Server Migration - Mail Problems

We currently have a PowerMac G5 (Server 10.5.2) that hosts our email, DNS, DHCP, and LDAP. We purchased a Xserve and have migrated our DCHP, DNS, and LDAP perfectly through the Server Admin tool, but how to we move our mail store from one machine to the other? We tried tar-balling the /var/spool/imap directory and moving it the other machine, but it didn't take. What are we missing here?

Since I tried some more stuff on the weekend and ran into more troubles, I decided to reinstall the Leopard server from scratch again. Did it yesterday, updated via Software update, connected the SAN, ran the "Mail Server" setup assistant and pointed the directory again to our iSCSI SAN.
I once again get the same error messages, nothing "tweaked" in the mail settings, this is still the clean, brand-new server:
mail.log just says:
Mar 11 07:38:56 knserver postfix/postfix-script[19094]: fatal: the Postfix mail system is not running
system.log:
Mar 11 07:55:03 knserver cyrus-quota[20499]: DBERROR db4: PANIC: fatal region error detected; run recovery

Mar 11 07:55:38 knserver master[20505]: process started
The mail directories are created via the Finder, the user-rights look alright. I even ran "mailbfr -f" on the empty database...
What to do?
Is there anything to be careful about the path to the db??
Does Apple really deliver a non working mail-server??
Please help!

  • Server migration tool problem

I'm trying to migrate a Windows 2003 SP2 (R1) to Server 2012 Essentials.  It won't allow migration until the Server Migration Tool is run on the old server.  However, it stops at the beginning of the process with an error that the DFS Replication
service is not running.  But as far as I know, the DFS Replication service did not exist until Server 2003 R2.  How can I get around this?
    Thanks for any help.

  • Server migration - any problems with services?

    Hi everyone
I wanted to know if someone knows a good approach to migrate SL 10.6 from one system to a new system. Especially, I would like to know how I can migrate the Open Directory information so that I can use the new server as Open Directory. Can I use the Migration Assistant and just copy the user accounts?

Hi, I've recently migrated from OSX 10.4.11 to 10.6.2, and with some pain!
The migration assistant worked great for OpenDirectory settings, in fact all my mac clients had no issues at all, the problem was with the samba settings. I've finally managed to solve the problem (practically from the Windows machines users could not authenticate against the domain).
I've detailed all my findings in this post:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11291721#11291721
    hope it helps...

  • Smtp-server (outgoing mail) problem on MAIL

Time Warner/road runner technician cannot figure out m youtgoing (smtp) email connection. No way of authenticating the smtp-server.nyc.rr.com. The Apple=software on my new Mac mini is too advanced for TW help site. They told me to solve "smtp-server problem" though MAC mini help site.
How can I get the smtp server to work so that I can send out my emails on my mac-MAIL program
    Irene Schmied

what is the smtp server info they have told you to use?
in Mail>preferences>accounts, make sure your TW account is selected in the left hand side of the window, then go to the Account Information tab, then go to the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) option at the bottom of that window, click on it, and go to Edit Server List, what is showing as server name? an if you click on Advanced, what is the server port, is SSL checked, and is authentication set to password, and if so do you have the user name and password entered?
    let me know

  • The solution to our SMTP server / outgoing mail problem

Recent security-related revisions to our ISP's system (ATT-YAhoo) have required users to verify 3rd party e-mail accounts.
We learned, after several weeks and dozens of false starts, that the characters in Apple mail's account information fields (accessed via mail preferences: i.e. the Description field, e-mail address, user name, etc.) ** must be entered in lower case **
Upper case characters will generate a "rejected by server" error message. Eliminating upper case characters from all of these fields corrected what had become an extremely frustrating problem.

    Thanks for the tip!

  • Lion server migration from 10.6 wiki dead, mail dead, ical dead

i have a mac mini w leopard server- everything worked perfect
i upgrade and migrated to lion server
nothing working, wiki, mail, or icalendar
    any ideas-
other than going back to restore of timemachine of leopard server
    thanx

One thing that jumps out from your brief description of the problem is a bug in the persent iteration of Lion Server that occurs when the "Dedicate system resources to server services" box is checked (or, honestly, when it's unchecked too -- read on).  This is located within Server.app.  in the left pane, select your machine under the hardware section.  The second tab, settings, contains this option.  I'd try either ticking or unticking the box and then restarting and then trying to start those services again.  Though the bug was initially reported as related to this similar problem (the one you describe) occurring when this box is checked, I've found that toggling between on to off, or off to on (depending on the current state) and then restarting, seems to help get things going again.  Sometimes this has to be done twice.  As well, until Apple issues a fix for these Server.app related problems, it's best, once you get your server configured, to keep from opening Server.app when possible.  Just opening it seems to cause problems.  One example of this is checking the mail quota box and entering a value.  It seems to stick fine, but when Server.app is opened again, the box is unchecked once again.  This one happens every time.

  • Migrate mail server from 10.5 to 10.6

I have managed to migrate all accounts from 10.5 to 10.6 using this command:
    sudo /usr/libexec/dovecot/migratemaildata.pl --moveMail 0 --cyrusBin "/Volumes/ServerHD/usr/bin/cyrus/bin" --database "/Volumes/ServerHD/MailServer/imap" --sourceSpool "/Volumes/ServerHD/MailServer/imap/" --targetSpool "/var/spool/imap/dovecot/mail"
all the accounts now are showing under Server Admin-Mail-Maintenance-Accounts
but when i try to connect from a client machine to setup the email, it connects fine.. but none of the emails showing up in my inbox!..
i can also send emails with no problems, but i cannot receive emails.. here is the SMTP error log:

  • Problems after print server migration to Windows Server 2008 R2

    Hi all,
New forum member, first time poster. I am at my wits end and have concussion from banging my head on the desk for several days running. Hopefully someone here may be able to help.
    Environment
I have recently moved our printing environment from a Windows Server 2003 machine to a new Server 2008 R2 machine in prep for rolling out Windows 7 x64 clients. We have 30-40 printers, majority of which are HP's (M2727's, P4015dn's, CM3530's, P2035's & a CM8060).
My procedure for setting up the printers on the new server involved manually creating each printer and using up-to-date drivers, we wanted to start fresh. The HP's are all using the HP Universal PCL 5 or PCL 6 (61.115.1.10527) x86 & x64 driver. We use Desktop Authority on logon to install the required printers for each client.
    Problems
Since everyone is now running through the 2008 R2 server we have had a bunch of intermittent problems pop up all over the place, mostly with our HP printers. When using the PCL6 driver some applications print a page or 10 of garbled gibberish (wingdings etc), so most printers are now using the PCL5 driver. Other applications print the error "PCL XL error" when using PCL6. Sometimes reinstalling the printer on the client machine will resolve these errors, however they tend to resurface.
When we use the PCL5 driver our M2727's intermittently report "Out Of Memory" on the printer display (they are stock with 64M RAM each) - upgrading the RAM may fix this but we never had this problem before on the 2003 server. This problem is not specific to the size of the printed document - it could be a 20 page report or a 2 page excel document. Resetting the printer will generally clear this issue temporarily. This is currently our most annoying/biggest issue.
Some people are having issues printing to a FujiXerox 340A-AP printer - in particular 1 person is able to print fine, where as another prints and the print margin appears to be far too small. After confirming all print margins on the server then reinstalling the printer on the client machine, the problem still persists. We have two FujiXerox printers, the second one is working as intended for 8-10 users with the exact same settings.
    Attempted Fixes
These are some of the attempted fixes that I have tried:
    Turning it off and on
Upgrading the firmware on the M2727's to resolve garbled printing & out of memory
Upgrading the firmware on the CM3530's to resolve garbled printing
Reinstalling all HP Universal PCL5/PCL6 x86 & x64 drivers on the print server
Ensuring that the 2008 R2 server is 100% up-to-date with MS patches
Backing up all printers on print server, removing the print server role, deleting all printers & drivers, rebooting, reinstalling the print server role and restoring all printers from backup
Upgraded Desktop Authority to the latest version - as this application is in charge of installing the printers on logon
As you can see we are having a lot of problems and nothing seems to make any sense. None of this happened before Windows Server 2008 R2 was brought in to the equation.
If anyone is able to provide any assistance that would be greatly appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Hartz.
tldr; our printers are screwed since migrating to Windows Server 2008 R2.

  • Mail problem accessing Novell POP server

This one is both complicated and puzzling, and I sure would appreciate a solution.
We use Novell Groupwise for email. It allows both POP and IMAP access.
Two weeks ago, I stopped being able to access mail from the servers using either POP or IMAP from both home and office. Simultaneously, almost. At home I was using Mail, at the office Eudora.
After the usual tinkering, I got both home and office working with Mail through POP. That lasted a few days.
Yesterday, POP stopped working at the office. Then, at one point, it worked, and the day's mail came in all at once. Then it stopped working. I went home. I got a lot of mail when I checked in. Then it stopped. Today, I've gotten no mail at the office from the POP server.
Mail is communicating with the server. When I put the wrong password in, it lets me know it was not accepted. I don't get that message with the right password.
My IT people say the mail server is functioning properly, and that no one else who uses Mail is having similar problems. I've checked all the settings, and they are as they should be.
    I recently upgraded to 10.4.1.11.
Does this sound like a problem anyone has seen before?

Thanks to infinite vortex.  Changing the frequency from five to fifteen minutes seems to have solved the problem, at least so far.  Curious--but not surprising--that I could find nothing about such a limit anywhere on Cox's web site, nor was this mentioned by their tech support in a series of exchanges trying to resolve the problem.

  • Windows mail server migration

    Hi all,
I have a client who wants to migrate his windows mail server to Mac OS X Tiger. Is it possible? If yes, how?
    Thanks in advance
    regards,
    Pradeep
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

We migrated from MS Exchange 2000 to OS X Server Mail, just 15 users but tons of gigabytes of mail. What i did:
-set up IMAP on Exchange 2000 (we already used it), all mail has to be stored on the server
-set up Mail Service on OS X
-set up User Accounts on OSX Server, activated Mail for each user
-synced each user account from an OS X client computer using "imapsync". It works like an IMAP client copying all mail to the new mail server, it can keep the seen flag and does not produce duplicate mails. there is a description how to invoke imapsync automatically for a list of users.
-did a reconstruct -r on OS X Server to be sure the mailboxes are clean
you can get imapsync via darwinports.
    it's worth the work...

  • MAIL problem - telefonica smtp outgoing server

First sorry this is on the safari board. Couldn't find the one for mail!
I am on holiday and the ISP I can find (public) is Telefonica. I have tried the standard smtp outgoing server (smtp.telefonica.net) but even on this I keep getting a "address rejected by server'. I've tried different servers but I think telefonica is fairly tight about that sort of stuff. I think the problem is a password and username is needed however I can't get these.
Is there any way around this, perhaps setting up a personal smtp server, or someway of bypassing their outgoing mail restrictions? This is my first mac so I'm a little bit stuck...
    hope you can help!

Ok fixed it. For anyone else having the problem of a not being able to send outgoing mail with a public ISP do the following.
    1) setup a gmail account and record password and username.
    2) Set up a new server in mail: "mail/preferences/accounts/outgoingmail server (drop down)/edit server list"
    3) add a new server by clicking on 'plus'
    4) server name is 'smtp.gmail.com'. check 'use custom port' and enter 587. check use ssl box.
    5) in Authentication drop down, choose password then enter your gmail username and password.
All this worked for me after fannying around with loads and loads of far more complicated things! Hope this helps someone like it did me!

  • With the mail problem at hand, can I relay mail through a 10.4 server?

I read all the post and get worried not to have my mail running on 10.5. The question is, can I use an other 10.4 server that is standing here around and handles print and file sharing for the network to host also mail. I was hoping I can set on the main server the mail server domain to the 10.4 server.
I just don't know if this is possible and if so, how?
    Thanks,
    Dave

i got a workaround. just linked to an outside zimbra server and all mails are working. I guess we'll have to wait until this is fixed.

    Hi bestrongself,
According to your error message, we need to verify if you configure SQL Server Database Mail to send email successfully by using your Windows Live Mail account or your mail account. If yes, then you choose use database mail to send a job fail error message
or others. We need to verify if your job owner account which used does have permissions. Check the job owner and the user being for the Agent service has SQL Server admin rights. Add the dbo_owner role to the Job Owner via SQL Server Management Studio.
There is an similar error about data jobs fail message, you can review the following article.
    https://support.software.dell.com/capacity-manager-for-sql-server/kb/51365
There is an example configuring SQL Server Database Mail to send email, you can review the following blog.

  • Issues with a email server migration - URGENT HELP PLEASE

    Hi,
My online company uses TB and we recently changed our email server provider to resolve a serious problem we were having with the previous one. Both servers (old and new) are IMAP.
The problem is that since we have made this server migration we are having a lot of strange things happening on TB such as:
    1. When I mark a email read I can no longer mark it as unread. I've tried to click on the little ball, to select 'Mark as unread' by clicking on the right side of the mouse, etc and nothing!
    2. When I reply and forward an email the reply and forward arrow is not showing up so sometimes we don't know what emails have been done
    3. Sometimes the emails are sent and don't show up in the sent folder. So we need to put our own email in BCC to be sure that they have been answered.
The guy who organised the server migration suggested us to move to outlook, but outlook is not resolving the problem either. On top of that it makes our computers as slow as snails. I'm on a free trial with outlook that will expire in two days and I want to go back to TB as I find it much easier and straight forward.
Has anyone have a similar issue? Can someone HELP please?
    Many thanks in advance.

    item 2 see screenshots
No clue on other issues Just remember that your old e-mails are not on your new server.

  • Migrate mail from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5

I have an extremely simple requirement, to manually migrate my mail from Snow leopard (10.6.8) to Lion (10.7.5). Explaining my situation below-
I have an iMac(originally 10.6.8) and for multiple reasons, I chose to upgrade to Lion (10.7.5) rather than Mountain Lion. From snow leopard I have taken each and every type of back in the form of the folders and attached prefernce files, for example, as a backup of keychains, I have the keychains folder from the main library as well as the user library, similarly for address book, safari and mail. So in case of mail, I have copied, the mail folder from the main library, mail and mail downloads folder from the user library and the com.apple.mail.plist from the preferences folder in the user library. After taking the said backups I have formatted my machine and installed the operating system lion, 10.7.5
Listing details of mail accounts, I have five live(Microsoft, live, outlook, hotmail, whatever you call them) accounts and one solitary gmail account. All these accounts are on POP protocol(simply because I want/need a copy of mails, communications and downloaded attachments to be on the mail server for emergency situations(such as this))
Now the issues begin, speaking strictly in terms of mail. Listing steps taken and their results,
    1) Action - Followed the direct copy method listed in the link, (http://macs.about.com/b/2011/08/05/moving-your-snow-leopard-mail-to-lion.htm)
Copied the following folders, mail folder from main library(I.e. under macintosh hd), mail and mail downloads folder from the user library, com.apple.plist from the preferences folder in the user library. Note. a) this is a fresh install of lion, the mail app hasn't been executed even once. b) I deleted the v2 folder already located inside the mail folder in the user library, because it was suggested in the comments section in the link above.
Result - After the said process, I started mail(for the first time) mail detected the old structure, said it needed to reindex. After the process I could see all my accounts, all my mail, smart folders, all the attachments... Blissful. "BUT!!" when I hit get new mail, the mess begins. Mail starts to "RE" download ALL the mails AGAIN, 8000 mails, 7.5 gb worth of attachments.
    2) Action - after the above debacle, quit mail and studied its folder structures in the user library as well as the main library, compared this folder structure of my snow leopard mail backup and manually tried COPYING ".mbox" in their respective new folder locations. Eg. Copied, "inbox.mbox" of account "x" from my snow leopard backup to the newly created folder structure in lion (I.e. inside the v2 folder, inside the account x folder.) also copied each individual preference file like MailAccounts.plist and all and copied them to their new location.
Result - the above process was an even bigger disaster. It corrupted my basic mail app. I had to perform an erase and reinstall the os.
    3) action - after the fresh reinstall, and doing further research, I set up accounts INDIVIDUALLY (I.e. via Add account) this time "importing" each individual mailboxes via import command, once imported, I placed the emails contained within, to their respective inboxes.
Result - the above process too shows all my mails again, but when I hit get new mail, mail starts to redownload the **** mails from the server AGAIN!!
I have tried the above processes umpteen number of times in different variations, such as only one account at a time or importing only one inbox at a time. Still no luck. This a very frustrating issue. I have been manually migrating mail for the past 5 years. This new v2 folder is ******* everything up.
Note. Checked "duplicate mails" in lion help, which told me that duplicate mails get downloaded via the POP protocol if coming from an older version of OSx.
So is there a way I can make my mail lion compatible? Some software, some plugin? The entire world seemed to migrate mail, why not me?
A solution would be divine, as I am a designer with live projects and attachments stuck in the mail... Temporarily using mail from my iPad as my main machine which also has started acting like a ***** after ios 7, which is another headache all together.
Need help please, anyone on the forum with knowledge on how to solve this issue would have a special place in my heart besides a million thanks in advance.
    Thanks a million in advance,
    Abu Suda.

Try reindexing the mailbox. This can take awhile if you have a lot of mail.
    Reindex messages.
If that doesn't work try deleting MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.
    Quit the application.
You need to look in your user Library. Either hold down the option key while using the Finder “Go To Folder” command and select your user Library in your home folder or use the Finder “Go To Folder” command and enter ~/Library/Mail/V2/Mail Data/MessageUidsAlreadyDownloaded3.  Move the file to your desktop.
Open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the file from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return thefile to where you got it from, overwriting the newer ones.
If you prefer to make your User library permanently visible, use the Terminal command found below.
    Show User Library
You might want to bookmark the command. I had to use it again after I installed 10.8.5. I have also been informed that if you drag the user library to Finder it will remain visible.
