Server Monitor Email Notification settings

Ciao!
Email notification settings in Server Monitor, how does this work and needs to be setup?
Do I have setup a email account in the Server to use this feature or do I just enter the following fields:
From:
To:
and the server does the rest, which I can't believe. :?
Thanks for any help!

I believe the answer is yes: you do not need an email account set up for the notifications to be sent out, and they will come from whatever email domain you specify in the "From:" field.

  • Mitigation Monitor Email Notification

    Hi experts,
    When the mitigation monitor doesn't run the report for a specific period of time, or anything changes in the assignation period, then he gets a alert notification. can any one please tell, where it is defined like 1. what are the workflow(where it is defined), 2)Format of the Email, the monitor"ll get.
    As of my understanding it should take the format from the email reminder from the CUP work flow.. but not sure, because in my system  it is using a different format, while sending email notification to the mitigation monitor. Can any one please clarify?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Gurugobinda

    Hi Gurugobinda,
    RAR alert notification functionality doesn't use any of CUP workflows, instead based on Configuration of Risk owner / mitigating control approver email address, RAR sends notification email to them. As Alpesh said, format of alert notification email is hardcoded in RAR.
    CUP workflows are used by RAR for different purpose like approval for RIsk, Mitigating Control maintenance or assignment of mitigating control to a user, role or profile.

  • SAP Web Dispatcher Monitoring: Email notification

    Hi,
    Is there any utility or tools around where we can get email notification if SAP Web Dispatcher is down?
    I am looking for a more proactive way of monitoring SAP Web Dispatcher.
    Thanks.

    You can use GRMG Lite:

  • Server Monitor Version 1.6.1 (2) won't send email notification

    I am running Server Monitor Version 1.6.1 (2) on a Mac Pro 10.5.8. It is monitoring an Intel XServe 10.5.8 and a Dual G5 XServe 10.4.11.
    I had a bad UPS and Server Monitor only emailed notification of the 10.4.11 XServe going down but not about the 10.5.8 Intel XServe going down. I checked the log for the Intel XServe and it says, "Email notification could not be sent to ..."
    The email notification settings are the same for both Servers.
    Any ideas how to get email notification working for the Intel XServe.

    A little more info...
    Also, the G5 XServe uses it's actual IP address while the Intel XServe uses a different IP because of LOM.
    The G5 Xserve requires password authentication to change email settings while the Intel XServe does not.
    ANY suggestions here???
    Thanks!

  • Ical Server Snow Leopard email notification: just a clarification question.

    Hi,
    I succesfully installed my mac mini snow leo server.
    Our scenario: icalserver calendar is used by 4 clients in our network.
    ical server is running fine, but there is one thing I
    do not understand: the workflow of email notification.
    On the server I enabled email notification and set up an email adress [email protected] in Server Admin / Emailnotification.
    Then I created a test event in ical. I did not use the local calendar,
    I used the caldav calendar.
    Then I was wondering: why did mail start on mini server to send the invitation ?
    Email data is still stored in Server Admin / Email notification, so I assume email is sent independently in the backgound from any mail programm !??!
    It would be nice if anybody could give me any advice.
    Thanks

    Invitations are sent to external email recipients directly by the server posting them to a known mail queue, (probably in your case on the same mini). There is a calendar server manual online which explains, and calendarserver.org where the project is based. I was only able to make it work using the internal account names, not a friendly one I set up for the purpose.

  • Anyone having issue with email notification delay in ES4?

    After upgrade from ES2 to ES4, we're experiencing an email notification delay when a task is assigned to an individual or group queue. It's not consistent, but happen enough that we can some what replicate it. It's almost like an email notification from task assignment wouldn't send through until we kick off another process or claim another task. This happens with server default email notification as well as custom email notification. Please advise how I can go about trouble shooting this.

    This is what in the log at the time I ran the test process & email notification delay occured. Again, the email notification delay wasn't the issue when we were in ES2, until we upgraded to ES4 recently. The delay happens spontaneously, no specific pattern. Sometimes it'll arrive instantly and sometimes it will delay. However, when the notification delay occur, if I kick off another new process, the notification will come through.

  • Email Notifications for Collaboration Tasks are Not going to Lotus Notes

    Hello Everyone,
    Email Notifications for the Tasks in Collaboration are not going to Lotus Notes. We are working on EP 7.0 SP14 with external ITS and backend r/3 4.7.
    I performed all the configuration activities that are suggested in the below wiki:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/wiki?path=/pages/viewpage.action&pageId=61244035
    It was worked fine once for me when i perfomed the activities mentioned in the below thread:https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/thread?threadID=147316
    But after restarting our Portal Server the Email Notifications for Collaboration Tasks are not coming.
    Could any one please suggest that we need to do any other configurations.Thank you.

  • Content Server: Workflow Reject Notification

    When I approve content via content server workflow, email notifications are sent to the person in the next stage of the workflow process. But when I reject content a notification is not sent to the person in the previous step. Has anyone experienced this problem? If so, do you have any suggestions that I can use to resolve this issue?

    Sergio,
    Were you able to figure out why this was happening? I'm experiencing this problem myself. Another problem I'm having is when a step has multiple assignees, e-mails are being sent out to only one of the assignees. Let me know if you know about this one or figured out why rejection notifications were not being sent. Thanks,

  • Enter Email Notification Sender

    Hi ppl,
    in CUP (AC 5.3 Compliant User Provisioning (AE)), when configuring the SMTP server for Email notifications (Configuration -> Workflow -> SMTP Server), there is a check box for "Enter Email Notification Sender".  When you click this, a text box opens for entry of an email address (System Email ID).
    Do you know what the purpose of this field is?
    Many thanks,
    Babak

    Hi Babak,
       This was added in AC 5.3 SP2 or SP3. When CUP sends emails out, the From field in the email used to be last approver or requestor's name. This can create confusion among the receiver of the email.
    To remove this confusion, SAP added this field. Whichever email id you configure in this textbox would show up in the From field of the emails going out through CUP.

    Alpesh

  • Server Monitor Notification will NOT accept an outgoing email address

    Hi folks. I have a new XServer Xeon. Everything is working great, except for one maddening issue: When I use Server Monitor and go to set up notifications, the "send to" field will NOT accept any input at all...whether it's a bonafide email address or just any old text typing. Nada. I can seem to enter all other info like the "from" field, and the buttons work....just can't add any addresses to send notifications to. Any ideas? I'm hoping this is a "duh" moment for me and not a real issue.
    Thanks!

    Daddy
    I have quite a few Xserve's (G4, G5) running Email notification from Server monitor without mail services running.
    It appears to be a problem with the new Intel's version of Server monitor, I cannot get SM to accept any email addresses either, it will also not remember other settings between launches.
    I have submitted a bug report with Appple through ADC on this.
    FYI if you setup lights out management on another IP on Xserve and connect server monitor to that IP from another machine you can add email addresses but when hardware events occur on Xserve no emails are sent!
    So IMHO server monitor V1.5 is broken right now, only good for manually monitoring the hardware.
    If I get an answer from Apple I will post it in this category

  • Email notification not working from Server Monitor (for power outages etc.)

    I have my email address entered in the notifications fields for power on Server Monitor. I tried pulling the plug (it's on a UPS), which it did notice but it never sent any emails. How do I debug this? Where is the SMTP settings or whatever is needed? Have people gotten the email notifications from Server Monitor to work?

    Have you checked your mail filter, maybe the notification got mistakenly marked as spam ?
    thank you for your reply! Is this working for you - are you getting notifications? My spam folder doesn't have any of these. Where did you set up the SMTP info for this? I don't see this anywhere. On the web, at
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA21298?viewlocale=en_US
    it looks like you have to tell it how to send the emails in Message.framework:
    The Message.framework looks in two places for a way to send email. The first
    is that it looks for an SMTP server configured in the Email tab of Internet
    preferences. The other way is to use an email account configured in Mail.
    the question is, which user's .plist file for internet preferences or for Mail - which user's info is it using to send the notifications?

  • SharePoint Foundation 2013 installed on Windows Server 2012 not sending out email notification

    I have a server where i installed SP Foundation 2013 on top of Windows Server 2012. I have configured the SMTP as well as the outgoing SMTP in Central Administration
    of SharePoint. When i create an alert on a document library, its did not sent any email notification on the changes made to the document in the document library. So, i created a workflow to send out email using SPD2013. The workflow run, but it cannot sent
    out email with error saying that outgoing email is not configured correctly. I have checked with another server which i installed SP foundation 2013 on top of Windows Server 2008 R2 - its sending out email just fine using same configuration and outgoing SMTP.
    I need help to resolve this issue or at least the cause of the problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Try below:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/13771.troubleshooting-steps-for-sharepoint-alert-email-does-not-go-out.aspx
    Go to Central Admin ---->Operations----->outgoing email settings and verify that SMTP server is mentioned correctly
    2) Test the connectivity with the SMTP server.
    In order to do that follow these steps:
      Open  cmd
      telnet <SMTP server name> 25 ( We connect smtp server to the port 25)
                     you should see a response  like this 220 <servername> Microsoft ESMTP MAIL Service, Version: 6.0.3790.3959 ready at date and time
                     Beware that different servers will come up with different settings but you will get something
                     If you dont get anything then there could be 2 possible reasons, either port 25 is blocked or
                     the smtp server is not responding.
      For testing response from your server
                       For testing response say ehlo to it.
                            Type :
                                        ehlo <servername>
                            output:
                                        250 <servername> Hello [IP Address]
      Now a test mail can be sent from that SharePoint server.
                          Now we need to enter the From address of the mail.
                          Type :
                           mail from: [email protected]
                           output:
                           250 2.1.0 [email protected]….Sender OK
     It's time to enter the recepient email address.
    Type : rcpt to: [email protected]
    output:
    250 2.1.5 [email protected]
     Now we are left with the data of the email. i.e. subject and body.
    Type : data
    output:
    354 Start mail input; end with <CRLF>.<CRLF>
    Type:
    subject: this is a test mail
    Hi
    This is test mail body
    I am testing SMTP server.
    Hit Enter, then . and then Enter.
    output:
    250 2.6.0 <<servername>C8wSA00000006@<servername>> Queued mail for delivery
    Type: quit
    output:
    221 2.0.0 <servername> Service closing transmission channe
    3)  Check alerts are enabled for your web application
          verify if the windows timer service is running or not.
          Run this stsadm command to check that
          Stsadm.exe -o getproperty -url http://SharePoint-web-App-URL -pn alerts-enabled
         This should return <Property Exist="Yes" Value="yes" />
         If you don’t get this, Enable alerts by:
         stsadm.exe -o setproperty -pn alerts-enabled -pv "true" -url http://SharePoint-web-App-URL
          If its already enabled, try turn off and turn on it back.
    4)  Check the Timer job and Properties
           Go to
           MOSS 2007:  Central Administration > Operations > Timer Job Definitions (under Global Configuration)
           In SharePoint 2010: Central Administration > Monitoring > Review Job Definitions
           Check whether the "Immediate Alerts" job is enabled for your web application. check these properties:
                       job-immediate-alerts
                       job-daily-alerts
                       job-weekly-alerts
           stsadm.exe -o getproperty -url "http://Your-SharePoint-web-App-URL" -pn job-immediate-alerts
           The expected output is:
           <Property Exist="Yes" Value="every 5 minutes between 0 and 59"/>.
           If you don’t get this, run the following command to set its value.
           stsadm.exe -o setproperty -pn job-immediate-alerts -pv “every 5 minutes between 0 and 59" -url http://Your-SharePoint-web-App-URL
    5)  Check whether the account is subscribed for alerts and it has a valid email account. This should be the first thing to check if the problem persists for some users not for      all.
    6)  Then check if at all those users have at least read permission for the list. Because the first mail should go out for every user without security validation but the next ones       won't be delivered unless the user has at least read
    permission.
    7)  If it is happening for one user, can also try to delete and re add the user in the site.
    8)  Most importantly , you should try this one.
          Run this SQL query to the content db < Select * from Timerlock>
          This will give you the name of the server which is locking the content database and since when.
          In order to get rid of that lock
          Go to that server which is locking the content db and then restart the windows timer service.
          within some time it should release the lock from content db, if not then at the most stop the timer job for some time
          Once the lock will be released then try to send some alerts
          You will surely get the email alert.
    I found this is the most probable reason for alert not working most of the time. We should start troubleshooting with above steps before coming to this step for any alert email issue but from step 1 to step 7 are best for new environments or new servers.
    If the issue is like this ,alert was working before and suddenly stopped working without any environmental change then above conditions in step 1-7 should be ideally fine.
    Even after this if it is not working, then you can try these few more steps too
    9)  Try re-registering the alert template:
    stsadm -o updatealerttemplates -url http://Your-SharePoint-Web-App-URL -f  "c:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\web server extensions\12\TEMPLATE\XML\alerttemplates.xml" -LCID 1033
    10)  Try to clear the configuration cache

  • HOW TO: Relay/Send email from websites, Server Monitor in OS 10.5 Server

    If you don't want to run your own mail server or configure DNS on your Xserve, but you still want your website or applications like Server Monitor to send email notifications; this is what you need to do:
    Scenario: Mac OS 10.5.2 Leopard - Advanced Configuration - Setup is for strictly sending emails through SMTP, routed through your ISP or another provider. This is not for receiving emails.
    -Open up Server Admin
    If you have yet to add in a server to admin, you need to do so. Resource PDFs on setting up OS X Server are available at Apple http://www.apple.com/server/macosx/resources/ and there are video tutorials at http://movielibrary.lynda.com/html/modPage.asp?ID=373
    -Click on your server, then choose the Settings button
    -Then choose Services from the Tabs/Buttons below
    -Select the Mail checkbox and then hit Save
    -Now choose the newly added Mail service in the left pane, then click the Settings button up top
    -Start with the Advanced tab. Under Security, un-check everything and don't use SSL unless you want to. You don't need to mess with the other sub-tabs here.
    -Next choose the Logging Tab. Under SMTP log level, choose debug so you will be able to see what goes on in the log.
    -Mailing List, Quotas and Filters tabs can go untouched. You can mess with them later if you want.
    -Click the Relay tab. It is a good idea to only accept relays from your local machine. If you uncheck this, I believe it leaves you with an open relay that anybody can access.
    -Now for the General Tab. Under Domain Name put anything you want. Any made up name and extension is fine.
    Under Host Name, again put anything you want.
    Un-check Enable POP, Un-check Enable IMAP - Basically un-check everything
    Check or leave checked Enable SMTP
    Now check Relay outgoing mail through host:
    Then enter your hosts SMTP server. ex. smtpout.secureserver.net
    Now check Authenticate to relay with user name: and enter your username and password
    -Now hit the Save button
    -Now we need to take a look at the main.cf file and add a few things
    -If you aren't showing all files in Finder already, open up Terminal.app
    Now type in: defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles True
    Hit enter
    Now type in: killall Finder
    Now Finder should reset and all files should be visible - To hide all files, do the same thing but type False
    -Now open Macintosh HD and navigate to /private/etc/postfix/main.cf (Note: you won't be able to open and edit this in TextEdit. I recommend a program like TextWrangler http://www.barebones.com/products/textwrangler/download.shtml )
    -Once you have main.cf open, all your settings should be together at the bottom of the doc. Scroll down. You will need to add in a few lines and verify all the settings are exactly as below (except of course your own names and SMTP server):
    readme_directory = /usr/share/doc/postfix
    mydomain_fallback = anything.anyting
    messagesizelimit = 0
    myhostname = anything.anything
    mailbox_transport = cyrus
    mydomain = anything.anything
    mailboxsizelimit = 0
    enableserveroptions = yes
    inet_interfaces = all
    relayhost = smtpout.secureserver.net
    smtpsasl_passwordmaps = hash:/etc/postfix/sasl/passwd
    smtpsasl_authenable = yes
    smtpdsasl_authenable = no
    smtpsasl_securityoptions =
    smtpduse_pwserver = no
    smtpdrecipientrestrictions = permitmynetworks,reject_unauthdestination,permit
    smtpdpw_server_securityoptions = none
    -Now save the main.cf document
    -Now go back to Macintosh HD and navigate to /private/etc/postfix/sasl/passwd
    Open passwd with TextWrangler or you editing app, and verify that your SMTP server, username and password are correct. It should look something like this:
    smtpout.secureserver.net [email protected]:password
    -This should be what you entered in Server Admin when you first started. If all is well, quit your editing app.
    -Now, while you are still at /private/etc/postfix/sasl/passwd you need to edit permissions for passwd
    You can chmod in Terminal.app or secondary click on passwd and "Get Info"
    Click the lock and enter your password to unlock the settings
    Next click the + button and add yourself and Admin
    -Now you can close out of everything and go back to Server Admin
    -Hit the Reload (twisty arrow) button at the bottom and once everything is reloaded, hit Start Mail
    -Now type localhost in your browser to see if your website can send email. You can also open up other apps such as Server Monitor and do something to change the status to have it send an email.
    -You can click on Mail in the Server Admin and then view the SMTP log. As long as emails are being sent and then removed from the queue, you are in good shape. If you are getting an SASL error or mechanism error, open up main.cf and verify your settings and/or check permissions on passwd file

    Don't you need the Mail service running to have apps like Server Monitor send email notifications? - Also for hosted sites that use the sendmail function you need a service running to get the emails sent.
    Really you are not hosting a Mail server. It is open, but there is no incoming and if you only accept SMTP relays from the local machine, there should be no issues.

  • Server Monitor Notifications - Drive Status Changed - Time Machine

    I'm using an Xserve as a file server for a small workgroup . It has a Raid 1 set which is being backed up via Time Machine to an attached disk array.
    Whenever Time Machine runs (every hour), I get two notifications from Server Monitor that the drive status has changed:
    *Reason(s) for notification:*
    *Drive status changed*
    The timestamps on the notifications coincide with these messages in system.log
    Feb 2 11:28:05 ciesaxserve2 Server Monitor[854]: * _NSSocket.m:243 read() failed; socket=0x197060 error=(NSPOSIXErrorDomain,61)
    Feb 2 11:28:05 ciesaxserve2 Server Monitor[854]: * _NSSocket.m:243 write() failed; socket=0x197060 error=(NSPOSIXErrorDomain,61)
    Feb 2 11:28:05 ciesaxserve2 Server Monitor[854]: * _NSSocket.m:243 read() failed; socket=0x2090e90 error=(NSPOSIXErrorDomain,61)
    Feb 2 11:28:05 ciesaxserve2 Server Monitor[854]: * _NSSocket.m:243 write() failed; socket=0x2090e90 error=(NSPOSIXErrorDomain,61)
    and:
    Feb 2 11:28:55 ciesaxserve2 servermgrd[78]: servermgr_backup: TimeMachinePostBackupHook called.
    Feb 2 11:28:55 ciesaxserve2 servermgrd[78]: servermgr_backup: TimeMachinePostBackupHook done.
    The notifications simply report that all is normal, and the number of available drives goes from 6, to 7, back to 6. Something to do with making the backup volume available, I presume.
    I would like to disable these specific messages. I realize I can disable all messages from server monitor regarding disk statuses, but then I would be turning off messages about failures and actual problems.
    Is there a config I can edit which will only alert me to actual problems? I'd like to stop getting 48 emails each day; reduce the noise and increase the signal.

    I know this post is old but this has recently cropped up for me. I have been backing up with Time Machine for months without a single alert. It started happening after I replaced the failed battery on my RAID card. A coincidence...however the prolonged down time surely caused an SMC (and perhaps PRAM) reset which I assume triggered the change in behavior.
    I've pinned it down to Time Machine backing up service settings, in particular the Open Directory archive. Time Machine backs up all the service data independently from the rest of the data on your server startup volume.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5139
    You can see this data in Terminal.
    serveradmin$ cd /Volumes/[YourBackupVolume]/Backups.backupdb/[YourServerName]/Latest/[YourBootVolume]/.ServerBackups
    serveradmin$ ls -al
    total 16
    drwxr-xr-x@  2 root  admin    68  4 Jun 14:44 (null)
    drwxr-xr-x@ 14 root  admin   476  4 Jun 14:44 .

    -rw-r--r--@  1 root  admin  3826  4 Jun 14:44 master.browse.plist
    drwxr-xr-x@  4 root  admin   136  4 Jun 14:43 openDirectory
    drwxr-xr-x@ 61 root  admin  2074  4 Jun 14:44 serverSettings
    drwxr-xr-x@ 23 root  admin   782  4 Jun 14:44 sharePoints
    drwxr-xr-x@  8 root  admin   272  4 Jun 14:44 webServer
    drwxr-xr-x@  2 root  admin    68  4 Jun 14:44 wikiServer
    If you take a look inside the openDirectory folder you should see this:
    serveradmin$ cd openDirectory
    serveradmin$ ls -al
    total 81936
    drwxr-xr-x@  4 root  admin       136  4 Jun 15:32 .
    drwxr-xr-x@ 14 root  admin       476  4 Jun 15:33 ..
    -rw-rw----@  1 root  admin  41947136  4 Jun 15:32 ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage
    -rw-r--r--@  1 root  admin       249  4 Jun 15:32 openDirectory.browse.plist
    The ServerBackup_OpenDirectoryMaster.sparseimage contains an archive of your Open Directory database like the one you create from Server Admin. The only difference is that it appears to be unencrypted. This is a bit worrying since Snow Leopard, as far as I know, does not have an option to encrypt your Time Machine backup. This image seems to invisibly mount whenever a Time Machine backup is triggered. This can be verified by checking /private/var/log/system.log and filtering for backup
    serveradmin$ tail -b 100 /var/log/system.log | grep backup

    You can see at 16:00:56 Server Manager got a call from Time Machine to start the services backup and finished at 16:09:26. Open Directory would have been backed up during that process. Take a look at /private/var/log/hwmond.log
    serveradmin$ tail /private/var/log/hwmond.log
    Tue Jun  4 16:08:36 BST 2013 - Number of drives change from 4 to 5.
    Tue Jun  4 16:08:48 BST 2013 - Number of drives change from 5 to 4.
    You'll see that both drive change warnings from Server Monitor occured just before the services backup completed. You can also use the sudo diskarbitrationd -d command along with tail /private/var/log/diskarbitrationd.log in another terminal window, trigger a Time Machine backup manually and watch this disk image mount during the backup process. Compare the mount times with the above logs to see if they all match up.
    Although I have discovered the cause (which thankfully seems harmless) I have not discovered a way to stop it from generating pointless alerts. I'll post here if I figure it out. I am in the process of upgrading all of my servers to Mountain Lion so it may be a moot point. I am hopeful this information may help someone out there even though it is thoroughly out of date.
