Server2008 R2 drivers install on T400

Hi All,
I installed Windows Server 2008 R2 on a Lenovo T420, T400 and T430 laptops, but driver is not getting installed. Actually, there are no drivers available for lenovo laptops. How can I install drivers on Lenovo laptops if I installed
Win Server 2008 R2 OS. Thanks in advance.
Qasim

Sorry, I took some time replying. Hoping someone else might answer.
I didn't try switchable graphics. As a matter of fact, I have disabled switchable graphics and using Discrete graphics only.
This is not due to driver or OS issue alone.
I have two docking stations (one at home and another at office) with different monitors (Dell and HP), and prefer to leave the lid closed when using docking station. I also use my T400 during commute.
Between many permutations (docked/undocked, with/with-out monitor/ sleep/wakeup, hibernate/un-hibernate), etc. there are many hick-ups. For example when docked, BIOS throws the power-on password prompt to VGA port or internal monitor. And I have worse issues when I try to use ThinkPad screen as second-monitor.
Between all such variations, I had wasted countless minutes experimenting, and I am done with the hype.
Following pattern works:
1. Disable Integrated graphics in BIOS and leave Discrete graphics ON.
2. During long distance travel, I diable Discrete Graphics and Enable Integrated Graphics in BIOS to save battery.
BIOS is happy and OS is happy with this compromise.
Here is a silver-line...
Unlike Vista, multiple-monitor support works predictably with Windows-7.
You can use Thinkpad screen as secondary (or primary monitor) with an external monitor.
Switching between the two is simple, predictable and works as expected.
But... with 'EITHER' discrente or integrated Graphics enabled, and not 'BOTH'.

  • Windows XP hangs on 'spash' screen after video drivers installed on K8N Neo4-F

Hiya folks - got a MASSIVE post for everyone here...  Sorry but I think it's necessary...  Here goes:
I just upgraded everything in my computer except for the HDD.  New case, power supply, etc.  I started by copying all important data from my original HDD to a portable USB 2.0 drive.  My data is safe, and intact on that drive.  So...  I formated and repartitioned the oroginal hard drive (1 partition), assembled the system and everything runs perfectly.  The problems come later....
The Windows installation is insanely fast and smooth...  and the system boots into Windows with no problems after installation is complete.  I didn't even need to install the nVidia RAID drivers because windows detects my single SATA drive fine.  The First thing I do upon seeing the desktop for the first time is: Install nVidia chipset drivers, then AMD Athlon 64 driver (both latest releases).  I then restart and the system boots fine.  After Windows starts, I'm asked for display drivers.  I click 'cancel', as specified in my ATI installation guide, open up the ATI CD and install the drivers via the ATI autorun setup.  At this point, there are no further drivers for me to install and NONE of them have an "!" near them.  So I figure everything is A-Okay and restart... BAM!! - Windows hangs on the splash screen.  The blue bar moves for about 10 minutes, then stops for 2, then moves for 2, and so on...  This will go on FOREVER.
So...  I boot into safe mode and uninstall the ATI software/drivers with the help of some other third-party programs, schedule a disk check with CHKDSK and reboot.  I startup in Directory Services mode to allow the disk check to complete.  No errors and the system restarts on its own (supposed to).  Now the system boots in normal mode again, but no video drivers installed.  So I download the latest drivers from the ATI website and install them.  I restart, and WHAM! -- same problem.  At this point I'm thinking "bad video card" so again I go into safe mode, remove drivers, schedule disk check, etc....   restart in Dir Serv mode...  "one or more errors found" this time...  but that's okay.
After the auto-restart I shut down the computer and unplugged EVERYTHING but the video card, HDD and one stick of RAM... then reset the CMOS, checked battery and PSU outputs (all fine) I then went back into the BIOS to ensure everything is set to 'as safe as possible' and restarted.  Again I tried the latest drivers, and again the same problem after restart.  So I then booted into safe mode, but left the drivers intactthis time.  I scheduled another disk check and restarted again in Dir Serv mode.  After system restart I shut the computer down and switched to my other RAM stick and booted...  same problem.  now I'm DEFINITELY thinking "bad video card" so I plug everything back in the way it's supposed to be, reset CMOS and restart with the Windows CD the drive.  I again format the HDD, etc... and install Windows.
Now, with another fresh Windows install, having read multiple tech articles, I thought this could be an issue with the NV SW IDE drivers, so I installed the driver pack minus that driver.  I restarted and the system boots fine.  Next, I again tried installing the latest ATI drivers, restart, and SLAMMO! -- again the system hangs on the splash screen.  So, rather than waste my time with disk checks, etc...  I did ANOTHER clean OS install.  This time I decided to try installing video drivers BEFORE the chipset drivers...  no such luck.  I restart and Windows hangs in the usual spot.
NOW, I'm REALLY getting upset and can hardly contain my fists of rage that crave to desimate the computer case and all its internal componets.  Time to RMA the video card.  I exchange the card for the same type, thinking this will solve my problem, I drive happily home with the new card.  Wouldn't you guess it...  SAME PROBLEM, on ANOTHER clean OS install!!!  Now I'm thinking "bad mobo"? - I don't know because it boots fine and runs fast without video drivers, but it seems to be directly linked to the video card.  So...  I figure "okay maybe these nForce boards don't like ATI cards"...  so I return the Radeon X700 and exchange for a BFG GeForce 6600GT.  Yep, you guessed it, STILL the SAME problem!!!
I 'm pretty-sure the problem has got to be with the mobo but I can't be too sure.  It doesn't seem too likely because the system boots and runs fine with basic Windows VGA drivers.  Also, if I were to try and boot to VGA mode after encountering this problem, that would not work at all either, in any situation, other than after removing the ATI drivers or installing windows without them initially.  Right NOW, as we speak, I tried uninstalling the nvidia drivers/software via safe mode, I ran disk check, etc...  but the system will no longer boot in normal mode or VGA mode even without the nvidia drivers installed.  I've formated the hard drive and am ready to reinstall again if I can find a solution to this problem.
If ANYONE can help me it would be EXTREMELY APPRECIATED!  I'm not a dummy when it comes to computers but this is pure MADNESS!!!  I couldn't even BEGIN to fit everything else I tried into this forum.  I had to sum-it-up, but I will gladly answer any questions from you 'brains' out there and will monitor this site daily.  I won't ask the question and disappear never to tell of the solution I may or may not find...
    Thanks in advance,
    Eilios

    Hi,
If you only have one Serial ATA Hard Disk, then you don't need the nVidia RAID Driver. This driver is only needed when you set up a Serial ATA RAID Array or a Parallel ATA RAID array. For this you must have two identical hard drives in your PC, for RAID 0 and RAID 1 arrays.
nVidia SATA RAID drivers supports RAID 0, RAID 1, RAID 0+1, and JBOD. When you install at least two Hard Drives, prepare your mainboard to use SATA RAID and
set up the RAID Array style you want to use.
Then you will need to install the nVidia RAID driver, to allow Windows to "See" and use the drives correctly. This is done by pressing the F6 Key, inserting the nVidia RAID Driver disk , and "telling Windows" where to find the driver it needs, at the very beginig of the Windows XP setup process.
However if you install a RAID driver with just one SATA Hard drive, or two SATA hard drives, (this last scenario not set to be used in an array, but as two different use drives, lets say one for OS and one for MP3 Storage), then Windows begins to load, it will load the RAID driver, but since there's no RAID Array, Windows will keep "looking" for an inexistant RAID Array, and if there's no such RAID array, this will take forever.
That's why installing nVidia RAID Driver may hang your system (which as you saw is  not really hung), at the Windows Splash Screen, it is just trying to find something that doesn't exitst.
NOTE: nVidia RAID Controller, supports RAID Arrays into both, the Serial ATA channels and the Parallel ATA (IDE) channels too. But for both options, you always need to have at least two identical hard drives installed to build up and use a RAID Array, which can only be seen by the nVidia RAID Driver, for both Serial ATA hard drives and Parallel ATA (IDE) hard drives.
NOTE: JBOD stands for Just a Bunch Of Disks = In this scenario, you can combine hard drives of different brands and/or capacities into one big drive that will be seen by Windows as one drive only.
NOTE: Even if you don't have any RAID array, you must install the nVidia nForce 4 Drivers. You can just leave the nVIDIA SATA Driver check box empty.
    Hope this helps
I did not have any RAID or SATA drive in my system, actually these were disabled in BIOS. I had the similar experience though. BTW, why NF4 chiset driver is very important to install if Windows XP drivers can get the job done? Look at my link in the previous post.

  • Tried to update iPod, failed, no new drivers installed. Now iPod does not show in my computer or in iTunes.

Anyone know how I can update/unbrick this iPod? It's useless. It's stuck on the screen that says connect to iTunes. iTunes doesn't know it's there. My computer doesn't know it's there. It's not the USB port.
Please don't direct me here - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 - already tried, no results.
Last time it was a missing driver for iTunes but iTunes says nothing new is needed. Help appreciated.

Let me try this again. My computer said my iPod needed an update. I clicked ok. iTunes said it was doing the update. I browsed the internet. I came back to it after it was done, and it said update failed, no new drivers installed. Now my iPod touch is a brick. I cannot use it for anything. You know that screen that shows the usb cable, a white arrow, and iTunes? It's stuck there. No amount of pushing the sleep/wake button and home button will convince it to go to any other screen. When I go to 'My Computer', it does not recognize that there is anything there. It is not the USB port. Everything was fine until the update tried and failed.
I am not installing iTunes (piece of crap software that it is) on the other computer in my apartment.
I have exhausted the articles that sort of go with the problems I am having. They all assume a non brick iPod. Mine is a brick and therefore those articles, including the one you linked, are not relevant.
Not meaning to be rude, but I came into this not caring much for Apple's business model. I've had my iPod for .. a week? Maybe two, and nothing I've seen has convinced me to feel otherwise. Apple's products are supposed to just work. I am not finding that to be the case. Anyone with anything helpful please?

  • SCCM Driver Injection : What am I missing? Need help with getting drivers installing correctly in my environment.

    Everyone,
I'm not new to using SCCM, but i'm VERY new to setting up and managing it.  I have just laid it down for the school district that I manage, and i'm loving it.  Imaging is going great, all but one thing now...drivers installing.
Let me tell you what I've been doing, so hopefully a kind soul out there can tell me where my logic of the driver "injection" process is lacking and might can fill in some gaps.
I downloaded all drivers pertaining to the 7-8 series of computers we have in our environment currently, and imported them based on a criteria such as this:
    x86.LenovoEdge71.Desktop
    x86.DellOpti755.Desktop
    so forth and so on
I created packages based on the same exact naming scheme.  I update my distribution point at the end of the import, and all the drivers/packages/categories are in place.  When I go to Monitoring/Distribution Status/Content Status, all of my packages
show up , but under targeted it says 0.
My thoughts from reading online, is I upload all these drivers and during my task sequence where it says it's "applying device drivers" it's set to "install only the best matched compatible drivers" and "consider drivers from all
categories".  I also checked "do unattended installation of unsigned drivers no versions of Windows where this is allowed".
so correct me if my thinking is incorrect, it should search through all series of the computers we have in our environment and grab the best drivers from the overall database.  Is this not right?
The reason I ask this, is we have a few hundred HP 6000 Pro desktops.  WHen I image them, it comes up with 2 unknown devices.  OF these, I can manually point them at the folder from which I uploaded the drivers for this series/category and it installs
    100% successfully...MANUALLY.  What's the reasoning behind this?
I can't help but think there's something missing in my process / logic and I need to be set straight.
Can someone out there tell me what i'm doing wrong?  We're planning a district-wide re-imaging before summer's over, and the clock's ticking...but the drivers being installed are all that's keeping us from starting our migrations.
Any help on this is GREATLY appreciated, thank you very much!

You have setup everything correct, but for your desired result you need to use "Apply Driver Package" Task rather than "Auto Apply Drivers".
Auto Apply drivers will install the best matched/compatible drivers for only the PNP devices. For more info on this:http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680990.aspx
Whereas "Apply Driver Package" would install all drivers you have in the package and hence you don't see the unknown drivers in device manager. For more info on this: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb680403.aspx
If you have multiple models, create this task for each model individually and then associate with a WMI query condition under Options tab to check the manufacturer/model
Example: Select * from Win32_ComputerSystem where Manufacturer = "HP" and Model Like "6000%"

  • Possible to Have Multiple Graphics Card Drivers Installed?

Is it possible to have both the nVidia propritary, nVidia legacy, and ATI open-source drivers installed all at the same time, because I have set up a portable Arch Linux system, and I want to have want to have 3D acceleration on all of them.
My computer has an Radeon X1300, and I'm using the open-source driver for it, and this one has a Riva TNT2 Model 64.  I think the comps in the tech lab also have nVidia cards, but newer.

nvidia and nvidia-xxxx conflicts with eatch other, so no. As said, only the drivers that comes with X.org play along with eachother. Welcome to the beautiful world of closed software.
You can have them both as packages an install 'em/uninstall 'em as needed...
You could make a nice simple script to run at startup so you can choose which xorg.conf to use, you could easily have many and just symlink them to xorg.conf as needed... all you kneed to know is some bash scripting.
I'd try and use a DAEMON aproach by creating and rc.d script, but you could try as you like

  • Can I have multiple Oracle drivers installed?

I have a Windows 2000 machine that has Oracle 7.3 drivers installed for one application and now I have another app going on that has 8.01.07.00 of the Oracle driver. I have been having problems getting the new driver installed and then both apps running. If I can get them both installed, will I need to combine the tnsnames.ora files into one or can I have both?
    Thanks.

I'm assuming that you have two different ORACLE_HOME's (i.e. both Oracle7 & Oracle8 client software has been installed into different directories). If this is the case, I believe this should work, though I don't believe it's officially supported.
8i added official support for multiple Oracle homes-- the latest ODBC drivers support multiple homes, although the ODBC drivers didn't add this support right with 8i. You may try grabbing the latest 8.1.7 driver, just to make sure that you've got a multi-home capable driver.

  • Illustrator CC crashes on launch in Windows 8 w/ no wacom drivers installed

Oddly enough, Illustrator CC is crashing about 5 seconds after I launch it, around the time that the little trial window pops up. Obviously I can't see if I even like the software if the darn thing doesn't work. I have no wacom drivers installed which seems to be the issue people with windows were running into. I don't think it's creating a crash log because I can't find it. I'm beyond frustrated with Adobe at this point. Please, please help.

I believe so, but I included some screencaps of the font faces themselves just in case. They're all TTF. No font management. Thanks for the reply.

Well, at least now I know what's going on. It would be really decent of CL were they to document this problem SOMEWHERE here on the website. It's bad enough that DDL is broken in Windows 7. However, forcing their customers to waste days at a time trying to troubleshoot something that isn't fixable, as is, strikes me as pretty bad business manners. :|

    Hi magorian,
I agree with PauPau. The drivers for your notebook can be downloaded on Toshiba European driver download page in *Archive*.
Furthermore make sure that SP3 is installed. It contains updates for sound drivers and a lot of security updates. If SP3 is already installed, start with sound driver installation.
If you have more questions, just post again! :)

  • FX5600 Drivers Install Problem

I finally got the FX5600 128 working after tossing out the old MSI MOBO, which only had a AGP4x, and replacing it with a GA-7N400L running a high end  Athlon and 1G of dual channel RAM. After all, it is Christmas   - Using WinXP/ SP1
    Anyway, here's the problem:
Drivers install fine. PC does a restart, all is well. The FX5600 does what it is supposed to.
But when I do a COLD START,  the installed MSI/nVidea drivers disappear and I'm back to the defaul Windoze VGA drivers.
Essentially, if I switch the PC off and then cold start I need to re-install the FX5600 driver software.
Any ideas for a fix out there?

  • MSI drivers installed?

How do I find out if I have any MSI drivers installed on my PC? I remember installing the card and installing Nvidia's drivers but I'm not sure if I installed any of MSI's before that.
Is there any specific files from MSI to search for on my PC? If I do find those files, is it ok to just delete them?
    Thanks,
    TaiBo

If you want to find out what drivers are installed on your PC, you can notice it by looking your video card´s Windows name. If it´s MSI MS-StarForce... instead of nVIDIA Geforce..., then you are using MSI drivers.
Also, if you installed MSI drivers, you should have 2 pages, one for overclocking and the other to check AGP and video card specific related information, but you cannot change anything on this last page.

It's pretty difficult to offer suggestions when you say nothing about your Mac, the version of Mac OS it's running, or the models of printers you have. This forum, however, is intended for questions about old, pre-G3 hardware, so unless you are asking about an very old Mac, this is not the forum where you'll be most likely to get help with your problem. I'd suggest you ask this question in the forum for your model of Mac or version of Mac OS X it's running. You'll be more likely to get assistance there, assuming you provide sufficient detail for anyone to make a diagnosis of the problem.

Hello, on my compaq laptop model f765ea when i boot the laptop up some times the little speaker in the bottom right of the screen has a cross thro it saying there is no audio drivers installed i have tried reinstallingbut this does not work?
some times when i turn the laptop on there is no cross thro the speaker and the audio is a bit hit and miss.
    any ideas?

    Hello Fernando,
First you might keep windows update regularly to obtain the latest driver for your device. Note: Drivers on the Windows Update site are directly provided by hardware manufacturers. Microsoft tests drivers in various environments before they are published; however, we cannot guarantee all drivers will work on all hardware platforms as there are too many different models, although their hardware ID are the same as the standard version. In some cases, due to hardware modifications by different manufacturers, the driver updates may cause some error.
Meanwhile, please understand that Windows 7 is a new operating system and whole driverstore has been reprogrammed; you might wait for another period of time till the retail version is released and push the vendor company to upgrade their device driver. Thanks for your time and understanding!
For more details, please look at the first Sticky thread at the top of this forum.
What can I do if my hardware does not work?
This will give you some guidelines.
    Good Luck!
