Service Battery and no apple care

So if my 15" Mac Book Pro (2010) is 4 years old and I dont have apple care, when it says service battery does anyone know how much it would be to replace, and how long I have to replace it.

Okay thanks. The help doc that pops up when I click service battery, says:
"Service Battery: The battery isn’t functioning normally, and you may or may not notice a change in its behavior or the amount of charge it holds. Take your computer in for service. You can continue to use your battery before it’s checked without harming your computer."
So is there any way of know how long before its dangerously bad? There are only four options mentioned in the help doc and Service Battery is the lowest one, so is this that notification before it dies or will I have a couple months or so. I just noticed it today but its possible it said this earlier, and I didnt know.
This is the help doc:
Another thing to note my power cable is cut, I am waiting on a new one in the mail, so I have electrical tape on it could this, be the cause of this? Could this be damaging my battery?

I purchased my iPad and the apple care insurance from apples website, I received my iPad but didn't receive my apple care papers, should I have received any paperwork for that?

When purchased together, AppleCare is automatically activated and applied to your device, so no proof or registration is usually required. Apple usually sends documentation of coverage after a few days, though. If you didn't receive the documentation, it may have been lost in the mail. You can confirm coverage here:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
If that doesn't show the correct coverage (the expiration should be two years from your date of purchase) and it's been at least a couple of weeks since you purchased, call Apple support, ask to speak with someone in AppleCare Plan Administration, and explain the mistake to them.

  • Fixed Water Damage and Void Apple Care

    Hi -
So I spilled water on my MBP and am having an authorized Apple retailer fix the water damage. Is my Apple Care void even if I fixed the laptop through a third-party provider?

If the retailer is also an Apple authorized service provider, ask them whether the work they've agreed to do for you will reinstate your warranty/AppleCare. If they aren't an AASP, the answer is no.

  • My MacBook Pro laptop says 'service battery' and doesn't charge very well but my Mac is 5 years old. Is it worth buying a new battery or do you think I should buy a new mac?

    Hi guys,
I can only leave my MacBook Pro unplugged for an hour maximum and it never seems to fully charge. It says on the Mac to service battery - which I guess means buy a new battery.
I have had my MacBook for over 5 years now and it does get used probably every day, if not every other. If I brought a new battery would it all work normally again or is it getting old and do I need a new one?
Also, my charger seems to be playing up a bit now as well. It's seems to be temperamental when I plug it in and takes to while to light up and charge.  I've attached an image of the battery bit on my laptop as the lead seems to be fine - is this normal?
    Thanks in advance guys.

Is there any application(s) that your current Mac cannot run that only a new can?  Calculate the cost per year of your current MBP and compare that to the cost of a new battery.  Spread the battery cost over a year or two of additional operation, how do the dollar amounts compare?  If the MBP is functioning properly, I generally find it is more cost effective to keep it.
If the retina display and the SSD storage are very desirable from your perspective, then that becomes a different matter.  You are the one to make the final decision.
    Ciao.

  • Battery covered under Apple Care?

    Easy Question:
My battery only last about 30 minutes. I need a new one, but I have the Apple Care plan. Is this covered, or do i have to buy it myself?
    Thanks

If you check the fine print, you will see that Apple's warranty does not cover consumable parts such as batteries unless they are defective.

    How much to replace ipad3?

It will cost you approximately US$219.00 to US$299.00 depending on the model.
Apple will replace the entire iPad; they don't repair.

  • Apple care cover battery?

In what instance does Apple Care would cover a battery?
My late 2008 MBP's battery is at 288 cycles and on full charge, its only got 34% (1950mAh) health according to iStat widget. In normal usage, it lasts about an hour. Is this battery defected? And whats Apple Care's policy on this?

You would need to contact Apple in order to get an accurate response. If your machine is still under warranty (in your case, you would have to have the extended AppleCare), Apple will often replace a battery with less than 300 cycles. This is, however, not always the case. Reports of how Apple deals with failing batteries vary greatly from person to person. They are generally considered consumable items. Apple does seem to offer preferential treatment for those with AppleCare however.
I don't believe that Apple actually guarantees that the batteries will last a specific number of cycles.

  • New battery...does apple care cover?

Ok So my battery is running at 38% cap
    after 208 charges
    and is 16 months old.
    Is that average?
Can I get a new battery through my Apple Care warrenty?

    Hi,
I'm having the same problem with my battery, and from what i've read, it seems our only option is to buy a new one. You should still try to call them, they might exchange it for some specific reasons, which I'm sure they'll tell you about.
    Good luck,

  • Apple Care and 1:1 - worth the price?

I am buying my first ever Mac (wither MBA or Pro -retina).  Life long windows user.  What do you think about the 1:1 service and the Apple Care?  Do I need them?  I live in NYC so there are several Apple stores in town.
    Thanks

Apple care is worth it if you have a mechanical problem with the MBP.  If there are no mechanical issues that develop, then it is not worth is, simply put.
The fact is that Apple Care is priced so that Apple  will NOT lose money on repairs, so statically it is is not in your favor.  You have to balance that with 'peace of mind' as you would insurance.
Note that Apple care does not cover damage to the MBP whether intentional or accidental.  Should you drop the MBP, there is NO coverage.  It cover manufacturing defects only.
If you are very much a novice to computers, 1 to 1 has virtue.  Otherwise most of your issues can be addressed in these forums.  An inherent problem with 1 to 1 is that there will be a very uneven quality of the instructors.  You may get a good one, you may not.  Luck of the draw.  Having knowledge and being able to teach others do not go hand in hand.
    Ciao.

  • Swelling of battery is ruining my trackpad! I m still under apple care protection.

Can i get my battery replace under apple care if its affecting other parts of the computer?

Same thing here... except I am out $125 and an afternoon of unscrewing and screwing and now my three - week -old trackpad is having same issues.
My swelling battery caused my touchpad to do weird things... I replaced the whole keyboard/touchpad... but now I see that it was the swelling battery making the click bar "stick" on.  It is happening again with the new keyboard/touch pad...
I hate to toss a battery that is good otherwise the fact that it expands when hot... otherwise an engineering defect-- inadequate heat dispersion/close tollerances with touch-pad.
Apple give me a discount on a fresh battery... this battery seem to work just fine... 3-hours or so of use without charging.

  • Can I buy an iPad in Asia and register the Apple Care Protection Plan in Europe?

I want to buy the new retina iPad mini while I am in Hong Kong for my semester abroad but I want to have it protected with an Apple Care Protection Plan for when I'm back in Europe. I was told that the protection plan is region specific for iPads and that my iPad won't be covered in Europe if I buy Apple Care in HK. But, what if I buy the iPad in HK and buy Apple Care separately in Europe, when I'm back?

The AppleCare+ plan is valid only in the US where you purchased the iPad. So if you want the $49 replacement price, you will have to send the iPad to someone you know in the US who can take or send it to Apple for you. Othewise you will have to pay Apple's full replacement price, assuming Apple India will even replace the iPad for you; if it's a WiFi+Cellular model you will probably have to send the iPad to the US in any case.
    Regards.

  • I purchased the ipad and apple care but only the ipad arrived

help i purchased ipad and the apple care but only the ipad arrived.
is apple care already on the computer.

You should have received an email from Apple with the receipts for the iPad and your AppleCare. AppleCare is not on your iPad... if you have a problem with your iPad that you cannot repair yourself, then you would contact AppleCare for help.

  • "Service Battery" after 106 cycles, 1 year

When I got my MBP, I got an second battery, because I expected to sometimes have long periods without access to AC power. In order to wear the batteries down evenly, I decided to (under normal circumstances) use each battery for a month at a time, calibrating each at the start of its month. Each battery was marked on its bottom (the side you can't see when it's installed) in magic marker, with the one coming with the computer being 1, and the other being 2.
When the computer was a little over a year old (and, unfortunately, I did not extend Apple Care), I began to have problems with the original battery. Specifically, when I swapped it back into the computer after using #2 for a month, and I began to go through the calibration steps, when I got to the step of disconnecting the AC power, the computer only ran for a few minutes then shut off without warning. After that, the computer indicated "Service Battery".
This was a few months ago. I have just been using the second battery alone meanwhile, but would like to try to resolve this situation--hopefully, without having to buy a new battery.
This is what System Profiler says right now about this battery:
    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 0
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: Yes
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 221
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 106
    Condition: Check Battery
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 1580
    Voltage (mV): 12515
The menu bar charging indicator says (0:17), and the menu itself says "Service Battery" and "45% full".
Is there anything that either I can do myself, or that a Genius at an Apple Store could do, to save me from the cost of buying a batter to replace this one? I believe Apple feels that their batteries should last at least 300 cycles over three years. Mine only got to one-third of that.

    Condition: Check Battery
You need a new battery. Take your computer to an Apple Store. The staff will be able to check to determine if your model MacBook Pro qualifies for a free battery.
