Server hangs up on restart
Our Mac (Panther) server for our courses went offline when the college experienced power outage problems a few weeks ago.
They couldn't get the college servers functioning for two days because of network problems.
When I tried to restart my server it showed a progress bar and a message. The message keep changing but the process stopped on "waiting for ipfilter…"
Yesterday I put it into Terminal mode and accessed it from another computer (via Firewire) and ran the Disk Warrior diagnostic software.
Disk Warrior repaired a few directory inconsistencies but did not find any real problems of any type.
Then it stopped on "waiting for directory services" and would not advance.
The server has a static IP address and that can be pinged when the server is locked up like this.
Today I ran the Utilities startup repair program, after that the server stopped at "waiting for Network Address Translation" in both regular mode and in safe mode.
Tried things like resetting PRAM and even put the drive in another computer to see if it might be the network card.
Had the same problems in the new computer and in different Internet connections.
Seems to be hanging at "waiting for ipfilter…" now. If I let it sit overnight it eventually gets to the logon screen, but it is frozen and I cannot enter an ID or PW.
Any insights?
Interestingly, we set up another server last week (SnowLeopard) and yesterday this server suddenly started to lock up in startup. Ran the Install disk First Aid and DiskWarrior- no problems indicated. Tried CMD-v to watch the progress and it hangs at ("/usr/sbin/mDNSResponder",.....) no such file or directory.
I have had servers for years and have never had such problems, now two at the same time. Very perplexing.
Over last week i have very similar hang at "my-server-name com.apple launch[1] (com.apple.mDNSResponder [70.]: posix spawn (usr/bin/mDNSResponder...no file or directory.
I had just reinstalled OS X Server 10.6.3 on reforatted blank drive - updated twice to 10.6.8 - after 5 hours downloading rebooting system restarted OK each time. Then did setup of file access (a separate drive with existing data) this was visble to client machines but strangrely not identical access although all clients are up to date OS X 10.6.8 and individually work fine,
Using console fsck -f t boots until it gets to point of cycling around above dianostic every 10 seconds.
This looks to my paymans knowledge that it trying to broadcast a DNS info, but this was nt needed in sstem since the server i running in aclosed shop intenal network only.
To reset to wen it ranonce wopuld need a repaeat of entire download and update to get to point whee i can configure server usage parameters.
Can anyone show how to stop "spawning?" retries and go to normal server admin panel?

OIM Server Hanging up after restarting
Hi,
We have deployed OIM 9.1 on Weblogic server 10.3. The OIM server is being hanged when we are trying to restart the server. After several attempts the server is coming up. Please let me know, what is the cause for hanging and can we use Unicast address for the cluster and multicast address for the nodes. the multicast address is same for both the nodes and also let me know if there is any other alternate way to bring the server up without using the multicast address. Please find the xlconfig.xml below.

Edited by: 798291 on Sep 28, 2010 1:42 PMHi Kevin,
Thanks for your quick response. Should I have the same Unicast address for the cluster and the nodes or can I have Unicast for Cluster and Multicast address for the nodes. and, Can I have the multicast disabled since it is not supporting our environment. Please let me know if there is any other alternate way.
Thanks

All BW Broadcast job hang after we restart server.
Dear all expert,
We encountering an issue where all the broadcast job for BW hang when we restart server.
Any advice?
Thank you.> We encountering an issue where all the broadcast job for BW hang when we restart server.
What means "hang"? Use SM37, check for active jobs and use the menu to "check status".

Stuck Threads Leading to server hang
Hi ,
We have been facing a problem with Stuck Threads in our production environment. We are currently running version 8.1. Though the stuck Threads do point to JDBC issues, we suspect that these problems may be related to some Weblogic/OS configuration issue as well. These probelms eventually lead to a server hang.
The general pattern of the problem is that we see messages like :

Sometimes a deadlock Exception would be thrown from the Database,

This is a typical Thread dump from one of our servers when it complained of a stuck thread.

I guess this issue is related to your connectivity and hyperion services. Can you take a restart and try to execute the reports. Also try to check all your Hyperion services are up and running before executing the FR Reports. You can also check the Reporting services by login to Weblogic server (if you have applied it in your environment). In weblogic it should be in Running mode and not in Admin mode. If it is not in Running mode then try to check the Data Source setting from Connection Pool in Weblogic Server.

Server hangs or freezes during heavy load
During peak times of the day, especially during heavy load on the Calendar Server,
the application seems to hang. The client side application will not respond on
the user's desktop, and uni* commands on the server itself respond considerably
slow.
<P>
There are two parameters in the server configuration file that are strongly
believed to be a trigger of server hangs or freezes in large deployments and/or
busy servers. Here is a description of the problem:
<P>
Large deployments tend to be 3000+ users per node. This could be a single or
multi-node environment.
<P>
A lock manager fix was implemented in 4.0 to correct a problem that was
found in 3.51 where the server would hang. At that time, the parameters called
read/writelocktimeouts
were introduced as a failover mechanism in case the
database was not available, which would then trigger the client process to
disconnect rather than hang the whole server.
<P>
These timeouts effectively will terminate a process whose read or write exceeds
the specified periods. The default of 20 seconds is quite a large amount of time;
however, it is not totally unlikely that such a value could be met on a
very busy system. If this is the case, and there is some relation between a
process being terminated by one of these timeouts and subsequent system
instability, then the "solution" would not be to extend the values of the
timeouts but rather to exclude them. This way, it will ensure that no process is
terminated this way and therefore the process would be allowed to continue until
it had completed its job.
<P>
The timeouts were not removed from the product, but under normal circumstances
they probably won't be needed anymore anyhow. It seems that on a busy calendar
server, setting the db timeout alarms may actually trigger the server to freeze.
Below are some examples of errors that appear in the log files which show
that the database is no longer accepting client requests:
<P>
db_VISTA ERROR -920 -> cst_d_open: d_open
db_SchedBaseOpen: unable to open database
probable cause: unilckd is down or "/users/unison/tmp/unisonlckm"
was removed
uniengd: database lock timeout
ITEM: "NA,NA" <0,0>
CLIENT: "unises", "A.02.80"
INET-NAME:
INET-ADDR:
CALL: "SessionsInfoGet"
<P>
To make the fix:
<OL>
<LI>Using your favorite editor, edit the /users/unison/misc/unison.ini file.
In the following section you will see these two parameters:
<P>
[ENG]
writelocktimeout = 20
readlocktimeout = 20
<P>
<LI>Place a "#" sign (or the appropriate comment symbol for your OS) in front of
these two lines and save the file.
<P>
<LI>The server will now have to be restarted in order for the changes to take
effect.
</OL>This looks similar to what I'm seeing.
DPM 2010, there's one backup set (for me a file server disk) that every time I try to run the initial replica on it the server hangs and needs to be rebooted by iLO. It doesn't just die suddenly, first the data stream on the backup stops then the OS becomes
less responsive but there is no resource issue. trying to open event view will cause a few things to lock up then over a few mins the server is complete froze. like the disk drives have been locked.
Suspecting McAfee, I added in all the exclusions, that didn't help so I added the process exclusions which are done by setting dpmra and csc to low risk and that didn't help either. I could reproduce it just by kicking off a backup for this one file servers
drive so it's easy to test with.
Tonight, I had some permissions in EPO to let me stop the scanning completely and disable the on-access scan and for the first time it worked!
There is definitely an issue between DPM and McAfee beyond what is on MS's web page for AV checks.
I don't have a workaround yet other than stopping the AV completely... Something to follow up on next week. For the moment I made some progress though. -
Dear All,
We have Hyperion 9.3V EIS running on windows. A schedule job runs every hour which
1. Builds and loads data into an ASO cube
2. Only builds a BSO cube.
The problem here is that the EIS server hangs during the BSO outline build (after loading the Metadata Catalog information). It is needed to restart the server each time it hangs and runs sucessfully for some time and then starts hang. Searched the EIS server log and essbase and application log but no information was found. But in the event viewer it shows there has been a problem with the GLOBLC.32 dll.
Need your help identifying what exactly the issue is and how can i overcome it?
Thanks,
PraveenEIS is notorious for crashing. I found if I stop and start the service between steps, I don't run into a problem. I just add a netstop and netstart into my batch script (I also put in a sleep 30 to allow it time to stop and start)

BI Server Hanging and spiking CPU
Hello all,
The BI Server on my linux environment started today spiking the CPU and hanging. I restarted the services and the same issues happened again right after loading the subject areas metadata and running the init blocks. I thought it was one of the init blocks or something of that nature, but alas, it happens whenever it sends a query to an Oracle DB. There have been no changes to the RPD, startup scripts, the server/bin libnqsdbgatewayoci* files nor the Oracle client from what I can see. I tnspinged the Oracle DBs and also logged in via sqlplus with success. So at this point, I am at a loss as to why the bi server all of a sudden have this issue.
I looked at the nqsserver.log and there is nothing that it shows of what is happening and why the bi server will peg the CPU. I looked at the NQQuery.log and see only that the queries are there and logged with no other messages that it returned. I even monitored the database sessions to see if the db conn pool logged in and submitted the query, which it did not. So I can only assume the connections where never made and the queries were never sent and it is in an infinite loop trying to connect and send the query. So how else can I tell or find more information to solve this one.
I am running on Linux OS, OBI version 10.1.3.4.1.090414.1900. Oracle DB is 10gR2 and using 10g client.
Thanks for any and all help on this. I searched google, the forums and metalink. Hopefully someone out there knows or can guide me.We met the same issue. Can you tell me more details how to resolve it? You mentioned restart the Linux instance, DB instance or what's kind of other instance? Thanks you in advanced for your response.

Hi,
When try to access Help --> About Hyperion@Workspace on the Workspace Console, the workspace server hang and require to restart the services.
We are on Hyperion System 9.3.1 and here are the config,

Appreciated for any help...
Thanks,
Raghu.If you disable SiteMinder does the hanging problem go away? When working with SiteMinder in 11.1.1.2 it had quite a few quirks and I assume 9.3.1 integration wasn't too much better.

What would happen if application server needs to be restarted?
I am talking about a scenario where application server hangs and needs to be restarted, because you couldnt do anything on it. What would happen to any insert, update of data taking place at that time. I guess it will all be rolled back if they are not committed and written on the data files. What would you do in this case before restarting , what would you check after restart of the system? Please share your experiences.
Hi,
>What would you do in this case before restarting , what would you check after restart of the system? Please share your experiences
SAP has its recovery manager([click|https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/a8910c3a-0d01-0010-a6a9-f4a8aae140fe] BR Tools) and every time you restart the server the system will be rolled back to the last safe point if there were any undone or not commited queries.

RHEL4U4 server hang up once I start guest VM
Hi,
My RHEL4U4 server hang up once I start VM with command xm create vm.cfg
Environment:
OS: RHEL4U4
Xen Kernel: xen-3.1.0-13(xen-release-0-99.7), which was installed manually by myself
xen_caps : xen-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p
cfg file like:
builder = 'hvm'
device_model = '/usr/lib/xen/bin/qemu-dm'
disk = ['file:/OVS/running_pool/VM_NAME/System.img,hda,w',
+'file:/OVS/running_pool/VM_NAME/disk01.img,hdd,w',+
+',hdc:cdrom,r',+
+]+
kernel = '/usr/lib/xen/boot/hvmloader'
memory = '2048'
name = 'VM_NAME'
on_crash = 'restart'
on_reboot = 'restart'
pae = 1
serial = 'pty'
vcpus = 1
vif = ['bridge=xenbr0,mac=XX:XX:XX:XX,type=ioemu']
vnc = 1
vncconsole = 1
vnclisten = '0.0.0.0'
vncpasswd = '********'
vncunused = 1
As this VM image was copied from another OVS2.1 machine(xen_caps: xen-3.0-x86_64 xen-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_32 hvm-3.0-x86_32p hvm-3.0-x86_64, not sure whether this is the root cause)
Is there any way to resolve the problem?802680 wrote:

Web server hangs after exceeding number of connection
Hi DBAs,
We are maintaining oracle 9i and webser on solaris.
so, after reaching 800 connection as shown on v$session the webserver hangs and we have to restart the webserver again.
Please help me where i need to check for this.
Regards
Asifplease find the following details :-
We are maintaining one DB server and 4 webserver .
OS Platform (for DB and Webserver)
: Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.9
Web server : SunONE 6.1
Database Version : Oracle Database 10g Release 10.1.0.2.0 - 64bit
Physical RAM (for DB server) : 8Gb.
Physical RAM (for Web server):4 web server each of 4 GB
Connect descriptor used in webserver to connect to oracle:
We use JDBC connection pooling that comes with the web server(SunONE)
The details of the configuration are:
<JDBCCONNECTIONPOOL name="wbol-pool" datasourceclassname="oracle.jdbc.pool.OracleDataSource" steadypoolsize="8" maxpoolsize="100"
poolresizequantity="2" idletimeout="300" maxwaittime="180000" connectionvalidationrequired="off"

value="jdbc:oracle:thin:@{server ip}:1521:wborcle"/>
<PROPERTY name="User" value="username"/>
<PROPERTY name="Password" value="password"/>
</JDBCCONNECTIONPOOL>
Database is running in Shared mode(with 4 dispatchers) but clients are connected through dedicated mode.
max_process = 810
cur_process = 349
in alert.log file i have seen below error :-
Process q000 started up but failed with error = 20

After every hours our DEV Relay server hangs and stops responding.
There are no errors received when relay server URL is used but response takes unlimited time.
http://servername.com/ias_relay_server/client/rs_client.dll
To resolve this issue each time we need to reset the IIS so that all application pools are restarted. After this it works OK for a while but later it get stuck again.
Could you please advise
1) If this is a known issue ?
2) How and where to check what is the exact error ?
3) What could be the issue here ?I found few more error while I am working on your suggestion to check ports.

Can you suggest any pointers for these error. That would be great. You have been a great help. -
We have several machines that have exhibited this behavior so far. Once they get into this state, the only option is to reboot. They are HP ProLiant BL460c G7 blades.
The behavior exhibited is:
You can no longer RDP to the machine. It just eventually times out.
Console access via iLO shows what you'd expect, asking for CTRL+ALT+DEL, but when you press that, it just goes to the dark blue screen with "Windows Server 2012 R2" written at the bottom and doesn't go further.
There doesn't seem to be any unusual notes in the System Log that I can see.I've also read the support article that you linked, but that seems to suggest that there is always a problem with RDP and in this case the server gets to a point where it is stuck and requires a reboot to clear.
Hi Mitch,
For the above line of yours seems there is some misunderstanding, as nowhere in the link provided it suggest to restart\reboot the server. But instead need to check the certificate related scenario.
Can you ping the destination server when you can’t perform RDP?
Now for more troubleshooting you can choose performance monitor and can see what is effecting, for that you can go through beneath article.
