"Service Error" Is there a fix?

I think if i get the ipod updater to work than maybe iTunes 5 will work with my ipod, but i cant get that thing to work. I have a ipod w/ click wheel and i realllly want to update it.
Ive tryed everything about reinstalling and stuff, but nothing has worked.
I wish apple could figure this out and come out with a new version for windows users.. arg..

I've been venting about this problem for days... 9 now, in fact. I have the same error messages too (software not communicating, and updater service error)
None of Apple's instructions help. Considering they were written beore 5.0 came out... I wasn't that optimistic.

I was going to re-install 4.9 (which is a bit of a challenge because you have to save your music and rename it, etc)
But I think I'm going to try and sit "patiently" for the 5.0 fix to come out. When? I don't know. But I've wasted many many hours sitting here pulling my hair out.
My iTunes 5.0 is playing music off my PC, my iPod works and I can charge it elsewhere. Just can't sync/add new music with this latest 5.0/disaster. I haven't had any Windows crashes - so I don't want to risk playing around again.
That's my only advice.

Without knowing anything about your system, your project, your settings and whatnot nobody can even begin to guess. This error could indicate an issue with your footage or the fast previews, but then again a simple reinstall may fix it...

HELP! 'unexpected end of file' error-Is there a fix?! OS 10.4.11

Getting 'Unexpected end of file' error when trying to open a file (that's a rush job) in QuarkXpress 6.5. I attributed it to lack of memory, so I immediately backed up all files and HD to an external drive to free up space. Restarted and prayed... Quark launched, but file won't open. Same error.
Have: 2.1 GHz PPC G5, 1.5 GB DDR2 SDRAM OS 10.4.11 (pre Intel)
Capacity: 232.8GB, Available: 163GB, Used 69.6GB
Have been searching help site for 5 hours looking for answer and am DESPERATE! I saved changes regularly, but can't access this file at all... I've lost 2 full days & nights working on this project that has to be done in 2 days.
Ran Disk Utility, but no success opening this specific Quark file (Quark will launch- it's just this file that's affected). Have tried to down load Applejack, etc. but keep finding out they only support OS 10.5 or higher. (Haven't been able to afford upgraded system since Intel requires purchase of full verions of graphics software instead of upgrades to the tune of $6k).
PLEASE, I only know enough to be dangerous, so ANY help is GREATLY APPRECIATED!
Savvy folks- if I'm in the wrong place, please send me a link where I can solve this personal catastrophy.

I think you best do over your work from scratch. You need to make backup copies of the files regularly. You need to have copies on multiple disks or flash drives.
I saved changes regularly
You should know that this isn't sufficient. You need to have multiplte copies of the file. Backup anyone? Could be the file structure got messed up. Could be Quark messed up the file.
You need to get a newer machine. G5's are not reliable any more. Need to see if Quark will run in compatiblity mode on an intel machine. You should at least get an external firewire drive from owc. Old hd's are not reliable.
Boot in safe mode. Hold down the shift key when powering on the machine. This will run a disk repair program. Boot up will take longer as the harddrive is scanned and repaired.

Do you see them in a pop-up (alert) window?

I know AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint will give you the steps to unlock it as long as the original contract it was bought under has been completed. eBay/Craigslist is really not the best place to try to get "unlocked phones" from, if it turns out the phone isn't unlocked then I'm really sorry you got stuck with that one and as stevejobsfan said above I would report them immediately and see if you can recover your money. Error 1004 and 1013: These errors may be the result of the connection to gs.apple.com being redirected or blocked. Follow these steps to resolve these errors:

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > Terminal > Copy and paste in the following:
/System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchS ervices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -seed
> Press Return > Close Terminal App.

Sometimes this happens to me, I know I am old school as well with an iPhone 3g hey what can I say I got a great deal on it. If I do a reboot, hold the power button and home button down for 10 seconds, and then hold the power button down until the apple logo appears it usually fixes this issue.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.

Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.

It sounds a lot like your phone was hacked or jailbroken to unlock it prior to your trying to update it.
If that is the case, it is nowpermanently bricked.

It also appears that your phone may have been Hacked and / or Jailbroken...

I have just gone through every link on the site and a number of links when clicked on will not bring up the material. I tried going into Adobe 10 on my computer and disenabling protected mode as was suggested on your forum and at first when I went back into the essex info site it seemed to have worked when I clicked on a link that had only produced a black page. However when I went back to test all the other links I found that the problem was still re-occuring. This is really weird as the site and my connections to it which I sometimes make by directly accessing the site and sometime via a link from our QRRA blog have always worked perfectly with no problems up to now. I downloaded adobe 10.1 on 8 March 2011.
I contacted essexinfo separately but they said everything seemed to be OK at their end working from within the system.
If you can help I would appreciate it.
