Server Spontaneously Rebooting
We are running OCS 9r2 on RH EL 2.1. Sometimes when users are in an active conference, the server just spontaneously reboots.
I've seen the processes running when the server reboots, there is virtually no load at the time. The CPUs are almost completely idle.
We cleared out some log files in case it was somehow related. I've also checked these files for anything helpful.
Anyone have an idea?
No, unfortunately there is nothing in the messages file. Apparently, there is nothing being written before the server bounces. There might be if it were a Solaris machine.
I am trying to find out if the users are doing something specific when the server reboots. To date, they haven't indicated they are doing anything out of the ordinary.
I have checked all of the logs under $OH/opmn/logs and $OH/imeeting/logs, there is really nothing I can find to explain this.

Hi, no there seems to have nothing to do with PSU/SMU or "thermal".

Mac OS 8.6 Auto network connect to a server after reboot is not working
We have multiple old blue and white systems on a network. All but one will automatically connect to the network when rebooted. I have gone into Chooser, Appletalk, put in the server IP address, put in the server password, checked the boxes that say remember Server name and password for next startup. I can connect at that time with no problem. When I reboot, the server does not automatically hook up. I have to go back into Chooser, etc. I created an alias on the desktop, but it still prompts me for a password to connect. I have performed a clean install of the Mac OS 8.6. It still does not connect to the server after reboot (after configuring all the settings again after the clean install). Please help..

Windows Server 2012 reboots while removing the Hyper-V vSwitch.
I have a WIn2k12 server with Hyper-V running. While removing the vSwitch configured in Hyper-V, the server got rebooted. In the event logs below mentioned error was notices.
he computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x00000019 (0x0000000000000024, 0x00000000000000f2, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffffa800b9ba6c0). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 072314-20248-01.
The Windows has generated a MEMORY.dump which is ~570MB in size. Is it possible to analyze the MEMORY.dump and find the cause for a server reboot.

HELP Lightroom 5.6 Spontaneously Reboots Computer
Lightroom 5.6 is installed on a new computer running Windows 8.1 and all drivers and software are up to date. All other software is running fine including InDesign which has been used heavily for 5-6 hours without problems. I imported my existing photos into a new catalog in a freshly installed Lightroom 5.6. After Import, with minimal previews generated on all 11,400 images, I tried generating 1:1 previews on a small group of images and the computer spontaneously (no pause, no blue screen) just rebooted without any warning. After the reboot I tried to start Lightroom again, received a message saying; “error in previews and Lightroom needs to close”. Kept receiving this same message each time when starting Lightroom again and was unable to open Lightroom. Uninstalled Lightroom and ran CCleaner to clear registry entries, cleared all Lightroom preferences and rebooted computer and then re-installed Lightroom. Thinking that there may be some sort of error in the existing catalog I decided to start a new catalog and re-imported all images again.
(I have subsequently concluded that the error is in the Preview files. Apparently when Lightroom closes in a spontaneous reboot the preview files are corrupted hence the message I received. When the reboots happen during 1:1 preview creation I can successfully restart Lightroom if I first delete the Preview folder.)
After importing all images into the re-installed Lightroom tried creating 1:1 previews and experienced the same spontaneous reboot of the computer. Thinking that there might have been some kind of error in the downloaded software, I downloaded a new copy of Lightroom 5.6 and re-installed the software (have done this twice now). Again Lightroom spontaneously rebooted the computer when attempting to create 1:1 previews. Uninstalled and reinstalled Lightroom in the manner previously described above. After re-importing all images I decided NOT to create previews this time. But as I was selecting an image in Library to show large, Lightroom spontaneously rebooted again; however this time I was able to restart Lightroom without receiving an error message. After restarting Lightroom as I tried to select a new image in Library the computer once again spontaneously rebooted.
At this point I have uninstalled and re-installed Lightroom 5.6 eight times. Each time I have carefully searched the computer to make sure that all vestiges of the previous installation have been deleted by using CCleaner, deleting ALL Lightroom folders and searching the registry to make sure that there was nothing left of the prior Lightroom installation. I also deleted the catalog and all presets. So at this point I am at a loss as to what my next step should be.

Background: I started using Lightroom when Adobe purchased RAWshooter and upgraded all their uses to Lightroom version 1. So I have used every version through Lightroom 5.6. I have Lightroom installed on three other computers and they all run without an issue. This is the first time in all the years I have been using light that I have encountered any problem.Thanks for the responses.
I have already installed HWMonitor when dj_page suggested it may be due to overheating yesterday.
Tried to insert a print sceeen but file was too big.
The CPU package is running at 62°C
the 4 cores vary from 61,62,64,54
I don't know if this is hot or normal.
Once I get into Lightroom I have no way of telling what the temps are as the second I generate a 1:1 preview the computer reboots.
All three case fans and CPU fan are running.
Don't know what else I can check.
The case is a mid-tower Antec with lots of space and well designed ventilation.
Currently I'm using the Intel graphics display built into the motherboard. Have a new graphics card coming because I suspect that the added load of the video onto the CPU may be causing the issue. What do you all think? -

Tonight's most recent incident occurred less than six hours after performing a reset to factory defaults, then a restore from an iPad 3 backup, and happened when I clicked on a link in a spam email. The link opened Safari, I saw it was spam, and immediately went back to Mail to delete it, which caused an immediate spontaneous reboot that only took 10-15 seconds to return me to the login screen.
I've had a couple of these situations over the past month, and had assumed some pre-iOS 7 app was burping, which would eventually resolve itself with app upgrades. However, now I'm not so sure. The situation slowly worsened until this morning, when it blew up. Last night I played around with a new iOS 7 version of Flightradar24. This is a cool app that tracks hundreds of flights world-wide dynamically updating a global 3D map with their movements and info from their flight transponders. So, you can follow individual planes in flight, with their call sign, altitude, speed displayed from takeoff to landing. Anyway, I followed a few flights for a couple of hours with the app, quit and went to bed, leaving Big Clock2 running on the screen overnight. This morning, I quit the clock, and started up the Podcasts app to listen to a show during my workout, but Springboard's behavior seemed a bit odd, so I did a simple Restart to clear the RAM with the power button. That didn't help, so I then tried a hard reset (power + home button) to also clear the caches, which also didn't help. In fact, things got worse because I then couldn't even log in at the login screen because the swipe-to-login feature didn't work. Another hard reset finally allowed me to login, but then Springboard was missing a bunch of folders holding over a hundred installed apps. Settings showed the apps were still there, but they weren't being displayed. It didn't occur to me to try the Settings/General/Reset All Settings option to potentially force Springboard to rebuild its display preferences for installed apps, so I proceeded with the full iTunes Reset to Factory Settings option instead, and spent the rest of the day tweaking everything to my preferences.
Since this isn't a pristine rebuild, but rather a reset to factory settings + restore from backup option, I can't really tell whether I simply have some corrupted setting from my backup doing bad things, or an iOS 7 software or iPad Air hardware issue. So, I'm turning to the cohort of new iPad Air users for info.
So, have any of you new iPad Air users been experiencing occasional spontaneous reboots while using your iPad? These are quick reboots, taking only a fraction of the time common with a full startup from shutdown or from a hard set reboot process. It's too soon to query the Apple folks, since I can't force the behavior to show them. But, it is worrying. I don't really know whether I have a software or hardware issue yet. I'm guessing software, but even in that case I don't know whether it's app related or iOS 7 related.Hi Dave,
Yes I have this on both my iPad Air and iPhone 5S. Both started same day I received and restored them from iCloud. My iPhone 5s was the first to be affected (as I received it first). I spend numerous hours with Apple performing diagnostics. We tried full firmware restores as well as a full replacement of hardware. Eventually I gave up with them as it is a very long processes to restore everything every time . I'm sure you are very familiar with that process. It's only a 10-15seconds to reboot although it's not really a reset. So I am waiting until they just fix it.
Now with my iPad it has since day one. I set up my camera to record the problem because it seems completely random.
So with that you are not alone. I'm not sure I have the patience to help on my on device as I think I've given them enough to move forward. I asked my Apple engineer rep today for an update.

Spontaneous reboots with BC 2.1
I successfully installed the Bootcamp 2.1 update late last night. As soon as I was done I booted back into Mac OS. This morning I've had three spontaneous reboots while in Windows XP. When booted back into Windows, Windows gives me that familiar serious error dialog box asking if I want to send a report to Microsoft. The reboots have all happened within about 5-10 minutes of startup and while doing different things each time. Haven't figured out a pattern yet.
Anyone else experiencing this? I've been running this setup for about two months now with no prior problems.

2.8GHz 24" iMac, 10.5.2, Windows XP SP2.Please also see my other post which has got a lot of views, but no answers. I'll post this also to there. So I backed up my boot camp partition using Winclone and then opened up the MacBook Pro with Windows XP as the operating system. I turned off Norton Antivirus (I thought the more basic system would have less potential interactions with other systems) and downloaded bootcamp 2.1 again. Installed it and then restarted and then turned Norton back on (Norton AV has actually been a pretty stable version from my recent experience). My external keyboard is now connected and so far so good-- the computer has not been giving me the BSOD every 20-30 minutes. I remembered from long ago-- on the mac side-- I was always told to turn off virus software before installing any new software-- maybe that's what it needed? I will continue to update.
I never got a blue screen while downloading updates to windows. I've only gotten BSOD after that initial attempt to install Bootcamp 2.1 with antivirus software turned on. And I'm backed up so I can go back to version 2.0 if necessary.

Iphone 3G spontaneously rebooting after successful update to iOS4
Twice now, after a sucessful but very long (5.5hrs) update to iOS4 and restoration of files and settings, I have had my Iphone 3G reboot twice. I think it's running out of memory...but since there's not multitasking why would this be?
Anyone else suffering from this problem?Fingers crossed indeed. I have done the same procedure as you and issue still occurs. Spontaneous reboot a couple of times per day. iPhone is no longer usable as such. I am now trying the 'auto brightness correction' turned off suggestion.
I did a downgrade to 3.1.3 but I suspect the baseband software which is NOT downgraded! -

So I have this mid-2007 iMac, purchased new, never any problems, swapped out the (still working) original hard-drive for a bigger, faster one last year. Here's the hardware overview:

The system started out on Leopard, I upgraded to Snow Leopard and Lion as those came out, with all incremental OS updates regularly downloaded and installed.
Last night, I let it install 10.7.5. Since this morning, thus far I have experienced 3 completely spontaneous reboots of the system. Good thing I save my work every few minutes ;-).
The kernel boot log helpfully reports that "Previous Shutdown Cause: 0" - which I've looked up to indicate a power failure; however, I'm on a stable circuit with surge protection, and there are no signs of power issues with the other devices on this circuit (desklight, printer, powered speaker). The log also shows these entries for SMC:

Which I assume are due to the fact that after the latest self-reboot, I reset SMC according to Apple support guidelines. I have also followed the guidelines for resetting PRAM/NVRAM. Yet the problem persists.
Has my iMac's power unit spontaneously decided to take a dump at exactly the same time I installed this latest OS update? What else can I do to diagnose and above all fix the issue? Maybe roll back to LKGC? Any ideas appreciated!
On a sidenote, I am also seeing the "indexing not working" issue reported by other 10.7.5 users.

Since the update, five days ago, the system has been up and running and remains stable. The persistent spontaneous reboots due to "Shutdown Cause: 0" have no longer occurred. This would seem to indicate that my power unit is indeed a-ok, and that the shutdowns were being cause by an incompatibility between the hardware in this iMac and the 10.7.5 upgrade which was previously installed... -
Clean XP SP3, Boot Camp 2.1, Everquest II causes spontaneous reboot

I have a small Boot Camp partition that has XP and Everquest II on it with an October 2006 MacBook Pro C2D (FW800, ATI graphics). That's its sole purpose for existing. Unfortunately, the computer spontaneously reboots a short time after starting the EQ2 client.
I just did a completely clean Windows XP SP3 install (using MSDN XP SP3 32-bit Professional), installed Boot Camp 2.0 and Apple Updated to 2.1, and Windows Updated about a dozen items. I ran the EQ2 client and again, after about 3-4 minutes, the computer reboots.
I would love to get this thing to run reliably. I only use it a few times a year (when traveling overnight, etc.) but it is a great way to while away the time. I would welcome any suggestions, please.
(I tried a Vista 64-bit install but that didn't seem to have many Boot Camp drivers, and I couldn't get the wireless or several other things running.)
Cheers!I have the same exact model MBP as you, and from research on the internet all others with the same problem have the same aswell. I honestly believe there is an issue with the ATI graphics on the MBP C2D Merom laptops and EverQuest. I doubt a hardware issue but most likely a driver issue. At one point I used to run EQ2 fine. But, for the past year or so I have had constant reboots when I enter the game.
My most recent attempt actually was ok for the first few minutes but the moment I began to cast a spell it locked and rebooted. I thought it was just EQ2 and the drivers but I also tested EQ1 and I can play that game fine all day long with only one problem. When it starts to rain in the game that results in an automatic lock and reboot otherwise fine. Since you cant turn off the rain that result is not good either. I have not had issues with any other game...LOTRO, EVE, QuakeWars....etc...
A friend who has had several nvidia based mbp's has yet to have one reboot.
I have tried every single driver version I can find and none seem to work. I hope to one day play EQ2 again but, not going to go out of upgrade cycle and buy a new MBP with Nvidia graphics just for that...
Sorry to say I dont have a fix for you but letting you know you are not alone...I and others have the same issue with the same model as you but no fix in sight

LTE causing spontaneous reboot?
My AT&T iphone 5 started spontaneously rebooting in the middle of many different tasks. It got to the point where it would just reboot to Apple screen over and over. I restored from an older backup, tried running it with only the barest essential apps and it was still spontaneously rebooting. I turned off LTE and since then it's been fine. Anyone else having this problem or know how to fix it?

So, there's a page devoted to Yosemite and kernel panics! Hmmm, it feels a bit like there's an issue that needs to be addressed.
I find there are many quirks/bugs that have appeared since my installation of Yosemite (keyboard backlight keys not functioning, keyboard input language changing after reboot, mouse pointer shifted to the right when clicking on a menu) but their appearance is random and non-repeatable. I will work through their list to identify the culprit before zapping the PRAM and, finally, reinstalling Yosemite. But I return to the fact that each of the last three kernel panics occurred with something as anodyne as opening a new tab in Safari. -
Server wont reboot if external USB Backup drive is plugged in?!?!?!
SO I just had the biggest scare of my life!!!!
I am running a fairly new server 2012 R2 Essentials system, only a week or so old :)
anyway I just turned the backup on to an external 1T USB HD a day or so ago.
Tonight there was a windows update that required the server to reboot....server reboots.
and windows wont start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I have just wasted the last 6 hours trying to fix the MBR via a myriad of methods with no avail.
Finally I unplug the USB Backup drive and she boots just fine!!!! WTF?!??!?! are you serious?
this needs to be fixed NOW!My vote would be for BIOS settings also.

Any X1900 users have spontaneous reboots?

I do realize that this may not be directly related to Motion, but it could be related to the graphics card, and this is the largest group that I can think of that would have X1900's.
I've, in the past, experienced a hard reboot during Motion renders when the X1900 intake was dirty. It seems that throwing a kernel panic is pretty normal if the X1900 doesn't have clean airflow. So, I clean the intake ever few months or if it gets loud.
Recently I've had my system (Mac Pro) reboot spontaneously during normal non-motion tasks like editing in FCP, watching Flash videos in Safari, and lately not doing anything at all (not even touching the system).
I'm curious if anyone has heard anything about this type of behavior based on the X1900. I've searched the webs and it looks like there are folks that have experienced these spontaneous reboots on Mac Pros but there is no apparent commonality. I'm currently cleaning my os drive (as it came back with errors), and have reset the SMC, but I realize this could also be a PSU issue, or even bad memory...
The reason I'm locked in on the GPU is that I know it has, and can bring my system down.
Just a shot in the dark in case anyone here had read or heard about this type of behavior.

My system spontaneously rebooted about 6 times today while doing all sorts of different things. FCP, Motion, simple web video surfing, and scrolling through a Safari window.
I called the Apple store here in Austin and they said they had the ATI 4870 in stock, but I'd have to bring my tower in because they have to install it. They can't support it if they don't install it. F-it, so I took it in to resolve the issue.
I went to the genius bar and the guy tried to recreate the reboots, albeit unsuccessfully. I think this is because there wasn't enough time to heat the thing up again, and we had a small monitor plugged into it.... and he opened up the side which certainly kept it from overheating. Dhrr. He ran a full system diagnostic and it came back clean. I explained my reasoning, that the X1900 had rebooted my system before, when it overheated. It seemed to be doing that now but without the dust buildup. Maybe old, or something... (or simple HEAT : meaning that heat seems to be the culprit for these reboots from the X1900 whether preceded by fan noise or not).
Then he informed me that the like for like replacement in my 2007 mac pro (no longer covered under any sort of warranty or applecare) was the nvidia 8800, about $600 bucks. I told him I wanted the 4870 that everyone says works in the 2007 Mac Pro, though it's not "supported," for $349. He looked at me funny, went and talked to his manager, then came back and said they wouldn't sell it to me since it wasn't supported on a mac pro 2007. Mind you the 8800 is twice as much, and they didn't even have it in stock.
Then he said they could keep it for 24 hours and try to recreate the problem, for 80 bucks. That way we could figure out if it was the graphics card. After I explained to him that I've scoured these discussion groups for the right solution for what I'm doing: MOTION, and that I'd gotten feedback that the 4870 seemed to be the right solution at the right cost, he told me I could go to frye's or newegg and buy one.
Long story short, it wasn't the best experience. But I did come home and try one more thing. I opted to download SMCfanControl 2.2.2 to actually speed up my internal fans. Basically I doubled the speed from a minimum of 500 rpm to around 1000, resting speed. Still a quiet speed this brought the temperature of my case down about 50 degrees, to an operating temp of about 100F. Before that it was running over 150F. It's been running solid for a WHILE now (fingers crossed). I pushed it with all sorts of stuff and it hasn't rebooted yet.
So, I think a few things are worth asking.
1: Did the System Management Control (SMC) change recently in a system update? I'm wondering if it's not picking up on the x1900's effect on the running temperature and letting it overheat my system.
2: Why can't they staff the the genius bar with geniuses.
3: Germany or the Netherlands?
