How may I generate a server performance report every 30 minutes by default?on linux, which is what this forum is about, install the 'sysstat' rpm package.
when installed, it generates statistics every 10 minutes.
goto /var/log/sa, you'll see files called 'sa', followed by the day number of the month.
you can extract the performance data in these files using 'sar -f <safile>', and choose the switch for the statistics you want to see.

How this can be done with Linux server, HP-UX and AIX Server?once installed the same way on hpux, aix etc. sar works the same.

Required info on SQL Server Performance Issue Analysis and Troubleshoot way
Dear All,
I am going to prepare the simple documentation steps on SQL Server Performance Issue Analysis and troubleshoot method. I am struggling to make this documentation since we have different checklist (like network latency,disk latency, memory/processor pressure,SQL
query tuning etc) to validate once application performance issue reported from the customer.So, I am looking for the experts document or link sharing .
Your input will help for document preparation in better way.

BI Server performance too slow
Hi experts,
I am facing an issue, my OBIEE sits on a Unix Platform. And many time the server performance is too slow, when I check the processes, Java under Orabi user is using more than 50% of the CPU utilization. I need to find the root cause behind it, as it is the production system and is affecting many users.
Thanks in advance.
MTThanks Prassu,
Yes the Server is performing too much calculations, but they are required as need to cache reports at daily level also,
I have an observation that the MAX_CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE [MAX_CACHE_ENTRY_SIZE = 1 MB;] parameter is set only for 1 MB, I can understand that if any query fetching more data than 1 MB will not be cached. But is there any chance that this will affect the server as well.
Thanks

Exchange 2013 CU7 server performance/outage issues.
Hi Forum,
We are constantly faced with incidents from users that the connections are lost with the exchange server. As a result, we hired a consultant to install an new Exchange 2013 environment based on the Microsoft, VM-Ware and NetApp best practices.
We are still having problems with performance issues. From the client prospective, the performance has not changed, weekly hangs are still happening and I’m at my wits end.
This is our configuration:
2 Windows Server 2012 R2 CAS and DB
VM with 4 vCpu, 16GB, 1 Vmxnet3, IPv6 disabled (the Microsoft way)
VM Ware 5.1 U1
Cluster without AAP
DB1 active on Server 1 (Datacenter 1 with 3 host cluster)
DB2 active on Server 2 (Datacenter 2 with 3 host cluster)
Veeam 8 Backup (Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase DB2 -ActivateOnServer Server1 , backup server 2 then Move-ActiveMailboxDatabase back to
Server2.
Exchange is in Online-Mode due to Citrix XD VDI clients.
1300 Mailboxes and 750 users.
NetApp with SATA disks. (1.5TB E: Vol for DB1/1.5TB F: Vol for DB2)
No archiving
Unlimited mailbox sizes.
The problems are:
If we migrate a non-Exchange VM in the same cluster or to\from the same host, this results in a 30 second to 5 min Outlook outage;
If we make both DB’s active on mail server 1 and reboot server 2, this results in a 30 second to 5 min Outlook outage;
If we make both DB’s active on mail server 1 and do a Veeam backup of server 2, sometimes one of the DB’s go back to server 1, on its own;
While monitoring we see that the w3wp.exe and the Microsoft.Exchange.Store.worker.exe are consuming most of the cpu and memory;
What can I do to solve the outages?
Tnx. Timotatty.

Tnx. Timotatty.Hi Simon,<o:p></o:p>
Apparently we are using basic authentication which result in a FailingCode=401 as seen in the Event Log under Active Monitoring --> Probe Results from ECP and others. This
became apparent after reading this blog:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/ehlro/archive/2014/02/20/exchange-2013-managed-availability-healthset-troubleshooting.aspx<o:p></o:p>
We are now overriding some of the monitors which require Forms Based Authentication.<o:p></o:p>
Regarding the other 2 issues we have changed the licensing model for Veeam 8 to allow full throughput which will reduce the backup time and add compression.
The KEMP support team helped us by deselecting Use HTTP/1.1 under View/Modify Services --> ECP –> Modify --> Real Servers. This
now only flags a service (ECP or ActiveSync or OWA) as being down instead of an etire server should one component fail.<o:p></o:p>
I am satisfied but still not happy with the steps required to troubleshoot an Unhealthy Health Sets:<o:p></o:p>
Invoke-MonitoringProbe always returns with: WARNING: Could not find assembly or object type associated with monitor identity '<Healthe Set >\< Probe >'. Please ensure
that the given monitor identity exists on the server.
This makes it very difficult to troubleshoot
Unhealthy Health Sets.

Analysis
For microcontrollers, single loop programming can retain almost 100% of the processing power. Such programming would require that all I/O is non-blocking as well as use of interrupts. Multiple loop programming is not recommended, except for simple applications running at loop rates less than 200 Hz, since the vast majority of the processing power is taken by LabVIEW/OS overhead.
For cRIO, there is much more processing power available, however approximately 70 to 80% of it is lost to LabVIEW/OS overhead. The end result is that what can be achieved is limiting.
For the Desktop, we get the best of both worlds; extraordinary processing power and high efficiency.
Speculation on why LabVIEW Embedded for ARM and LabVIEW Real-time performance is so poor puts the blame on excessive context switch. Each context switch typically takes 150 to 200 machine cycles and these appear to be inserted for each loop iteration. This means that tight loops (fast with not much computation) consume enormous amounts of processing power. If this is the case, an option to force a context switch every Nth loop iteration would be useful.

LabVIEW Desktop has many attractive features. This explain why LabVIEW Desktop is so successful and is the vast majority of National Instruments’ software sales (and consequently results in the vast majority of hardware sales). It is National Instruments’ flagship product and is the precursor to the other LabVIEW offerings. The execution platform is powerful, available in various form factors from various sources and is competitively priced.
LabVIEW Real-time on a cRIO/sb-RIO is a lot less attractive. To make this platform attractive the execution platform cost needs to be vastly decreased while increasing the raw processing power. It would also be beneficial to examine why the LabVIEW/OS overhead is so high. A single plug-in board no larger than 75 x 50 mm (3” x 2”) with a single unit price under $180 would certainly make the sb-RIO a viable execution platform. The peripheral connectors would not be part of the board and would be accessible via a connector. A developer mother board could house the various connectors, but these are not needed when incorporated into the final product. The recently released Xilinx Zynq would be a great chip to use ($15 in volume, 2 x ARM Cortex A9 at 800 MHz (4,000 MIPS), FPGA fabric and lots more).
LabVIEW Embedded for ARM is very OEM friendly with development boards that are open source with circuit diagrams available. To make this platform attractive, new more capable Tier 1 boards will need to be introduced, mainly to counter the large LabVIEW/OS overhead. As before, these target boards would come from microcontroller manufacturers, thereby making them inexpensive and open source. It would also be beneficial to examine why the LabVIEW/OS overhead is so high. What is required now is another Tier 1 boards (eg. DK-LM3S9D96 (ARM Cortex M3 80 MHz/96 MIPS)). Further Tier 1 boards should be targeted every two years (eg. BeagleBoard-xM (ARM Cortex A8 1000 MHz/2000 MIPS board)) to keep LabVIEW Embedded for ARM relevant.

LabVIEW Embedded - Performance Testing - Different Platforms.pdf 307 KBI've got to say though, it would really be good if NI could further develop the ARM embedded toolkit.
In the industry I'm in, and probably many others, control algorithm development and testing oocurs in labview. If you have a good LV developer or team, you'll end up with fairly solid, stable and tested code. But what happens now, once the concept is validated, is that all this is thrown away and the C programmers create the embedded code that will go into the real product.
The development cycle starts from scratch.
It would be amazing if you could strip down that code and deploy it onto ARM and expect it to not be too inefficient. Development costs and time to market go way down.. BUT, but especially in the industry I presently work in, the final product's COST is extremely important. (These being consumer products, chaper micro cheaper product) .
These concerns weight HEAVILY. I didn't get a warm fuzzy about the ARM toolkit for my application. I'm sure it's got its niches, but just imagine what could happen if some more work went into it to make it truly appealing to wider market... -
SSRS Reporting Server system requirements
Where can I get the system requirements for a SSRS server that is a standalone reporting server. It's going to pull from databases on other servers, so this won't be running any heavy local databases. Could be up to 600 users. Would this just be
the SQL 2008 R2 requirements?Hi Jlkansascity,
Based on your scenario, the SQL Server 2008 R2 Reporting Services can absolutely meet your requirement. For the Hardware and Software Requirements for Installing SQL Server 2008 R2, please see:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.105).aspx
However, the report server performance is affected by a combination of factors that include hardware, number of concurrent users accessing reports, the amount of data in a report, and output format. For more information about tools and guidelines about report
server performance, please see the
Planning for Scalability and Performance with Reporting Services as Vision2040 posted above.
Hope this helps.

WL 7 Server vs WL 7 Platform download
We currently run WL Server 5.1, and would like to upgrade to WL Server 7. When we
downloaded the product it indicated we were downloading WL 7 Server. However, it
appears when we run the installation that we have actually downloaded the new 'Platform'
product. So we cannot use our upgraded 5.1/6.1 'server' license with the product
since it is looking for 'platform'. Does anyone know a link where we can we get
the WL Server 7 server only product?Thanks Kumar, but we are still having problems with the license.
We did as you say - used the platform installer downloaded from http://commerce.bea.com/downloads/weblogic_server.jsp
(we also tried the package weblogic server install) selecting only weblogic server
components as per the documentation. When we run the installation, it indicates
that it is actually the new WL "Platform" product, although it only installs the
WL "Server" component piece. It runs fine with the evaluation license.
We then ran our 5.1 developer license through the utility on the BEA website and
were emailed the new license. The license contents indicate it is for "Weblogic
Server", not for "Weblogic Platform":
<?xml version="1.0"?>
<bea-licenses>
<license-group format="1.0" product="WebLogic Server" release="*">
When we start the 7.0 server, we get the message "Unable to start WebLogic Server!!
No such license: WebLogic Platform 7.0, WebLogic. It seems to be looking for a
"Platform" license and doesn't like our "Server" license. How do we fix this?
