Server not found pops up several times when trying to get anywhere.
Every time I click on the Mozilla Firefox icon to bring up the basic page with the Google bar and I enter a Q for my home page or a Q for my university (Grand Canyon), which uses Firefox, hence my reason for using Firefox, or even if I am just using the Google to search for something, I get a pop up that tells me that the server cannot be found. In the box it shows "server cannot find" then there is some strange looking address with symbols and boxes. I click the x's and often will find my page under all of this, but it all repeats with each step, so I exit completely and just go back to using my old internet explorer. Is this like I need to re-subscribe? or is it something else?
Well I can see that this is no help either as I am not getting a response here nor any help with this matter. I will not bother you again and I will now stick to internet explorer to connect me to the internet. Thanks anyway. Bye.

AVG Internet Security 2011 Version 10.0.1388Many Open Directory problems can be resolved by taking the following steps. Test after each one, and back up all data before making any changes.
1. The OD master must have a static IP address on the local network, not a dynamic address.
2. You must have a working DNS service, and the server's hostname must match its fully-qualified domain name. To confirm, select the server by name in the sidebar of the Server application window, then select the Overview tab. Click the Edit button on the Host Name line. On the Accessing your Server sheet, Domain Name should be selected. Change the Host Name, if necessary. The server must have at least a three-level name (e.g. "server.yourdomain.com"), and the name must not be in the ".local" top-level domain, which is reserved for Bonjour.
3. The primary DNS server used by the server must be 127.0.0.1 (that is, itself) unless you're using another server for internal DNS. The only DNS server set on the clients should be the internal one, which they should get from DHCP if applicable.
4. Follow these instructions to rebuild the Kerberos configuration on the master.
5. If you use authenticated binding, check the validity of the master's certificate. The common name must match the hostname and domain name. Deselecting and then reselecting the certificate in Server.app has been reported to have an effect in some cases. Otherwise delete all certificates and create new ones.
6. Unbind and then rebind the clients in the Users & Groups preference pane. Use the fully-qualified domain name of the master.
7. Reboot the master and the clients.
8. Don't log in to the server with a network user's account.
9. Disable any internal firewalls in use, including third-party "security" software.
10. If you've created any replica servers, delete them.
11. As a last resort, export all OD users. In the Open Directory pane of Server, delete the OD server. Then recreate it and import the users. Ensure that the UID's are in the 1001+ range. -
"Server Not Found" pops-up when web-serfing, almost constantly, why? .
This problem started about one week ago, when trying to get common web sites.

When I hit the "try again" button, I connect instantly and then don't have the problem for a few hours.
Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at bbm.boardhost.com.
Check the address for typing errors such as
ww.example.com instead of
www.example.com
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

To Reset Firefox do the following:
#Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
#Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
#Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
#Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Does this happen on all websites? If so then you may have to update the permissions in your firewall application to allow the new Firefox.

This problem can be solved in seconds with just 8 or 10 clicks of your mouse. As you are reading this you are already in Internet explorer. At the top left hand side of your screen you should see the below words.
File Edit View Favourites Tools Help
If you can't see the above words then right click on any blank area on the third bar from the top of your screen and click on menu bar
Now click on Tools then click on Internet Options. Then click on the Advanced tab at the top right hand side of that page. Now click on the Reset button near the bottom right hand side. Now close and then re-open your Internet explorer.

Firefox 5 gives "Server not found" for all URLs - fresh install of Fedora 15 x86_64
Under a fresh install of Fedora 15 x86_64 on an Intel box, Firefox 5 (firefox.x86_64 5.0-2.fc15) will not display web pages. Internet connection and DNS resolution function correctly. For instance, I can correctly 'ping fedoraproject.org' but giving Firefox the URL 'http://www.fedoraproject.org' reults in a "Server not found" message. What needs to happen to get the URLs to resolve in Firefox?

No, that was my fault. I updated my release scripts yesterday and the new ones did not create the database signature symlink. I just fixed it about 10 minutes ago.
Change the SigLevel back to Required, otherwise Pacman will not verify the databases. Everything should be working again.

When I try to google websites OR even try to access my email I will be taken to a notice which states "Server Not Found" with several explanations with a TRY AGAIN button at the bottom. When I hit the try again button I am immediately taken to the web site or to my email. This happens constantly and very rarely can I access a web site or my email without this frame popping up.

What user you are trying to search. Are you using username, display name or email address when searching

What if that users tried to logon to sharepoint site.
Does this error occur with all the account when you click edit? If not, based on the error,
the user account which might be removed from Active Directory or renamed accidentally. Please have a check.

I have dial up - once I connect to the internet, I get the message server not found and am unable to go anywhere on the internet. This started trying to load my banks online site and started about a week ago. I've tried freeing popup blocker, gone through the settings with a bank IT specialist, tried to us IE which has resulted in a request for a cable and now no access to any website. Any suggestions appreciated. Thanks
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.<br />
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

firefox is loading pages very slowly, most of times saying server not found. Same pages loaded quickly in ie9. Previously FF used to load pages fast.
FF version 8.0.1, windows vista & windows XP.

Try resetting your proxy server. Go to Tools, Options, Advanced, Settings and select one. I must do this every time I restart Firefox -- but at least after that, I'm okay until the next restart.

Server not found - approx one in three times
For about the last five weeks I have been encountering many delays in getting to web pages and when I do download files they are taking an inordinate amount of time to go through the "download and then open process".
The server not found issue seems to occur on about one page in three. When it has failed (after about 15 seconds) I usually have to try again twice more before it loads. Clearly there isn't an address problem or it would never load. I have been through the Helpdesk route and they cannot find a fault. I have tried lots and seemed to make the most progress in eradicating the problem when I uninstalled NetProtect Plus and reinstalled it. I then had no problem for about three days and after that the fault just seemed to worsen - back to its original state.
As I said. No problem at all until a few weeks ago. Problem temp disappears after uninstalling and reinstalling NetProtect Plus.
Any (good) ideas please? Getting seriously annoyed.
MI've experienced a very similar, if not the same problem. I am running Windows XP and the problem seems to have started to happen on upgrading to IE8. When I close down the computer indicates that something to do with MacAfee (i.e. NetProtect) is 'not responding'. I don't know if this is linked to the problem or not but indicates to me that I have a software conflict somewhere! Can anyone help? Should I revert to IE7? Thks
