Service of locating

Hi Experts,
As I read here,
iphone uses several means to pinpoint location.
I need to clarify:
1. which way provides more accurate location info or all give exactly the same location everytime?
I mean, is wifi/cellular triangulation/GPS the most accurate?
If wifi is used, what/which map info database is used?
If cellular tower AGPS is used, what map info database is used?
If GPS is used, is it a 'live', real-time calculation service from the satellites?
Does the Cellular tower AGPS get data from satellites?
2. if at a location, the iphone GPS can access the satellites and the cell towers are also accessible. From which source will the location info be provided? Will iphone GPS still receive satellite map info if I leave the iphone at the same location for 15 mins or more? I know that cellular AGPS is quickest way to get location info. But if there is also GPS satellite line-of-sight, and i leave the iphone at the same location, will GPS info replace the AGPS info presented on the iphone? If so, how to tell if the map info I see comes from AGPS, GPS or wifi?
Where is the literature that explains clearly all these?

So, locating location by wifi or cellular network will provide exactly the same info because the database/info received is the same?
No. Again, the iphone has a dedicated GPS chip. WiFi & cellular tower location merely provide an assist in helping the GPS chip pinpoint your location faster than if the "assisted" part were not available.
If there is no line of sight from the satellite's point of view, eg. the iphone is inside a building, can GPS info still be received if wifi and cellular service is turned off?
All GPS receivers, including the iphone's, require line-of-sight reception to pinpoint your location. Generally, GPS receivers will not work inside a building.

  • Service data location on mac os x lion server 10.7.4

    here's my problem.....
in mac os x lion server, sever app, under hardware/settings, one can change the service data location (in my case from the server HD to an external HD), which I was trying to do. After the first attempt, I got an error message, something that had to do with "postgres". The server app created an some libraries on the external HD, but they were all empty.
Second attempt: I switched all services off and tried again: now I didn't get an error message, the app created the correct libraries and next to "service data" my external HD is being listed:..so far so good, I thought.
After restarting the server app, the external HD's name isn't listed anymore (and no other either) and the "edit" button is greyed out....that's it. No clue what to do now.
    Any ideas?

Click here and start the process.

  • Telling ML Server where service data location is (again).

    Hello,
I've seen this a couple of times and think it's a bug. Maybe somebody knows how to resolve this properly. Mini Server with 10.8.2 and OS X Server v2.2 running, all services configured. Service data is moved via Server->Settings->Service Data to another volume.
The customer moves the physical location of the server, probably forgets to attach the external drive containing the service data on boot. Server starts with other (local) settings rather than what was configured and run already successfully with service data located on external drive.
After stopping all services, setting the service data location to the external drive fails with "Existing Service Data - The volume “Data” already contains service data in /Library/Server. Please delete or move the data and try again, or choose a different volume.".
Yes, we want to use the service data of the external volume. This is desired. How to resolve this?
    Alex

    Hi,
ran several times into the same problem. Our service data was moved to an external RAID 1 volume and there it should be. For whatsoever reason the volume containing /Library/server was disconnected and upon automatic reconnection (or restart) the server could not find the service data again and therefore the osx server set the default location of service data to boot volume/Library/Server... I thought I was about to go mad... How to point the server to correct service data manually. It seemed there was no option to do this in ML OS X server. So being almost hopeless, I renamed the original service data folder on RAID 1 volume to /Library/Server_old. In the menawhile i noticed that although Finder showed correctly mounted RAID 1 volume with the initial name ("Pool") in fact in /Volumes there were /Volumes/Pool and /Volumes/Pool1 which pointed to the RAID server. Ridiculous. The OSX mounted the RAID 1 volume incorrectly or the server tried to save some sort of service data BEFORE the server data RAID 1 volume was at least mounted correctly and thus created a directory named /Volmes/Pool that fooled the server completely and corrupted it as it could not found any correct service data on /Volumes/Pool... Googling around showed that the problematic service might be Messages "_jabber". So In Server.app turn off every service available and quit. In disc tool eject the external volume containing real service data. Then in terminal delete recursively the undesired "ghost" folder ( /Volumes/Pool in my case). Pay attention not to delete the real volume containing the service data! Then again mount the external volume with the service data. Check in terminal that it was mounted correctly in /Volumes. In the meanitme act quickly. I needed to delete the gost folder several times until there was not any ghost folder anymore before mounting the true service data external volume. It is difficult to completely shut down all the server services that access service data although the Server.app shows everything offline. Then launch server.app again move the almost empty default service location to the real external Volume already mounted correctly. Now comes the brute part. On the external volume delete in terminal recursively the /Library/Server and rename the backup /Library/Sever_old to back to /Library/Server. I prayed it would work at that point. And upon restart it did work. Good luck!

  • Change Software Update Service storage location - OS X Server 2.2

What's the best way to change the file storage location used by the Software Update Service in Server 2.2? I don't want to change the default "Service Data" location for the other services.
Generally I like to make as few changes to the standard configuration as possible, but in this case I need to make an exception. I'd really like to to get the catalog of update files on to an External Pegasus RAID.
I've tried using a symlink to the /Library/Server/Software Update/Data folder. That didn't work as the service was unable to update the catalogs.
Should I use a symlink on the whole  /Library/Server/Software Update/ folder or is there perhaps a better way?
With any potential solutions, how likely is is that changes I make likely to be overwritten with future updates.

  • Dealing with changing service wsdl locations  in the ESB

    Hi,
I wonder how you can easily change the WSDL locations for the webservices in the SOAP services of your ESB project. I need this to be able to easily deploy an ESB project on the different OTAP environments.
I have looked for a solution myself, but till now I must conclude that you need to make a new SOAP service each time the WSDL location changes. Also, you need to make a new xslt mapping file in the routing service that is proxying the SOAP service, because the mapping file also contains/needs WSDL location information. I omit the option to manually edit the source files in my favourite text editior, because this is not want you want by default.
BPEL contains a wsdlRuntimeLocation parameter for its PartnerLink definitions, which you can use to change wsdl locations during environment change. I hope the ESB also has a comparable option to make environment changes easy...

  • System Startup Services/App Locations?

    Hi,
I'm trying to determine where services and programs are being launched from in Snow Leopard. Everywhere I read it says to look at /System/Library/StartupItems and in /Library/StartupItems. Also in System Profiler under Software-Startup Items. The problem is there is nothing at all in any of these folders. I know on earlier versions of OSX these were not empty. My question is, where are things located now, is there a new location that I am unaware of?
These questions all arose when I noticed 'Adobe Reader Updater Helper' trying to connect to the web after I logged onto my system. It does this periodically on it's own and I want to know where this is being called from - it must be launched from somewhere. As a note I also checked in Accounts-Login Items and it is not in there either.
Can anyone help me find where this is being launched from as well as where all the other system services reside in Snow Leopard? Appreciate any input or assistance.
    Thank you.

    That is really old stuff.

Apple-provided software should go into /System/Library/LaunchDaemons. 3rd party software should go into /Library/LaunchDaemons. If the software in question needs a user to be logged in, you may find it in /System/Library/LaunchAgents and /Library/LaunchAgents, respectively. You might also find things in the user Library/LaunchAgents directory.

Look in /Library/LaunchAgents. If you have Developer Tools, you can edit the plist file with a nice editor. If not, you should be able to edit it with any text editor. If you add the following to the plist file, it will stop running:
    <key>Disabled</key>
    <true/>

  • In azure cloud service with Location West Europe, why the IP address shows the server is locate in United States?

We have 9 projects in azure cloud service, and all are use West Europe location, but with different subscription, and we found that one of those cloud service which its IP address is United
States(Why?) and others are all in Amsterdam(this is correct)
Can someone explain why? the server which it's ip located in United
States is very slow, BTW i'm in Amsterdam.

    Hi LH,
I have saw the same problem on Brazil. There has some comments about this issue, you can refer to it:
Microsoft owns large ranges of IP addresses which are typically registered in Redmond, so usually Azure IP addresses around the world show up as being
physically located in Redmond when using these types of tools.
It's more or less an issue with the way our IP are registered. They all "belong" to Microsoft in the US and Brasil
IP locator tools like whatismyip are sometimes incorrect. Some will give the real location, some will give the location of the ISP, etc …
IP geo lookup tools typically rely on a static database of IP address range registrations.
It's a Microsoft issue in the sense that we may publish the correct location for our datacenters
(eg. Amsterdam should locate in Europe and not in Redmond…) – but it's also a 3rd party tools issue.
If you want to be sure – use
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windowsazure/dn175718.aspx
And you could also  see this blog about this issue :

  • Oracle Customer Service Incident Location Information.

    Hi,
I have a question regarding the base table CS_INCIDENTS_ALL_B, the column INCIDENT_LOCATION_ID can hold two kinds of values HZ_LOCATION_ID or HZ_PARTY_SITE_ID. The column INCIDENT_LOCATION_TYPE contains the info whether the stored values is HZ_LOCATION_ID or the HZ_PARTY_SITE_ID.
I would like to know how the INCIDENT_LOCATION_TYPE column is populated or how the decision is made to store either the HZ_PARTY_SITE_ID or the HZ_LOCATION_ID into the column INCIDENT_LOCATION_ID in the table CS_INCIDENTS_ALL_B.
The Oracle EBS version is R12.1.1
I've tried to search in Metalink and have gone through the Oracle Technical Reference Manual as well, but so far couldn't find any related information. Any help with the information will be much appreciated.

The decision to store the party site id or the hz location id depends on what type of incident address is selected in the SR. If the Incident address is a customer address (party site) then the incident location id field will store the party site id. If the Incident address is a freestanding location (address not tied to any customer) then the hz location id will be stored.

  • Service URL - location & configuration question

    Running CUCM 7.1.3...
Created a service modeled after the SDK 'measurement' example, to be used as a time clock.
It queries a SQL server for validation as well as inputting information to a table.
    In development, I'm using a Windows server 2008 R2, with IIS 7.0.
I created the virtual directory on the 'default website', and used the following (example) URL when putting the service into CUCM
A local user was created, an a specialized App Pool (IPTC) was applied at the website level.
    http://10.0.0.1/CiscoIPServices/timeclock/menu.asp
    The service worked fine.
Transferred it to the Production side, and it doesn't work.
Production side is using Windows server 2003 with IIS 6.0.
App Pool (IPTC) is applied to the Virtual Directory, rather than the website.
We've tried several variations of URL - and each comes up with an error on the phone.
Note: the website it is attached to is the outside corporate website.
It does NOT use http:// - starts straight off with www._______
Using primarily 7942 phones, but some are newer. Doesn't matter which one you're using.
?? Is the http:// a required part of the URL when configuring a service in CUCM?
?? What other possible issues could be causing this to happen?
I've provided examples of my testing, with results.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Cindy

Result in Browser - Can see the XML of the page (but the http:// is stripped off the URL)
Result on phone - Error: Host Not Found
    www.mycompany.com/CiscoIPServices/timeclock/menu.asp
Result in Browser - Can see the XML of the page

Result on Phone: Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)

    Hi Cindy,
Most likely your phones do now have DNS configured and therefore are not able to resolve hostname part of service URL into IP address.
URLs with IP address may not work due to firewall between IP Phones VLAN and your production IIS or IP filters on the IIS server.
You can test the network infrastructure settings by moving your PC into the same VLAN as IP Phones and opening http://10.0.x.x/CiscoIPServices/timeclock/menu.asp   via browser.

    Boris

  • Attachments in service orders - location

    Hi!
Is there any way of retrieving the documents attached to service orders in one place?
    Kind regards,
    Borut

    Hi,
Check the attachment view under service order in web ui, get the detail of bsp component view's.
In on_new_focus of the attachment view you can find how attachments are stored w.r.t service order ( by looking at the bol relation).
Once you know the bol relation, you can fire "service order" bol query and get the list of attachments via above relation.
    Cheers,

    Hi ,
We are actually going to migrate from  BizTalk 2009 to BizTalk 2013 . As a part of this i want to convert all current BizTalk Artifacts to get compatibly with BizTalk 2013. I was able to convert schemas , maps , Orchestration etc to .net 4.5  directly
via Visual Studio 2012 Conversion Wizard. But for BizTalk Rcv Location WebServices (.asmx and .svc) , i was not able to do the same. Could anyone give some insight on how to migrate the Rcv Location during the migration from BizTalk 2009 to BizTalk 2013.
    Abhijith

well i guess you need not to re expose the schema, i am not pretty sure though. Because your code relies on .net 2.0 and you are moving it to higher version 4.5, it should work.
So only changes in apppool settings and if required, changes on web.config file for runtime version property will do.
well i am not pretty sure though, just try and trouble shoot it.
