Server name change

I changed the server name using the sharing in preferences. This was working fine but when I start Terminal it still shows the old name. The same using ARD.
Any idea where to change that?

Ok, found it
Used the command line tool changeip as root:
sudo changeip +oldip newip oldname newname+
...and it worked

    Exchange 2013, Outlook 2013
we're now moving from 2010 to 2013 Exchange. first thing i noticed, in the server settings of Outlook, the server name changed to some hex
[email protected] where before i used to have "mail.acme.com" there.
is this normal? instead of "mail.acme.com" we now get
    [email protected]?

    Hello Reno,
I have the same feeling but this change will decrease the hot issue “Your administrator has made a change to your mailbox” in Outlook.

  • Ramifications of Server name change

What are the ramifications of changing the name of a Windows 2000 server on the operation of an Oracle database. I did this and the TNS listener failed to start. After changing the name back it works fine. Are there any suggested procedures for what files, etc. need to reflect the server name change for Oracle to work or do I need to uninstall Oracle, change the server name and then reinstall Oracle.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    some things to check are:
    tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files (hostname...)
also, make sure that you change your DNS so that people can find the server under the new name.
    Good Luck

-> ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist
I have a dump and I could delete and create again but there is sure a better way...
With the Database Configuration Assistant I am not coming further then it says "insufficient privileges" (without having login)??

  • Server name changed but old server name reflecting

    Hi Experts,
Issue is In the SQL server name is changed.
When the user is logging on SAP old server name is appearing and in SAP 8.8 there is no option of change like in SAP 2005B and 2007B  so no database is appearing on screen.
What should be done in such condition.
    Thanks & Regards -
    Mona.

In 8.8 you need to add and maintain servers through the license manager of the server tools. Open license manager settings and click the button on the bottom left (Configure Security). Enter your B1 site users details and then in the next screen you can define an additional server as well as remove the old one; I had the exact same issue a few days ago!

  • Server name changes - how to?

    Hi All
We have a PoC consisting of 5 or so servers, no HA, roles combined on the first (master) RDS server, the remaining are for individual Collections.
We are contemplating transitioning to Production, either build from scratch or utilise PoC and expand (by adding HA).  However our server naming convention includes letters relating to Dev, Test, or Production status.
Experimentation reveals that a change of server name on the 'master' RDS server renders RDS inactive, it vanishes from Server Manager RDS management tool.
Can anyone recommend an approved/working server rename process?
Is there a best practice guide for Production architecture?
    Many thanks
    Lea

    Hi,
You need first to inventory whatever applications that are installed on the RDSH servers and make sure users will still be able to access after removal of the RDS configuration or migrate these to a different server.
    - Then upon what role services you have configured within ther RDS you can:
    - Remove Remote desktop services Gateway; RD Connection Broker
    - Remove/uninstall RDL CALs from the RDL licensing server.
    - Remove the RDSH servers from the RDL licesing configuration.
    - Deactivate RDL Licensing server and uinstall the role service
    - Uninstall the RDSH role service
You can check this article for step by step points. Also
can go through this link. If you remove the full role then we need to again get all the roles installed again and revert back to default page.
    Hope it helps!
    Thanks.

  • OEM is not getting started after windows server name changed

    Hello DBAs
Recently I installed Oracle database 10g on my a windows machine. It was working fine. Integrated OEM was also working fine.
But now I have changed the machine name. Now Oracle Database has come up after updating the listener.ora & tnsnames.ora files with new server name. But OEM page is not getting open now. I tried after updating the emd.properties and other related file on ORACLE_HOME\sysman folder with the new server name. But no luck.
In windows services one service named "OracleDBConsoleDbname" is not getting started, which could be the issue.
Can someone please guide me what can be done to fix this problem.
    Thanks
    -Naveen

This problem will happen when either changing the computer name or changing the domain name that the server belongs to.
First, verify that the new computer name contains DNS compatible characters - no spaces or underscore ( _ ) characters, for instance. Next, you will need to recreate the Enterprise Manager Database Control repository. Directions can be found on this page under the heading of "6.2.8.3 Using EMCA After Changing the Database Host Name or IP Address":
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E11882_01/install.112/e10818/srvpool.htm#CHDEGDIJ
The above directions should work as shown with Oracle 10g R2 - and possibly 10g R1 also.

  • Outlook 2011 Exchange server name changes

I set the server name in Outlook 2011 to the "public" FQDN.  Network DNS is set to resolve this name to the private IP address of the Exchange server.  This configuration works properly for all my users, whether they are connected locally or remotely.
For one computer, though, when connected locally, Outlook changes to the "private" FQDN of the Exchange server.  This undesired change then requires editing the server name when the computer is remotely connected.
How do I get Outlook to leave the server name as the "public" FQDN?

Try going to [mactopia.com], which is Microsoft's Mac help area or you could go to [microsoft.com/mac]. These Discussion boards are for Apple products, so you should find help over there.

  • Server 2012 R2 Remote Desktop Connection Broker, Server Name Change.

We have a server that was the connection broker, We changed its name and now the connection broker wont recognize the new name.  It continutes to want the old server.  Unfortunately we cant change it back.  Is there a fix for this?
We tried the powershell command but it doesnt see the old server name and errors out.

    Hi,
Changing the name of a RD Connection Broker server is not supported.  If you are able to remove RD Connection Broker Role Service and install a new RDS deployment you may be able to get it working again (with perhaps a few registry fixes),
but you will lose all of the configuration data associated with your deployment.  If you have a very basic RDS deployment it may not be a big deal to recreate the collections, configure settings, publish
RemoteApps, etc., as they were before.
Another potential option if you were able to temporarily change the name back would be to switch to HA mode with the database stored on the local server (in SQL Express), add another RDCB server, remove RDCB from the original (leaving the SQL Express database
still functional), rename the server, add it back as a RDCB server, then remove RDCB from the second server.  I have not tried this procedure but at first glance I believe it should work, although it may be a bit complicated if you are not well versed
    with 2012 R2 RDS.
If this is a small environment you may want to consider backing up any data on the servers and then reinstalling all of the RDS servers from scratch.
It is possible to manually fix the issue you are seeing by editing the RDMS database, editing the registries of all the RDS servers, and other related tasks, however, I would not suggest it due to the complexity.

  • Server names change in ASA

    Hi everyone,
Server team is changing names of all the servers as part of standard naming process.
    IP will reamin the same
We have ACL in the firewall and some use server IP and some use server name.
    Fw config has
    name 192.16.x.x server1
    network-object host server2
Need to confirm if i change the name of server under
    name 192.168.x.x newservername
will all the rules in fw should be ok?
    Regards
    Mahesh

    Hi Mahesh,
The configuration "name" gives you the chance to refer to an IP address / Network address in the configuration with a name rather than the IP address.
If you change the "name" configurations then this wont remove anything essential in the current configurations. For example if you have an "object-group network" which contains "network-object host " currently and you remove the "name" command corresponding to the then the "network-object host" line will stay there with the IP address instead of the name.
Heres an example from my home firewall
    I create an "object-group"
    object-group network NAMES
    network-object host 1.1.1.1
    network-object host 2.2.2.2
    network-object host 3.3.3.3
    I configure "name" configurations
    name 1.1.1.1 NUMBER-ONE
    name 2.2.2.2 NUMBER-TWO
    name 3.3.3.3 NUMBER-THREE
    I view the "object-group" configuration
ASA(config)# sh run object-group id NAMES
    object-group network NAMES
    network-object host NUMBER-ONE
    network-object host NUMBER-TWO
    network-object host NUMBER-THREE
I remove ALL the name configurations (you SHOULD NOT probably use this command as it removes all the "name" configurations)
    clear configure name
I view the "object-group" configuration again
ASA(config)# sh run object-group id NAMES
    object-group network NAMES
    network-object host 1.1.1.1
    network-object host 2.2.2.2
    network-object host 3.3.3.3
So as you can see, only the presentation of the "object-group" configurations changes. Not the actual content which are the actual IP addresses specified in the "network-object" command.
It seems to me that you will have to remove the existing "name" configuration for an IP address before you can apply a new name. It seems that there is no command to rename it though I guess there really is no need for it as the "name" configurations isnt a critical part of the configurations and doesnt really affect anything (to my understanding).
While I can see "name" configurations uses I dont personally use it at all. Its one of the first things I disable on the firewall

  • SQL server name change - old content DB mounted but url is empty

Reconfigured Sharepoint with new sql server name by creating new farm administration, then mounted the old wss content DB.
When i open the old site name is says page cannot be found. Then i went and recreated the site using the same site name and it works but it does not show the old content. Please help.
The aim is to shift Sharepoint from pointing to the old SQL Server to the new server.
    nchiliza

    Hi Nchiliza,
How did you mount the old content database to the new SharePoint?
From your description, it seems that the database was not mounted successfully.
If the database has been mounted successfully, then all the site collections created in the original web application will be listed under the new web application. You can check this in Central Administration.
I recommend to detach the content database and then reattach it again.
    Dismount-SPContentDatabase "<ContentDBName>"
    Mount-SPContentDatabase "<ContentDBName>" -DatabaseServer "<DBServerName" -WebApplication
    http://SiteName

  • Verizon email; Thunderbird client; Not working since 3/25/2013;server name change

Yesterday, 3/25/2013, I noticed that email wasn't working from my thunderbird client. After a day of assuming that the problem existed elsewhere, I found on this site where it says to use POP.VERIZON.NET, port 995, and SMTP.VERIZON.NET, port 465.  After grumbling why didn't I hear about this name change?, I changed them. At that time I noticed that the PORTS were wrong, too.  They'd been right, and now, not.  Most confusing.  I changed them.  Each account has CONNECTION SECURITY SSL/TLS and NORMAL PASSWORD.
But: when I try to connect, I get:  An error occurred during a connection to pop.verizon.net:995.  You have received an invalid certificate.....Your certificate contains the same serial number as another certificate issued by the certificate authority.  Please get a new certificate...."
I am at a loss.  What's wrong, other than that email seems to be choking on security?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Found in another post where a person said the INCOMING.VERIZON.NET and OUTGOING.VERIZON.NET did still work, so I tried it, but still got that Certificate error.  Found someone else who said they had to say 'no connection security' before it would work, and so I tried that -- and it did.
Not thrilled about this, but the client is working again.

  • Server name change leads to Server.app not being able to add users/groups

I changed the name of my server from vanroodewierda.rna.nl to rna.nl. I recreated my DNS setup (only used on the LAN) and everything works. I do have one problem, though: in Server.app, it is impossible to add/delete users and groups. (Yes, I can use Workgroup Manager, but this situation makes the system less robust, certainly, so it should not persist)

There is one stupid thing I might have done myself that caused this. In WGM in my Machines directory there was a machine called vanroodewierda.rna.nl$, I removed that and replaced it with the same MAC address and the name rna.nl$. Might the following have to do with that?

What must I do to correct this? It feels like something should change in the Keychain and/or in Kerberos, but what and how?
    Thanks,

    @John & MrHoffMan,
    thanks for replying.
    - I know about the split-horizon DNS, it is by design so that, say, mail.rna.nl on the LAN resolves to the same machine as on the WAN and people can take their laptops anywhere and mail 'just works'.
I tried this in Server.app (last night also). I now changed from rna.nl to rna.nl to vanroodewierda.rna.nl and back to rna.nl. (I did this because a change to the same might be ignored by some services and I wanted to force them). In the system log I notice (esp. the first 4 lines):

Problem remains, but I wonder: can I remove the identities in Keychain that may be messing things up? And if so, which ones? Some are even duplicated in System and login key chain.

  • Server Name Changed after update

I'm new to SBS 2011 so I don't know much about it yet.  I updated a server for a client and when the server retarted the name for the server that showed up in the Network had changed.  It's now showing up as WIN-P0NIHSQCMU2.  I tried restarting
from the last know good configuration and that didn't work.  The biggest problem is because the name has changed no one can gain access to the server over the network.   Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi:
First, it might help the community to know what updates were applied and you see any errors in the logs that might be helpful.  I would create an image of the system as it is now for possible future troubleshooting onto fresh media using such as acronis
or preferably shadow protect, both offering free trials of their product.  Note that you want to do this from a bootable CD of their product created from their ISO.
Then, depending on what errors I see I would restore the entire system from backup or alternatively try just restoring a system state backup less than 60 days old, preferably either that existed just before the updates were applied.
Since we don't know what happened, I suggest to everyone on this forum that systems, particularly servers, be rebooted and the event logs examined before applying updates to check for errors that have already crept into the system.
