Servers and firewire cards

I have a HP Proliant DL180 G5 server and was wondering if you can install a firewire card and if so where could I get one to fit the pci x4 slot?

Hi:
You may also want to post your question on the HP Business Support Forum -- DL Servers section.

  • USB and Firewire Card for Mac Pro 3.0

I am running out of USB and Firewire Ports. Any suggestions on expansion cards for Firewire and USB??
    Thanks
    John

The Sonnet PCI USB Express cards have this problem too - for the record. Sonnet know about the MacPro not waking with it installed, as do Apple. I am sure Apple willl come up with something, I may even find a workaround, but it has always seemed that expansion cards with all my Macs [ waaaay too many] have produced unpredicatable problems.

  • 440 MX VTD and firewire card

I have just installed and MX 440 VTD 8X AGP, which includes the video capture.  Previously, I was only able to capture video from my DV camcorder using my firewire card.  I got the new MSI card so that I could capture old videos from our older camcorder.  Since I installed the new card, none of the video programs recognizes the camcorder when it is attached to the firewire port.  I have an external hard drive that also runs off the firewire card and that is working okay.  Is it possible that the video capture drivers that came with the MSI card are causing a problem with connecting the camera to the firewire port? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
I am running Windows Me and have a Duron 750 MHz processor and 384 Mb RAM.  The new MSI card has 64 Mb RAM.

Is this a conflict in the system information report?
They always have the same address, it's not a problem and there is nothing to fix.

    Hi -
I am looking for recommendations for a USB 2.0 expansion card, and a Firewire expansion card for the

  • Satellite P300-220 (PSPCCE) and express card with firewire

I have problems with a shared IRQ between firewire (IEEE1394) connector and ati radeon 4600 mobility.(the IRQ used by both device is the 16)
This sharing make my firestudio presonus (sound card external via firewire) problems while reading music on my DAO.
I would like to buy an express card to solve this problem but i must be sure than it will not be the same IRQ (16) than the other firewire connection.
If you are using such a card please verify wich IRQ is used when it's connected on the laptop.
You can see it with the device manager.
    Thanks a lot.

    Hi
The Windows OS controls and assigns automaticity all recourses to all controllers!
In my case the SD host controller and the graphic card shares the same IRQ 16 and there is NO conflict.
So I doubt that your issue is related to the same IRQ which is uses by graphic card and firewire.
Sorry but this is everything what I can suggest regarding your issue

  • T43 and firewire drives using PC card slot

I use a firewire card (PC card) on my laptop due to laptop has no
installed factory firewire. Problem is when I put computer to sleep or
close the lid of the laptop or boot or shut down windows the computer
will freeze and force me to push off button and have to reboot why is
that? The firewire is IEEE 1394.
Or if not willing to work what about this?
How can I share my 2 firewire device
    1) external drive
    2) CD/DVD burner
from my Mac to a XP computer?

Hi, Sherry. Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You've posted in the iBook G3 (Dual USB) Discussions area. You may want to try again in the proper _PowerBook Forum_.
I don't think any such thing exists, but someone there may know of something that would work for you.
    Good luck.

  • Firewire card and MP

What would you recommend a firewire card for MacPRo?

OK. You will need to find a card that is a PCI/Express. Standard PCI cards will not work. The following have compatible cards:
    SIIG (http://www.siig.com/productlist.asp?catid=14).
    Akumen (http://www.akumen.com/store/home.php?cat=105).
    Firewire Depot (http://fwdepot.com/thestore/default.php/cPath/129).
Of course there may be others, but these three I quickly found on Google.
Why reward points?(Quoted from Discussions Terms of Use.)

  • Firewire Card Recommendation for Duende and/or Ensemble

I am in the process of moving from a PPC to a Quad core 3.0 machine. Can anyone recommend a PCIE firewire card for running the Duende or the Apogee card?
I'm looking for something with 800 and 400 ports.
I've loaded this machine up with 16gb ram and 4 drives, is there anything I need to know as far as tweaks, any specific pcie slot to install the fw card as well as a UAD2 card?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    http://www.sonnettech.com/product/fw_adapter.html
I don't know about Ensemble or Duende but my Motu works on a LeCie D2 connected to the FW800 port of my G5 without problems...
seems to be more faster... but in any case just an adapter to be sure about stay close to FW800 commectors.

  • Want to add Video and Graphic Card to my computer system

I Notice that one of the users' in the Apple discussion Board is Listed, (AndyO) he has help me many times in the Past and was succesful in my problrm solution, would he might be able to help me with this?
I had Purchased the Game Spore Creature Creator the Starter Kit which is just the Creature creator game and not the actual game itself. I wasn't able to install the the game on my computer because I don't have the right or not at all Video and Graphic Card install on my computer. I had Contacted the Company "EA" that puts out the Game Spore, this is what they said what the game requirements are: The minimum system requirements for Spore and Spore the Galactic Edition for Mac are as follows:
    * Mac OS X 10.5.3 Leopard or higher
    * Intel Core Duo Processor
    * 1024 MB RAM
    * At least 345 MB of hard drive space for installation, plus additional space for created creatures. (260 MB for the Trial Edition)
    * Video Card - ATI X1600 or NVidia 7300 GT with 128 MB of Video RAM, or Intel Integrated GMA X3100
This game will not run on PowerPC (G3/G4/G5) based Mac systems (PowerMac).
For computers using built-in graphics chipsets, the game requires at least: an Intel Integrated Chipset GMA X3100 or Dual 2.0GHz CPUs, or 1.7GHz Core 2 Duo, or equivalent
    Supported Video Cards
    ATI Radeon(TM) series
    * X1600, X1900, HD 2400, HD 2600
    NVIDIA GeForce series
    * 7300, 7600, 8600, 8800
    Intel(R) Extreme Graphics
    * GMA X3100
and that I need to upgrade my system. Basically I need; ATI Radeon 1600 or NVIDIA Geforce 7300 and a INTEL Extreme Graphic Video Card-GMA X3100, in order to be able to install and play this game. Since I already have this game, I would like to be able to upgrade my computer system which brings me to ask; does somone know or refer me to a web site that has and sells these Video and Graphic Card and supports for the Mini Mac?
Plus they say that I need a 1020 of MB of Ram, I Have already found that 1024 MB of Ram but I just need those Video and Graphic Cards for my computer system. I am adding my computer system Profile to my discussion board to show you what I have on my system, would you be able to tell me if I would be able to add these Video and Graphic card and the memory or Ram 1024 to my computer system?
Note: Here is a web site that I am looking at to add the 1024 MB of Ram to my computer system:

    Hi Trisha,
The only modern Mac's with video cards are the Mac Pro and Xserve (server) systems. They both are priced quite a bit higher than any Mac Mini.
Some systems, like the Mac Book Pro laptop can be ordered with different graphics cards, but that has be done when the system is built, as it is not replaceable once the system is built. To find out which systems, go to store.apple.com. For each system that you select, you can see if there's an option for a better video card.

  • To capture the Mini-DV file through the 1394 firewire card from t

    hii there!
first let mi make you understand what we people are doing ....
We people want to capture the Mini-DV file directly through the 1394 firewire card from the sony camcorder in to the MPEG2
format. Thent on the fly(i.e.during capturing into MPEG2) we also want to capture the metadata i.e (time, date etc. of the
original shooting event) into some text file. Our MPEG2 format requirements are: 8mbps viedeo,freq-48KHz,16 bit sterio,384
audio kbps, Deinterlace... we are using JavaMediaFramework-2.1.1e(Java Media Studio tool)..so we want to explore that tool
much more coz rightnow it's not supporting MPEG2(only supporting MPEG1) and also not supporting 1394 cpture card ...we want
the codec for converting DV-AVI to MPEG2 with date and time exctrated and much more explored details about JMf2.1.1 JavaMedia
    Studio to get more familiar.....
for the above mentioned problem I am trying to add the mpeg2 codec inthe plugin of the jmf studio..and i have followed the
    steps ..
    Download the Codec from IBM
    Extracted jmf.jar
    Extracted codec.zip
Added files from codec folder to jmf folder
Made a jar out of it and name it jmf.jar
Replaced that with current jmf.jar (kept a backup)
Opened JMFRegistry and in "Plugins","Codec" and now unable to add " "
this becoz i am not knowing the exact way of recopiling that newly created jar file and because of that that mpeg-2 codedc is
not get added .....so i am looking forward for any help for the above mentioned problem!
I would be gratefull on getting ur help coz it's such challenging and techy concept to explore...
    thanks..

  • PCMCIA firewire card for G4 laptop (follow-up to excessive timecode breaks)

1.) It was recommended that I get a new firewire bus to resolve excessive timecode breaks when importing from a Canon camcorder to an external hard drive. I've been reading through posts on this topic...and saw getting a new firewire port mentioned a few times... How come when I called Apple to check on the cost of a new firewire card for my laptop Powerbook G4, I was told that nothing could be added without replacing the entire logic board? Am I missing something? I didn't say "PCMCIA firewire drive" - is that something special? Any idea of the cost to purchase and install?
2.) Apple recommended just capturing to my internal hard drive, and transfering the projects. Apart from this being cumbersome... I need a little verification: if I transfer PROJECT X to my external hard drive, then do I also need to transfer my Audio Render, Autosave,Capture Scratch, Render, Thumbnail, and Waveform folders? [I realize this is basic, but I'm wary of losing the information the project needs and getting it all messed up]

pcmcia is an card slot. If you have a 12" PB you may not have one.
If you have a pcmcia slot, buy the card. Slide the card into your computer and start up. Put the camcorder on the card and your fw drive on the port built-in to your computer. Even if this does not solve the timecode issues, it will save you other headaches in the future.
Question. Does capturing to your internal drive solve the timecode issues you are having?
I disagree with the advice of capturing to your internal drive and transfering the project after the fact. There are a bunch of reasons why, and all of them are qualified, so I hesitate to go further until I know whether or not capturing to the internal drive is making your timecode headaches go away.
I suspect capturing to the internal drive will not help the timecode issues which will make the whole point moot. But hopefully I'm wrong :>

    ps
When you talk to representatives from Apple, you have to be conscious that if they are not specialists in the area you are focused on their advice may be based on general recommendations from an IT or home user perspective. There is a difference between talking to a sales person on the floor of the Apple Store and someone from the Genius Bar. And the person at the Genius Bar may have a tremendous background in network installations, but never have opened FCP. Or you might get lucky and get a FCP savvy genius, who would be a bit weak when talking about some other area.
This is not a knock, just a reality. It is difficult to be deeply conversant with even one area. It is not realistic for the generalists you usually deal with to know the best answers to very specific questions.
I'm working toward becoming a certified trainer with FCP and it is not easy or cheap to become an expert at this one application, never mind all the possible applications and hardware combinations for wildly different needs and budgets.

  • Found a Mac Pro in the trash, missing harddrive and video card. Can I fix?

I believe this is a Mac Pro G5 (Aluminum casing). It is missing a harddrive and video card. I want to fix it. I plugged it in and turned it on and I see a red light coming from the front, not sure if that means its broken or just missing a videocard/harddrive.
Is there a way I can tell if I will be able to fix this machine before buying parts? When i turn it on, it makes the OSX noise the same as when I turn my laptop on.
    THanks!

Can you fix it? No, I think you should mail it to me
The best way is to see if you can find a cheap video card - craigslist, ebay, borrow from someone else local to you (computer club or users group?)
As for hard drives, since you can boot of an external firewire drive - you have lots of options.
The video card is obviously your biggest issue. Since you apparently get the "Welcome to Mac" startup chime it doesn't sound like their is a major issue with it.
Now, even if you get it working, what are you going to do with it? The G5 was good for it's day, but for the amount of electricity it consumes, it's not the best out there - the new Mini is probably faster than it and consumes a fraction of the power.
Then again, you got it for free and can probably get a video card for under $100 - cheaper than a Mini and if you live in cold climate the extra heat it generates could be a net positive

  • LACIE HD'S WONT MOUNT. APPLE THINKS I NEED A SEPERATE FIREWIRE CARD.

I have 2 lacie hd's that will not mount they used to mount but now they will not. I have been back and forth to the Mac store and I have been on the phone with Lacie . My drives were tested and my computer was tested and nothing is wrong WITH EITHER. Apple seems to think that my fire wire bus on the computer may be interfering with the HD's and thats why the will not mount. They also said for me to install a fire wire card to just completely avoid using the fire wire ports on my Mac. Does any of this sound normal to you guys? And whats a good fire wire card to buy? Should I just stick with the Lacie brand since I have two lacie HD's?

I'm not sure if this would cause a problem, but you might want to check the filesystem of the hard drive. If it is something other than HFS or HFS+ (these are the apple filesystems) then it might not mount as well, but apple is known to support most filesystems so I don't know if that's the case.
If you want to purchase a firewire card you should go snoop around on www.macsales.com just go into the firewire section, and then into the pci/pcmcia sub section. You did not specify as to which firewire you are in need of (400 or 800) but you can check out that website to see what the deal is.
Also, I HIGHLY recommend the OWC External hard drives if you do not enclose them your self. OWC is www.macsales.com and I have a couple of their external drives (one standard 200GB and one 500GB dual RAID). After a couple years of use, I have never had a problem with my OWC hard drives (well the drive itself isn't made by them, but the enclosure is.)
Anyway, I've been ramblin on and on way too much, but I hope I could have been some help.

  • Capture through firewire card

    hello friends,
I want to capture video using firewire port in my laptop. Is
it possible to capture through firewire card?... If so how can i do
    it?. Please help me ....
    regards

When we start the Flash Media Encoder, there is an option for
"Microsoft DV" and we just use that.
If this doesn't appear as an option for you, download
WebCamDV from a company called Orange Micro. The program is only
like $20, but it makes your 1394 port look like a webcam. It will
then appear as a 'device' in encoder and you can use it for audio
    and video.
ps - we are using a Windows PC not a MAC for this.
