Server recognizes only half of RAM

Greetings, we have 8 HP servers Proliant DL 380 G5 with Bios p56 2011.02.05 version (the latest one, as I understand). Now, all servers have 4 1-GB FBDIMMS, which work fine.
Recently we decided to upgrade and purchased memory KTH-XW667LP/8G (according to manufacturer, it is equivalent of 466440-B21 HP/COMPAQ and is fully compatible with this model). I installed two 8GB FBDIMMS in one of the servers, but he sees only half of memory. Instead of 16 Gb it recognizes only 8Gb.
Now, I tried several vaiants:
1. All 4 1-Gb FBDimms (the old one) are placed in banks 1A and 3A, 2C and 4C. The 8Gb FBDIMMS are placed in banks 5B and 7B (according to the guide, this should be fine). The server shows 12 Gb (in BIOS and in RHEL). I.e. it recognizes fully the old memory, but not the new one.
2. The old memory is completely removed for experimental purposes. The 8Gb FBDIMMS are placed in banks 1A and 3 A. The server shows 8 Gb only.
Now, I tried it on three servers with various 8GB FBDIMMS (we bought 10 packs) to make sure, that this is not caused by server damage or memory damage. Nothing helps, the result is the same. I guess, the problem is not in servers and not in memory. There are no BIOS updates that I can install (we have the most recent version). So, what could cause this problem? Maybe I need to switch something inside the server in order to recognize memory? Maybe this is a memory redundancy mechanizm, that can be turned off or what?
This question was solved.

  • Qosmio X300-14N - Vista 64bit recognize only 1789MB of RAM

    Hello,
I need some help with my Qosmio x300-14N.
I'm using a vista 64 bit system and the OS only see 1789MB of ram.
    I have 2x2gb memory module.
    Please give me a solution!

    Hi
How did you check this in Vista?
How much RAM is recognized in BIOS?
The notebook was equipped with 2 x 2GB RAM and therefore the hardware should be 4GB RAM capable.
The software (Vista 64bit) should recognize the full memory since 64bit OS has no 32bit limitation which would recognize only 3.2GB
In my opinion there could be something wrong with one of the RAM module this would explain why only one memory module has been recognized.

  • Yosemite - Only half the RAM being detected

    Hi All
    I have a iMac (24-inch, Early 2008) 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
About 4 years ago I  installed additional RAM ( 2x 4gb) giving me 8gb in total.
Since upgrading to Yosemite My system Information State I only now have 2 x 2gb or RAM and my mac is running slow.
Ive check the RAM installation and all is fine.
Has anyone else experience this problem, if so have you found a fix.

  • Ae cs4 limited to recognize only 3gb of ram?

i have ae cs4 instaled on a 32bits win vista with 8gb ram... but my ae only show recognizing 3gb of it. any one know this?

Elaine, your answer includes some items that are factually incorrect or misleading.
    > After Effects is limited to a theoretical maximum of 3GB of RAM per core.
No. The theoretical maximum is 4GB per core.
"The operating system imposes certain limits on the amount of memory that an application can use. After Effects on the Mac OS X operating system can use up to 3.5 GB of RAM, although only about 3 GB is actually available to the foreground application, because Mac OS X uses approximately 500 MB to load the user interface libraries. After Effects on 32-bit Windows operating systems can use up to 3 GB of RAM; however, to use more than 2 GB in After Effects, you must configure Windows XP or Windows Vista appropriately.... After Effects on 64-bit Windows operating systems can use up to 4 GB of RAM with no special configuration."
    (See "Memory usage and storage".)
Your use of the term "RAM cache" is also misleading. Whether you have Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously on or not, the foreground process stores frames for RAM preview in a RAM cache. There is not a separate "RAM cache" for each of the background processes.
Also, you tell this person to change their RAM cache setting to a certain percentage. The original poster is using After Effects CS4. Only After Effects CS3 and earlier have the RAM cache exposed s a percentage.
    > If you have a machine with multiple processing cores and a 64-bit OS
you can enable Multiprocessing in After Effects's preferences.
The Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously feature is not dependent on a 64-bit operating system. Yes, it works much better on a 64-bit operating system, but you can see performace gains with only two processors on a 32-bit operating system.

Put this together and all seemed fine, noticed that only 256Mb ram being recognized, I have 2 x 256Mb. Had a little wiggle now it halts just after post beep.
Tried alternative ram from another system - no different. Using BIOS setup defaults. Any ideas?

  • SQL Server 2014 Standard, but only 2 GB RAM used

    Hello,
I just installed MS SQL Server 2014 Standard Single x64 on a Windows 8 PC. It was bought to replace the Server Express because the RAM limitation of Express.
I set min server memory to 500 MB and max server memory to 28672 MB. PC has 32 GB Ram.
Now I start a very crazy procedure/query that is running for hours.
The problem is now that task manager shows:
    - SQL Server Management Studio (32 Bit): 0% CPU and 135,4 MB RAM
    - SQL Server Windows NT - 64 Bit: 60% CPU and 2.032,6 MB RAM
    If I use: SELECT * FROM sys.dm_os_process_memory  I get:
    physical_memory_in_use_kb : 2124632
    memory_utilization_percentage : 100
So why is there Management Studio 32 Bit if I installed it through MS SQL Server 2014 Standard Single x64 installation?
And much more important: Why is only 2 GB RAM used if 32 GB are there and 28 GB should be used?
    kind regards
    Peter

  • Lenovo W500 8Gb RAM recognize only 4G

    Hi
I have a Lenovo W500 type: 4061-2ZG running a 64 bit Windows 7OS on it. I have 2X4G ram memory from Kingston “KTL-TP1066/4G”. The problem is my machine recognizes only 4G instead of 8G that I have installed.
    Thankful for any help!
    Regards
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

One quick test I did on my W700 (I have 2-2GB sticks)
Remove one stick - see if the system sees it
If yes, then put that stick in the other slot, see if the system sees it. If yes then all is OK if no then the slot where you cannot see the memory is bad.

  • Does SQL Server 2008 R2 recognize only system-generated session identifiers,

As part of the locking down of our system we are doing the Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) and one of the questions it asks is "The DBMS must recognize only system-generated session identifiers."
I have looked at the STIG version for SQL Server 2012 and this is not a finding on it, since it supports the requirement and cannot be configured out of compliance.
If anyone can help confirm that this is also the case with SQL Server 2008 R2 that would be very helpful.
    Thank you, Darren
    The discussion of it is:
This requirement focuses on communications protection at the application session, versus network packet level. The intent of this control is to establish grounds for confidence at each end of a communications session in the ongoing identity of the other
party and in the validity of the information being transmitted.
Unique session IDs are the opposite of sequentially generated session IDs which can be easily guessed by an attacker. Unique session identifiers help to reduce predictability of said identifiers.
Unique session IDs address man-in-the-middle attacks including session hijacking or insertion of false information into a session. If the attacker is unable to identify or guess the session information related to pending application traffic, they will have
more difficulty in hijacking the session or otherwise manipulating valid sessions.
The DBMS must only recognize only system generated session identifiers. If an attacker was able to generate a session with a non-system generated session identifier and have it be recognized by the system, the attacker could potentially gain access to the
system without passing through access controls designed to limit database sessions to authorized users.

    Hi Darren,
From your description, do you mean the session_id from DMV sys.dm_exec_sessions? If so, the session_id(s) are all created and handled by SQL Server. When session_id <= 50 , it belongs to a system session, and when session_id > 50, it belongs to a user
    session.
Below query could help you generate system sessions in SQL Server 2008 R2. Refer to :

  • P55-GD65 registers only half of memory (now won't even boot)

    Hi
i have big problem with deployment of new system. Specs :
    MSI P55-GD65
    Patriot Sector 5 PGV34G1600ELK 2X2GB
    Intel i7 860
    CHIEFTEC 500W
NV 7900 gs (connected for diagnostic reasons)
First, BIOS recognized only half amount of RAM (2gb from 4gb)
-updated BIOS to 1.5 - nothing changed
-cleared CMOS and restored defaults - nothing changed
Second, i tried to instal win7/win2008r2 - freezes after installation booting progress bar disappears (tried to boot from USB key and from network deployment server)
Then, i tried to install win2003 - success! but system works unstable (eg once frozen at cinebench multicore test, once BSOD while booting etc)
CPU-Z recognized properly amount of installed RAM (and said that dual channel is disabled), but system still says that is only 2 gigs of ram.
Then, i found on this board that CPU bented pins could cause the problem, so i checked pins, and they seems to look fine (Hi res photo of pins)
After i mounted CPU back, the system event won't boot - all six CPU phase diods on main board are active, fans turns on, but boot process won't start.
Anyone know is there any way to fix it? (before i give back everything to vendor)

i just bought my MSI P55-GD80 yesterday. i just hope i wont be getting the same issue as some other guys do.
im planning on building my new rig tomorrow because i dont have my memory cards and video card yet(might get these items tomorrow).
so yeah, i will be checking the CPU seating. will try to seat it once then remove it for the pin contacts checking. and i hope too that the mobo i got has at least the 1.4 BIOS version, because to tell the truth i never done any BIOS flashing before(actually ive done it once with my XPS 630i rig and it went easy for me to do. i dont know whats the procedure for the MSI boards so no idea at all). and to tell the truth, this is my first time building my own rig so im a bit excited and i prioritize durability(long lasting) and always hoping not to get any problem building my very own rig for the first time.
**so here is my question :
how will i know if the CPU pad doesnt have a good contact with the socket pins?
what should i do if after checking i find out that my CPU pad doesnt have a good contact with the socket pins?
what if after checking i find out my CPU doesnt have good contact with the socket pins but with my GD80 reading 4gb of my memory cards?
if you wanna know where i got my board, i bought it here in japan from a known computer parts retailer. and yes im living here for now and its really hard for me to return my product if its faulty because, first im not that good at speaking japanese language, and second they might have different procedure for returning products that i might not know.
thanks in advance, will appreciate any help and reply,
    Skaahr
***edited : i just checked the sticker from my mobo which i read from the other topic that tells it shows the BIOS version in your mobo, the tiny green sticker shows me this " IMS140 " does it means i have the 1.4 BIOS version?

  • IMac recognizes only 256 MB of available 512 MB and freezes

This problem is driving me crazy, I simply can not see any reason for it:
After installing user slot 512 MB memory, my iMac recognizes only 256 MB right (PC133-333), runs for the first time, but after shutdown, it beeps three times and won't start any more.
I have installed in the meantime four different kinds of memory, all of them of the genuine Mac-reseller - so I guess the memory must be OK. Some of them wont work at all, some were shown only as 256 MB (the half).
Couple of weeks before I've installed 512 MB (also 100% garanted iMac-compatible) factory slot memory and this works fine.
    Now:
Have I messed up some things by installing the factory slot memory?
    What these three beeps mean?
How can it be that iMac recognizes the half memory? If the memory is not right, none should be recognized.
Why did it start for the first time, worked fine, but after the shutdown wont start? Any explanation?
    Thanks in advance!

i think you posted to the wrong forum, if your imac info is right, about the kind of imac you are using, then you are asking in the wrong area...
    ; ^]
if you are having a lot of issues with memory modules, have you been able to run any of the common utilites on them to verify their status?
do you have any OEM ram, that came with the machine when you bought it?
does the same problem happen with that ram? if true, then you may need to have the machine looked at in a shop.
if your machine is ok with the OEM ram, then find a different reseller. also, i hope there wasn't any static discharge when you went throught the ram installation process.
where, exactly are you getting the data from, about the ram module capacities?
the about box? or system profiler?
and you are positive about the ram specs for your machine vs. the ram you are trying to use?
what is the age of your machine? have there been any other user modifications?
    any additional periferals?

  • Adobi sc6 will it work on windows 7 32 bit computer my copy seems to be only half working

can anyone help with this question. its only half working and i cant get things done

Not sure why you haven't had a reply all this time, but yes, CS6 will work on a 32 bit system, but you are going to be very short of RAM.  What do you think is missing?   The 3D menu will not work unless you have the Extended version of Photoshop, and I believe you need at least 1Gb of video RAM.

  • Ipad2 show only half of the google Australia logo?

My ipad2 started to show only half of the google logo (top part is blank white). It's only happened in google Australia search.I reset and restore software, still the same problem.

It properly the nature of the chip-set back then it an old broad , the manual said can support lot of Ram up to 4 or 8 Gig. of memory but it hard to get or find those amount of RAM back then . Mine broad only see less than 2 Gig out of 4 but Windows 8.1 ..64 bit still install fine go figure.

  • Where did half my RAM go?

I have a 12" PB G4 that I bought in October 2005. In all these years it has run flawlessly. I know my way around Macs and keep them well maintained with OnyX and Disk Warrior, etc.
About 90 minutes ago I had a strange crash where everything - all open windows, pointer etc. - froze. I have been fortunate enough to not have freezes like this in several years of OSX use. This was not a kernel panic. The only way to exit was to hold the power button. It took 3 or 4 tries before it started again. (Otherwise it would give the chime, the screen would remain black, but I could hear the fan running.)
When it finally started I tried to backup the data using a Firewire external disk and also tried to run Rember (a RAM testing utility) but it froze again - but this time it restarted fine.
SMART status is verified. However, it shows only 500+256 of RAM when I have 1G + 256 units installed. Both Rember and "About This Mac" report the same number - 756.
I reseated the 1G RAM but same result. I am running Rember through multiple loops as I write this but so far it is giving a clean chit.
How can half of the RAM on a 1G stick vanish? As recently as last week "About This Mac" reported the correct amount of RAM. Is this an indication of bigger problems? What other tests can I run to narrow the problem?
I upgraded to 10.5.6 2 days ago, but had been running 10.5.5 with no trouble (except sync issues since MobileMe) prior to that.
    Any pointers will be appreciated.
This is what I see in the "diagonostics" pane of "About This Mac":
    +Power On Self-Test:+
    +Last Run: 12/16/08 Dec 16,3:50 PM+
    +Result: Failed+
    +Failure type: Memory+
    +Memory slot: DIMM1/J31+
Bad RAM? After >3 years of flawless use on that RAM stick. Only half of it?

Bad RAM? After >3 years of flawless use on that RAM stick. Only half of it?
Entirely possible, and not all that unusual. The missing 512MB may be "coming and going" intermittently, and if that's the case, the OS may be using it while it's available, then going back for whatever was stashed in it and finding the RAM and its contents gone, leading to your freezes. The fact that half the RAM on the module is consistently seen indicates that the slot it resides in is OK.
I'd contact the vendor from whom the RAM was purchased (if it wasn't preinstalled by Apple) and see whether it's covered by a lifetime warranty, as most third-party RAM is nowadays.
