Server monitor reporting a memory error
Every 10 mins or so, Server monitor flashes a red dot on Memory Slot 2 (dot number 3 on the status screen) on our Intel XServe. There is an Apple supplied 1024MB (1 gig) chip in there, ECC DDR2 FB-DIMM
It reports...
ECC Error # 1
It flashes for about 10 mins or so and then goes back to green.
Any idea what this is? Is it a dodgy chip that I need to replace or is it the EEC doing it's thing and correcting a memory error?

Both.
The upshot is that the DIMM is having problems, however, the problems are within the ECC's ability to correct, so it's not impacting the server's performance.
It's not uncommon to find a few ECC errors over time, but if the number of errors is increasing every 10 minutes or so (as opposed to just staying the same) then it indicates enough of a problem that I'd look to replace the DIMM ASAP.

Report with more than 600 kb image - BO Server getting Out Of memory Error

We have a report which displays images and size is above 600 KB.We are getting an "Out Of memory" Error while previewing this report in Business Object Server.
In another situation we tried by giving a dynamic path to the OLE object, but the report is not showing error. We are not able to view the image whose size is more than 600KB

Crystal report 9 memory error.
we are using crystal report 9 with sybase power builder..... at some client locations we are experiencing the application crash due to memory while opening crystal reports.
the following errors were noticed
1.the instruction at "0x77124804" referenced memory at "0x001b3e60". the memory could not be read.
2.the instruction at "0x7c911daf" referenced memory at "0x00000000". the memory could not be read.
please guide us what is the issue.. do we need any hotfix or service pack for this.
regardsI assume you already tried to reinstall the application and I would recommend to do it one more time, but this time follow the process for so-called manual uninstall
1. Uninstall Crystal reports 9 using add remove programs
2. Save backup -up of the Registry
3. Remove the following registry key (be careful with the registry file):
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Business Objects\Suite 12.0\Crystal Reports
4. Reinstall Crystal Reports 9
As the next step I would check and disable Data Execution Prevention.
Go to: Start> Right-click My Computer" select Properties> Advanced tab > click Performance settings> Data Execution Prevention tab.
If DEP turned on for all programs, then add Crystal Reports (crw32.exe) to except list.
If DEP is not cause of problems, then I would suggest Process Monitor to locate the reason or at least try to locate it.

The same page will tell you how to use it. I would suggest the following steps:
Close all unnecessary applications/processes
1. Open Crystal Reports
2. Start the Process Monitor, stop capturing events (Cntrl-E), clean the display (Cntrl-X), add the following filter (Cntrl-L) "Process Name is crw32.exe then include", click ok.
3. Start capturing events (Cntrl-E)
4. Immediately click Format menu on Crystal Reports
5. Stop capturing events and save the log file
Now you can look at the log file to see what is going wrong. I would also advice to capture the same log on client machine to compare the sequence of events.

CF8 on Apache: server monitor's flex2gateway 500 error
The basic problem has been fairly well documented elsewhere, but this is it in a nutshell:
When you attempt to bring up the server monitor (a Flex app) in CF 8, the monitor can fail to let you in, and instead display a 'Coldfusion Server is Unavailable' message. On the backend, I see this:

SteveLooks as though one solution is to bypass Apache by hitting CF Admin via the JBoss port that it's running on. As that's working for me, I'll mark this question as answered! :-)

How can Server Monitor report status if LOM isn't configured?
I'm now managing a large number of Xserves (PPC & Intel, 10.4/5/6) and the organisation has not before relied on LOM or central reporting of faults.
I predict most of my issues are firewall related (many remote sites) but there are some remote machines that do appear and function in my Server Monitor running on my macbook... but when checking the LOM config on that server it turns out there's nothing configured... how is this so?
Does LOM have to be fully configured to allow Server Monitor to function? or only to allow for 'remote hands' when the server is flaky, and Server Montior will function just as long as LOM is enabled?bpwell wrote:

It may depend on the model of XServe. Older models did not have LOM so obviously LOM is not needed for those (e.g. an old G5 XServe). I also found that if your running Server Monitor on the XServe itself then it can locally monitor without LOM, but for other XServes I found I did need to configure LOM. -

I think this issue can be caused by BUILTIN\Administrators might be deleted by someone else. Local Administrators group is equal to BUILTIN\Administrators group on Report Manager. By default, BUILTIN\Administrators user is granted with Content Manger Role.
When someone delete the BUILTIN\Administrators group in the Folder Settings, Local Administrators group cannot access report manager and report server any more.
To fix this issue, please use an account which has access to report server to assign some sufficient permissions to the account “Microsoft\MCSD”.
Another possible is the operating systems limit the overuse of elevated permissions by removing administrator permissions when accessing applications. To fix this issue, please open the Report Manager in Internet Explorer with Run as administrator option.

I have a clean installation of CFMX 9.01 J2EE version. In the Admin tool when I click on Monitoring Settings I get this error:
Variable ERROR_SETTINGS is undefined.
Then when I click on Server Monitor I get this error:
The isMonitoringServerEnabled method was not found.
Any ideas why? Everthing else appears to work fine..
- Alexok I have fixed this.. Turns out I did not apply the 901 update.. Now cf monitoring works.

Minimum memory error installing OVM 3 Manager on VirtualBox
I am trying to set up a simple pair of VBox images to demo OVM 3.
I was able to create a VBox image for the server but I get an minimum memory error during the installation of the Manager.
I have set the VBox image memory to 5GB but still get the message.
Is there some way to turn off the configuration checks?

You will need a physical machine for Oracle VM Server.
Also, the memory error is a warning, but not fatal. My guess is that you're using a complex password, which causes XE to spin until it runs out of memory. Try the install with a simple (letters/numbers) password instead. -
Filesystem Restore is getting failed "NDMP server reported a general error"
When i performing filesystem restore to different location, its getting failed with the error message "NDMP server reported a general error (name not found?)" whereas restoring
in the same location is getting success without any error.

SamIf you're restoring a file you have to list it, so if you are restoring /wdn/file01 then you specify the alternate path as /restore/file01

Coldfusion 9 Server Monitoring - Can't find "Last Error" log
Hi,
Perhaps this is a stupid question, but I cannot locate where does Coldfusion write all the error details that it reports under "Last Error" in Coldfusion Server Monitor.
I am trying to get to the bottom of a pesky error message, but can't get any more information on it without looking at the actual logs. I tried application.log but errors there are very very old and not the ones that CF Monitor is reporting.

There are no such things as stupid questions tho there are dumb answers, hope this is not one of the latter.
There are two ways. Double click under Reports - requests with errors.
Or select Statistics tab > Errors menu > request with errors.

Moving content databases from 2010 to 2013 August CU. Have 7 databases attached and ready to go, all the content is crawled successfully except zip files. Getting errors such as

SharePoint 2013 in a single instance out-of-the-box. Didn't install custom iFilters as 2013 supports zip. No other extensions have this issue. Range in file size from 60-90MB per zip. They contain mp3 files. I can download and unzip the file as needed.
Should I care that the index isn't being populated with these items since they contain no metadata? I am thinking I should just omit these from the crawl.This issue came back up for me as my results aren't displaying since this data is not part of the search index.

Vaishu00547 mentioned that the issue can be caused by the Execution Account you have configured in the Reporting Services Configuration Manager is not correct, Please update the Username and Password and restart the reporting services.

This account is used under special circumstances when other sources of credentials are not available:
When the report server connects to a data source that does not require credentials. Examples of data sources that might not require credentials include XML documents and some client-side database applications.
When the report server connects to another server to retrieve external image files or other resources that are referenced in a report.

What is a "logged in user" on the "Active Sessions" report in CF8 Server Monitor?
I was looking at the Active Sessions Report (The Chart View) and saw I have more "logged in users" than "active sessions".
I had expected them to be nearly the same. It's on our Intranet where I log users in (using cflogin and cfloginuser) at the begining of their session and users should be logged when the session ends.
I couldn't find a detailed explaination of what a "logged in user" means. There is a chance that the same user is logged into a nested application as well as the Intranet, but I don't think that is what I'm seeing.
I also don't see a way to get a list of what CF is counting as a logged in user. I can only see a way to get the total count.
Any help is appreciated.

When a user opens their browser on the intranet, a session begins and they are logged in (using the cflogin and cfloginuser). If they close their browser, the session should hang around for 20 min. (per the server setting). I am assuming this is still considered an "Active Session" since I can see this behavior in the report.
At first, the Active Sessions and Logged In Users are exactly the same. When the sessions start to time out, the active sessions are reduced, but the Logged In Users remain the same. Then, after a while, they start to move together. So I have more Logged In Users than Active Sessions.
I left the Server Monitor open last night and for most of the night, I had 0 sessions, but 57 "logged in users". This morning, as people opened their browsers, the Active Sessions and Logged In Users moved together. The gap of 57 looks consistent.
It looks like people are remaining logged in after their session ended.
I am really looking for a detailed explaination of "active session" and/or "logged in user" as used in the server monitor. It would be really nice to find a way to list the details about each item counted in the "logged in user" and not just the total count.

Make sure you are disposing of the report object once you are done with it and before you re-run it with new parameters (.close, .dispose).
Test without the combo box. Let the report prompt. Can you reproduce the behavior now? If not, try to supply the parameter values via a text box. Can you reproduce the issue now? E.g.; is it the combo box that is the issue, or the report?
