual physical network cards and the
HostSwitchTeam for selection.  When installed it shows the Microsoft Network Multiplexor Driver as the only option.
Is this correct or how does one use the Vswitch made above and incorporate into the Hyper-V so a weight can be put against it.
Still trying to get my head around Vswitches,VMNetworkadapters etc so somewhat confused as to the way forward at this time so I may have missed the plot altogether!
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Paul
    Paul Edwards

    Hi P.J.E,
    >>I have teams so a bit confused as to the adapter bindings and if the teams need to be added or just the vEthernet Nics?.
    Nic 1,2
    HostVMSwitchTeam
    Nic 3,4,5
             HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    >>The adapter Binding settings are:
    HostMgmtSwitchTeam
    V-Curric
    Nic 3
    Nic 4
    Nic 5
    V-Livemigration
    HostVMSwitch
    Nic 1
    Nic 2
    V-iSCSI
    V-HeartBeat
Based on my understanding of the description , "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
HostVMSwitch " are teamed NIC .
You can think of them as two physical NICs (do not use NIC 1,2,3,4,5 any more , there are just two NICs "HostMgmtSwitchTeam and
    HostVMSwitch").
    V-Curric,
    V-Livemigration , V-iSCSI ,
V-HeartBeat are just VNICs of host  (you can change their name then check if the virtual switch name will be changed )

  • Debug spanning-tree bpdu brought the network down

I'm troubleshooting a pair of Dell Power-Connect switches in a Dell blade chassis connected to a pair of Cisco 4900M switches. I have my 4900M switches set as spanning-tree root and backup root. The Dell switches are connected via LACP trunks to the 4900M's. Dell switch 1 to 4900 #1 and Dell switch 2 to 4900M #2. Both of the Dell switches are reporting as root switches.
I was trying to troubleshoot this yesterday and ran 'debug spanning-tree bpdu' on the primary 4900M. There was a masive amount of BPDU events scrolling by. This debug command actually took the network down. The primary 4900M was non-responsive and the secondary unit had it's CPU go to 100%. The fix was to power cycle the primary 4900M.
Why did this command take my network down?

Typically, the device prioritizes console output ahead of other functions. The debug spanning-tree bpdu generates a lot of output. That is what jumped the CPU to 100% and ultimately caused the device to crash.
You should be very careful with debug commands and log to the internal buffer, instead of the console.

Is this why I get this error with 2008R2?
Windows failed to start.  A recent hardware or software change might be the cause.  To fix it... <blahblah>
    File:\Windows\System32\boot\winload.efi
