Server Finder bug?

Of course this happens while I'm in new york and the server is in colorado, But
Thanks to some massive log files( 13 GB of web performance cache log alone) my disk became almost full. This prompted the finder to pop up the disk almost full warning.
this stopped ALL services ( Mail , http, ftp, and windows file were all I could check I only had a windows laptop with me but I think it seemed to have stopped them all) I'd consider this a bad bug I can understand the warning popping up but stopping all services?
anyone else seen this issue?

No. But I have seen ballooning webperfcache log files & web log files, on a server it turned out log rolling was not on (where it was expected to be).
Since you have access of some kind, verify the log rotation options for each site,
and fix the web performance cache log issue.
You could shut off web services if you restarted it, and clear out all but the most recent log files from /var/log/httpd
and then restart the web server (service)

  • Smb v2 Finder bug / Mavericks

On all Mac running Mavericks 10.9 & 10.9.1 we have identified and reported a major bug when using SMB v2 file servers.
    Sumary
The Finder can't rename a remote folder on an SMB v2 file server.
Meanwhile, with the same file server mounted from the same version of Mavericks,
accessing the mounted filesystem through the command line interface (i.e. with Terminal, xterm or ssh).
it is possible to rename a folder.
It is also possible to rename any plain file i.e. the bug is limited to the Finder
    and to directories.
If switched to smbv1, then this Finder bug isn't happening.
    Debugging
I'm investing this bug and discovered that on MacOS X there exists
a kernel extension debugging flag that I can turn on.
This flag is kloglevel and used within /etc/nsmb.conf .
I haven't been able to find a documentation about the use of this kernel
extension debugging flag (is this a bitmask or a boolean or a level).
Where is this information? Is there any documentation to make any other
    debugging at the Finder level?

I'm having similar issues connecting from 10.7.3 to Win Server 2003.  I am getting messages that I don't have access to copy and rename things even though I am connected as the system administrator.  At one point, I got two similar share points showing up even though I had only one connection.
Disconnecting and reconnecting seems to help for a while.

  • BIG n EVIL Finder Bug!

After "converting" our last co-worker to Mac, she found (in astounding 45 Minutes OSX) an extremely evil Finder bug.
Don't try it, it's no fun to correct if afterwards:
In a normal OSX Finder Window, you can change the name of the home folder link in the left part of the window with a right-click-order "change name of usershortname" (or something like that, I use a german system).
IF you do this, your home folder will NOT be renamed but a new pseudo-user folder will be made. Your files remain in the old folder, but your system thinks the new is the right one, which will produce some nice errors. All new files (prefs etc.) will be put in the new folder.
It just took me an hour to restore her personal files (freshly imported from her old pc - in the middle of which she changed the name of the link because OSX changed her Umlaut-Name falsely to a Non-umlaut-Name ...) (another bug, by the way, but a small one)
    - by the way: Any idea how to change the user - shortname?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!!
This bug is well known, and a nuisance!
I can't change the short name of a user account

There is also a ChangeShortName application which is available via MacUpdate or VersionTracker.

  • Finder bug in icon view. can anyone help me?

So, I'm experiencing a weird bug since I've installed OS X Mountain Lion.
When I set 'show items as icons' in Finder, the font used to label the files and folders are most of the time kinda messed up.
(they're not the normal black clean fonts, but they are like a really pale ugly and hard to read gray color)
And it's not like I'm using different fonts of whatever, it's a font smoothing/rendering issue.
If I turn off the 'Use LCD font smoothing when available', fonts are OK again.
The problem is that when I enter another folder, they are messed up again. Then I enable again the font smoothing option and they are ok (for that folder).
When I go back to the parent folder, they are gray again.
Also, when I make them "OK" with the LCD font option switch, they also become "NOT OK" as soon as I select them. (not individually, but making a box...yeah, weird uh?)
Really weird. I've tried to restart/ force quit the finder (which again, fix the issue just within the home folder) / adjust permission (maybe I've messed up something, I dunno).
Btw, it is not a clean install and I remember experiencing the same problem with Lion, one of the first days I've installed it, but then it went away (forever) after a day, so I didn't bother too much to find the cause.
Again, it seems like some sort of finder bug, the million question is: Why am I (apparently) the only one experiencing it? Thx for help

    Hi Giorgiovdb!
Unfortunately I cannot help you; all I did was test for you.
I did an upgrade over my Lion install with Mountain Lion which went fine. I just tested icon view in my Finder on different files and folders and here in my installation all stays fine; good readable like in column view!
The only thing you might try is change your Font in Finder and set it back to the original afterwards!
I quickly Google'd how to change fonts in the Finder as appearantly there's no obvious gui item for it:
    http://usermanifest.wordpress.com/2012/07/06/osx-finder-title-bar-font/
Try to see if it brings you anywhere!
At my post all fonts act normal after my upgrade to Mountain Lion; I don't do a clean install unless I really have to!
    Goodluck!

  • Problem with my Macbook Finder Bug/ Problème avec mon MacBook Finder Bug

Hi, two days ago I took my Macbook Pro with me for my holidays, since then, the finder can't stop glitching (I'm on Mavericks) : every time I try to open a file, a document, even my preferences the finder bug and show me the colorful circle. Even when I'm on safari it continues to freeze during 20-30 seconds. Yesterday I did the new adobe flash player update and miracle, it worked for the evening. But when I started it this morning the glitches were back, I tried to do the update again but this time it didn't work. I don't know what to do, 3 days ago it was perfect and now it is full of glitches. I'm currently writing since 10 minutes because it freezes every 10 seconds. PS: I didn't download anything so it's not due to a bad download or a full memory.
Thanks for your answers if you saw this kind of case before.

  • How corba client and server find Naming service

    hello
i want to ask how corba client and server find the Naming service ?
    10x

By using a well-known port (I think the default for JavaIDL's NS is 1049) on a well-known address (localhost).
As these values are not really standard, you can specify them when starting the server and client (+-ORBInitialPort 1050 -ORBInitialHost localhost+). See the documentation .

  • OSX Server webdav bug? - files and folders disappears when filenames are fewer than 7 characters

OSX Server webdav bug? - files and folders disappears when filenames are fewer than 7 characters
    Dear Community,
i have a BIG problem with Apple webdav.
All files or folders with fewer than 7 characters in filename disappear.
The problems is only between Mac Server and Mac Clients
and exists since OSX Server 1 (Server 10.7, 10.8, 10.9) on ALL Macs i know.
The problem persist ever and occurs in the following settings:
    Mac Server (1.x, 2.x, 3.x) <> Mac Clients (10.7.x, 10.8.x, 10.9.x, 10.6 not tested)
The problem does NOT occur in the following settings:
    Mac Server <> Windows Clients
    Mac Server <> Linux Clients
Linux Server (my Webhoster) <> Mac Clients
Windows Server (my Webhoster) <> Mac Clients
So i think it is not a problem with server itselv or a single client only,
it is probaly a problem with the combination betwen mac servers and mac clients.
This is NOT a problem with MY MacServers/Clients only and not with only one Server.
It occurs in many different Places and many different Machines.
I have contact Apple Support more then tree times (always when i setup a new machine with server.app)
but she said they heard first time about that and she cannot reproduce that problem.
please, can somebody try it out?
    sorry for my bad englisch.
    best regards
    rené

    Supplement note:
The Problem occurs also between OSX Server <> OpenWRT (Linux)

  • Lion finder bugs

hi - just wanted to report some finder bugs that I hope mac developers are already addressing.
    1) apple-tab to the finder does not automatically switch to the correct desktop space where finder windows automatically open or are already open... when I apple-tab to the finder then create a new window it works, but there shouldn't be an extra step.  I'm also curious why my previous preferences for which space applications open in has been preserved with the lion upgrade but the way to edit those preferences has been taken away... troblesom since I'd previously arranged all applications to work based on a 3x3 grid with the finder opperating center at space 5... now that a grid is no longer an option I might want to re-organize and not rely on automatic re-ordering.
    2) when I choose to view folders by the various options sometimes the categories (yesterday - previous 7 days - etc) will appear as folders in a list rather than dividers.  Doesn't happen often but bugs the heck out of me when it does.  Closing and reopening the window fixes it, as well as changing to do a different organization mode and back again... a little detail - but thats what makes mac great after all.
thanks guys - overall I'm enjoying lion very much.
    a

    also...
    3) when I 4-finger shift between spaces some finder windows which are apparently stuck in limbo appear during the transition then are gone again.

  • AFP Finder Bug Report/Collapse AFP Folders over the Command Line

    Hello,
I have a MacPro server that I am using to deliver scanned images of business recoreds.  I absolutely love how cover flow and spotlight work toghether and in fact this is one of the main reasons I chose Apple in 2009.
However, the number of records has grown quite a lot.  Somehow today a user opened/expanded all of the folders and now every user is seeing all folders expanded.  Unforunately it has become impossible to get a directory listing because there are over a million pages opening previews.  This has caused my business to come to a grinding halt!
So my suggestion to Apple is that this is a bug!  This is just like Lion that remembers which windows and applications are open and what a mess that created for people who open a lot of windows and so many users looked to create a workaround to prevent this either for specific applicaitons or to disable it all together.  Fortunately in Lion updates and ML it is possible to disable this feature.  This needs to be changed because because when a computer defaults to opening windows and resources not requested by the user(s) it bogs down the entire system and degrades the user's experience on the application they are actually working on.  Who in their right mind would want Safari to open up Drudge Report, CNN, Yahoo, every dirty movie I've ever watched and 50 pages of LOL Cats if I just want to check the weather or try and find a good resteraunt to take my wife to dinner.  Opening windows or folders by default is not an elegant use of our computer resources, is not minimalist design, and is not helpful in any way whatsoever.  These features create nothing but dust and clutter and users should demand these so called features be turned off by default.
And my question for the super users:  HOW CAN I FIX THIS?  There must be a plist file I can delete and recreate or at least edit?  A permissions change to prevent this from happening again?  Sudo something?
    Thanks,
    Jake
p.s.  A new MacPro with thunderbolt would be nice.

Thank you.  Yes it is a read only directory so I am flummoxed as to how .dsstore was modified?  I have tested multiple times to be sure users cannot accidentally delete or modify an archived file. tomorrow I will look to see how ds store was modified.
Users upload files into a drop box and they are inserted with rsync to prevent overwrites.   Several pitfalls to using finder for this purpose most notably the tendency to overwrite completely a folder so files may get deleted.   These are important records so early on I set it up so once a file was inserted it could not be removed without logging in as a specific management user.
But the user interface is so awesome to view the files I just can't imagine a competitive product being so nice as to scroll through the pages in cover flow like you are flipping through a file.  Most of the time I can scan the files' contents without even oppening preview or even hitting the space bar. Cover flow gives me the intuitive feel of paper I like.
If you have a product to suggest I would look at it.
    Jake

  • Mysterious Finder Bug

Just watch this video to see the bug: http://temhawk.com/Finder%20Bug.mov
When I moved the icon into a folder it was normal again, but moving it back to the desktop caused the bug again!
No idea how it happened. The file was sent to me through Skype. It's a good song by the way

Movie link seems to be taken down. Can't pull up the server on that one..
If you have weird Finder graphics bugs, sometimes it helps to wipe out the Finder and GUI-related .plist preference files. The following list of preferences files are all directly or indirectly related to presentation of graphics and windows on the Finder desktop and may have something to do with it. Wiping them out might help:
    com.apple.BezelServices.plist
    com.apple.desktop.plist
    com.apple.desktopservices.plist
    com.apple.finder.plist
    com.apple.systemuiserver.plist
    com.apple.universalaccess.plist
Don't worry, they will rebuilt themselves from defaults after restarting. Some window settings like colors and positions, font sizes etc that are custom set may be set back to defaults after doing this, but that's about the only bad thing that will happen by trying this. No guarantees though.

  • ICal client with iCal server. Bug with delegation of calendars with plenty

    Hi,
I have a working setup with an iCal server on OSX 10.5.2 that is also an OD master. I have several users with calendars hosted on the server. Only Mac clients so far. Everything seems to work when managing your own calendars. The problem I see is when I delegate my calendar to another user. None or just a few of the entries show up in the other users view of my calendar.
I experimented a little and found out that it probably has to do with the number of items in the calendar. I have a calendar that contains several years of historic entries and when I start to delete entries everything eventually start to work. My calendar shows up OK in the other users view.
I am not completely sure if it is the number of items in the calendar or if it is some specific entry that cause the problem but I can recreate the problem over and over again if I import the exported calendar, delegate and refresh as the other user.
If I start to edit away entries in the exported iCal file I finally get a working setup.
If somebody at Apple is interested I can provide the exported iCal file and it should be quite easy to recreate the bug.

  • New Finder bug in 10.7.2 - overwriting file w/authenticated move fails and zeroes out target file too

I have found a new bug in the Finder for Lion 10.7.2
In 10.7 and 10.7.1, if I downloaded a new version of an application, and wanted to drag it to /Applications or /Applications/Utilities, here is what happened:
    1) Try to drag to one of these protected directories, in order to copy it over the old version.
    2) Get a dialog box saying "The item XXX could not be moved because "Utilities" couldn't be modified." This dialog would have two choices: "Authenticate" or "Cancel"
    3) Click "Authenticate"
    4) Get another dialog: "An older item named XXX already exists in this location. Do you want to replace it with the newer one you're moving?" Choices would be "Keep Both Files" "Stop" and "Replace"
    5) On clicking "Replace", the OS would ask for an admin password.
    6) You would give it, and then the OS would copy the new file. Done.
Now, in Lion 10.7.2's Finder, after steps 1-5, there is a new dialog:
"This operation couldn't be completed because some files had to be skipped. For each item, chose File > Get Info, make sure "Locked" is deselected, and then check the Sharing and Permissions section. When you are sure the items are unlocked and not designated as Read Only or No Access, try again."
"OK is the only choice to exit this dialog.
    AND
the target file is in fact overwritten with an empty file! So your folder now contains a nonfunctional app, while the new version can't be copied over it!
You can, in fact, go in and delete the zeroed-out app and drag the new copy into the folder. But authenticated overwriting appears dangerously broken.
(And what an error message! Sounds like someone from the Windows 2000 team thought that one up...")
I'm not a developer, but if any registered developers would care to replicate this and file it as a bug, I'd be very grateful.

Yup. Thomas, have you tried replicating this in the other direction? In Terminal you can make a folder, chown it to root, get the permissions to the same as those of /Applications/Utilities,  then as a normal user, try dragging something
into that folder? I have - this is replicable.
This is a real bug - worked ok until 10.7.2, then broke.
I have worked around this bug by changing the permissions on my Applications and Applications/Utilities folders so that my account has write permission there without authentication. But that not ideal from a security standpoint.
If any developer out there could fire a Radar report off on this, I'd be much obliged.

  • A Finder bug (or bad design) -- cmd+del while renaming

This reproducible behavior is quite confusing:
    1. In a Finder window, click on a file twice to enter the renaming mode.
    2. Type some new file name.
    3. While still in renaming mode, press Command+Delete.
    4. The file will be moved to the Trash, yet in the Edit menu it says "Undo Rename".
    5. If you choose to undo, the file will be un-renamed, but stays in the Trash.
What I wanted to do in step 3 was to press Fn+Delete, in order to produce a backspace, and when I accidentally pressed the wrong buttons, the file disappears, and when I use Undo, the file doesn't come back. Worst yet, when I clicked the Trash icon in the Dock, the Trash window doesn't come up, but that's another bug (which killall Dock doesn't help).
The above experience was very confusing. I suggest disabling the Cmd+Delete function while in renaming mode. Also, multi-step undo would be nice. Visual cue/animation for all file operations would be great too.
Ever since I upgraded my Tiger to Leopard, there are many bad experiences every week that makes me want to kill Leopard (if it's some hurtable thing..). I used to love Mac OS X. Now I am considering switching back to Linux.

Of course whenever we get confused by something we think that the interface should be changed to address that specific issue but every possible user confusion can't lead to an amendment of the system.
    Specifically:
Multi-level undo means that we wouldn't have redo
The described behaviour only happens when you have made changes to the name before Command+Delete and that means you are suggesting that the interface would behave differently when a file name is changed until you have clicked something else to get out of that mode (which could be a problem for the way I work)
Although there is no animation, there is a distinctive click when something is transferred into Trash
My vote goes for the current behaviour.

  • OS X Mavericks Finder Bugs?

Upon updating my iMac to OS X Mavericks I noticed that Cover Flow contained a few annoyances and I have yet to find any discussions about this particular one. I've always used Cover Flow since I migrated to Mac but this seems specific to Mavericks. Everytime I open my Home folder the icons in the actual black scrollable area of Cover Flow would always resize to 180px x 140px.
I can resize them after I open the folder and that would make them the specified size until I close the window, but it would revert back upon opening it again. I even set my preferred sizea as the default in the Show View Options dialog box but that amounts to nothing.
I was wondering if anyone else has this issue, and if so, have you found a fix? I've sent a bug report to Apple already so I'm eager to see what they include in the next software update as well as your personal reports on this too.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
From memory, it went like this:
In Finder, I have an icon in the toolbar marked 'Arrange'. If you don't have it, go to Finder  and under the View menu select 'Customise Toolbar'.The customise panel appears and you can drag and drop the Arrange icon onto your toolbar.
Click on the down arrow on the Arrange icon and you will see a drop down menu. Click on an option e.g. name (i.e. arrange folder contents by name). This should make your invisible files appear. I had to do this for most of the folders in Favorites on the Finder toolbar. One or two were ok anyway for some reason.
i hope this makes sense and answers your question. Sorry if I have used incorrect technical terms!
