Service Battery appeared again along with fast battery drain on Mavericks 10.9.4 with iTunes 11.3

I upgraded to Mavericks on my MacBook Pro about a month ago and bluetooth connection problems with my Bose Mini Soundlink and UE Boom were resolved but everything else went haywire from the dreaded Service Battery message, email, to wifi issues. After a few days of hair pulling and looking for solutions, the problems just went away, and everything went fine again. Two days ago iTunes came out with an update and I installed it. I first noticed the battery lost capacity from 87% down to 74% with just 299 cycles on it. Now the Service Battery warning is back and the battery doesn't seem to last that long anymore. I've removed Google Chrome, done SMC reset, battery reset, and the whole kit and caboodle of tricks from forums but none worked. I tried removing iTunes but I can't. I have a lurking idea this is a software issue. Any tricks out there to get this back into shape?

  • Safari misbehaving with fast user switching after Mavericks upgrade

    Anybody else have this problem with fast user switching?
    Since upgrading to the worst OS upgrade in history, not only have I lost TB's of data from my external drives, but Safari is behaving like a spoilt brat when fast user switching is used.
    If I leave safari windows open and switch users, then switch back, the Safari windows are collapsed to about a tenth of their normal height and stuck in the top left of my screen. When I say stuck, I mean that if I attempt to move them, they snap back.
    The best part is, it's not consistent, so I can't reproduce it at will.

    I have a 2014 BTO 27 inch iMac and I have the same problem with open windows being locked to the top left/right of the screen and just a fraction of their previous size after switching to other users and then switching back. In addition if an open window is not bugged into either of the top corners it may still get re-sized
    Due to screen backlight issues, I went through being shipped (and returning) 3 BTO iMacs before settling with this current one and each of those iMacs had the same fast user switching bug. This leads me to think that a re-install will not neccessarily solve this issue as I am assuming that the BTO iMacs they shipped to me from China were brand spanking new. We see this behaviour with Safari, Chrome, Mail, iCal, and iTunes since these are the apps that we commonly leave open. We do not have these as full screen apps either, just open windows.
    It is very easy to replicate this bug. Open a few of the above mentioned apps, and then switch to another user; I'm guessing even the guest user will do if you have no other users on your system. Switch back to the first user and more than likely one or more of the windows will be anchored at the top left or right of the screen, depending on where the window was initially. As stated by a few other users above, this doesn't always happen but switch users a couple of times and it is bound to happen before long.
    Curiosly when my windows are anchored on the left after switching users, the upper edge of the window is hidden BEHIND the menu bar. If I pull the window down it appears that the red button is off screen to the left and only that portion of the window to the RIGHT of the amber button is visible.
    When the windows are anchored to the right they are BELOW the menu bar, and only the red and amber buttons are visible and only that part of the window to the LEFT of the amber button is visible.
    In both cases it seems the amber minimise button is the window cut-off point.
    You wonder how they could have broken this feature since ML and much worse, still not have it fixed 3 months later.

  • Location services, Celular data, Usage and Stand by & fast battery drain on iOS 4.3.5

    Hi all,
    I've been experiencing some trouble with fast battery drain since I have updated to iOS 4.3.5, never experienced it before. I've spent some time reading out through the web, including the Apple Discussion forums, and never found anything conclusive that could lead me to a solution. With some hints from many places and some particular obstination for fixing the problem, I've managed to find a solution. I was willing to share this here just to see if anyone else had the same problem and try to figure out wheter this is a bug or just an ignorant user like me
    This is the configuration and symptoms I had for my iPhone 3GS with iOS 4.3.5 (didn' happen until 4.3.4):
    Location services enabled, with several apps been allowed to use it;
    Celular data (and 3G) turned off;
    Usage and Stand by times reported always equal since last charge (really weird, although other have already reported this);
    Cell phone overheated;
    Battery drain really fast, dropping from 100% to 50% in about four to five hours with almost no use at all.
    The following steps solved my problem:
    Close all applications to make sure nothing is running in the background;
    Reset statistics in order to observe correctly the celular data traffic;
    Make sure you have access to the internet over Wifi;
    Turn on Celular data and 3G for a short time (2 minutes should be enough). Observe celular data exchange stats: for me it was 3Kb download and 2Kb uploaded, although no application was running in the background (and there was also no need for celular data, since I was connected over Wifi);
    Turn off Celular data and 3G.
    Turn off (completelly!) Location services;
    No more overheating, usage and stand by being reported equal nor battery fast drain noticed: everything was back to normal.
    I have come to the following conclusions: it seems that Location services causes problems with Celular data turned off. I'm not sure whether Location services should work at all with Celular data turned off, but I also believe it doesn't give it the right to drain my battery so fast . I'd like to here from others just to see if anyone has experienced a similar thing and if the solution above helped fixed it. It would be interest if we could confirm this is indeed a bug in iOS 4.3.5.
    Best regards,
    Adriano

    Some further testing and observation lead me to new conclusions. I looks like the problem is not actually related to Location services, but to some buggy application trying to access data when it's not available at all. Even closing all apps, the problem doesn't go away untill Celular data is enabled (and then disabled again).
    I still believe this shouldn't be the regular behaviour.

  • Was unable to load data class info from sync services.  try again later.

    Since installing the latest version of itunes (11.1.5.5) whenever I have either mine or my wife's iphones (4 and 5c, both with the latest 7.1.1) turned on and I start iTunes, I receive the error message saying that itunes was unable to load data class info from sync services.  try again later.
    If I leave the phones turned off and open iTunes, I am able to sync my old ipod so it appears to be an issue with the software on the phones?
    I'm just not sure where to start.  I've made sure that itunes has the latest version and no more updates are available.
    Thanks in advance,

    My older MacBookPro, purchased in November 2007, is continuously showing "Service Battery" in System Preferences: Energy Saver & in the battery icon drop down menu. "Check Battery" appears in the System Profiler. I have recalibrated both of the batteries. I purchased a new battery in February 2010 I am having the same issues.
    What am I doing wrong? Is this a problem with my MacBookPro?

    not sure if this will help, but i will post my experience as well. i purchased the macbook 13" about 1 year ago. the battery had less than 100 cycles, and health was above 90%. within the last week, i noticed that my macbook shutdown without warning when the battery life reached about 25-30%. so before the computer reached that level, i plugged the power cord, but that caused the computer to shut down. i then noticed after turning the computer back on that "Service Battery" showed up on the menu bar. after reading the forums, i decided to take the macbook to an apple store. the genius took the computer and opened the casing. apparently, the problem was major dust inside the computer causing a malfunction. after cleaning it, the macbook worked perfectly.
    so far, it's been about 5 days since i took the computer to the apple store, and no further problems to report. so before buying batteries, this might be help your issues. hope this helps!

  • Service battery appears

    Hello, i bought my aluminum macbook in april/may of 2009. Over the past couple of days, i have been experiencing much shorter battery life, along with the message under the battery menu, "service battery".
    As of right now, the istat widget reports that the battery has went through 335 charge cycles, and battery health has been fluctuating, right now it is at 54%, but last night was 71%.
    Could the battery problems be purely a software problem, or is the problem with the battery itself? Should I buy a new battery?

    Try resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Which is about the only software thing you can do.
    My guess is that you've killed the battery--that's a lot of cycles for just about a year. I bought mine at the same time you did and I have 79 cycles. More reading:

  • Network icon disappear...and It appears again when I remove the battery!

    Hi to everyone.
    This "strange" issue appears now on a lot of pcs so it must be something that someonelse have experienced...
    WIndows XP SP3 with italian multilanguage installed, pcs are Lenovo T400, X200 and  X200 tablets.
    Sometime happens that the network icon (wireless and lan) doesn't appear on the taskbar, and when this happens you are not able to open the network connections.
    The "funny" thing is that if you remove the battery from the laptop, the network icon appear again and network connection magically opens! I've tried to update pcs drivers but without any remarkable result.
    Has someone reported a similar issue?

    Any suggestions on what this can be?
    A dead battery.  Buy a new one.

    macbook pro 15" mid 2010 i spilled water on keyboard now it wont power on if the battery is connected and the keys on keyboard doesnt work it works fine with no battery and external keyboard if i order a battery and new keyboard will every else work again lik it did before

    If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
    It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
    Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

    Sorry about the long title.....its my first post.
    My kid just got a brand new iPod 5th generation (today from Santa) and it won't power up or charge. The only response is when I connect the USB and press the power button or front button the Battery appears with red line on left and lightning symbol below. There is no other response at all no matter what I do, including holding both buttons down for extended period.  My other kid got one and it works perfectly.....I have interchanged usb cables ports etc. but still no response....I would really appreciate any help.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    -  Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since you have a hardware problem with the iPod. This is because as you said the same cable works with another iPod.

  • Upgrade to OS4.1 causes fast battery drain with WiFi on

    I've just upgraded the software on my 3G Pod to 4.1, only to find that it has led to a much quicker battery drain with the WiFi on. Is there a fix for this or can I revert to the previous OS?

    Owen Glyndwr wrote:
    Thanks llaass, but the discussion that you direct me to does not really address the issue of why a very recent upgrade should make such a significant difference. I had already realised that turning off WiFi makes a difference. Perhaps my question should have been addressed to Apple, since it appears that it is their so called 'upgrade' that has led to a deterioration.
    I'm using iOS 4.1 on my iPod Touch 3 gen with no battery drain problem. This suggests that there is another factor at play which must be present to provoke this problem between the iPod and iOS (i.e., a specific App, a router type, or ?).

  • Macbook 13" fixed in Apple Service Provider, battery service msg appears

    I got my computer fixed and received it yesterday, it had snow leopard and asked the service providers tu update it to the latest OSx and the battery seems to not be working properly. The problem they fixed was the mother board (I payed a huge amount of money for it to be replaced), but the battery had no problem apparently; is it a software issue? If so, how can it be fixed?

    What percentage charge did you get when it was charging normally and what percentage charge did you have when it stopped charging again?
    Since your battery is over two years old, it may not charge to 100%. I have experienced not being able to fully recharge a battery on Macbooks that are a couple of years old. As your battery ages/is recharged x number of times, it loses the ability to take on a full charge.
    The 2011 Macbook Pro we have will only charge to 97% for example.

    How long are you using internet for? Are you using WiFi or mobile data? Are you watching video on websites? There are many variables that could explain a perfectly natural battery drain. As I said previously you should try recalibrating the battery. My phone used to drain by mid-afternoon with little to no use until I found out about recalibrating. Since then its been fine and its something I do at least once a month.
