'Service Battery' notification pops up then disappears after 2 days

After 143 cycles the battery in my Macbook Pro 17" has been reporting 80%, 70%, 76% and now 86% 'health'.
For the past two days there has been a ! exclamation symbol on the battery menu showing the battery needed servicing. I ran a hardware test with the same result. Plugged in it was at 70% health and unplugged 76%.
After charging again and unplugging, the battery is suddenly up to 86% again and the exclamation has disappeared.
Is this normal? I'd previously calibrated the battery, reset the SMC and PRAM. It's now 'healthy' but the battery has never been this variable before.
Is this normal for a built-in battery?
Cheers,
Peter

I assume East Bay is the San Fran area?
If so contact Apple directly. 1-877-576-2775
I can sort of see why the store didn't take it back but you shouldn't have to deal with Amazon on this. Just call Apple and explain the situation.

  • HT1519 Mid 2009 MBP 15" cycle count 500ish but getting "Service Battery" notification after Mavericks upgrade

    Dear Apple,
I've got a Mid 2009 Macbook pro 15". Been going great. Love it. Much better user experience than my PC laptop.
However, straight after Mavericks upgrade, I've been starting receiving "Service Battery" notification. I've had a look at my Cycle count, which is 516 as it currently stands. According to the spec, this expected battery count is 1000. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Cheers,

  • Exchange email appears then disappears after one read !!

Since installing OS 3.0 on my iPhone 3G my Exchange email appears then disappears after 1 reading.
To get the emails back I go to the account settings and switch the Mail off (which removes the account and the folder format) then I switch the mail back on then the email are back again !!
(if it can get through to the server, as I often get a Sever error message)
    Anybody else seen this problem?
I don't use the Contacts or Calenders as currently through iTunes sync they seem OK.
Note my Yahoo and other POP accounts have no problems.
    cheers

    Problem Solved- Atleast for me
After going through this issue for more than 3 weeks, I was able to find the solution. For me emails continue to disappear but it was totally random. Calendar and Contact also disappeared but not as often as mail.
The problem resides on Exchange OWA server. On IIS I have connection limit of 10 connections which we was causing this problem. After increasing the limit problem is gone.
    STEPS
Search the logs under C:\WINDOWS\system32\LogFiles\HTTPERR for "503 1 ConnLimit", if you find this line then the solution is to increase the limit.
To do that, go to, IIS Manager, Right click on Default Website (where OWA is hosted), properties and go to Performance tab. Under Website Connections, increase your current limit. Restart IIS Admin and try IPhone mail again.

  • Can't sign in while using on a PDF file. Box pops up then disappears.  Adobe Reader up to date, account in good standing.

Just today my Export PDF program won't let me sign in, so I can sign my document.  Sign in box pops up then disappears right away.
Adobe reader is up to date, as is my subscription to Export PDF.  Have rebooted computer, tried different browser.
Any suggestions?  Thanks for your input!

    Hi HIROLLERS,
It sounds like you've tried signing in both from Reader and the web browser.
In Reader, what happens when you click the Fill & Sign tab in the Tools panel?
Have you tried clearing the browser cache, or using a different web browser?  In either case, you should be able to get to the Fill & Sign tab (you don't need an ExportPDF subscription to sign a document).
    Best,
    Sara

Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].

I recently bought a macbook pro retina and while I'm using it a yellow triangle pops up then disappears. I don't know what it says. How do I find out whats wrong?

Oh, by all means. Uninstall it using its uninstaller if you have one. Do not install any anti-malware software as it's unneeded with OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.
    Uninstalling Software: The Basics
Most OS X applications are completely self-contained "packages" that can be uninstalled by simply dragging the application to the Trash.  Applications may create preference files that are stored in the /Home/Library/Preferences/ folder.  Although they do nothing once you delete the associated application, they do take up some disk space.  If you want you can look for them in the above location and delete them, too.
Some applications may install an uninstaller program that can be used to remove the application.  In some cases the uninstaller may be part of the application's installer, and is invoked by clicking on a Customize button that will appear during the install process.
Some applications may install components in the /Home/Library/Applications Support/ folder.  You can also check there to see if the application has created a folder.  You can also delete the folder that's in the Applications Support folder.  Again, they don't do anything but take up disk space once the application is trashed.
Some applications may install a startupitem or a Log In item.  Startupitems are usually installed in the /Library/StartupItems/ folder and less often in the /Home/Library/StartupItems/ folder.  Log In Items are set in the Accounts preferences.  Open System Preferences, click on the Accounts icon, then click on the LogIn Items tab.  Locate the item in the list for the application you want to remove and click on the "-" button to delete it from the list.
Some software use startup daemons or agents that are a new feature of the OS.  Look for them in /Library/LaunchAgents/ and /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or in /Home/Library/LaunchAgents/.
If an application installs any other files the best way to track them down is to do a Finder search using the application name or the developer name as the search term.  Unfortunately Spotlight will not look in certain folders by default.  You can modify Spotlight's behavior or use a third-party search utility, EasyFind, instead.
Some applications install a receipt in the /Library/Receipts/ folder.  Usually with the same name as the program or the developer.  The item generally has a ".pkg" extension.  Be sure you also delete this item as some programs use it to determine if it's already installed.
There are many utilities that can uninstall applications.  Here is a selection:
        1. AppZapper 2.0.1
        2. AppDelete 3.2.6
        3. Automaton 1.50
        4. Hazel
        5. AppCleaner 2.1.0
        6. CleanApp
        7. iTrash 1.8.2
        8. Amnesia
        9. Uninstaller 1.15.1
      10. Spring Cleaning 11.0.1

  • Firefox 3.6 won't open, it comes up in the task manager and then disappears after about 3 seconds

Firefox 3.6 will not open, I have noticed that it loads in the task manager in windows vista 32 bit, after 3 seconds it then disappears and won't open, I have reinstalled firefox, all this did was to loose all my passwords and bookmarks, I have disabled my anti virus which is kaspersky internet security 2011, firefox still won't open, I have uninstalled various programmes and that does not work and I have loaded my laptop into safe mode and firefox still won't open,
if anyone can help then it will be most appreciated because I am so frustrated, everything I do seems not to work with firefox, yet my other browser which is safari works every time, there was only a problem with firefox 3 days ago, I have been using firefox for over 1 and half years with no problems, I have also have scanned my pc for viruses but this has not solved the problem.

Do any of the possible causes listed at https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Firefox+hangs#Hang_at_exit fit?
Your Firefox settings and info are kept in a folder separate from the Firefox program, called your profile folder. Try creating a test profile, to see if the problem still occurs. See [[Managing profiles]]

  • Devices appear in itunes after loading then disappear after a few minutes. How do I rediscover my devices?

My devices all disappear after a few minutes. How do I rediscover them?

You may have a bad track pad sensor.
    http://blog.w3conversions.com/2006/04/faulty-trackpad-sensor-in-powerbook/
Do NOT open the computer and detach the sensor. There’s no reason to. Here is the complete method for disabling the sensor:
Move (do not delete) the following extensions to a different location (a new folder outside the extensions folder). You’ll find them in your system/extensions folder:
    * IOI2CControllerPMU.kext
    * IOI2CLM7x.kext
    * AppleLM7x.kext
    * Extensions.kextcache
    * Extensions.mkext
Once moved, restart, and that little sensor will be disabled.

  • Web page loads and then disappears after a few seconds

I have been visiting the More magazine website (www.moremagazine.co.uk ) for some time. However in the last week or so when I click on a link in the e mail I get from them the page loads as usual, stays for a few seconds and then disappears - only a blank page remains.. Even if I refresh I still get a blank page. If I type the URL in manually I just get a blank page immediately.

    Anyone solve this yet?

  • ICloud restore Apps download while in waiting mode then disappear after

    Hi All,
When I restore my iPhone 4 from the iCloud backup, I get prompted to key in a new passcode for the phone, Facetime password, iMessage password, and my email passwords but I do not get prompted for my AppStore password.
My apps stay in "Waiting..." mode and they start downloading at that state. The moment the download completes, all the waiting apps turn white and flash (disappear and appear) and the downloaded app disappears forever (icons have shifted as if they app was deleted).
I have tried this about 7 times already and at every single attempt, I was not prompted for my AppStore password (I'm guessing the restored apps do not get authenticated/verified so they just get dumped after download).
I then tried a few more restores and thought of ways that would "interrupt" this instant download of apps (in Waiting... state). I tried shutting the phone off after I keyed in all my passwords (I have about 5 email accounts). Upon starting back up the phone, it will go on with the automatic download without asking me for my AppStore password.
I decided to try to interrupt the sequence further (in another restore attempt) but continously tapping on an application in the Waiting... state (similar to how you would pause/unpause a new app download/update). This eventually caused the AppStore login prompt. After which, one of the apps now hit Loading... state and downloading it completely will install it. All the relevant data is restored.
Now the issue is that despite being able to do this, I still lose 1 or 2 apps (one before I shutdown and before I can hammer an app enough to make it pop up the AppStore login screen). Is there some sort of delay issue with regards to the iCloud restore process? Is it possible to get the phone to prompt me for my AppStore password immediately after a restore?
I'm not sure if this is due to my iCloud backup being corrupted (upon initial restore the phone reboots and does the loading graphics and then to the apple then get stuck in the spinning icon for a while). I dont know how much more I can describe what I'm experiencing but I will gladly provide more information.

    OK...
Here's what I did to get around this problem, a slight modification of a fix for another issue...
All you need to do is Settings->General->International->Languages–>Change to British English
This will cause the Springboard to soft reset and the stuck apps will automatically resume and download themselves! Or not, in which case you can follow the steps below.
Now (very important) after perfomimng step one again, quickly go to the app that you are stuck on, move it out of its folder if necessary, to get at it more easily. Press and hold to bring up the 'x' then tap to delete. Note: You will only have few seconds, maybe 2 or 3 before the springboard finishes its refresh and the resume download kicks back in on the stuck app. Once it gets to resume restore mode, you will be unable to delete the stuck app. The rest of your apps should continue to download normally now, once the offending app is deleted. You can easily re-download that app later, once the others have finished restoring.
You can now change the language back to US English or whatever (I'm going to leave mine in the Queens English)
    Cheers! Hope this helps someone.

  • Application icon appears and then disappears after opening

Occasionally when I open an app [for example, Zuma or Ofoto Express, etc.] the icon will appear on the dock like it's opening, but then immediately disappear. When I try opening it again, it does the same thing. The only solution is to reboot and then the app opens properly, but very annoying. This will happen about once a week or so. What could be causing this? Has anyone else had a similar problem?

I've figured out because these applications are PowerPC based and not Intel (which I have), this will occasionally happen. Safari may do the same thing, as it is PowerPC based as well.

  • "Service Battery" notifications under battery icon in menu bar.

There have been only 182 charge cycles till now. I have kept my MacBook for recalibration. Its under the Apple Care plan. Is it eligible for a replacement?

I tried SMC reset but didn't help. 300 charge cycles are still not over. I hope its covered under the warranty.

  • Service Battery on 1 1/2 year old MacBook Pro

My MacBook Pro is a year and a half old and I am already getting the service battery notifications. Yes, I do use it everyday and it already has 400 cycles but do I really need to replace the battery already?

    So it would appear.

  • 'Service Battery' to 'Normal' in a Loop.

Hey guys, this past week, my Macbook Pro (19 months old according to coconutBattery) has been switching between a 'Service Battery' notification where the health of the battery has been hovering around 66 to 70% and 'Normal', where it's been somewhere around 81-85%. I have 316 cycles on the battery.
coconutBattery isn't the only one showing something like this happening. System Profiler has been providing numbers that correspond with it, and iStat Pro has been giving similar numbers as well.
Here's the information from Profiler, since it's in one of it's 'Service Battery' phases.

If my apple care/warranty has expired, can I still get a replacement for free?  Or can it still get repaired for free?   what are the implications if I do not service the battery soon.  Please an apple technician reply would be appreciated
