Server Push redirecting to a pre-existing JSP

Question:
Has anyone tried to create a Server Push servlet that can be used to serve up pre-existing JSPs?
Is it even possible for a servlet to serve a pre-existing JSP or does the web page code have to be embedded within the servlet?

Hi, do you mean you want to redirect to another JSP?
you could use the "sendRedirect" method in the HttpServletResponse object.
for example:
public MyServlet perform(...HttpServletRequest request, HttpServletResponse response)
     throws IOException, ServletException {
  String redirectTo = "http://www.companyname.com/index.jsp";
  response.sendRedirect(redirectTo);
}something like that....

  • Weirdness involving IE, JSP, data scraping and server-side redirecting

    I have a JSP script that validates inputted data. Upon successful input, it will
    1) set a cookie
    2) Do a data scrape to a URL that points to a servlet that performs server-side actions based upon query string data that is formed from your input
    3) Redirect back to itself to ensure cookie availablity and further actions.
    If you run this script on Netscape or Firefox, all is well.
    If you run this script on IE, while [2] works, it seems to be performing [2] twice, because the actions are duplicated (the actions in [2] consist of placing info into flat files so you can see what is going on).
    Does IE have a problem with data scraping + server-side redirection (I am using response.sendRedirect()) that I don't know about?
    Thanx

    The problem is that right after having logged in, while you're still in the filter, the beans managed by JSF haven't been put into any scope yet. (The faces servlet hasn't been called yet, so it hasn't had the chance to instantiate the managed beans, put them into the appropriate scopes etc.) So it is request scoped? Just create one yourself. I however don't see any benefit/reason for having the logged in user in the request scope ..

  • Server Push in JSP

    Hi AnyOne!

    Vikas,
              There was a article about the same in java world a while back.
              http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-03-2000/jw-03-pushlet.html
              But I believe this is bad design. I don't think using opened HTTP Connections

  • Pre-compiled JSPs getting re-compiled by the server

    For our project we are using wlappc to pre-compile JSPs and generate EJB classes. We are using the split directory format, so this is what the task looks like -
    <target name="appCompile" depends="init" >
    <delete dir="${ear.dist}" />
    <mkdir dir="${ear.dist}" />
    <wlpackage srcdir="${ear.src}" destdir="${ear.build}"
    toDir="${ear.dist}" />
         <wlappc source="${ear.dist}" verbose="true" classpath="${classpath}" />
    </target>
    After this, we are using wldeploy to deploy the application to another server.
    This is how the task looks like -
         <target name="beadeploy" depends="init" >
         <wldeploy action="deploy"
              source="${src.dir}/dist/myapp.ear"
              name="myApplication" remote="true"
              user="${deploy.username}" password="${deploy.password}"
              verbose="true" adminurl="t3://${deploy.host}:${deploy.port}"
              upload="true"
              debug="true" targets="${deploy.target}"/>
         </target>
    The problem that I am facing is that, even after re-compiling the JSPs, they get compiled again by the server when accessed for the first time !
    We using Weblogic 8.1.2.0. Can you please provide a soplution for this ?

    Hi,
    The following steps help you troubleshoot why you may be having problems with JSPs recompiling:
    1. When invoking jspc, your classpath must contain the same release, service-pack, and any temporary patches as the servers you wish to deploy on. Otherwise, the Server will read the JSPs as being compiled on a different version of the WebLogic, and will recompile them all.
    2. You should invoke jspc from the root directory of your open-directory exploded) WebApp or specify -webapp) and use the -d option to deploy the generated classes to the WEB-INF/classes directory. You can then archive these JSP classes into a JAR if you wish from the WEB-INF/classes directory.
    3. The JSPs should then be deployed either individually to the WEB-INF/classes/jsp_servlet directory or in a JAR file under the WEB-INF/lib directory.
    4. One other thing that could cause JSPs to be recompiled is if the timestamp of the class is different from that of the source.
    Also, if your ant classpath is different from whatever WLS-related classpath entries you use to run WLS, this may cause problems, too.

  • Adding a pre-existing podcast to iTunes U using the feed method.

    While trying to add another pre-existing CSULB podcast to our CSULB on iTunes U (using the "feed" method), I encountered an error message that I don't know how to interpret.
    Can you help me with this or is there somebody else at Apple I should work with?
    The pre-existing podcast is at: http://www.ccpe.csulb.edu/citt/podcast/feed.aspx
    The error message reads:
    "While attempting to download. . . iTunes U encountered an authorization error and could not update the content. Verity your authorization access to the feed specified in the feed URL field, including the user name and password permissions, and then try again."
    I have no idea what this means. Can someone please help?

    Is anyone using Podcast Producer 2 to publish content on iTunes U, and if so, does it work reasonably well (do you recommend using it)?
    Its spiffy. I like it, but I'm a softie when it comes to Apple stuff.
    Am I correct in thinking Podcast Producer 2 can only be used to create an RSS feed to point to podcasts stored in its Podcast Library or can you use Podcast Producer to upload files into our institutional iTunes U storage space (yes we are fortunate to have access to Apple's 500 GB storage space)?
    You can choose to do either. Although I haven't seen anything official, I suspect that Apple prefers the use of Podcast Library…but that's just a preference, not any sort of recommendation or future direction. In the end, I suggest (and I think Apple would agree) that you do what makes the most sense for you. For example, we choose to do it both ways.
    Can you provide a link to instructions (or explain how to either identify in iTunes U that the podcast is in Podcast Producer's Podcast Library as an RSS Feed or how to upload the podcast from Podcast Producer to a specific tab in a specific iTunes tab.
    I believe someone (a friend from Apple…??) released a PcP workflow action that deals with iTunes U the same way as PcPv1 did. Overall, though, probably the best kept PcP secret is that Podcast Producer is a generalized workflow solution. Sure, it's cast as a podcasting solution…but if you can get OS X Server to do something, you can get Podcast Producer to turn it into a workflow…anything. Since OS X Server can be scripted to upload content to iTunes U, Podcast Producer can handle that too.
    I appreciate any information given as I have tried with little success to find this information in either the iTunes U or Podcast Producer Admin guides.
    Thanks!!

  • Server-Push

    I read somewhere that Flex Data Services provides Server-Push
    functionality. That is, the server starts a conversation with the
    client. It's obvious that, In order to such thing ocurr, there has
    to be a persistent connection between server and client.
    I've being reading about Data Management Service to learn how
    to implement this Server-Push and all I see is about a method
    called Fill() that is thriggered from the client and syncronizes
    it's data with the server. But it's not server-push
    Does it really exist?

    Hi,
    When you create a DataService and fill your collection. The
    collection becomes managed. You don't have to call fill again if
    there is any change in the data. Server pushs updates to clients
    when the client's dataservice is using rtmp channel. It is a live
    connection between the server and the client. For example,
    you fill(collection, "hqsql", from products where price <
    100). If one of the product's price increases, server push a
    message to your collection to remove it. If a product's product's
    price decrease, it will be added to the collection. The push is
    happened based on your fill method.

  • Implementing Server Push

    How can i implement a server push in my jsp pages?
    any sample code would be appreciated.
    The server pushes the data to the jsp when the
    database changes because of an update.
    Thanks

    Http is a stateless protocol and cannot maintain a connection to the server. I am working on a project now that has the same type of requirement and we are using pushlet technology. You should have a look at the following

  • What is the Advantage and Disadvantage of Pre-Compiled JSP

    Hi All,
    What is the advantage and disadvantage of using pre-compiled JSP

    Pro:
    By pre-compiling your JSPs you don't need a java compiler on the server - just a jre.
    The result? No java compiler on the server means a potential security hole patched - people can't just write and deploy jsp's willy nilly on the server.
    You KNOW that all your JSPs compile before you visit them - because you have compiled them all :-). It won't fail because of a stupid spelling miskate that prevents compilation. That doesn't mean they will run without error of course...
    Con:
    Compiling the JSPs ties them to a particular server - unless you take the runtime along with them.

  • Auto deploy pre-compiled JSP

    Hello
    In the post of gadegaard in november 2002, there was a problem to au deploy pre-compiled JSP. Is this problem has been fix in the 9.0.4 OC4J version ?
    If yes, is it sufficient to create a "_pages" directory in the war (the war is contained in an ear) and auto deploy it ? Because my pre-compiled JSP are not deployed.
    Tanks in advance for your answer
    Emmanuelle

    Emmanuelle:
    There are two ways to use the precomiled JSP files.
    Method one: You can just copy the generated JSP page implementation classes to the directory application-deployments/yourApp/yourWebApp/persistence/_pages. If the init-param "main_mode" of jsp servlet of your web app is reload, then these classes will be used without stopping the server. This is the fastest way in development.
    Method two: You can packaged the generated JSP page implementation classes into a jar just like any other java class libraries. Then create your war with that jar inside WEB-INF/lib. Make sure the init-param "main_mode" of jsp servlet in your web.xml is justrun. Now you have a deployable war file. You can deploy the war file (within an ear file) to oc4j and access the JSP page.
    Please tell me if either of thse methods works for you
    Please note since oc4j 10.1.3, ojspc will package the generated classes into a jar under WEB-INF/lib if given an war or ear file.

  • Pre compiling JSPs?

    Is there anywayto pre-compile JSPs for a web project outside of Workshop, for example
    using the wlwBuild.sh tool, or some existing bea ant task?
    Thanks,
    Byron

    Byron,
    Building the project/application will cause the jsp's to be compiled into
    the .workshop directory. Currently there is no mechanism by which the build
    process can determine if the JSP has been modified, hence the JSP will be
    rebuilt , during the next build.
    Is there a reason why you would like to precompile the JSP outside Workshop

  • Pre-Compiled JSP

    Hi All,
    Can anyone tell me, how to pre-compile jsp and deploy it in Tomcat and Websphere and also how stop the app server recompiling the JSP at runtime. Searched the net for but was not really that successful.

    Read the documentation that come along the application server. For Tomcat it's for example this: [http://tomcat.apache.org/tomcat-6.0-doc/jasper-howto.html].

  • Pre-compiled JSPs not being recognized (WLS 8.1 SP2)

              We're running into a strange problem here, where our pre-compiled JSPs (precompiled
              via an ant target) are being recognized as "stale" and recompiled by Weblogic,
              as the following log message indicates. The strange thing is, on one hand it says
              they were precompiled by a "different" version of Weblogic server, and then right
              after that, immediately contradicts itself by logging the SAME version for the
              JSP and WLS builds:
              ####<Jan 31, 2004 11:24:40 AM PST> <Info> <HTTP> <ladybug> <fwmharris-ms01> <ExecuteThread:
              '11' for
              queue: 'default'> <dhecking> <> <BEA-101295> <Recompiling JSP
              [ServletContext(id=20425572,name=fwmhis-www,context-path=)], resource
              [tiles/table/td_twisty_group_tile.jsp], because it is stale. It was previously
              compiled using a
              different version of WebLogic Server.
              JSP build version: 8.1.2.0
              WLS build version: 8.1.2.0.>
              As can be seen, the two build versions are identical (8.1.2.0) which is the correct
              version (Weblogic 8.1 SP2). Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, is there
              a fix?
              The platform is Solaris btw.
              Thank you.

              Your guess is correct. Unfortunately a the message logged is wrong. A
              patch for CR133453 fixes that. Basically its failing (2) and logging the
              same message as (1).
