Server editions of sql server and specialised editions of sql server

hi,
iam new to sql server. i have started reading an article in MSDN regarding the editions of sql server.the article says with the different headings as "server editions of sql server 2008r2"
which includes (datacenter, standard and eneterprise) and where as other one "specialsed editions of sql server 2008r2" includes(sql server developer, sql server web,sql
server workgroup, sql server express ,sql server express with tools etc..).
here my question is ,what is the difference between these headings.could anyone explain to me? thank you...!!

here my question is ,what is the difference between these headings.could anyone explain to me? thank you...!!
The difference lies in features they support and provide. Not all editions of SQL Server provide every capability of database. Like express edition has limit of 10 G database, 1G memory 1 CPU. Standard edition cannot use Partition etc. To get list of features
supported please read below BOL article

I was looking for all blogs and TechNet material but without success.

    Follow these steps:
    1) Uninstall SSRS from the Database Engine server (MSSQLSERVER instance).
    2) Install SSRS on the SharePoint server using the "Reporting Services - SharePoint" install option during SQL Feature selection, no other services are required (e.g. you do not need to install Database Engine services).
    3) You should then see SSRS as a Service Instance in Central Admin -> Manage Services on Server, at which point you can also create an SSRS Service Application.
While this guide (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj219068.aspx#bkmk_install_SSRS) walks you through it, this is for a single server install where the Database Engine is also installed on SharePoint, not something you want to do.

  • Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 and HP Proliant ML350 G3

I would like if it has any clarification regarding the compatibility problem between Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 and HP Proliant ML350 G3 Server. I cann't proceed with the installation of Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7 on that machine whilst the process just stop at first logo. When I'm using Oracle Enterprise Server 9i 9.1 version, the installation process can proceed successfully. But, my customer (own Oracle Enterprise Server 8i 8.1.7) requires to install Oracle 8i 8.1.7 not Oracle 9i 9.1 version.
So, please someone help me to rectify that problem !!!!!

Can it be installed? It probably can be (assuming we're talking XP Professional).
Is it certified? On the main OTN page, under "Get Support" is the certification & availability matrix. Following that down, you'll find that the Oracle client was certified on 8.1.7, subject to the application of a number of patchsets, but that the Oracle database was not. Windows 2000 was the latest flavor of Windows that was certified with the 8.1.7 database.

  • Using and synchronizing applications from Windows Server 2012 on local desktop

I have Visual Studio 2010 on my remote server.  How do I use Visual Studio  software from the server on my local laptop and sync it with the server?

Of course remote desktop assumes that the system is also properly licensed for Remote Desktop Connections.
A little clarification on the OP's request might also be in order.
"How do I use Visual Studio  software from the server on my local laptop and sync it with the server?"
If you want to run VS on the server, using something like remote desktop services, it runs there and the data stays there.  Obviously you can redirect where VS will store data so that it stores data on your laptop, but then there is nothing to
automatically synchronize it.  Maybe a more complete explanation of your issue would help.

  • To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?

    Hi All,
To configure SSIS packages out of these SQL Server Standard, Web and Workgroup editions which is preferred?
Grateful to your time and support. Regards, Shiva

    Hi Shiva,
SSIS designer and runtime, basic transforms, and data profiling tools are only supported by Standard and higher editions. Besides, some advanced SSIS adapters such as High performance Oracle/Teradata destination and Dimension processing destination adapter
are only supported in Enterprise edition. So, if you need to develop/modify SSIS packages on this server, Standard or even Enterprise editor is recommended.

  • SQL Server Software ISO, How to find out what is the Edition and Version of the SQL software before starting installation

    Hi All-
Before starting installation, I would like to find out What EDITION and VERSION  is the SQL Server Software ISO.
Please note this is not to find out what version is the installed sql server but before the installation: Is there a note or abrv. that describes what kind of Edition and version is the ISO?
    Detail explanation is appreciated.
    Thanks.
    belayzeleka

@Balmukund - Thanks for the input - That one is a nice blog!
But assuming you can`t change the Product Key value (you are not provided that number, as you know it gets populated by itself) can you find out
what implies the corresponding edition? If there is a folder where this reference is store, could you provide the full file path where  this folder is located?
The ideal solution would be a way to find out what the Edition
    is befor we start installation.
    Thanks!
Also just to add what I came across:
The SQL Server 2012 installation software comes with pretty much all edition in it, that kind of makes it difficult to easily identify what edition is the specific ISO, but when
one downloads from MSDN one must downloads the
    right edition either Standard,
Enterprise, etc so that when you install it, it installs whatever edition is downloaded.
The best source would be whoever downloaded the software.
Also, before going too far, you can find out what edition it is being installed right before the setup wizard finishes on the
License Terms page (Microsoft Software License Terms Page) and if the edition is not the one you intended to install, you can cancel it there and everything will be rolled back- no hastle.

  • SharePoint 2013 SQL Server Edition for BI Features - must be on SharePoint SQL Server?

I need to install SQL Server 2012 for a new SharePoint 2013 installation.
Let's say I want to use the BI features of SharePoint 2013 like PowerView.
I already have a separate SQL Server running SQL Server 2012 BI Edition that is used as the database server for our data warehouse and some apps.  But this SQL Server will not be used to house the SharePoint 2013 databases.
Do I need to install SQL Server 2013 BI Edition on the SharePoint 2013 SQL Server (where the SharePoint 2013 databases will be housed) or can I used SQL Server 2013 Standard Edition on that server and utilize the BI Edition on the data warehouse server to
use the BI features of SharePoint?

Yes, BI or Enterprise must be installed on the SharePoint server in order to integrate SSRS. PowerPivot can be on a separate server with just a download (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35577) for certain components residing on
the SharePoint server. This will give you PowerView, as well.

  • Migrating SQL Server 7.0 Database to Oracle8i Enterprise Edition

    Hello,
I am running SQL Server 7.0 and Oracle8i Enterprise Edition on a
Windows 2000 Server OS. I need to migrate the SQL Server 7.0 database
over to Oracle8i side. I have tried the SQL Server 7.0 export utility
and the Oracle8i import utility without much luck. I am now trying to
use the Migration Workbench for version 8.1.7 and am having even less
luck than the SQL Server 7.0 export utility. I have, also, tried
downloading Oracle's latest ODBC driver for v8.1.7 without any luck.
As far as I can tell, the problems are occuring with the BIT to
NUMBER(1) conversions (the data is captured as 0s and -1s instead of
0s and 1s) and the CROSS JOINs in the views.
I have also been to the otn.oracle.com news groups and there doesn't
seem to be much there either.
Has anyone had any success with the Migration Workbench and if so, how
many scripts, "massages", etc. needed to be done?
I have only begun working with Oracle in the last 3 weeks and would
TRUELY appreciate any help anyone can give me.

  • Configuring the file server in KM and access, edit the documents from it

    Hi friends,
My requirement is to configure the file server where u will have all the structured and unstructured data stored here. So users can share the documents and create, edit ,save the documents from the file server itself.
In KM what kind of file servers are there apart from the one it supports by default.
Can anybody pls provide the configuration steps regarding how to configure the file server i KM.
To configure the file server is webDAV protocol required?
Points would be assigned for the helpful answer.
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards
    Sireesha.

    Dear Sireesha,
Well KM supports mostly all the File server however we have some restrictions with Novell FS and Sharepoint Server from Microsoft. Like versions and other meta data have some issues.
Alsothough to configure a File Server you need to first create a FS repository Manager. Details can be found in the help guide:
    <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/en/e3/92322ab24e11d5993800508b6b8b11/frameset.htm">FS Repository Manager</a>
Yes WebDAV protocol is required here.
You can create WebDav RM as well.
