Server Port Aggregation

Question: Is it possible to take an HP or Dell server with dual 1G Ethernet ports and create a 2G logical EtherChannel (port-channel interface) connection to a Catalyst switch (4948-10GB or 3750) that will give me a total 2G of usable bandwidth? I wouldn't expect to get exactly 2G of bandwidth, but I would like to get close.
I've seen a lot of examples creating EtherChannel connections from servers to Catalyst switches for the purpose of redundancy (in case one port/card/cable fails), but they are still only showing 1G of usable bandwidth.
Maybe I'm misunderstanding the term 'aggregation', but I would expect this to mean that by aggregating 2 - 1G ports, I'd be getting 2G of bandwidth.
Cisco TAC is telling me differently. This is from a case I have openedâ¦

Can I get 2G of usable bandwidth from 2 - 1G ports on my server? Or is the TAC engineer right?
If the TAC engineer is wrong, does anyone have any examples/references to point me in the right direction?

Nope he is right that is the way etherchannel works . A specific conversation will always go down 1 link depending on the the way the channel is configured , whether it be on source mac or ip or ip source destination . Say you have a 3 gig port etherchannel , this will divide up the total traffic across the ports instead of everything coming down 1 pipe but any one conversation traverses just 1 of those links so it has a total of 1 gig bandwidth to use minus whatever other traffic is already riding that port.

For your case, the LAN switches won't care how you send out the packet, it just treat the two NICs as two NICs, your server need to deal with the packet/session aggregation. It works because we suppose your server don't have any STP issues.

I shall test ... the actual case is happening with our being installed IBM BladeCenter Server, having the NIC1 and NIC2 internally wired to CIGESM switch 1 and 2; and the NIC's are Broadcom capable of using Virtual adapters in either modes, one which is LACP.

Port aggregation on different switches?

Hello all :)
I got a server PC with two fast ethernet NICs (NICS do support port aggregation)
I know you can connect two 100 Mbps ports of server to two fast ethernet ports of a switch, this way you get one 200 Mbps link. If one of the ports or one of the links fail, other link keeps working.
this is a vey nice redundancy.
My question is;
is it possible to bundle two fast ethernet ports of server to two different switches? (first ethernet port of PC to switch 1 and second ethernet port of PC to switch 2. switch 1 and switch 2 are connected each other with an uplink)
if possible, what is the CLI command for that?

AFAIK, and unless something has changed very recently, the only way to link two (or more) switches together in a single Etherchannel is in a stack configuration.
Nortel appears to have a feature called Split MultiLink Trunking, which does multichassis trunking, you might want to have a look at the document below:

How can I find out the server port for a secured FTP site and creating a FTP Connection Manager

I have to create a FTP Task to go out and get the files that our 3rd party vendor will be dropping on a secured FTP site. I have all the credentials to access that Secured FTP Site and have successfully done so through FileZilla.
Now I need to set-up a FTP Task to go out and get their files and in so doing create a FTP Connection Manager. Is there any way I can determine the
Server Port number from the Secured FTP site? I let it default to 21 and tried the Test Connect and it failed.

SSIS has a built in FTP task, while this only works for the FTP protocol, it doesn’t support SFTP. But there are some free clients like WinSCP and
SSIS SFTP Task Control Flow Component
available in the CodePlex which can invoked from SSIS.

Changing message server port for ABAP+Java Instance

Hi,
We had change our message server port for the Java instance from 3607 to 3667.
We did this using the j2ee config tool. We also verified this information through the console config.
But when we look into system info URL using the URL as shown below, we still that the old message server port is being used. We have recycled the instance couple of times , but does not seem to help.

I solved this on my own with documentation help from SAP.
I had to change the port no. in the Global dispatcher and Global server area as well.
Please see details from SAP below.
"Message Server: Changing Ports/Hosts shows which areas need to be adjusted if
the port or host of the message server changes. Ports are, of course, changed in the
instance profile of the Central Services instance. In the example, the port 3677 and
the HTTP port 8177 have been set, and the new host is called twdfxxx. You need to
use the Config Tool to set these values. For each instance, you need to maintain the
corresponding values for the Message server host and Message server port on the
Message Server and Bootstrap tab page. The connection details for dispatchers or
servers to the message server are maintained in the Cluster Manager. As shown in the
figure, the ms.host and ms.port are maintained, respectively, in the Cluster Manager
with Global Dispatcher and the Global Server. After you have maintained all of the
parameters, you can start the instances."

Servermgrd: cupsd's bootstrap server port not found

This issue was posted last fall, but no one had ever posted with a solution to it. About every 2 minutes in /var/log/system.log, I get the following message:
servermgrd: cupsd's bootstrap server port not found
This is on an Xserve running 10.4.5. No printers are attached or will be. I'm not sharing any printers either.
Again, its just an annoyance, but why is something logging to system.log if its not actually a problem?

I've got both Samba and CUPS turned off at startup, yet I get this recurring error in the system log:

I kill smbd but it starts up again, apparently thanks to /usr/libexec/launchproxy
I'm using the default configuration files for Samba and CUPS and there is no printer set up. Using OS X 10.4.3 (not Server). repaired permissions.
this is driving me nuts...any suggestions welcome.

I get that response all the time, it doesn't seem to have any relevance to anything and as far as I can tell, doesn't impair the functioning of my machine.

Specify SQL Server Port During Setup

I am installing ConfigMgr 2012 R2 in an environment that requires remote SQL. In addition, the remote SQL uses a custom port and does not run the SQL Browser service.
Is there a way to specify the SQL Server port during setup? I know I can specify the port for the SQL Service Broker, but I need to specify the port for the SQL Server instance itself.
Any insight/experiences are greatly appreciated!

SMTP Server (port 25) issues on iPhone - IOS 4.1, 4.2.1

SMTP Server Issues ios on iPhone 4.1 / ios 4.2.1
I use an IMAP email account Administered by my company ( I'am administrator in linux/freebsd, etc) and i have it set-up on my iPhone 4 (factory unlocked and NOT jailbreak). The incoming mail server works fine on wifi and 3G Both But the smtp server only works on wifi. If I Attempt to send a message while on 3G Attempts to send the phone for about 5/10/15... and never sent.
perform a downgrade to version 4.1 and the problem remains. Before ios 4.0.1 had no problems.
Testing:
I jailbreak (in 4.1) (only for install net commands in console), install console and "telnet smtp.mycompany.com 25" and time out, but turn wifi and connect; "ping smtp.mycompany" is ok.
Set wifi on, try "telnef smtp.mycompany.com 25" is ok !!!, turn wifi of, try 3G same problem, time out.
Restore no jailbreak 4.1 and try and same problem, restore 4.2.1 no jailbreak and same problem. Try change sim (personal to movistar) and same problem.
BUT!!!!!!! a try:
1) Change in my company smtp server port 25 to 587 (in really dnat 587 to 25).
2) set in my iphone smtp server new port 587 (same smtp server, but ONLY change port)
and ok !!!
I try, jailbreak, install console, telnet smtp.mycompany.com 587 is ok !!!!...
Where is the problem ios 4.1 / 4.1.2 smtp server port 25 ???????
Ios 4.1 / 4.2.1 very very many problems in 3G data in all applications.

i don't know from where it is adding /forms90 in path.

Instance Number : - just check the logon pad.. select your Ecc or R/3 system and click on chane item.... Usally it is 00.
Message server port : it is 3600 + instance no.
3600 + 00 = 3600

Dynamically changing an existing dataconnection's server / port

Hi All,
Moving from one development environment to the next is sometimes a real pain.
Scenario:
- I have three environments: DEV, QA & PROD
- I have a livecycle designer pdf - FORM A - that has the following dataconnection: http://DEVserver:8080/....
- When I move FORM A from DEV to QA, i need to update the dataconnection to http://QAserver:8090/...
- When I move FORM A from QA to PROD, I need to update the dataconnection (again) to http://PRODserver:7890/...
1) this is a pain
2) this is a nightmare, when you have multiple dataconnections and many forms.
Proposed Solution, that I need input on.
The binding XML, will pass in the server name and required port number.
Then via code, I change the server & port of an existing dataconnection dynamically.
I tried: WebserviceCallButton.event__click.submit.target = "http://" + vServer + ":" + vPort + vURLCall;
However, it does not allow the change.
Am I missing something?
ANY INPUT OR ALTERNATIVE IDEAS

LabVIEW VI Server port using netstat command

Hi Ppl,
I have been trying to use the netstat command to find out the port of VI server for LabVIEW as well EXE's running VI Server. Here is how we do it
First we have to get the process ID of LabVIEW or the EXE using the task list command ->tasklist |find /i "labview"
We then use the netstat command to find out the ports in which LabVIEW is listening ->netstat -a -o -n |find /i "<process id>"
I quite surprised to see that actually LabVIEW is listening in more than one port, here is the response to the above command:
  TCP 0.0.0.0:3363 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 7120
  TCP 127.0.0.1:55462 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 7120
  TCP 0.0.0.0:3363 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 7120  TCP 127.0.0.1:55462 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING 7120
Here 3363 is the VI Server port that I'm using. I'm wondering what is the other port ? Is there any way that will help us narrow down to the VI Server port from these ports?

127.0.0.1 is localhost. A server binding to that should be only accessible from local applications. Most likely it has to do with the LabVIEW online help or example finder application. The online help allows to drop for instance functions into your LabVIEW diagram and there has to be some form of interapplication communication for that to make it work. I would guess they do it through TCP/IP rather than a Windows only solution to allow this to work on non-Windows platforms too.
Other than that it is obvious that the 0.0.0.0 address is the VI server listen socket as it will need to be able to allow connections by remote clients too.
And the VI server default port is 3363. To use a different port you have to have a specific entry in your LabVIEW or executable ini file. So reading the ini file instead would seem even simpler.

I need the Managed Server Port.
I click Environment-> Servers, and get 3 servers. They are
AdminServer (admin), bam_server1, soa_server1. Which is the Managed Server?

Except AdminServer....All the Other Servers are Managed Servers...In your case there are two managed Servers: bam_server1 AND soa_server1.
In a WebLogic Domain...there can be only One AdminServer ...rest all Servers are called as ManagedServers.

Weblogic Admin server port configuration

Hi Raj
1. By default when you create a Weblogic Domain and choose all the defaults, it uses default port as 7001. There will NOT be any entry for this in config.xml file. Look for the file named config.xml file under yourDomain/config/ folder. You will not find any word like "7001" most of the times.
The entries related to this section are something like this in addition to extra tags between <server>...</server> for example:
<server>
<name>yourAdminServerName</name>
<listen-address/>
</server>
2. Take a back up of config.xml file. Make sure Server is not running. If someting goes wrong, use this backup config.xml file to restart the server.
3. Carefully edit config.xml file, the contents inside the above tag <server>...</server> by adding a new attribute as shown below by name <listen-port>
<server>
<name>DefaultServer</name>
<listen-port>80</listen-port>
<listen-address></listen-address>
<tunneling-enabled>true</tunneling-enabled>
</server>
All you do is add this one line: <listen-port>80</listen-port> within the <server>...</server> tags.
Restart the server. Access the weblogic console like this now http://localhost:80/console or http://localhost/console (port 80 is default and we do not need to type it manually).

NOTE: You can change the port from Admin Console also, siince you mentioned you do not have access to console, you can manually edit config.xml file.
