Service of newly created database won't start if XE service already started

Hi all,
I install OracleXE 10g on WinXP SP1 and the default database (XE) is running well. Then I created a new database through TOAD but its window service won't start if XE service already started. If I shutdown the XE service than I can start the service of newly created database. This happens vice versa. When I forced to start the service of the new database with XE service already running windows told me to refer to service-specific error code 183.
But even if I'm able to start the service of the new database when I try to login using SYSTEM sometime it throws 'Oracle not available' and sometime 'shared memory realm does not exist'.
Here's my listener.ora:

I also check the folder %ORACLE_BASE%\oradata\CASHIN folder but I found no single file there. While under oradata\XE I found 6 dbf's files.
The reason why I created a new database is because I want to put Oracle files at another location instead of where XE files reside now.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advanced.

Then I created a new database through TOADDid you read the part in the license agreement that says XE doesn't support multiple instances?

  • Database won't start ... need to backup data

    Hi,
    My Oracle 10g Database in an heart beat stop working (I unplugged the network cable and now even with the cable on it won't start ... I've restarted computer lot's of times....) I've wasted too many time triyng to get this thing to work....
    I need URGENTLY to uninstall and reinstall the 10g database but first I need to backup all of the data. What do I need to do to acomplish this? Is it enough to do a copy of the D:\oracle\product\10.1.0\oradata with all datafiles or do I need something else?
    As I mentioned my idea is to copy all that I need to restore the database after reinstalling Oracle 10g.
    Please point me a light... I'm completely lost here....

    I forgot to tell an important detail - I have an HTML DB application in my PC that I also must backup. I think that all HTML DB data is in the ORADATA, but I'm not sure... can anyone tell me anything about this?

    Hi.
    To reinstall the database will not give you the html db repository back as far as I am concerned. If you are not able to bring up the current database, I don't see how you will be able to restore your html db data after creating a new database.
    If you are able to get the old database up, I assume you can export the FLOWS_010600 and FLOWS_FILES schema and import them into the newly created database. (Keep the database name the same as the original to awoid reconfiguring the html db ORACLE_HOME). I have not done this in this particular matter, but uses this procedure for moving and upgrading databases.
    You also have to create the user HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER wich don't own objects. From my installation I can see that these users have a severe amount of system privs and object privs, so anyhow, your in for a severe amount of manuall work.
    To manually create users, execute spool result from following query:
    select 'create user '||username||' identified by values '''||password||''' default tablespace '||default_tablespace||' temporary tablespace temp account unlock;' from dba_users where username in ('FLOWS_010600','FLOWS_FILES','HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER')
    Assign sys privs to these users by executing spools:
    SQL> select 'grant '||privilege||' to '||grantee from dba_sys_privs where grantee in ('FLOWS_010600'
    ,'FLOWS_FILES','HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER');
    Assign object privs the same way:
    SQL> select 'grant '||privilege||' on '||owner||'.'||table_name||' to '||grantee from dba_tab_privs
    where grantee in ('FLOWS_010600','FLOWS_FILES','HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER');
    Now roles;
    SQL> select 'grant '||granted_role||' to '||grantee from dba_role_privs where grantee in ('FLOWS_010
    600','FLOWS_FILES','HTMLDB_PUBLIC_USER');
    You also have to create public synonyms, as these are not part of a schema import:
    Run the following query and use the spool result to create public synonyms;
    select 'create public synonym '||synonym_name||' for '|| table_owner||'.'||table_name from dba_synonyms where table_owner in ('FLOWS_010600','FLOWS_FILES')
    Alle these sql querys has to be run on the target database, i.e. the database where html db is installed today.
    So, the sequence of the entire operations is:
    1) Execute a full export of the old target database as system user setting full=y
    2) Execute all these queries described over. store the result in separate files.
    3) Execute a full offline backup of old target database
    4) Recreate database with same name as old target database
    5) Verify that tablespace that is html db users default tablespace exist in new database.
    6) Create users with script
    7) Assing roles and system privileges with script.
    8) Import using full=n fromuser=FLOWS_010600 TOUSER=FLOWS_010600.
    9) Import using full=n fromuser=FLOWS_FILES TOUSER=FLOWS_FILES
    10) Assign object privileges using script
    11) Create public synonyms using script
    12) Start html db with opmnctl startall and verify that you are able to connect and data exists.
    Good luck

    Please help if you can. Thanks.
    John

    I rolled back the latest windows update (KB835732) and rebooted. Tried to start the database services and they started. Not sure what's in that patch but I think I will stay away from it.
    I can't believe there was something in the OS patch that killed it, but that's all I did to fix it.
    So for now, I'm not touching it...

  • WCS Database Won't Start

    We have WCS running on a VM, and due to some issues with the VM Infrastructure everything shut down abruptly.  The VM came back OK, but I just noticed that WCS no longer loads properly when attempting to access it via a browser.
    Checking out the server, trying to reboot it, and restart services, I noticed that in the status check the database won't start.  Manually trying to use dbadmin to start it just fails.
    Any ideas on what to try to fix the database?
    Would using the reinitdb do anything to the existing configuration on the Wireless LAN Controller?
    I'm kind of new at this and just got thrown into administering our Cisco Wireless network, so forgive me if any of these are basic questions.  Thanks!

    Also, manually trying to launch WCSStart gives me the following -
    Starting WCS
    This may take a few minutes...
    initHealthMonitor(): can not start DB
    Failed to start WCS.  Check hm_launchout.txt for details.
    Log files are located under webnms\logs in the WCS install directory.
    hm_launchout.txt doesn't seem to have much info, it just shows this -
    Starting Health Monitor as a primary
    Checking for Port 8082 availability... OK
    Starting Health Montior Web Server...
    Health Monitor Web Server Started.
    Starting Health Monitor Server...

  • Manage Views - newly created view won't display

    Hi All,
    I was recently asked to create a portfolio view for a new senior project manager. I've done this before so I thought it would be fine. However, once I create the view and I go back in to the Poject Centre, the view won't display. It just shows
    a grey page. I then deleted the view I created and duplicated an existing view (but just changed the filter so it showed the projects managed by the senior's directs) but even that won't display.
    I don't understand why this has worked every time previously and not now. Any idea what it could be?
    Thanks in advance for any help/advice.
    Clair.

    Hi Clair,
    What does exactly happen? Can you see the view name in the view drop down menu?
    In case you don't, there are 2 main things to validate:
    Which type of view did you select? In order to be accessible from the project center, it has to be a project center view and not for example a project view. See screenshot below (unfortunately in french).
    Did you correctly associated the appropriate security category with the view? Indeed, if project manager are in the default project manager security group that is associated to the "my projects" category, you need to associate the newly created
    view with the "my projects" category.
    In case you see the view in the dropdown list but when selecting it, nothing is diplayed, check for filters in the project center page or directly in the view configuration. Check also if the account you're connecting with has proper rights to access the
    list of projects displayed by the view.
    Hope this helps.

  • Oracle 10g (10.1.0.2) - Oracle CS Service and Database won't start up

    Hello!
    As I installed Oracle 10g (Version 10.1.0.2) I had to start "OracleCSService" which I tried, but it never finishes starting and "stays in the state of starting".
    I'm working on the operation System Windows Server 2003, Enterprise Edition, 10.1.0.2
    I don't know if it coheres, but I as well can't access my Database. Since I installed Oracle I haven't once been able to access.
    Did anyone have the same problem and got a solution?
    greetings Vera

    There's a known problem with 10g on non-english Windows versions , this is documented in metalink note
    OracleCsService does not start
    Note:276801.1
    OracleCSService is only needed for RAC and ASM configurations, the simplest workaround is to set the service to MANUAL startup, what prevents the service from starting after a reboot.
    As long as you use neither RAC nor ASM database creation is independent of this service and should work. To analyze the problem more details are needed, 'it does not work' is not enough.

    Hello,
    Did you refer to the folloing blog to troubleshooting this issue?
    Error Messages of SQL Server 2005 Start Up Failure
    According to the blog above, "TDSSNIClient initialization failed with error 0x2" , 0x2 is the OS error. Typing "net helpmsg 2" in command prompt return:The system cannot find the file sepcify. Status code 0x1 is general status code. You can review error

    I found the problem...installed wallet manager that created entry in SQLNET file pointing to a wallet that did not have proper OS permissions...

  • EBus on RH9 - Database won't start

    My continuing saga with installing Ebusiness 1159 on RH9. I've solved the permissions issue by running rapidinstall as oracle rather than root. Now I'm getting an error after the installer loads the database files. (I'm attempting to load a fresh database). It seems that Oracle is creating the controlfile ok but then it errors. Here's the error log:

    Any suggestions?

    The error you are getting is because Oracle is not able to check the availability of Apache webserver. The strange thing is that Oracle does not tell what's the reason for the error.
    Basically this RPM is an OS patch which will enale starting of Apache webserver for Oracle.
    My suggestion is while installing RH9 you better select all the packages.
    Try to install this RPM, compat-db-4.0.14-5.i386.rpm you can get it from:
    http://ftp.sanguine.jp/pub/sahughes/extras/rhl/beta/updates/taroon/RPMS/
    I installed 11.5.9 on Red Hat Enterprise AS 3.0.
    I did install Redhat 9 and try to install 11.5.9 on it and got the same error you are getting. I could not figure out the problem and gave up the installation.
    Started fresh with RH AS 3.0 and while installing I realized what was the problem I was getting with RH9.

  • Database won't start when in automatic mode in xp

    when i go in to properties to check the status, it's set to automatic, but it's stopped, and when i go to start it, i get service error code one and it won't start

    How you create the service

  • Oracle database won't start/connect

    I apologize in advance if I've missed something in another forum/thread, or leave out necessary information towards solving this. I tried to be as comprehensive in my research as possible prior to posting.
    Here's the story - I have a 10g 10.2.0.1.0 database on Windows XP. It was running fine, until I tried to add DBWS_UTL/10.2.0.3.0 Client... I think?, components to it in order to enable it for Web Services. I followed the tutorial at the following link:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/10gr2_db_single/develop/java/java_otn.htm
    ... and got down to Instruction #8, just before "Calling the Web Service". It says "Note that there are no errors." Unfortunately, I did have errors... and more unfortunately, I don't still have them handy.
    After some testing I realized that not only do database web services not work, but my database was no longer functioning at all. Consultation with coworkers revealed the problem to likely be tied to now having improper version matching (10.2.0.1 versus 10.2.0.3...)
    So, I tried upgrading my 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3... and believe I have successfully done that. Every service started up in Windows Services except for "OracleDBConsoleSID", which reported "Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion" right after the little green timer blocks slowly and steadily filled up to the end.
    Some more experimentation with a coworker, the OracleDBConsoleSID service no longer exists in my services list, and the database still doesn't start up.
    Things I've tried:
    1. Checking my tnsnames.ora and listener.ora files - the proper hostnames and Oracle home are listed.
    2. Rebuilding the OracleDBConsole via "emca" commands from command prompt. EMCA responds but the actual commands to reconfigure or rebuild the repository fail out because the database is not responsive.
    3. Connecting via my installed applications, Enterprise Manager, SQL Plus, and Command Line - all fail the same way, Error 1034.
    4. Reconfiguring/rebuilding my Listener with Net Configuration Assistant - values seem to check out, no positive results.
    5. Many many other small/random things mentioned in forums here and elsewhere on the net.
    I guess that's it for now, there's plenty more details I could include but I don't want to muddle the post with irrelevant information. Any ideas/help are greatly appreciated, I would just reinstall/start over but I have important data in the database that I don't want to lose.
    Thanks,
    Greg

    I organized my imported bookmarks from Safari (MacBook) in FireFox 29.0.1 (MacBook). I created a few new folders and sub-folders in the Library view (Firefox/Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Library). Later when I tried opening the newly added folder(s) from the Menu Bar "Bookmarks" tab they would not open (Expand)?
    I could still access and open them from (Firefox/Bookmarks/Show All Bookmarks/Library), but not from the top Menue Bar "Bookmarks" tab?
    I have clean installed Firefox and the problem is still not resolved?
    If anyone has had this problem or has a fix for it your help would be greatly appreciated.
