  • Web host, mail server and FTP.

    Dear all:
I have some questions and will try to make my post a short one (although the questions aren't exactly simple). I have the need to set up my own web server, e-mail server and FTP server. It is my understanding (and I remember setting another computer I had 2 or 3 years ago this way) that OS X can be used for this without the need to have OS X server installed. I don't need (at least not for the for the immediate future) to have a server for my own local network. Basically all I need is a single computer where (1) I can host multiple web sites, (2) I can host my own e-mail that will correspond in number to the number of web sites (domain names) being hosted and (3) I can set-up as a FTP server so that my clients can log on and download files.
I have used VirtualHostX for virtual hosting as well as PureFTD Manager with good results in the past. I've also found both to be easy to use, with a good and intuitive GUI which is essential for someone with as little knowledge as I have of networking. My question now as to do with e-mail and how to set-up Mac OS X to work as an e-mail server.
Are there any applications you would suggest that would be simple to use, have a simple and intuitive user interface and also provide mailing list services along with e-mail services that you would recommend ? I've looked at a few but most of the ones I have found seem to require command line input and this is something I am not comfortable with. I need an application with a simple interface and allows things to be set-up in a straight forward manner (and preferably free instead of paid).
What would be your recommendations for this project ? Any recommendations, advice and suggestions you can offer will be very appreciated.
    Thank you in advance,
    Joseph

Perhaps you should give people more time to answer.
    1. You do not need a DNS on your server, ask the ISP to set up the MX record as they set up the A record.
    2. Not really enough information in your setup to say either way, but as it takes seconds to do and you have everything else needed - set it up anyway.
    3. Domain name: mydomain.com, Host name depends what you call it. If you don't have a name why not mail.mydomain.com and make you mx record point to that name. Perhaps that is what your A record is already.

  • Correct FTP setup

I've been struggling with ftp setup on my os x server. I have it running but not how i want it. I want anyone to be able to download from the ftp server but not upload to it and i dont want people to require a username or password to access the ftp site. I cant see any settings options on the ftp tab of the server app. Is there some command line or am i missing something obvious???

Can you offer downloads of the files via http?  That might be easier.

  • Dreamweaver (on Windows 7) wont connect to IIS (v7) Server using "FTP over SSL/TLS..."

I am evauating wether to purchase Dreamweaver CS6...
Dreamweaver CS6 trial (on Windows 7) wont connect to IIS (v7) Server using "FTP over SSL/TLS (explicit encryption)".  I have a NEW Godaddy SSL certificate installed on the IIS server.
On connecting Dreamweaver states: "Server Certificate has expired or contains invalid data"
    I have tried:
-ALL the Dreamweaver Server setup options
-Using multiple certificates (tried 2048 bit and 4096 bit Godaddy SSL certificates)
-Made sure the certificate 'issued to' domain name matches my domain name.
I am able to connect no problem using Filezilla, with equivalent Filezilla setting "Require explicit FTP over TLS".  I can also connect fine using Microsoft Expression web.

    Thanks for your prompt reply.
    My comments:
    1) You should update your tread (forums.adobe.com/thread/889530) to reflect that it still occurs on CS6 (I had already read it but figured it was an old tread and thus should be fixed by now).
    2) You said “These warnings will also pop up for your users if you have a store saying the SSL certificate does not match the domain/ip and this can make users checking out in a storefront very nervous” .  This does not seem to be correct – my https pages display properly using the same Godaddy certificate … using IE:
    3) Godaddy is not my host (I use Amazon AWS) – but the SSL certificate is from them.

  • How can I create a directory on my server using FTP in applescript?

    Hi
I have created a script which successfully uploads files to my server using FTP and a curl command.
The one thing I haven't worked out how to do is how to create a directory on my server using applescript. At the moment I have to manually create the correct directory for the script to work, but would like to be able to automate everything.
    Would this be possible?
    Thanks
    Nick

    Thanks Bernard.
I have tried that and still get the error message:
    "curl: Can't open '--ftp-create-dirs'!
curl: try 'curl --help' or 'curl --manual' for more information
% Total % Received % Xferd Average Speed Time Time Time Current
Dload Upload Total Spent Left Speed
    0 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 --:--:-- 0:00:01 --:--:-- 0
curl: (9) Server denied you to change to the given directory"
The other relevant parts of the script are:
    set ftp_url to "ftp.****.org.uk/artists/" & artistName2 & "/assets/"
    set ftp_username to "*****@*****.org.uk"
    set ftp_password to "****"
    set ftp_entire to ftp_username & ":" & ftp_password & " ftp://" & ftp_url
set outPath to outputFolder & fileCounter & ".jpg"
    and then...
    do shell script ("curl -T --ftp-create-dirs " & outPath & " -u " & ftp_entire)
Like I said, all works fine when the directories are already in place. I have permissions for the artists folder set to "777", i.e. writable. Because the script is trying to create two directories at once, i.e. "artistName2" and then "assets" under it, I wondered if this was significant, but then I tried with just one new directory, and still got the error.

  • SQL Server 2008 Express Setup Issue SKU

    Hi,
a  configuration file driven setup worked on roughly 30 machines without problems.
However, on one certain machine (which is costumer owned in Saudi Arabia) the installation seems to
be blocked at an early stage. Logfiles reporting something about "SKU", but this makes not clear for me
    what the problem is.
The Summary.txt is pasted, below this Details.txt is placed (the bottom part which contains the error portion).
    Thanks for help in advance!

    Hi,
a  configuration file driven setup worked on roughly 30 machines without problems.
However, on one certain machine (which is costumer owned in Saud Arabia) the installation seems to
be blocked at an early stage. Logfiles reporting something about "Invalid edition ... SKU", but it not clear for me
    what the problem is.
The Summary.txt is shown here, below this I will paste Details.txt (the bottom part which contains the error portion).
    Thanks for help in advance!
    Peter

  • Sending XML file from SAP to Windows Based file server with FTP function

    Hi Gurus,
We are using SAP BW 3.0B version.
I need to convert data in ODS to XML format and send this XML file to remote server which  is not a SAP application server, it is just a Window Based file server with FTP function..
By writing some ABAP code I have converted ODS data into XML format (which gets saved in my local system)
(Is that I need to put this file in Application Server to send it to the other servers? )
Now the thing is how I can send this file to that Windows Based file server.
plz suggest me.... what can be done......
    Thanks in Advance

I dont think the above code support windows OS. Because I always execute this script via UNIX.
I think you can try this option, go to command prompt, goto the destination path where you have an XML file using cd....
ftp (destination servername), specify the username and password.
afterthat, use the command put and filename.
check whether the file had reached destination successfully or not.
For automation purpose, you can use the following script like
    ftp: -s: test.txt  (servername)
    In test.txt,
    UserName
    Password
    bin
    cd /files
    put file.xml
    bye
Also, you can check in SM69, there will be some SAP external commands to automate the file transfer.
    Thanks

  • SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup Very Slow

    Hi,
We have a multi-node SQL Server 2008 R2 Failover Cluster.
I've noticed that the SQL Server 2008 R2 Setup is extremely slow and that it appears to only be using 1 of the 128 "CPUs" (i.e. in Task Manager).
We use this for creating new cluster groups and alike.
Is this tool only single threaded and is there a way to increase the performance? Our CPUs are 2.something GHz, we have 512GB of RAM and fast local disks.
    Thanks

    Hello,
What happen if you slipstream the SQL Server 2008 R2 with the latest SQL Server 2008 R2 service pack? Maybe SQL Server setup does better after the slipstream process.

  • Specify SQL Server Port During Setup

I am installing ConfigMgr 2012 R2 in an environment that requires remote SQL.  In addition, the remote SQL uses a custom port and does not run the SQL Browser service.
Is there a way to specify the SQL Server port during setup? I know I can specify the port for the SQL Service Broker, but I need to specify the port for the SQL Server instance itself.
    Any insight/experiences are greatly appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Jeff

You will need to change the port in SQL Server Network Configuration

  • I can't connect to Windows Server via FTP

I've been using FTP for about 13 years and it works fine on Apache servers but can't connect to a windows Server via my Fetch FTP program. The site owner sent me a screenshot and copied/pasted the password so I know I have the info correct. It is still giving me errors.
Is there a special method to connect to Windows server via FTP?

    Hi Lorel,
    Try FileZilla...

  • Giving someone access to my server thru ftp

    Hey there,
I need to give someone outside my office a link with a password to be able to upload files to our server I don't know how to do it can anyone help...
we're using leopard server and I'm not sure what else anyone needs to help me with this problem
any help will be appreciate it!
    ~D

    Hi,
To allow access to your server via FTP:
    1. Select your server in the list in Server Admin.
    2. Click Settings, then click the Services tab.
    3. Make sure FTP is checked on the list.
    4. Now click the little arrow next to your server on the list of servers to your left.
    5. Click FTP, then click Settings, then goto the General tab.
    6. Check Enable anonymous access if you don't want your clients to enter a username or password.
    7. Goto the Advanced tab.
    8. Make sure Authenticated Users See: is set to FTP Root with Share Points.
    9. If you want to put your FTP files in a folder other than /Library/FTPServer/FTPRoot, change FTP Root.
    10. Make sure you save your settings by clicking the Save button in the lower right-hand corner.
    11. Select FTP under your server in the list of servers to your left, then goto the Server Menu > Start or Stop Service.
    12. If you have an AirPort or AirPort or AirPort Extreme Base Station goto step 12A, if you have a non-apple router goto step 12B
12A. Start Server Preferences (Applications > Server > Server Preferences), then click Security. Make sure security is on. If it is not, turn it on and enter your AirPort password when prompted. Click add ( + ). Select Other under Add Service. Name it FTP and enter 21 under Port. Click Add. Exit Server Preferences and Restart the AirPort if prompted.
12B. Since there are too many router brands and models to fit into this post, it might be a good idea to google how to forward ports on your specific brand of router. Start Safari and goto 192.168.0.1, 192.168.1.1, or 192.168.2.1 (which ever one works). Enter your username and password when prompted. If you do not know, ask your network admin or try admin as username and no password or admin as the password. Goto Port Forwarding, Virtual Servers, or something similar. Add a new port or entry. Name it FTP, select it's type as TCP&UDP (or if that isn't available, add two separate entries: one TCP and the other UDP), and the port(s) as 21.
    13. Go to whatismyipaddress.com and write down the IP address it gives you. This is what your clients will type in to access your server. (Note that this IP address changes every couple of days, so repeat this step every so often)
    14. To connect to your FTP server, go to the Go menu in Finder > Connect To Server. Enter ftp://youripaddress (replace youripaddress with the one you wrote down) and click Connect. / should mount on the desktop, and you should be able to access the server.
    15. If you have any problems getting clients to connect, you may need to forward the port 21 on the router they are behind.
    Glad I could help,
    Ian
