Service Marketplace Complexity and Problems

I'm posting this message simply to report a few problems I have with the SAP Service Marketplace that I think needs to be adressed rather rapidly.
The Service Marketplace is so big that even after many months in it, I'm still feeling a bit lost. And I don't seem to be the only one: even SAP people that actually maintains the site seems lost in it too!
For example: If you open what I consider to be the BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 patches, (Menu Bar --> 'Downloads', 'Business Objects Downloads', 'Service Packs, Hot Fixes, Samples, and Utilities' and search for BusinessObjects XI 3.1 'Hot Fixes') they stop at FixPack 1.3, leading you to think that this is the currently highest available FixPack for BO. But - if you look for them using a different approach, you find that FixPack 1.6 is already available!
'SAP Software Distribution Center' --> (In the grey bar left hand side of the screen) 'Download' -->
(still in the same grey bar) 'Support Packages and Patches' --> (Once more in that bar) 'Search for Support Packages and Patches'.
And finally, in the search screen, search for 'Enterprise', and voilà! FixPack 1.6.
The FixPack 1.5 for Windows will not download, the file seems corrupt and the 'SAP Download Manager' loops trying to fetch it. I called the support team regarding this, but I was in a hurry and couldn't take the required 30 mins back then to open a support message, so it's still broken today if I try again to get it. I guess not many customers have found that file yet... no one seem to have complained that the download link is broken!
One last problem: Where are the 'Supported Platforms' documents?? Even in the PDF's for XI 3.1, the links still points towards the sadly now defunct 'www.businessobjects.com' website. It took me a google search to find them, since I couldn't find any links on either the Service Marketplace or the Help Portal to them.

I hope you can accept these comments as positive criticism, there are lots of great things about SAP's BusinessObjects Portal, I'm just trying to help remove the irritating parts.

  • ORADC problem on Windows 2000 with Service pack 1 and service pack 2

    Hi,
    I have a VB application running on NT4.0 workstations. It uses
    ORADC control to talk to ORACLE 7.3 When I load it on Windows
    2000 with service pack 1 or service pack 2, I encounter some
    problems.
    The ORADC control is used in most of the VB forms and the
    Refresh method of the ORADC conrol is used to refresh the APEX
    TRUE DBGRID PRO control. When this action is executed, I receive
    a run time error
    "Method Refresh of object '_DORADC' failed Err#: -2147417848
    It works fine when no service pack is applied on Win2K.
    Can anyone tell me what's going on?

    R2 is the "offical" Microsoft name for service pack 2.

    Hi turingtest2 (you pass, BTW):  Thanks for the speedy reply.  MobileMe doesn't appear in the list of programs which can be uninstalled.  I tried the link you suggest: http://support.microsoft.com/mats/Program_Install_and_Uninstall but when I tried to "Run Now", I get the error message:  " Troubleshooting cannot continue because an error has occurred... etc.... [code 80072F8F]"  So googled this error & found a tool called (80072f8f) Repair Tool   -  I'm leery to download yet more stuff from non-microsoft sites -- any recommendations?

    whenever I try to sync entourage with iCal or Address Book, I get the following message: "Microsoft Sync Services has encountered a problem and needs to close". I can't seem to get it to stop. Anyone have any ideas?

    I finally solve this problem in my imac....
    For Snow Leopard (Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard):
    1 In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    2 Open Terminal.
    3 In the Terminal window, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl reset
    4 Press Return.
    5 When the operation is complete quit Terminal.
    For Leopard (Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard)
    1. In the Finder, choose Utilities from the Go menu.
    2. Open Terminal.
    3. In the Terminal window that opens, type or paste the following command on a single line:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/SyncServices.framework/Versions/A/Resources/resetsync .pl full
    4. Press Return.
    5. When the operation is complete quit Terminal.

    Note: I'm using Snow leopard when I enter the command..it gives me some error however, I used the command for normal leopard it works for me no more annoying error sync...:) it may works on yours too worth of try.

  • Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close - J6480

    Computer: eMachines T3025 Athlon
    OS: Win XP SP3 (recent clean install)
    Printer: HP J6480 on wireless network
    Printer prints and scans fine wirelessly.   I am using the "small footprint" HP drivers to print and scan.
    After some hours with printer connected to the computer wirelessly and printing or scanning, I eventually get the 
    'Generic Host Process For Win32 Services Has Encountered a Problem and Needs to Close'  error message and cannot print or scan any longer unless I shutdown and restart Windows.
    I have implemented all the fixes (download, reinstall, etc.) listed for this printer on the hp.com site - namely

    Please try to update the hot fix then monitory the status again, at same time that error ome times also can cause by virus infection some time please back up important files
    update your AV soft then scan the virus.

    Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
    Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts   Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

  • Web Service with Complex Results and Flex

    I have created a Enterprise Java Bean that has one "test" method that returns a String[]. I have compiled, deployed and registered this bean in Sun's Application Server 8.1. I am using NetBeans 5.0 to develop this project.
    I try to load this web service into Flex and I get a fault thrown: TypeError: Error #1034: Type Coercion failed: cannot convert []@29e5d06 to XMLList. I have set the returnType in Flex as "e4X.". Do I need to do this in my webservice.
    Any help would be appreciated.

        I think with present netweaver developer studio , we can create Web services with end points as simple data types in java and the array of that simple data types.
        not sure whether it support our own custom developed classes as end points.

  • Problem with Crystal report XI after loading Service pack 4 and htfix 12

    I am using dotnet framework 1.1.
    After I install the service pack 4 and monthly hot fix, I got the following error when trying to access any crystal report page.

    To be honest, I have no idea. Other than the obvious; unless you need SP 4, don't use it...
    CR XI r1 is out of support, so if that was a bug, it will not get fixed.
    Also, since you have CR XI r1, you are entitled to upgrade to CR XI r2 for free. If that is an option, let me know and I'll supply the link to CR XI r2, the latest SP for CR XI r2 and the msm runtime files.

    I chose Option 1 (user ID & email),   i already got the registration password,  the problem is i already left my previous company & the user ID of my certification is tied up to that company email & that email is terminated already when i resigned,   so i can not proceed to 3rd step.    Can you give me what to do on the third step and how to reset my password using the registration password i got initially?    I only received my certificate now that is why it is only now also that i learned my User ID for the certification
