Server wont communicate with new network switch.

Hi, I hope someone can help.
I have a small office network running Macs with OS 10.6.4, HPs with Windows XP, and a mac mini server running 10.6.4 server, file sharing only.
DHCP and internet access etc is controlled by a Netgear ADSL router. All machines are connected by a 16 port 10/100 Netgear switch.
The problem is I replaced the switch with a 10/100/1000 switch and all machines connect fine except the server. This will not connect at all with the new switch, not even do any lights come on. However if I connect the server to the old 10/100 switch then to the new gigabit switch it connects fine but this defeats the purpose of the gigabit access to the server and the high speed macs on the network. The reason I upgraded in the first place! The standard Macs are Imac G5 Intel based late Snow leopard models and they have no trouble with the new switch.
Does Snow Leopard server somehow remember specific hardware on the network when setup? And needs to be changed to recognize the new?? I tried switching everything off and restarting the whole network.
I don't have a heap of knowledge but thought this should have been simple.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers, paul

Thanks for the reply.
No it is not managed, No uplink port, uplink is auto controlled on any port.
I have swapped and swapped and swapped this is what led me to using the old switch on the server.
This is what happens.
Putting the server cable from the server into the new gigabit switch Tried with 300m cable directly next to it. No connection on any of the 16 ports. tried several cables including longer ones etc.
Now if I use the same cable from the gigabit switch to any port on the old switch then connect a cable from any other port of the old switch to the server. Connection, no problems at all. I.E the Old switch is uplinking to the new.
It is as if the server says "hey where is the old switch I can't work without it" Thats why I thought maybe OS X server kept some sort of register of the devices when it is initially setup and this may need to be changed.
Also any other computer works fine when placed at the same access point as the server including the Standard Snow leopard Macs.
I am thinking maybe to reinstall the server OS to see what happens?
Was supposed to be a simple job. Both switches are physically exactly the same. Pull a cable out of port 1 and stick it in port 1 of the new switch etc plug it in and turn it on????

  • Since updating my IPhone 4s to iOS8.1 it wont communicate with my Audi MMI system?

Since updating my IPhone 4s to iOS8.1 it wont communicate with my Audi MMI system?  I can manually play music and podcasts from the phone by connecting and operating from the phone but it wont work handfree when connected.  Anyone have a solution?

    First, try rebooting it:
    Rebooting your iDevice
Hold down the Sleep (On-Off) and Home buttons together for about 10-15 seconds or until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears - then let go of the buttons. The iPad should begin to start up.
If that doesn't help then restore it: Backing up, updating, and restoring iPad, iPod touch, and iPhone software

  • Airport + Wired Network - Can't see Wired Network with new Ethernet Switch.

I have an Airport Exteme Wireless network work in my home with a base station and one base station as a WDS. I had an old Linksys wired router that I used as an etherent hub for my wired computers. It died the other day.
Since I figured I already have a router with Airport, I went out and bought a NetGear 5 port gigabit switch to hook the wired part of my network back up. Since I have done this, I can see all the computers on the wireless Macs, but cannot see the network at all on the wired Macs.
    My configuration is:
Cable modem -- > Airport (WAN) --> Netgear wired etheret switch (LAN).
I'm checking the "distribute IP addresses" from the airport. All the compters can access the internet, but my wired Macs can't communicate on the network. I'm darned but I can't seem to figure this out.
For all you networking gurus out there, what am I doing wrong? I could have bought another wired router, but it seems I shouldn't have to since my Airport should be able to perform the router function to all computers but hooking it to the ethernet switch.
Any suggestions or help would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Scotty D
Sorry, I posted this on the AirPort Express discussions by mistake. Apologies, but it belongs here.

You are able to ping the printer from the wireless computer but not from wired computer.
Open router setup page. Go to wireless tab and click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab.
Make sure that AP Isolation is disabled on your router.
Also check the firewall settings on your wired computer. If there is any firewall or Anti virus installed on your wired computer then disable it and try to ping the printer IP address.

  • L2L VPN issues with new network

I've added a new network for a customer's firewall and I'm trying to get that network across the existing VPN tunnel to their DR site. The new network is 10.133.133.0/24 and I'm trying to get it to connect to 10.1.14.0/24 on the other side of the tunnel.
I'm missing something, though, because when I do a packet-tracer to simulate traffic, it dies before getting encrypted. The output is below.
What am I missing to get this traffic to even attempt to go across the tunnel?

  • Wifi suddenly not working with new networks?

This is already my second iPhone 5, since the last went into warranty because, ironically, of a wifi problem.
The other day, I was just minding my own business when I decided to try to connect to the local wifi of the place I was at the time, and it wouldn't connect. It would find the network, I would put the given password in and it just stayed there. The keyboard would disappear, like it normally would, but instead of returning to the wifi menu in the Setting app, it just stays there saying "Connecting to "X" network..." and nothing happens, unless I do either thing: if I tap the Home button and go back to Settings, it brings me back to the wifi menu, still unconnected; if I drag down Notification Center or bring up Control Center and bring them up/down again, a pop up shows up saying "Can't connect to the network". Apparently, this is to new networks, since when I got home, it automatically connected to my house's wifi. On the spot, I tried reseting everything from factory, and try to connect to another wifi nearby, since I had a copy of my phone on iTunes, and it worked, and when I came back to that same wifi, it didn't but I scratched the option that it was that router problem, because now I'm at my other apartment in the capital, and tried to connect to wifi (since I reseted everything and had no password saved automatically) and the same thing happened.
Help me out here, I'm going insane!

Turn off your router, wait ten seconds and turn it back on.

  • Time capsule with new network

I have just bought a 4G router how do I change my time capsule to this new network from the old network?

It is usually necessary to reset a TC to factory to allow it to connect to a new network.
Does your 4G router have an ethernet port.. i really really hope it does.. if not return it and get one that is ethernet enabled.. the TC will simply plug in by ethernet and operate in bridge mode.
No ethernet .. then the TC becomes a dumb slow client device via wireless. You can do a join to wireless network.
    Instructions here.

And a very strong recommendation.. DON'T DO IT.

I have two working Asus 7970 Matrix cards that my PC wont post with them in. All power connectors plugged in, tried two different PSU's a Corsair HX850 and a Corsair AX1200i. Tried both PCI-E slots on the motherboard with both cards.

Hello Svet, even it has been posted more than one year ago. I experienced the same problem with a HD 7950.
I just want to say : Yes it works finally BUT where did you find this Bios ???
I use the global website and this version is simply missing !!!*
The first thing I did while seeing that I didn't have no video signal and no boot is to upgrade the bios but I only find the .H5 or the bios for Ivy.
Anyway I have a mixed feeling, quiet happy and yes ... thank you for your help now it seems working fine.
But on the other hand ...what a pity from MSI to have a so bad listing of their bios.
    Once again thanks

  • Driver can't communicate with new officejet pro 8610 for scanning

I just bought a new officejet pro 8610.  Followed all directions and set up with wireless connection.  Prints fine but will not scan.  Will not work if used at control panel on printer or software.  First tried it on a windows 7 machine.  Just tried on a new windows 8.1 machine - same problem.  Very frustrating.  Have done the HP scanner doctor and when it gets to driver it says scanner driver can't communicate to product.  Used disk and then went to HP web site and downloaded latest software and drivers - still does not work.
I'm about ready to take the printer back but am open to any ideas.

    Hi @ecsteve
It is possible you have a firewall or antivirus that is blocking the scan communication. Printing is considered outgoing and is not considered a threat, but because scanning is incoming communication, an antivirus or firewall could be blocking it to protect the computer.
If you have Norton, take a look at the following link; I cannot configure or access a network printer or other devices after I install my Norton product.
I found this in a post by @Norton_Support . If you have a different Anti Virus program, let me know and we will work through this together to come to a solution. Thanks.

  • IPX not working with new Network Configuration

Here is my situation. I have been engaged with a customer that had the following equipment.
    1x 3640 Router running IOS c3640-d-mz.121-3a.T1
    1x 3550 L3 Switch running IOS 12.1.15 EMI
    8 x 3548XL L2 Switches running IOS c3500xl-c3h2s-mz.120-5.WC13.bin
When I was asked to look at the network they were experiencing slow LAN speeds (10.8MB file between two LAN hosts around 12 minutes). This network consisted of 10 Class C networks 10.5.60.x - 10.5.69.x, these networks were based on the 3560 split between two interfaces. Odd ranges on FE 0/0 and Even on FE0/1. The router was acting as a stub router on a T1 from the client’s core network provider. This core provider has IPX services that my client has to be able to use. Under the old design there was no VLAN structure and basic network services such as DHCP barely worked.
Now the network is configured with the 3640 router as the edge routing device and the 3550-48-EMI is configured as the LAN routing devices. I have split the 10.5.60.x range in two using the lower segment for VLAN 60 and using the upper range as the communication network between FE 0/48 on the 3550 (ip addr 10.5.60.130 255.255.255.128) and FE 0/0 on 3640 (ip addr 10.5.60.131 255.255.255.128), these interfaces are connected via an ISL Trunk. Each VLAN is set at the 3550 with the gateway of 10.5.x.1. Each of the 8 3548XL switches is configured with all of the VLANS and are linked to the 3550 via 100 BaseT and 1000BaseT interfaces configured as dot1q trunks. Multicast routing is enabled on the 3550 to allow services like MDNS and Imaging to occur across VLANS.
With all this said IPX is not working. My 3640 edge router is still seeing all of its upstream IPX servers and networks. This router also sees the local IPX network as connected out of FE 0/0, based on this config setting (ipx network 1368023) FE 0/0. I'm guessing that this piece of the puzzle is based on my L3 changes on the LAN. But I just am not able to wrap my head around what it is. Any help that could be offered concerning this issue would be greatly appreciated.
Whatever the solution is it needs to happen with no more hardware and this new structure has to stay in place. I have been able to fix all ip network services such as DHCP and the customer reports a 1013% speed increase from the point when I first arrived. The 10.8 MB file mentioned above now transfers in about 8 to 10 seconds across the LAN.
    Again Thanks.

I was pretty sure of that. Is there anyway to tag the IPX traffic to a VLAN from the 3600 as described in http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/software/ios120/120newft/120t/120t1/ipx_vlan.htm Which so far hasnt worked...
Or is there a way that I can simply use broadcasts at a L2 level to accomplish connectivity? This was working like a charm under the bad network configuration that was purely L2 and 10 subnets drapped accross two router interfaces. It seems like there should be some sort of simple fix I'm missing.
Otherwise is there a way to have the VLAN clients talk up to the 3600 in order to get IPX information? In the end this is a short term fix. 3 weeks from now the IPX app is being replaced by and IP app. But I need it for 3 more weeks.
    Thanks,
    Josh

  • OS X server repeats GID with new group creation

    Hello--
I'm running ML 10.8.5/OS X Server 2.2.2 on a 2010 Mac Mini.  Today I went to create two new local network groups (call them group1 and group2) using Server and I noticed the GID numbering started over at 50001, thus duplicating Workgroup and the second group I've been using for quite some time.  When I went to delete group2 in Workgroup Manager, it complained I did have permission to perform the action, but appears to have completed it any way.  I then changed the GID for group1 (using Workgroup Manager) but that left a messed up ACE for the group folder.  So, I deleted most of entries in the ACL and added back an entry for group1 (confirmed in Workgroup Manager as GID 50005) in the ACL, however, it still showed as group of Workgroup using "ls -le" but group1 as the name when viewing the folder through Finder cmd-I.
There seems to be enough weirdness that I'm going to delete the group and shared folder, run a file permission check on the volume (external drive), and then recreate the group, confirm the GID is unique, and then create the share.
    My questions are:
    1) Has anyone experienced this behavior?
    2) Is it indicative of other bigger issues?
    Thank you.
    Tim

    Thanks, Linc--
Unfortunately, things went downhill fast.  When I started to poke around the boot RAID, I found it had come apart again (even after replacing a failing drive about a month ago).  I guess I had used up my 9 lives, because the rebuild failed and I have a paperweight now.
I'm heading out on vacation, but will be spending my Thanksgiving Day rebuilding the server and getting as much data from the postgresql databases or back ups as I can.  All the regular user data is on another volume so that is safe, although mapping uids will probably be a pain.  I think my OD backup may be fresh enough if I can get it out of Time Machine.
I was thinking about Profile Manager before I saw your post, and was thinking I should make that the central point of my system administration for users/groups/devices.  I need to search for a primer.  I really wasn't using Workgroup Manager much, mostly would bring it up because Server doesn't really provide much useful info.
I may even go ahead and leap to Mavericks/Server 3 since I'm not sure I have anything to lose at this juncture.
Sigh...I'm really losing my patience with OS X/Server.  Although I've had this particular set up running for a little over a years, it has not been without issues.  This may be the last round before I abandoned it altogether.
    Cheers, Tim

  • Ipod 5 wont charge with new cable

The old cable of my iPod 5 broke, so when I got a new one(couple of weeks after it broke) it wont charge anymore. The first time I plugged it in with the new cable my iPod started up and charging, but when I swiped right on the home screen it turned off, then I could see that "battery low you need to charge before using" screen. Waited for about an hour but it wont start up just black screen. Tried to turn it on with the power button and home button but it doesn't react in any way, and my computer won't recognize the device at all.
The new cable is "Scanpart" "Apple Lighting Kabel". I think it's an official one.
    Any ideas? Thanks for help.

  • Time Machine re-Backuping with new network connection!

    Hi,
I have an early 2011 MacBook Pro, running 10.8.5. I have a new 3TB Time Capsule I set up last Sept 25 (2013). Well, when I did that I backed up the MacBook to the Time Capsule via WiFi (about 100GB of data). And used WiFi ever since.
Well today I connected my MacBook to my local network via an Ethernet cable. Both WiFi and Ethernet conections are on my same local network. All was working well. Then after a couple hours I noticed the Time Machine was backing up, so I opened the Time Machine to see what it was doing and I see it was backup up 25GB of data!!! And it said "Oldest backup: September 25.2013"!!
I then noticed the size of the backup kept growing, "Backing up 25GB of 26.1GB" became "Backing up 32GB of 33.1GB"!! ....both numbers just kept growing! And using up space on my Time Capsule! I finally selected "Stop Backing Up".
I just restarted the backup, and the same thing is happening! Why is it doiong this? Why is Time Machine apperantly backing up all my files again to the same backup on the Time Capsule? Simply because I change the network connection?? Will it re-backup up another 100GB+ if I go back to using WiFi??
Why can't I use WiFi OR Ethernet with Time Machine??
I have turned off Time Machine on the MacBook until I can figure out whats going on here.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

I used "Verify Backups" from the TM menu, I saw it was verifing the backup so I went to do something else, it was going to take a while....when I came back it appears to have completed the Verify.....but there is no message as whether it was sucessful or not??? eeeee
PS How come spell checker doesnt work on these forums??

  • IPOD WONT COMMUNICATE WITH ITUNES!!!!

I just got my ipod nano today I thought it would be the best thing ever. But, when I use iTunes, my ipod doesnt show up and it gives me an alert telling me that it wont communticate and to re-install. I re-installed at least 12 times. Is my iPod broken, or is it my computer?????
    HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    thanks alot!
forgot to say that i have microsoft XP office edition

Alright, I have had this same problem. There are a few things you can do. First of all...since you have XP, you MUST MUST MUST, make sure that you are the only user loged onto the computer. If you are not the computer does not know what to do with the ipod when it is connected...as soon as you log that other person off it should work like normal. If that dont work, restart or shutdown the computer, and try again. Again making sure you are the only person logged onto the computer...if you have any questions you know what to do!
