Service Monitoring in SCOM which triggers an alert after a wait time

Hi ,
I have a requirement to amend on of our services monitors to alert after waiting for 3 minutes after the service goes down.
Is this possible using SCOM or do we need to script this.
Please advise.

Service Monitor in SCOM

Hi,
Want to understand on this -what happens for a service monitor in scom if a monitored service is removed in a server.
will the alert automatically clears off.

SCOM turns it off as the service is not found on the server.
When you uninstall the service, SCOM might alert once that the service is in stopped state.
But if you recycle the SCOM health service on that agent. It won't alert again as the cache gets cleared.
Its always better to disable or remove the monitor first and then uninstall the service.

Why do my Reminders sometimes not alert after the set time?

Why do my Reminders sometimes not alert after the set time? I've tried re-starting repeatedly. I've tried deleting older completed reminders (I only had 300). Is there a fix for this?

You problem sounded rather odd, so I tried to duplicate it in iTunes 11 and I couldn't.
I turned off copy to iTunes media folder when adding to library, then I moved a music track that was not in the iTunes media folder from folder A to folder B and right clicked on it and selected open with iTunes and it played fine. (I have to do it this way as iTunes is not my default player for MP3).
However the consequences of doing this are that you end up with two copies of the track in the library database, the original which can no longer be found as it is not in its original location and the new entry pointing to the correct location which plays OK.
So as far as I can tell, there must be something else going on as I can't dublicate your problem in iTunes 11

If you want an easy time with iTunes it really is easier to let iTunes manage your music in the iTunes media folder. Also it make life a lot easier if you want to move to a new disk or PC as iTunes can tolerate the iTunes media folder being moved as long as you tell it where it is.

I realised that my last experment was not a purchased track.
When I did it with a purchased track, iTunes recognises that it should be in the library database and brings the track up with an exclamation mark next to it. Strangely the track was added to the library with the correct loaction and would play on the secon try.
Odd behaviour, maybe it is something to do with the icloud storage system as iTunes knows you purchased the track.

SCOM 2012 Web Transaction alerting after second bad poll

I'm trying to create a synthetic web transaction that will raise an alert after the second bad occurrence. Anybody have any idea as to how to accomplish this to filter hair trigger errors.

Services monitored by SCOM 2012

Hi All,
I am using SCOM 2012 SP1 in our environment. I am a bit puzzled about what all services of a windows server are monitored by default in SCOM. I am asking this because recently we have WinRM service stopped on a windows server but no alert get generated in
SCOM. Does I need to manually set up monitoring for this service?

Hi,
The System Center Management Pack for Windows Server Operating System provides the fundamental monitoring basics for computers.
From what I can see, the WinRM service is not monitorred by default.

Raise an alert after a specified time, if file not found in source folder

Hi all,
For a requirement, I need to poll a folder at a specified time say 10.00-10:15 AM and check for a file.
If the file is not placed in the source folder within this duration. I need to raise a alert.
How do we handle requirement. Pointers/suggestions to achieve the same would be highly appreciated.

Thanks for your response. The timeout option will work if the Transport Protocol is FTP. But take a case where it is NFS.
Then how will be monitor the source location for a certain period and then raise an alert.

Windows Service Monitor - False Alerts

Scenario : We have a custom Service Monitor that is created long back and enabled for all Servers. I just noted that the service is not present in all servers except few. I also noticed that there are some Overrides for 5 servers which does
not make any sense to me as it was overridden to enable this monitor.
Issue : Now the issue is, I got alerts for 5 servers for which the service is not installed at all. How is that possible ?

You can create your service monitor either
1) From Authoring workspace --> Management pack Templates --> Windows services

You understanding is correct if you using method 1) to create service monitor. Otherwise, you should enable the monitor for computer which has te service present.

Cloud Service Monitor Alert Can't be Created

we had a cloud service deployed at Azure North Ireland Data Center,
i would like to create monitor for the role instance, but when creating alert it shows an error, and the alert can't be created.

Thanks for posting here!
I reproduced the issue on my system it works fine for me.
As per the description provided what I have understood is that the configuration did not go successfully or could be a problem in execution.
Delete the configuration and try to reconfigure the Alerts.
Sometimes it could be the browser issue. Try deleting cache and cookies and then try again or try with different browser.
If it doesn't work, I suggest you could try to deploy a new cloud service and the try to configure the Alerts.

Cluster Service Monitoring - Is There An Alert When a Volume is Available?

We've seen some alerts that show a shared volume is no longer available. They look something like this

Based on my research, this monitor is based on the Cluster Shared Volume related Events:

However, I could not find the Events means the “cluster
shared volume is available again”; therefore, I suspect this cannot be monitored based on Event Log.
In addition, I just noticed the status of a cluster shared volume can be queried by PowerShell script. Hope this can give you some hints:

Displaying hostname in Basic Service Monitor alerts

Hi all,
I've created a new Unit Monitor (specifically, a Basic Service Monitor) to alert when a particular service I stopped on any server in a group that I've defined. When I stop the service to test the alert, I don't see the affected server's hostname anywhere in
the alert. I see the source is set to the name of the group. This isn't all that useful, as I have to check every server until I find the one that the alert was generated for.
I've tried changing values in the Alert Description on the monitor, but haven't had any success here. It seems to me like the answer should be pretty obvious, but I'm stumped.

Service Monitor Not Alerting

I have a service monitor setup to monitor up down of a service. The service yesterday starting to terminate and restart it self but the monitor is not catching that it is going down. The monitor works fine we we take it down manually. I think the restart
is happening too quickly. Has anyone seen something like this and is there a fix for it?

Hi,
The default frequency of the basic service monitor is 60 Seconds if I have it in mind correctly so you may not got an alert for every service restart.
If you want to get an alert for every service restart you may have to use an Event Monitor to check the Service Start/Stop Events.

Setting up service monitoring on a group of servers, but only alerting when the service is down on all servers

I have the need to monitor one service that exist on 3 servers, but the service only runs on one of the servers at a time, and the servers are not set up as a cluster. Any ideas around how to accomplish this?

Create a service monitor as previously described and then create a distributed application and add the new service monitor for all servers to a component group. Then set the health rollup to Best state of any member - I think that should work...

Service monitoring is not showing all the services when i create a service monitor under Management pack templates.

I am using SCOM 2007 R2 CU4 in my environment. I want to do a service monitoring on specific agents. When i try creating this service monitor which comes under the Management pack template when i select the service which i want to monitor it does not
show all the services in the drop down.
For example - I have Windows audio service which is present on the machine, But it is not showing in the service list.
So from the services stating from "W" i see only 5 in SCOM and in services.msc in the Agent i see more than 5.
Below is the screen shot.
Can any one please help.

management pack those services will not appear here in the Wizard while creating this type of a Management pack object alert right ?
If that is the case why does not the same reflect here in the operations console in the Services monitor
