"Service Battery" Warning Showing Up on a year old MBP
Today when I got on my Macbook Pro, I clicked the battery, and noticed it said "Service Battery". This computer is 15 months old, 3 months out of the coverage. But, this battery should last more than a year. Everything was running smoothly up until now. If I take it in at an Apple Store to be fixed, how much would it be? Or should I just fix it myself?
The battery is rated to have tha ability to recharge only a certain amount of times, then it wears out and needs to be replaced. I believe the life expectancy of a battery is about 1.5 years.
http://www.apple.com/batteries/ - Is a link to our apple web page explaining about your computers battery. Also, look in the lower right corner of this page, entitled "Exercise Your Machine". It shows you how to add reminders in iCal, that prompt you to calibrate your battery. This will help you keep your battery in top condition!

Late 2013 macbook pro showing Service Battery warning after 1 year and 2 months
Hey there,
I purchased a 13" MacBook pro retina late 2013 in December
The battery has recently started showing the "service battery" warning. Here is a screenshot from Coconut Battery:
Surely after only about a year the battery should not be holding only 70% of the charge. Is this level of wear unusual? If I were to take this to an apple store would Apple likely replace it even though it is out of warranty?
Cheers guys.unfortunately, the batteries warranty is only one year. The only options were the ones they gave you: buy a new battery (which I recommend), or use your mac on the power supply only without the battery.

Hello,I have a 2011 MacBook Pro, it currently has 504 charge cycles and is giving me the service battery condition warning. However, I have not noticed any significant difference in battery life as the apple website said should occur as I reach the Service Battery warning. Do I really need to have my battery serviced right now, or is the computer just programmed to give me a service battery warning after a certain number of cycles?
Batteries will die when they want to. Some just stop working even though they appear OK. Others gradually lose duration.
Cycles do not matter. Some batteries die at 200 cycles and 3 years, some die at 1800 cycles and 6 years. -
when I use my 5 year old MBP on battery it suddenly shuts off when the battery life reaches 88%. Anyone know why and how to fix it?

I have a 5 year old MBP, 2GHz Intel Core Duo, 1GB MHz, DDR2 SDRAM, running Snow Leopard, 10.6.8.
I use wireless to connect to the Internet and everything works fine when I sign on. After being on line for awhile and my remaining battery power at about 60%, I lose connectivity. I turn off Airport, restart it, and I am asked for my secure password. I enter the password but cannot reconnect. So, I shut down the computer for 5 to 10 minutes, restart, and everything works great again.
Has anyone experienced this behavior and do you have any suggestions as to what is causing the problem.
Thanks for any help you can give me.
LowellI think I hit the wrong key ... so here it is again!
Thank you ... I keep seeing this i5 and i7 processor mentioned and it is also recommeded that I stream using it. Do you have any suggestions on which MacBook would serve me better? Or is there an upgrade of any kind that will help me?
Thanks again.

Year Old MBP - Battery only Good for Two Hours
When I fully charge the battery over night and switch the battery indicator to time the most I get is two hours. Percentage view quickly shows from 100% for a few mins to 75% a few mins later and the most I can get out of it is roughly two hours. Based on these readings do you think the battery is defective?

Message was edited by: robertdWell, your battery's original capacity was about 4600mAh, and it still has 96% of that: very good for a year old. So it's there, but something is consuming it. Open Activity Monitor and use it to determine what's using the most CPU cycles. If you're using your machine in a brightly lit setting, make sure your display and keyboard brightness aren't being cranked up automatically: the display in particular is a huge energy consumer. If the Web sites you frequent are video sites like YouTube and Hulu that use a lot of Flash, that will eat up your battery very quickly.

Less than a year old MBP 13 Battery is now less than 89%
My MBP is less than a year old. I check the battery and surprisingly, it has 534 cycles and only 89% Health left. I use iStat Pro. The battery is quite disappointing at only less than a year of use. Can I get it replaced under Applecare?
If you've cycled your battery 534 times in less than a year, you're flogging it within an inch of its life. Completely discharging and recharging your battery 1-1/2 times a day is as hard on it as anything you could possibly do to it, short of storing it in a closed parked car in the summer sun.
And still, after 53.4% of your rated 1000 cycles are gone, you've only lost 55% of the 1/5 of the battery's original Full charge Capacity that Apple expects you will lose in 1000 cycles. That is to say, despite your extremely hard usage of your battery, it's almost exactly on pace to meet Apple's stated expectation that it will still have 80% of its original Full Charge Capacity after 1000 cycles. Your disappointment is completely unwarranted, and you certainly have no reason to ask for or expect a replacement battery.
If you want it to last as long as possible, stop deep-discharging it every time you use it, and plug in your AC adapter whenever you can. -
2 year old MBP battery says replace now
Although my MacBook Pro ("15) is only 2 years old, it says that the battery needs to be replaced. It doesn't start when it's not connected to the current and if it's adapted it says: not loading. It's supposed to last 5 years...
Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Your battery could have failed prematurely. Report it to Apple and see if you can get a replacement.
BTW, 88 cycles are not very many for 2 years of use--batteries will fail sooner if they are not used enough. Here's a good read on batteries:

IPod Nano 7th Gen- battery problem- less than 2 years old
When you connect it to the computer's USB (or to a USB power adapter) so that it has power, does it still operate properly? If it does, you are saying that as soon as you disconnect it from power (even after it has been connected for a while), it immediately shuts off?
Or is the iPod "dead" when you connect it to power? -
battery capacity went from from 80.4% to 78% to 86% within the same day. is this normal?

Random restarts on year old MBP
I bought my Macbook pro 15 mid 2012 model around Sept last year, works wonderfully for capture one, photoshop, final cut, etc. But as of the last couple months I get the same problem almost everyday. The computer will put the display to sleep (after the set 5 min) but will shut down the system as well, when I try to wake it I get a forced restart and error report. This wouldn't bother me so much but it's been happening very frequently since it started, and I use my computer for work at events and it's crucial the system stays booted up. My next attempt will be to turn of the display sleep and see if the problem occurs, but from previous testing this didn't help the problem. I have an error report from the last incident if that helps.

I have 3 year old MBP will it connect to new 24" display?

Here are the brains at Apple on this.. Hey guys let's design a monitor that only a few people can use because then we will make lots and lots of less money..!! duhhh. -
Why does my 3-year old MBP shut down and not start?
I have a mid-2010 MPB running Mt Lion and it is giving me fits. It consistently shuts down for no reason. I have taken it to the Genius bar and been told that I should add additional memory, so I have doubled the RAM with a new unit. The problem is that did nothing. I keep having to restart and now it seems not to want to start at all, so I can't do anything or learn anything. I have the basic MBP but I have 2011 Office for Mac and the other basic apps on board. Any ideas?
